Signups & OOC Thread

Welcome to the World Cup of Football III for the TWP RP world of Esferos and its nations, as we bring the most popular sport in the world right here in our forums! For those who have been participants in previous sports roleplay (the Rugby World Cups, the Summer Esferiads, among others), then you know there will be something like this. For those that have not, don't worry!

To enter the World Cup of Football III, just add a reply to this topic by saying, "I want to sign up for the World Cup of Football III," or anything along the lines there. However, with the same rules in the RMB, we won't allow double posting (except for me to post my intentions in signing up :D). You can always edit your reply at any given time, how many times you want. Also, this thread is for signups and OOC (out-of-character) posts, like questions about the tournament. If you don't like asking questions here, you can ask them in #sports in our RP Discord server or message me there directly.

The IC (in-character) thread where we will be posting our nations' team information (players, kits, logo, anything related to such), roleplay (preparations, match day events), and results will be separate. The link shall be announced in Discord or viewed here in our forums soon.

Also, I will be scorinating this tournament or the OOC host. As to the IC host of the tournament, the Lorekeepers and Loremasters will select from the received bids of Veteran Storytellers. So, for now, we will only accept signups for this tournament.

That's all for now. Confused about how we will be doing this? New with scorinating? Taking a page from Reçu's book, read below.

Spoiler

Sports RP is a special kind of roleplay where rather than the roleplayers deciding what happens, the results are generated first, and then the stories are created by the players after the fact to fit the results. This means the cardinal rule while RPing is "don't contradict the provided scoreline."

Ah, but how is that scoreline created, you ask? With a unique piece of software called a 'scorinator.' A scorinator uses random numbers to generate a realistic score for a sporting event, considering several factors. These factors are usually rank and roleplay. If the competitors have competed in the past and established before which teams are stronger, that can be reflected by assigning those teams a rank. The scorinator will then provide realistic results where the stronger team is more likely to win.

On the other hand, teams can be given an RP bonus as well. RP bonus is a tool to encourage people to roleplay in the competition. The user scorinating the competition will read RPs and give a bonus to each team according to the roleplay it wrote, slightly boosting its performance in the scorinator. However, this doesn't mean that if you roleplay, you will win, and you should always roleplay because it's fun, not because you want the bonus.

Results will be scorinated one matchday at a time to allow people to roleplay about each game. If you have any other questions about how the whole thing works that I didn't address here, feel free to message me or ask in the thread.

Aukeran Football Lore and Hosting Bid:

Spoiler

Football was first introduced to the Infinite Empire in 1289, by way of overseas instructors at the Most Holy Academy of Naval Tacticae and Foreign Means of War. Initially confined to the grounds of the academy, the sport gradually became popular at other schools across the archipelago and, by 1321, an imperial decree established the nation's first association.

The lack of a professional league and the subsequent low standard of the national team meant that soccer remained a sleeper sport, a factor compounded by the later isolation of war with Kalmach. For years, there was only the Astintzen Football League, whose players were essentially ordinary employees of their team's sponsor. As with amateur sport everywhere, most players had other jobs.

This status quo persisted until the 1380s. The first professional league, the League of All Realms, was at last established in 1384 and began the following Spring. Initially comprised of 10 competing teams, modern incarnations of the Realms' Senior League host as many as 20, alongside a junior league numbering the same. In addition to the leagues, there is the Hierarch's Cup. This tournament is open to any team in the nation, professional or amateur. There are regional playoffs to decide the teams from each canton, alongside places assigned for university teams and several from the senior league. The Cup Finals take place on the first day of the Astintzen calendar- the Spring Equinox.

Aukera first qualified for the World Cup in 1395 and, despite not winning a single game, garnered acclaim for impressive performance. Several members of this initial team later went on to join international rosters, and the ability of players from the archipelago was at last recognised. The nation has since qualified several times hence, though never ranked significantly. Its ambitions in the sport are regional hegemony, if not global, and are marked by contest with neighbouring rivals Hezur and Kalmach. Refused recognition of Hezur has hampered the country in global competition, while Aukeran and Kalmachian competition in the World Cup is fierce. In the 1423 season, both nations qualified on the same day.

This year, in a bid to play host to the Cup for the first time, the Infinite Empire has thrown its hat into the ring.

The hopeful host-city of Zona, as well as surrounding cities of note within easy transit

Zona is not only the primogenitor of modern Aukeran football. During bygone days of stoic defiance against both continental enemies and the world-at-large, the island was host to every foreign port and visiting embassy permitted by the Infinite Emperor. Later, as the nation reached outwards to grasp hold of the changing times, it held initiatives such as the Academy of Naval Tacticae, where foreign instructors helped a new generation of officers understand modern doctrine and crucial technology. Cultural, as well as technological, growth has its roots in the city of Zona, with whole districts emulating the homelands of ancient diplomats and educators. In the modern day it remains a cosmopolitan metropolis, and one of the busiest ports in Northern Nur.

The city's eponymous stadium, pictured above, is poised with a capacity of 85,000 to host the opening and final matches of the Cup. Supplementary games may lean upon the nearby cities of Zhuna Ra and Odha Nar, a mere hour's trip on the nation's robust ferry system, who boast stadiums with capacity for 50,000 and 65,000. The sweeping hills and picturesque valleys of Zona isle, as well as several idyllic islands dotting the archipelago, provide ample space for team and referee facilities.

Beyond just the game, as well, is opportunity to become immersed in the Empire's incomparable tourist culture. The Gulf of Golden Fronds, framed by the Western coast of Aukera and the isles of the Zona archipelago, is host to famously attractive and tranquil waters. The region's mild Autumns provide the perfect environment for appreciating orange osmanthus, blood-red lilies, and chrysanthemums in their pastels in the days between events. Numerous Autumnal festivals, notably the approaching Wake of Saint Berdea, draw crowds to the streets and far-flung temples, giving ample opportunity to try all sorts of foods and customs.

For the urban-inclined or single-mindedly football obsessed, more traditional options of hotels and restaurants exist in abundance across the gulf in multiple cities, easing the load that any one might have to bear. Aukeran transit infrastructure (on the West coast, at least) is among the best in the world, with both train and ferry offering ready access to any venue, any stadium, on any day. Walkable attractions such as parks, theatres, museums, innumerable monuments, and countless shrines serve to fill the streets and hours between stadia. In particular, the castle-museum present at the centre of any major city can offer hours of diversion for the interested.

Above all, the Infinite Empire is committed to creating an alluring, satisfying space for the countless tourists that follow the Cup. This bid is, in its way, the culmination of forty years of a growing capability in the nation, and would be second only to a total victory in cementing Aukera's standing in the football world. We humbly, gratefully, request your approval, and thank you for your consideration.
