    Welcome!

Welcome to TWP's first summer Olympics, hosted in the Cambrian capital city of Saint-Josalyn! For the first time, athletes from all across the West Pacific gather in one place to represent their nations in all the summer sports, compete with each other, and take home the gold! The games will start tomorrow, but tonight all the dignitaries, celebrities, athletes and fans have packed into the arena to witness the lighting of the Olympic torch, the parade of nations, and the opening ceremonies. How are your athletes celebrating this first ever ceremony, and what are they doing to prepare for the games?

  5. You can't get enough of it. You wanted more of it. We heard you. So here it is: Map update! :P

    This month we welcome @Anto70@Korea East, @Harmon, @Knight123, @Atdheun, @Yorubrailia, @CanadianMaps(eareamland), @Rojo Nico (SMMR), @trhills21, @Cesteranta, @LoOhNo, @United Auroran Republic, @the Citizens of Hong Kong, @wilstilplays, @VVane, and @Artztokzsia. It's awesome to have you all!

A bunch of you had conflicting map claims or other issues that needed sorted out so thanks for being flexible and patient throughout that process.

As always, members must maintain citizen status to stay on the map. This month we lost Burakis, Boda (Croblad), Mulvana, and The Empire of the Mighty Ones (Edbman).

    Here it is!

  6. Thanks for considering it! For that last link I did notice that the dev had responded to questions in the support thread as recently as October (ok, for a given definition of recently :P) and there seems to be activity there even this month, but I also see that the most recent published compatibility is version 4.3 and it looks like we're on 4.4 now.

Anyway, thanks again for looking into it, it's really appreciated. Let us know whenever you come to a decision (or, if it winds up being a plugin or other solution that has a cost attached, I'd be willing to chip in or cover it). Kudos!

  7. Hi,

I've got a bit of an unusual request, which I'm not sure will be easy/possible to fulfill, but I figure I might as well ask and see.

I'm looking ahead in one of the games we're playing in the clubhouse, where the players are on a board kind of like monopoly, and it would be nice to be able to roll dice to move around on the board. I'd like to be able to do that online, while verifying that people aren't rerolling to get a number they want, but it would be even better if there was a way to do it on the forums without needing any outside resource.

I don't know anything about how the technical side of the forum works, but I've discovered that there are plugins which apparently allow this functionality. I'm not sure if they work with this specific kind of forum, or host, or whatever (as I said I don't really know what that is), but would an admin be able to look into adding a dice plugin like that?

Here's a couple links I found that seem to advertise a free dice forum plugin:

    https://mods.mybb.com/view/dymy-dice

    https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=434&t=1816135

And here's one that costs $5 but is posted on the invision forums:

    https://invisioncommunity.com/files/file/8692-ne-dice-roller/

It might be hard for me to make an online payment to cover this—it's a long story—but I'd be willing to try to figure something out if that was the only option.

Thanks so much for looking into this! I don't know if it's possible but I really appreciate any response (as well as all the effort the admins already put in).

  8. Hey hey hey, it's everybody's favorite time of the month... This month, we welcome @Nark, @Zoran, @Arracrania, and @Alexandria! We're excited to have you guys join us!

Unfortunately, @GustavovWhately, @Triestine, and @Otaran, you've let your citizenship lapse which means I've had to take you off the map. If you want to get back in on it, just reapply for citizenship and then drop a line in this thread to let us know!

So, without further ado: here it is!

  9. Reçuecian Response to Jammbian Protesters

The Reçuecian government found itself in a tricky situation hosting the world cup. No one had expected it to be such a political event. But the, of course, the protests started. At first the response was deemed to harsh, when Rocher-Éby had a few dozen Fujar arrested. But then, on releasing them, the Dalimbar government complained that Reçueçn was being too soft. So the gendarmes were sent to the embassy and a new executive order passed by the government, but the protests allowed to continue elsewhere.

Now, more protesters from Hertfordshire and Jammbo were making things even worse by directly doing what the new edict had expressly forbidden—interfering with embassies. The gendarmes watched in disbelief as the crowd of protesters tried to break into the Dalimbar embassy and start tearing down security installments, before rushing to stop them. It wasn't difficult—unlike the police, the gendarmes were fairly heavily armed given the situation they were facing, and there were a lot more of them now.

This time the Reçuecians could not be so soft. In both cases they had given warnings ahead of time, but this was a second, more aggravated assault (if it could be called an assault). With the new law treating this as a direct threat to national security, the Jammbians were facing many years in prison.

But it didn't quite work out that way. There was no way to deal with so many citizens of a foreign nation without it becoming an issue. Their government was bound to step in, and when it did it was almost a relief for the host nation. They hadn't wanted to deal with this problem in the first place—in fact, they sympathized with the protesters, even if it did start to seem that they'd taken things too far. So the Reçuecians were more than happy to extradite the Jammbians back to Andolia, once they were assured that they would indeed be tried once they came home and face charges in the kingdom's Crown Court, with a possible sentence of up to 14 years if convicted of a breach of a nation's sovereign territory with intent to harm. The Reçuecians couldn't just let the people get off scott-free—they'd have to answer to Dalimbar if they let that happen—but they didn't want to wind up with them in Reçuecian jail cells either.

So was it a happy ending to the tournament? Well, hopefully the Jammbians could enjoy winning the tournament anyhow. And Reçueçn had mostly successfully hosted the event. It may have caused crisis, but at least it brought the different members of The West Pacific together for a moment on the rugby pitch.

  10. The Reçuecian government really didn't know what to do about this whole protest situation with the Fujansk and others, concerning the Dalimbar landmine issue. Given the nation's own laws and attitude toward public protest, not to mention longstanding alliance with Fujai, they couldn't really file charges against the protesters who'd been arrested or try to detain foreign citizens. Yet the foreign affairs ministry found itself in a difficult situation where the government policy and public opinion aligned with Fujai on the issue, but the ministry couldn't just ignore Dalimbar's complaints, which were entirely valid. The sanctity of their embassy had to be protected. The last thing Reçueçn wanted was to be seen as  a distant, unstable foreign country where people rioted outside your embassy. Some sort of crackdown was needed, or at least measures to make sure that this never happened again.

So, the ministry issued a statement: protests would be allowed, but not near any embassies. New laws would be passed to make sure that any activity that might be seen as a threat to an embassy or any foreign property would become a very serious offense, and gendarmes—the only branch of Reçuecian law enforcement to carry weapons—were stationed outside the Dalimbar embassy until the tournament was over. An official apology was sent to Dalimbar about the incident, and Rocher-Éby felt herself totally exonerated.

But in the meantime, Reçuecian citizens began to join in with the Fujansk protests and to take on the cause as their own.

  11. Could I get this comment deleted? I made a mistake typing it and since it's the rules for the game didn't want to edit it, but was then surprised not to find a delete button. (Or maybe there is one and I'm just too stupid to find it.) I've hidden it for now but obviously for me it still shows up so if it could go away for good that would be great. (Without destroying the rest of the thread, please! XD)

    Thanks!

  12. When Reçueçn City Chief of Police Marie Rocher-Éby warned the FRF that police officers would be stationed outside the Dalimbari embassy, waiting to arrest those showing up for the planned protest, people started coming out of the woodwork to let her know how bad of an idea that was. Perhaps she even began to regret the statement she had made. But after making such a bold proclamation, she certainly felt she had to either back it up or lose face. The police officers, then were duly stationed as they awaited the protest to find out if the Police Chief's warnings had dissuaded anybody.

They had not. In fact, the protesters came in far greater numbers than the police expected. Four hundred people didn't choke the streets or look particularly impressive from an aerial camera, but considering that the crowd was almost entirely made up of non-Reçuecians, (pretty much all Fujar visitors for the Rugby World Cup), the turnout was remarkable. The police officers, standing their ground outside the Dalimbari embassy, felt increasingly outnumbered and worried about how this might turn out.

Yet as the protest began, timidly at first, demonstrators wondering if the police would somehow try to lock everybody up, the officers did nothing. Some were surprised; if Rocher-Éby had promised arrests, why were the cops merely watching as things began to unfold? In fact, the decision made sense. The protesters had called Rocher-Éby's bluff—it would be illegal to arrest peaceful protesters if they did nothing else wrong—the rights to assembly and demonstration were enshrined in Reçuecian law. The police officers could do nothing but watch and wait, hoping that the protesters would do something that could be construed as illegal to justify breaking up the demonstration.

The crowd slowly grew bigger and louder. Megaphones appeared, and people started waving flags—it was clear that these people were sports fans who knew how to organize this sort of thing. The police grew ever more worried; weren't there so many stories of sports riots breaking out? What would follow if that happened here, where there were no riot police present, and only a few cops, vastly outnumbered by the crowd? Someone climbed on a box and began to yell a highly political speech. That was still no justification for the police to do anything. But then, as the speech ended, the confusion grew, the mob grew louder, and... explonsions!?

The officers began to panic. Some called for reinforcements while others launched into the crowd, trying to find what exactly was going on and who was doing it. The officers' fear for their own safety clouded their thinking, and the began to overreact. Had they had time to think out their actions, however, they probably would have followed the same course; throwing firecrackers was disturbance of the peace, and here at an embassy it was a much more serious charge. They had the excuse they needed and began to round up protesters and place them under arrest.

Of course, this dispersed the crowd pretty quickly. No one who'd come to Reçueçn to watch some rugby games wanted to spend the night in jail, and perhaps longer if this turned into some complicated international scandal. The demonstrators began to run while the police caught who they could. One of the first ones in handcuffs was the person who'd made the speech. The officers had kept their eyes on them. Most of those who'd thrown firecrackers were arrested as well, although a couple got away. But other members of the crowd as well were taken back with the police officers to detention. All told, by the time the smoke cleared and the street in front of the embassy was empty again, except for a few officers left to continue to stand guard, 46 protesters had been detained. Only five were Reçuecian citizens. The rest were foreign nationals, mostly Fujar.

Currently, all 46 are still in jail, and charges have not been filed—the Reçueçn City district attorneys have forty-eight hours to decide what charges to file. It looks like some fans might be missing a rugby game or two.

In sporting news, Fujai, Dalimbar, and Reçueçn have all advanced to the quarterfinals of the world cup. If Fujai and Reçueçn continue to advance, they will face each other in the semifinal next round, a match that may now come with more tension than was expected before.
