Eli is Eli is Eli.  He likes what he likes and he loathes everything else.  (That's an IC position by the way, people,  Don't be getting all bent out of shape)

Welcome back, Cormac.  I did, indeed challenge him to come back and invest his time and effort here.  In this time of change and flux, people are on edge.  But all this stress will be for naught, if we all run away when we face loud, rude opposition.  Fight for your individual visions and remember, in the end the ideal is some compromise between them all.

Not everyone can win elections.  No one can have their vision of the region 100% purely incorporated.  But we all want what we think is best for TWP.  So, Argue on!

Curiously, one of TWP'S most amazing cultural assets is the old thread hijacking. One needs always expect whatever in any thread.
I could open a new thread about how deliciostrawberriesy ice cream is and see it die 27 pages later as a debate on the topics if abortion and the right to life.

Takes a damn strong character to come back and say that, respect to you. I sincerely hope people start getting along, and I'm certain there are many contributions for you to make in time.

So, Delegate Darkesia noted on IRC earlier that I'm too thin skinned, and that when I feel too many people are opposed to me, I invest my time in more pleasant surroundings. That's generally true, because I don't see the point in sticking around somewhere you're broadly disliked.

That said, I feel that I'm responsible for people disliking me here by not being more respectful of The West Pacific's political culture, and by proposing a big plan without first putting any actual effort into TWP and becoming part of the community. That doesn't sit well with me and it also doesn't sit well with me that some have been left with a negative impression of me without actually getting to know me and see me do something productive. So I would like to contribute here a bit less aggressively and with a somewhat thicker skin toward those who don't like me, some of whom didn't like me long before I ever tried to participate here, which is fine for them.

So, my apologies for the disrespect to your political culture. I should put in the time and effort to be part of your community before thinking I should have input on how it should be run, and that's what I'm going to do.

Know what, let's just end it. We'll see how the elections go and take it from there- but please, no more vicious attack ads. Let's see what the actual people want. It's tied right now. Again.

I am so sick of this ()*^^% NPO fallout. If this were RL I would head to the nearest bar and drink to dull the comingpain, then head off to find Feux and AMOM to kick their butts.  This is OUR region, not theirs.  *grumbles*

I recommend replacing office names with Flintstone Character names during the drafting stage. It's a real trick I learned from editing academic papers. It keeps bias and assumption out of it. You can fight about names later and focus on the viability of the work.

The HGA has greatly disappointed me.  It elected a completely inactive Prime Minister previously, and now seeks to elect a Prime Minister that hates our community.

    The HGA should be ashamed.

As I stated in another thread.  Should this candidate win the election to head this government, I will NOT be cooperating with any government lead by him.  He hates this region enough to do what he has done?  Let him go elsewhere.

I strongly suggest those who wish to invest their time productively, abandon this government and form a new one.

Are you really so ignorant and out of touch? Just because I oppose you in this election you think that justifies disparaging the entire governmental structure on the NS Gameplay forum? You even include part of your supposed platform as a reason I voted for Elegarth in the complaint there? I like how you are already spreading your incompetence to the rest of NS on our behalf.

This govt and its leadership are not 'officially' sanctioned by the in game government, the in game government just doesn't prevent this from happening in keeping with our long tradition of true laissez faire governing. We've had more that one forum govt going at the same time before.

And Vlagh is right we are too anarchical to believe that there can't be multiple claims to legitimacy.

The point is Llamas, you EARN in game cred by the service you provide to the members here and on the game site.

The election is not in and of itself evidence of your having earned that in game influence. That doesn't mean you can't get there and winning an election is evidence that you can build political sway, but it's just the first step my camelid friend

My main concern with your candidacy is that you don't seem to have a firm grasp of how our system actually works.

It would appear that you will win this election, but it may be the case that some will leave the Assembly and form an opposing government or simply go with Arch and try out a new constitutional convention to create something different.

Who knows.  What I do know is that I am surprised that so many people are voting for someone to uphold the ideals of a system that he doesn't seem to support.

What you said makes no sense.

Whoever wants to join another TWP government is welcome to do so.  And my government will recognize these forums just as much as this government.  As I have said, we have had two governments on the form...actually three...at one time.  That has nothing to do with ingame.  No one on any offsite forum anywhere can demand an ingame position.  They might get one if the region desires to be managed that way, that's true.  But the hard reality is that Max and NationStates do not recognize offsite forums in any way, shape, or form.  There is no higher authority than the Delegate ingame.  If the Delegate says 'no', that's the end of it.

So ingame does not equal offsite.

Qartistan, I think you are missing the whole point.  We don't WANT to be like other places, especially RL places.  Keep it simple.
Example:  There are no citizenship rules except that of residency.  That was clearly stated in the document above.  It is always a bad idea to restrict voting rights/citizenship by post count or WA status or endo count or being "voted" for in a popularity contest.  Don't disenfranchise anyone residing in the region.

I am aware of what is going on behind the scenes.  Yes, Llamas is behaving with questionable integrity, though I imagine it has more to do with maturity level than with nefarious intent.  And Yes, Elegarth should step back and remember that dirty politics are harmless in a game.  It will help him keep a cool head in the face of frequent irritation.

This is the section I have so far describing what is usually called the "legislative" area of government. I hesitate to use that term since what I'm proposing doesn't fit a "traditional" model of government at all, but yeah. This essentially combines the Assembly Act, the PM Act (I've used the name Speaker largely because I find the name PM to be uninspired), and elements of the Electoral Act as well. I've left out points on ministries and other elected officials but will add them -- I just need to go to sleep right now and wanted to give people something to chew on for now.

Like I attempted to say but failed because I can't spell; bare with me. I'm proposing a system where the Delegate and the Assembly can collectively hold authority and guide the course of the region, without infringing upon each other, through a delicate system of balance and convention which I feel reflects our current de facto way of doing things anyway.

    Hi everyone.

Now, bear with me. Beer with me? No, bear I think. Yes.

What I'm about to propose might seem strange. But I think it worth at least considering.

I'd like to propose a draft of a single constitution that I've had in the back of my mind for many a month now. It is essentially the result of my gathered knowledge and experience of being a member of this community for two years now.

The core idea is that is would result in the abolishment of every single current law we have (which, and no offense to the authors, I think are confusing in nature) in favour of a single document that outlines the structure of the entire region, including in game. That last bit will seem controversial right now, but trust me when I say it is very carefully wording so as to maintain our careful balance -- I love the division of gameside authority we have now and would never subject the Delegate to offsite authority, and this document would need to be approved by the Delegate to advance (which shouldn't be a problem as it doesn't infringe on them at all really).

I think a single eloquent document like this would be in the spirit of TWP. We aren't strong legislators and this would make everything clean, giving a nice and simple platform for governance and allowing us to focus our efforts elsewhere. I feel like legislation at the moment is consuming far too much of the amazing Elegarth's spirit. A single document might seem less organic than our mess of stuff, but it is worded around ideas that have developed organically, so I think this not something to worry about.

I have the ideas but haven't yet fully written it. What I would like to know is if any TWP members are interested in this at all? Just a guage so to speak. The document would of course be fully open to adaptation by my fellow TWPers before we did any implementation.
