Reçueçn
Please don't post in this thread until you've signed up in the signup thread. Please don't put OOC posts here either. (Rugby Union) Welcome to TWP's first Rugby World Cup of its own! If you've signed up for this competition here, you're ready to start posting in this thread. A good way to start is with a roster post. A roster includes some information about your nation's rugby team, including, importantly, who the people on the team are. Here's a helpful link if you're new to rugby: https://www.ruck.co.uk/rugby-positions-roles-beginners/ Another helpful thing to include in a roster post is your "rp permissions." If you're planning to rp but want to make sure other rpers don't do things with your players you don't want, you can post a little box outlining what things others can or can't do, like this example: Injure my players: yes Assign my players yellow cards: yes Assign my players red cards: no Godmod injuries: no Godmod scoring: no Godmod other events: yes "Godmodding" is rping unrealistic or unbelievable things happening, so if you want a more realistic experience for your team, you can ask that others don't godmod in your matches. Feel free to add other things you think of to your rp permissions, or leave some of the things in the example out, or be more or less specific. Or don't include it at all. You don't have to rp in this competition any more than you want to (or at all). Finally, you can also include what's called a 'style modifier.' This is a number between -5 and +5, which indicates if your team has a more attacking or defending style. Teams with negative modifiers are less likely to give up points but will score less as well, while teams with higher modifiers will score more often but also let more attacks through. Style mods don't affect your chance of victory. If you don't put one, that's fine, you'll get a neutral mod (0.000). Once you've posted your roster, feel free to start rping leading up to the competition. Once signups close, a format will be posted and you'll start seeing results here to rp about. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the OOC thread. Have fun! Reçueçn
Visiting Reçueçn Reçueçn is a small nation, but it's got a lot to see. If you're visiting for TWP's Rugby World Cup, you may want to extend your stay to see the sights. Most travelers to Reçueçn will fly into Reçueçn city. As the capital and biggest city, it will definitely have the flight connection you need. Genève, the nation's second city, will also accommodate you in this regard, and both cities will have their fair share of matches. If you are travelling from a nearby country, arriving by rail is also a possibility, and many more Reçueçian cities have international rail connections than have international airports. For travel within the country, taking the train is probably the way to go. Car rentals are fairly expensive, and many cities restrict downtown access to pedestrians and public transport. When travelling through the countryside, you will find that autoroutes have high tolls, and smaller roads are typically wind annoyingly through steep mountain terrain. However, an extensive rail and tunnel network has been built, and taking the train is fairly cheap between most places in the nation. Bus routes also connect most larger towns. Within cities themselves, public transport is always very high quality and usually very affordable or in some cities, even free. During the world cup, there will be free buses between cities with venues in them. Hopefully these travel tips will enable you to explore the country beyond just the rugby matches. What to See Presumably if you're reading this, the main attraction that has brought you to Reçueçn is the TWP Rugby World Cup. The games will be played in eight stadiums in five cities around Reçueçn, with Genève and Reçueçn City taking the lion's share. But if you want to see a bit more of Reçueçn, consider taking a ride up to a cute alpine village and hiking along a mountain ridge to appreciate the amazing views we have to offer. Or take a swim in a mountain lake and cool off in the shadow of the peaks. If you really are looking to ditch the heat, check out the ice tunnels at the Écho glaciers. Or, if you come back in the winter, you can hit the slopes! If the mountains aren't for you, consider visiting our world-famous cheese museum--free samples! Or visit the Genève Cathedral if the culture you're looking for isn't bacteria. Genève, Reçueçn, Zimmerich--all cities which will be hosting world cup games--each have a beautiful downtown historic district worth the walking tour. Check them out if your idea of a good time means wandering through medieval fortifications or strolling down cobbled alleys. If what's up your alley is shopping, then we've got that too--check out Genève's luxury district for high end jewelry, fashion, watches, and more. Exchanging your money should be no problem: the Reçueçian guilder is very stable and worth only a little more than the NSD. Where to Stay, What to Eat If you are on the search for the perfect hotel for your stay in Reçueçn, worry not. Plenty of all kinds abound in and around each major city, whether you're looking for the four star experience, or just want to save a buck. If you'd rather have the personal, local touch, then we've still got you covered: a quick look online will reveal plenty of family-owned bed & breakfasts, as well as short-term rentals with people trying to make some money off the empty spare room one night or week at a time. Hostels are also very popular in Reçueçn, and are a great way to stay near the city center for a very low cost. What'll you have for dinner? Reçueçn's food is what will make you want to come back for another visit. We love our cheeses, and our national specialty is Raclette, melted cheese scraped over small potatoes, cornichons, and salami. Try it at a restaurant where each table is provided with its own small oven so each diner can melt their own. Another local specialty is Tartiflette, essentially a casserole of potatoes, onions, and lardon (thick-cut bacon) served with a slab of, you guessed it, more melted cheese cooked right over it.If you find yourself in an alpine pasture hankering for a pique-nique, rather than seated at a fine dining establishment, don't worry, cheese is great for a basket-lunch too. Bring along a baguette and a saucisson, and you've got yourself a meal.No meal in Reçueçn is complete without a glass of wine, and the local product is certainly worth the connoisseur's time. Reçuecian wine varies immensely depending on whether you're south, west, or north of the mountains, so try a few varieties and pick your favorite. If you need a pairing for your meal, it just so happens that every single person you meet on the street in the country is a self-proclaimed expert ready with helpful advice. Just don't stop them on their way home for dinner. Host VenuesListed by capacity Reçueçn is traditionally more of a football (soccer)-loving nation than a rugby one. Thus all the stadiums hosting the world-cup games are in fact repurposed football stadiums.National Stadium, Reçueçn Cap. 30,000The home of the Unicorns, Reçueçn’s national soccer teamteam, Reçueçn’s national stadium is located in the capital of the nation and has hosted every one of the RNFT’s home games. National Stadium was never officially named, and so is referred to as “national stadium” simply because that’s what it is—the national stadium. It is the largest stadium in the country and will host the world cup final. Odd Group A games Final matchCarl III Stadium, Reçueçn Cap. 28,500Carl III Stadium is the home stadium of Reçueçn FC, Reçueçn’s biggest and historically most successful soccer team. Also located in the capital city, this stadium is known for its controversial name—Carl III was the first and only king of Reçueçn and was wildly unpopular for having invaded most of the country and ruling it with an iron fist. A rebellion led to his deposition and the creation of the Allied States. Inhabitants of other parts of the country, therefore, disapprove of the name, although those from Reçueçn City still use Carl III as an example of their superiority—on the football pitch. Even Group B games Quarterfinal IStade de la Reformation, Genève Cap. 27,000Le Stade de la Reformation is the home stadium of Association Genève, Reçueçn FC’s biggest rival. Located just outside the city up the hill, a gap in the stands at one corner of the field allows a view of gorgeous Lac Genève during day games, and at night, the sparkling lights of the city on its shore. Odd Group C games Semifinal 1Siegstadion, Zimmerich Cap. 25,440Siegstadion, or, translated, Victory Stadium, has a lot to represent in Reçueçian culture. Zimmerich's eponymous football club is the premier side in the nation with a background from the German-speaking minority. Thus the stadium represents not only the team and the region it comes from, but to some extent, an entire language group in the country (although some German-speakers have their own teams they choose to root for). The stadium is white and in the form of an elipse, ringed with faux pillars, to conjure up the idea of an ancient Greek temple. Even Group D games Semifinal 2Sporting Field, Renwyll 22,000Sporting Field is the English translation of this stadium's name, known locally as the Champs du Sport. Usually, as with all the other stadiums listed here, that sport is football, but the the locals are excited to see a different kind of entertainment and tickets have been selling quickly. Odd Group B games Quarterfinal IVStade de l’Alliance, Genève Cap. 20,000Another Genevois stadium, Stade de l’Alliance is named for the historical agreement which created Reçueçn as a nation, ensuring that states besides the Duchy of Reçueçn (such as Genève) would have equal footing under the new system of government. Le Stade de l’Alliance is Geneva Lake-Side's home field. Even Group A games Quarterfinal IIIArena der Alpen, Heldingen Cap. 20,000One of only two stadiums hosting games for the world cup which is located in a Germanophone region of the nation, the Arena der Alpen is high in the Reçueçian Alps, and the altitude may pose a small issue for teams not used to playing in similar situations. That said, this is yet another beautiful stadium; Heldingen has great views of the surrounding mountains, and any tourists attending games here may want to schedule a little extra time for a hike. Odd Group D games Third Place PlayoffChapel-Field House, Reçueçn Cap. 15,500The oldest stadium in the nation in continuous professional use, Chapel-Field House gave its name to the team that plays there. Admittedly a small stadium for a tournament of this size, Chapel-Field House is unexpectedly jumping into the limelight during this world cup as normally it and its team are overshadowed by the much bigger Reçueçn FC in the same city. It was chosen to host games during this tournament thanks to its proximity to other stadiums being used in order to cut down on travel time. Fujai
Fujai (fu:'jaɪ, foo-yEYE) is a small nation of just over 7 million residents, located in the northern Polarii continent. While Fujai has a long sporting history, rugby is not a commonly played sport. The sport is most common in rural and industrial areas of the country, particularly in Braskfjord, Mærtesund and Almoren, Elsøra. The Rugby Landslag is made up of the finest players in Fujai, though not many would be considered of truly international quality. It is sponsored by the Rugbyseksjon of Fujansk Idrottsforbund (Fujansk Sports Union) through a partnership with the Kulturministerjon (Ministry of Culture). Most Landslag players come from Fujai's top league, Højserien, though a few come from the second league, Lågserien. The winningest clubs tend to be from the regions of Hasmark and Felvenna.Editor's note on gender: Fujansk culture historically recognizes 4 main genders, though in the last century, gender has been used as a continuum without specific categories (though there are some categories of expression). Since the Fujansk language does not have gendered pronouns, most Fujar choose a set of pronouns to use in the common tongue. The proper pronouns of Landslag players can be found in the team roster.Translator's note: Landslaget translates to "The National Team," while Landslag translates to "National Team." In the common tongue, one would say "the Landslag did well" or "Landslaget did well," not "the Landslaget did well." This is because the Fujansk language uses suffixes to create definite nouns instead of articles. See Den Fujanske Ordboken (The Fujansk Dictionary) for more information. Clarkov
Sunday 23rd February - Matchday 1 - Win Dalimbar Union da Rugby 17-18 Härtferdsierndeambeu Ragbi Junjen (HT: DUR 12-0 HRJ) Tries: Ongo Vidopliassova (42'), Robert Lee (65'), Mina Klebitz (78') Penalties: Scott Bevan (49') First Half Report: The Dalimbari team began the game the better team, inflicting heavy pressure on the Anglian side. This almost relentless pressure soon paid off, with Barta scoring a try in the 13th minute, although a conversion would not follow. At the 25 minute mark, Dalimbar increased their lead thanks to Rybar, and this time Navratil would score his conversion. The rest of the first half was pretty quiet. Hertfordshire and Jammbo had it all to do in the second half. Second Half Report: After Isambard May had a right go at the players for their lacklustre first half performance, the pep talk/angry rant had an effect, as Hertfordshire and Jammbo came out guns blazing and almost immediately scored their first try of the game, courtesy of Ongo Vidopliassova. A conversion, much like most tries in the game, did not get converted. Seven minutes later, and the HRJ lost a player through injury. Williana Zelensky collided with Victor Labelle of Dalimbar and dislocated her shoulder as a result. It is feared she will be out for the rest of the tournament. In response, Scott Bevan secured a penalty. Eventually, Dalimbar picked up steam again, with Rybar scoring his second try of the game, but this would be the limit of the Dalimbari scoreline. At 65 minutes, Robert Lee cleverly manoeuvred his way around the Dalimbari team and put Hertfordshire and Jammbo in with a shout. Again, no conversion. Finally, just 2 minutes before match's end, Mina Klebitz, who had been brought in for the injured Zelensky, scored the try that granted a sneaky victory to the HRJ. There was to be no conversion, but it didn't matter. Hertfordshire and Jammbo had just pulled off an unlikely comeback. Next Time: Härtferdsierndeambeu have two bye days before they do battle against Big Bad Badger at the Chapel-Field House in Reçueçn City. Dalimbar Union da Rugby have one bye day before facing the same opponent at Stade de la Reformation in Genève. Dalimbar and Taledo
Giovanniland
Matchday 1 - Win Teralyon 3-23 Giovanniland Tries: Maria Annabella-Pompeo (15'), Rivano Markellana-Tarrutio (32'), Valentina Abbiano-Kesar (58'), Giovanno Vespasio-Emiliano (72') Penalties: Markio Telliano Ulpio (63') First Half: The Teralyian team scored 3 points in a penalty early at the start of the game, after an infringement of the rules by player Augusta Silvia, which got a red card. Even one player down, the Giovannilandian team did not lose hope, and after many successful defenses from Teralyian attacks, Maria found her way through the opponent's defense and scored a try, with Rivano doing the same some time later. Although both did not score a conversion, the Giovannilandian team had the lead after halftime. Second Half: The second half saw furious attacks from the Teralyian players to score a try. Nevertheless, the Giovannilandian team defended successfully again. After a successfully try by Valentina, a Teralyian player got a red card by injuring Giovannilandian player Stella Vestorio-Belmonte during a defense. Although the injury wasn't serious and hopefully she will recover soon, Markio secured the penalty. A try near the end by Giovanno closed the score with a Giovannilandian win by 23-3. Post-Match: The Giovannilandian coaches congratulated the team for the win, and they hope the next match against Dilber will also be successful. Fujai
DU-UKH, UUK – Keiserholde, Fujai — Hej folks, this is Berit here coming to you from DU-UKH, Den Blå Duken, UiKeiserholde's officially unofficial student radio. The region's first Rugby World Cup has started and the Landslag is off to a roaring start! Our team has, like so many others in our nation, made the trek down to Reçueçn to represent the people in sport. Match day 2 has just ended with the Landslag on bye, but our first match was against the dopers over in Dilber, and apparently they somehow weren't on enough drugs to stop the Landslag from blowing past them 24-22. Despite their famously doped up image, their players seemed somewhat less...enthusiastic? Excited? Stimulated than usual? While some Dilberi fans were understandably confused by their close defeat, the Fujansk supporters were thrilled by the excellent show. Tomorrow we face off against Gïovanniland at Sporting Field in Renwyll. The Gïovannilandiäna are just above us at the top of our group, with an impressive +19 point differential. In the best case scenario, we're projecting a difficult match—but that means it'll be an entertaining one! We'll see you after the timer ends, so until then that's all for today's Idrottsminutt. See you next time! Taledo and Giovanniland
Taledo
TALEDO RUGBY TRUMPS REÇUEÇN, 20-3The Republic Gazette In their first game in the Rugby World Cup, the national rugby team trounced tournament host Reçueçn's own by 20 to 3. The Taledan offense was bold and aggressive from the very start: #2 Febor Gianno scored the first try of the game only a minute in, followed by a conversion from team captain #10 Starn Anton. After five minutes of back-and-forth, Febor scored another try with an assisting pass from #6 Reve Somel. Another conversion from Starn brought the Taledans up 14 points over the Reçuecians. With a sizeable lead, the Taledan team settled comfortably into what it knows best—defense—and continued to hold their opponents to nothing for the rest of the first half. In the second half, #8 Tibi Alphon suffered a sprained ankle and head coach Dardo Giovan wasted no time getting him off the field. After the game Dardo told the press he "wanted to keep his players in peak condition." Taledo's only female player, #19 Gane Tabara, replaced Tibi on the pitch. Despite strong Reçuecian opposition she performed well, moving the ball forward enough for a drop goal by #9 Minci Bartolo. At this point the home team's spirits were broken, and after a half-hearted drop goal of their own they largely ceded the game to Taledo. An additional drop goal by Starn finished the game 20 for Taledo and 3 for Reçuecn. Looking ahead, the Taledan team will play the very aggressive Nieubasrian team on Wednesday, putting their defensive skills to a more proper test. Giovanniland
Matchday 2 - Loss Dilber 13-12 Giovanniland Tries: Skipio Abudia-Lukullo (33'), Lukio Katullo-Vittori (75') Conversions: Horatio Abrente (76') First Half: The Dilberian team's aggressive style of play got them an early try after only 3 minutes from the start of the play. However, further Dilberian attacks were unsuccessful, and half an hour later, Skipio found his way to score a try and draw the game, but no conversion would follow. At the very end of the first half, the Dilberian team scored another try and got the halftime lead. Second Half: the Giovannilandian team did not give up even being down 5 points, and maintained a solid defense. Unfortunately, 10 minutes later, a Dilberian player managed to score a drop goal, which increased the difference up to 8 points. Further attempts were blocked by both teams for 25 more minutes. Lukio then scored a try, and Horatio got 2 more points for Giovanniland with a conversion. But that wasn't enough, and the Dilberian team was still 1 point ahead. More desperate attempts by the Giovannilandian team would come during these last 5 minutes, but no more points were scored, ending the match with a 13-12 win for The Dilberian Dopin' Dogs. Post-Match: The Giovannilandian coaches said that the team will not lose hope even after this loss, and congratulated the team for not giving up even with 8 points behind. However, some Giovannilandian supporters are thinking of a petition to ban drug use on further TWP Rugby World Cups, unhappy with the result. Looking ahead, the coaches also say that the next match against Fujai will be interesting, with both teams more defensive. Reçueçn
The hosts of this world cup finally got a chance to play their first game, having had a bye on the first matchday. Unfortunately, the results were not at all what they were hoping for. A 20-3 drubbing at the hands of the Taledans thoroughly crushed the Unicorns' spirits, and disappointed the sold out crowd they were playing in front of at the Stade de la Reformation in Geneva. As in other sports, Reçueçn's national rugby team tends to be a little more on the defensive side, so it was a surprise when the Taledan offense just continued to walk right through them over and over during the first half of the game. The Reçuecians were still trying, but with less and less hope as it became clear that it would take a miracle for a comeback to happen. It was the second half of the second half already by the time The Unicorns scored any points at all. If they'd been able to get three tries they might have been able to win it, but at the end of their most successful drive all game, when it was becoming clear they wouldn't get the seven points, they decided to kick a drop goal instead, giving up on even keeping the dream of victory alive. The fans weren't sure how to respond. They'd finally scored, but it meant the game was essentially over. After that the Reçuecians hardly contested the rest of the match, and Taledo scored another three points to close things out. Hopefully the upcoming match for Reçueçn against its next-door neighbors Nieubasria goes a little better. Fujai, Taledo and Giovanniland
