    Minister Tyrio,

The Utanriksministerjon was pleased to receive your letter dated the 4th of this month. The Monarksrike Fujai supports efforts of international trade, so long as they are made in the best interests of workers across our continents. To this effect, myself and Synne Mellem, the Handelsdirektør, will represent Fujai at the upcoming trade network summit. We look forward to discussing the future of trade between the nations involved and any proposal involved, and await further information as to the venue and agenda of the summit itself in the coming days.

    Med vennlig helsningar,

    Runar Onnstad

  2. It's still showing up as the same on my end. The edits were made between 5:25 and 5:59 UTC, so I don't think that captured them, is it possible to restore it from a previous backup? We do have everything we need from Harsh's comment if that matters, so if it must be deleted I can quote it back in my own comment for the records if that's easiest for you.

Thank you so much for all your help, and I apologize for causing the issue in the first place!

    DEMOGRAFI // DEMOGRAPHICS

Exercising the imagination, experimenting with talents, being creative; these things, to me, are truly the windows to your soul. Remember how free clouds are. They just lay around in the sky all day long. Each highlight must have it's own private shadow. Didn't you know you had that much power? You can move mountains. You can do anything. Just a happy little shadow that lives in there. All those little son of a guns.

This is probably the greatest thing to happen in my life - to be able to share this with you. Learn when to stop. Let's just drop a little Evergreen right here.

Trees grow in all kinds of ways. They're not all perfectly straight. Not every limb is perfect. If you hypnotize it, it will go away. When things happen - enjoy them. They're little gifts. This is unplanned it really just happens. It's cold, but it's beautiful. Sometimes you learn more from your mistakes than you do from your masterpieces.

Just make little strokes like that. I'm sort of a softy, I couldn't shoot Bambi except with a camera. It's life. It's interesting. It's fun. This is your creation - and it's just as unique and special as you are. We don't really know where this goes - and I'm not sure we really care. Anytime you learn something your time and energy are not wasted.

    Level 4 - Distrikt // District

Distriktar are mostly geographic and cultural entities—there are usually 2-4 distriktar per fylke.

    Level 5 - Kommune // Commune

The kommune is the center of modern Fujansk society. Most ways that government affects the people’s daily life happen at the kommunal level, and it is also at this level that the people exert the most control over government. The primary decision-making body of kommunar is the kommunal assembly, which is made up of all the kommune’s residents, and whose business is guided by the elected members of the Styre (Board).

The smallest populated kommune1 is Saudanes, with 3 residents, and the largest is Keiserholde, with 998,182 residents.

    Level 6 - Rote // Ward

The rote is a division that originated in the cities of Rønnøn, Tåkstad, and Riekia. There are usually 2-5 rotar per kommune, but large cities may have dozens.

    Level 7 - Strøk // Neighborhood

Strøkar are the smallest administrative division of Fujai. Some kommunar have only one, while Keiserholde has 236.

1 The kommunes of Haljarp, Skogkil, Birkehus, and Rødhavn have no residents. They were destroyed during the First Northern War and have not been rebuilt.

    OVERSYN // OVERVIEW

Fujai (fu:'jaɪ, foo-yEYE), officially the People's Communes of Fujai (Fujansk: Folkskommunarna Fujai), is a communal socialist directorial republic located in and near the Thulian Ocean in northern Polaris. It is comprised of the island of Saisland, portions of the Setgård islands, and the regions of Hasmark and Lannreid on mainland Polaris. Fujai also lays claim to the areas of Lannreid and Setgård controlled by Dalimbar since the 1200s.

Fujai has a total area of 521,912 square kilometers and a population of 7.3 million, mostly concentrated in south and west Saisland and south and east Hasmark. The country is bordered by Dalimbar on the east, shares an extensive border with Cambria to the south, and in the east borders Gloibria and the Cambric exclave of Corentin. Much of its coastline, especially in Saisland, is broken by deep fjords, with large areas covered by forest, tundra, and mountains. Its maritime location heavily moderates its climate, making it relatively temperate compared to its latitude in the east and south, with its coldest locales located in the northwest.

Humans have inhabited what is now Fujai since approximately 11,000 BF. Berganisk peoples have inhabited the region since at least 2800 BF, being recorded in history in the centuries before the Markian Founding as the Saisar, Hasar, and Lanning, comprising along with the Glorar and and  the peoples known as the Næring. The period from roughly 200-500 AF was characterized by migration, settlement, and raiding along the coasts of northern and eastern Polaris. Independent states emerged in Hasmark and Saisland in the early 500s, uniting into the precursor to the modern Fujansk state in 1021. The personal union of Fujai and Gloibria occurred in 1042 in response to growing Cambric influence in the region, failing in 1113 due to the Fujansk Civil War, which established the short-lived Gulhatt Republikk before the monarchy's restoration. The next two centuries were characterized by increasing Dalimbari aggression, with the Lannreid Forbund joining Fujai for protection in 1211, and a succession of wars eating away at Fujai's western territory throughout the 1200s, leading to increased alignment with the Astorians to the south. The disastrous First Northern War (1309-1312) dramatically reduced Fujai's area and began an economic depression leading to the Fujansk Revolution, which established the Red Monarchy, a socialist directorial republic with an elected ceremonial monarch. After a decade of economic reorganization, the ceremonial monarchy was abolished in 1331, leaving the current system in place. The Second Northern War (1357-1365) resulted in the return of much of Fujai's land to mid-1200s borders, and aided in Fujai's postwar economic success. On an international level, Fujai has been closely aligned with the Astorian Union (AU) for over a century, primarily as a defense against Dalimbar, and while not a full member, is a signatory of many AU treaties.

Fujai is one of the few nations to use a directorial system of government. Executive power is vested in the seven-member Stadsråd (State Council), and its members and its Rodd (Voice) are directly elected yearly. The Velkting forms the legislative branch and has the power to initiate recall elections for the Stadsråd. Iren Kristoffshavn serves as the current Rådsrodd, Tova Landsvik as the Speaker of the Velkting, and Aldis Steredal as the Hovudmidjar (Head Mediator).

Fujai uses a democratic socialist economy with universal healthcare, education, housing, transit, and an extensive social security system. These are funded with some of the highest and most progressive taxes in the world. Profit is outlawed in Fujai, and most companies operate as worker cooperatives or are under public ownership. Much power is delegated to the local kommunar, which often leads Fujai to be termed a "decentralized" or "municipal" state, while acknowledging the immense influence of the central government. Other values central to the Fujansk system include the landsuveren (land sovereign) and bypraksis (city practice). Fujai maintains an extremely high ranking in many international metrics, including quality of life, health, education, protection of civil liberties and political freedoms, equality, prosperity, and human development.

    Be Thankful, Not Entitled

By Madeline Norfolk ( @Lady Madeline)

Over my years in NationStates, I’ve come to realize that I have these phases in my time in regions that I put a lot of work in.

I go from being gracious just to be given the opportunity to do what I like, and extremely humbled when recognized by folks that I’m doing a good job, to being frustrated that nobody appreciates my work and my time I’m putting in.

Currently, I’m in a weird place where I’m not really gracious or frustrated—I guess that comes with more RL maturity. I’m in a place where I just want to do what I enjoy in NationStates and if that means cutting down how many regions I’m involved in, or taking a step away from a position or part of a region I really enjoy, then that’s what I’ll have to do. Through this journey of maturity and general peace in NationStates activity, there’s something we all should learn, we need to be thankful instead of entitled.

What I mean is, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve worked in a position or a region, Be Thankful every time someone recognizes you for doing good! Don’t expect people to fall to your virtual feet and sing your name in praises every time you do whatever your job is. I certainly don’t play this game to stroke the ego of strangers on the internet, and you probably don’t either. If you’re getting frustrated because no one is praising you anymore or thanking you, then it may be time for you to take a step back or go in a different direction!

It is amazing how much a term break or letting someone else take over with as little involvement from you as possible can be. Not only can it be rewarding to see your hard work continue in others, but it can also help you reassess why you’re doing this job.

So why am I even talking about this?

Too many of my friends and people I know in NationStates come to me or others frustrated that nobody cares what they’re doing or they’re feeling underappreciated because they got negative feedback. It isn’t fun and it really just stinks worse than leftovers from Thanksgiving that you left in the fridge for a month.

As we enter this season of giving and receiving, remember that everyone here is human, and not only that, but most are not here to make you feel good about this game. You should find your feel good in things you accomplish, the surprises when you do get recognition, and most importantly in the friendships and communities you join. At the end, if this game were to shut down tomorrow, it isn’t like we’ll all just stop talking to one another, and frankly nobody cares if you’ve built 8 different proboards forums or written 4 Constitutions.

So be thankful for your opportunities—
Be thankful for the unexpected recognitions—
Be thankful for the communities you have—
And don’t feel entitled that you deserve things because you did a thing or anyone owes you things because you did a thing for them.

Do things because you like doing them, not for whatever prizes you expect to get for doing them!

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season, be thankful, be gracious, be humble, be loving, be caring, be intentional. ✌

  8. Announcement

Because of the numerous things going on in the region right now, we've decided to push back voting for the WAU Presidential Elections until Friday, October 18th, from midnight Thursday to midnight Friday EDT, to relieve some pressure on people. Acceptance speeches will take place the next day, Saturday the 19th. Everything else will stay exactly the same, there is simply one more week to RP before the elections.

I would also like to point out that the election and the end of the First Congress will by no means be the end of the WAU. It is and will be a part of TWP RP canon, and will continue to be a framework you can use for your own space agency and to foster the development of cooperative relationships between RPers.

First Congress of the WAU (IC thread)

18:02/6:02 pm, 16 October, 1420 SM, Arensøra Slott, Keiserholde, Fujai

A burly woman steps up to a stage decorated in simple crimson and violet banners. She approaches the podium and clears her throat.

"Good evening, my esteemed colleagues, and welcome to the First Congress of the Western Astronomical Union!" she says, to applause from the gathered astronomers. "I know you're all anxious to begin, so I'll do my best to keep this short. My name is Malin Brekke, astrophysicist and Direktør for Science here in Fujai, and it is my pleasure to open this congress on behalf of the WAU. My small nation welcomes you to our venue Arensøra Slott, and we hope this old castle doesn't get too drafty," she says with a chuckle.

"We have met together," she continues, "over the course of this week, to discuss our shared interest in space, the future of our respective national organizations, and, most importantly, to elect the first president of our nascent organization. With that, I open the floor to discussion and nominations!"

First Congress of the WAU (OOC thread)

Welcome to the OOC thread for the first Congress of the Western Astronomical Union! This thread is for out of character (OOC) discussion about the event, including any questions you may have.

This first Congress's highlight will be the presidential election, though other subjects may +be broached at the will of the attendees. These elections will be held over the week in this format:

    • Nominations and debate will open at midnight EDT on Monday the 7th and will close midnight EDT on Thursday the 17th (4 am UTC both days).

    • Voting will commence immediately after debate closes and will continue until midnight EDT on Friday the 18th (4 am UTC).

Each nation that is a) on the TWP RP map and b) has submitted a national space program (can be as little as a name), is eligible to present one nominee for president in the IC thread. This information should be provided entirely in the first person by the nominee themself in their opening campaign speech. We encourage you to first make posts introducing them and other members of your delegation in character. Meeting other nations' delegations provides a great opportunity for this.

In order to be considered, your nominee must provide, at the very least:

    • Their qualifications

    • A short bio

    • A campaign speech delivered by them to tell the gathered astronomers why they should be the first president

During the nominations and debate period, you may make additional first-person RP posts in the IC thread related to the first Congress of the WAU. This is a conference with people from around The West Pacific, so get talking! Ideas for potential posts can include but are not limited to:

    • Questions to nominees from other nominees, attendees, and reporters

    • Information about your national space program

    • Other goings-on at the Congress.

At the end of the nominations and debate period, voting will commence and will be open to any nation  on the map who submitted a nominee space agency. People will probably be more likely to vote for someone who creates multiple high-quality RP posts. You may not vote for your own nominee.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know!

  11. EOJc37wm.png

Post your national space agencies here! Nations on the map will receive full membership in the WAU, and nations not on the map will receive observer status. If you submit a map claim now (and are a member of the Hall), you will be considered a full member and may participate in elections.

This can include, but is not limited to:

    • Name
    • Logo
    • History
    • Important people
    • Launch capabilities
    • Facilities and spacecraft
    • Current projects/missions
    • International affiliations
    • Relationships, and joint operations, and affiliations with other nations (e.g. ESA-like bodies)
    • Anything else your spacefaring heart desires

Note: Keep in mind that TWP is roughly equivalent to modern tech, though that's not to say that with a lot of investment, some nations may be ahead of where RL Earth is. Please keep it reasonable or the wrath of Shen-zin will fall upon you (e.g. a nation of 5 million people probably can't send humans to another planet without a lot of help)

We encourage you to store your space agency information in a factbook, where it can be easily accessible from here and from NS so you can post it to the RMB. If you'd like any assistance with factbooks, please message the RP team (Bran, Reçueçn, Nieubasria , and myself)

Lastly, once you've submitted anything about your space agency, you may participate in the first WAU Presidential Elections! These will take place this week, where you'll be able to RP your nominee's presidential campaign, so prepare some information about them, because the nominations period opens on Tuesday! (more info incoming)
