  1. Private Residence of the Marshal

”… and before we adjourn to head to Garrison, I just want to confirm if you’re absolutely serious about this, Valerian.” Marshal Briand was having quite the morning, between the barbarians playing war, the Zoranians cosplaying being a civilization, the Rugby World Cup, and now his Far-Eastern Control Zone commander indicating his desire for retirement.

“Yes, my Marshal. Situation in the Far-East has been stable for a while now and my doctor is getting more concerned about my heart. In his words, it’s time for the dacha.” replied Valerian Viktorov.

“Fine, fine. In that case, a toast to your health and retirement.” Despite it being 10 in the morning, the Marshal pulls out a bottle of his favourite Dalimbari vodka and pours a shot for himself and the Field Commander.

“Vashe dorov’ye! Urra Dalimbar!” both men shout as they take their drink.

“Now, I better get ready for tonight. We will talk in the coming days about transition planning for the Far-East. I don’t want the hill people being happy at losing one of their main foes. You know how the Vostochii can get.” Briand chuckled and dismissed Viktorov.

  3. Statement by Rear Admiral Aleksey Klement, Chief of External Affairs, on behalf of Stavka of the Free State of Dalimbar

"While the Free State is attempting to foster peace through sport, bringing together rivals and foes from across Esferos together for friendly competition, Stavka is deeply concerned regarding multiple actions occurring in different parts of the globe at this time.

We are monitoring the situation in the Mille-Mer and note that while piracy remains an issue within the high seas across the world, we find it peculiar that states which often demand "peace and and dialogue" to resolve conflict are instead seemingly building up a task force to potentially invade a neighbouring sovereign state. While outside of any Dalimbari areas of interest, we are hopeful that operations remain confined to anti-piracy and does not develop mission creep, especially into any Dalimbari areas of interest.

We strongly denounce the sale of 69 fighter jets from the barely functioning Zoranian regime to Kalmach. While Stavka was starting to explore potential trade relations with Kalmach, they have made their intentions clear that they would rather have shoddy products from a backwards state than the tools needed to complete their agenda. We condemn both the Zoranian and Kalmachian regimes for their flagrant disrespect of the peace of sport. We further are encouraged by the statement released by Nieubasria regarding this situation.

We would like to note that the repatriation of the criminal Nazer Ablaiev from the Kingdom of Cambria back to the Free State is complete. He has been sentenced of committing the crime of treason against the Free State and shall be incarcerated at a labour camp in District 15 and shall remain there for the rest of his existence. We thank Cambria for their cooperation on this matter.

Finally, we are pleased that the leaders of Giovanniland and Saint Mark will be joining Marshal Briand and the rest of Stavka for a state dinner at Oborin Palace here in Saint Andreisburg. More details will follow."

  4. A Day Out in Saint Andreisburg

St. Petersburg | Map, Points of Interest, & History | Britannica

You are a tourist in the strange land of Dalimbar, here for the Rugby World Cup. Perhaps you came from a economically advanced civilization, perhaps not. All you know is that the city you are in, Saint Andreisburg, is big and foreign looking. At least the programming on Free State TV has Common subtitles, lest you be absolutely confused on why they're showing advertisements for tractors in between shows on "The Path" and rugby.

You may be looking for things to do within this "Rugby Zone" the Dalimbari have restricted you to as a "guest". It's a surprisingly large area of the city, full of history, culture and unexpected beauty. Stepping outside of your hotel, you see that along the canal there is a boat tour which gives you a peaceful tour of the architecture of the core of Saint Andreisburg. You see otters and other creatures swimming and playing in the canals as the boat leads you to the famous Oborin Palace.

Tour Peterhof Palace and Gardens in Russia

Commissioned by Marshal Petrov Oborin in 1113, it was designed to showcase the might and splendor of the Dalimbari nation while serving as the residence of the Marshal. Although it no longer serves as the residence of the Marshal, it still is used for cultural events for the Free State. Outside in the gardens are dozens of fountains and over 200 bronze statues of famous Dalimbari heros. You reach the Grand Cascade just in time for the mid-afternoon fountain show, set to a live performance of classical Dalimbari music.

Taking the local street-car system, you look to find something to snack on as you're getting peckish. Thankfully there are plenty of small cafes and restaurants around, and you've heard of the Dalimbari cuisine of "zakuski". It is an assortment of small dishes, such as pickled vegetables, smoked fish, cured meats, cheeses, and spreads, often accompanied by vodka or other drinks.

Following a delectable meal and libation, you walk along the canals and pass along the Fontanka Bridge, decorated with four striking bronze horse sculptures. You reach the Gostinkii Divor, an enormous shopping block that dates back to the 12oos and is now home to a variety of shops and boutiques.

After a day of exploring the city, you make your way to the Baryshnikov Theatre for a performance of Dalimbari ballet. The form is characterized by a unique combination of strength and grace, with dancers performing highly intricate and physically demanding movement with apparent ease. In tonight's performance, you see a production of The Sailor which includes this scene:

Following the performance you head back to the hotel, knowing that tomorrow your team will be playing another game of rugby. You hope they win. Maybe they will?

"Live from Garrison: An Interview with Luka Ivika"

Journalist: Good afternoon viewers from across the Free State and around the world! I'm here with Luka Ivika, captain of the Boys in Blue, the Dalimbari rugby team. After their surprising tie with historical rivals Hertsfordshire and Jammbo, Ivika and the Boys faced off against fellow Polarii nation Teralyon and won 19 to 7. Luka, tell me, how does it feel to be representing the Free State in such a prestigious tournament?

Luka Ivika: Thank you, it is an honour and privilege to be part of the team that represents our dear nation on home soil in the Rugby World Cup. It's a huge responsibility, but we're ready for the challenge.

Journalist: Your recent win against Teralyon was impressive. Your own try of speeding from the Dalimbari try line all the way across the field and leaving the other side in the dust was thrilling to watch. How do you plan to build on that success going forward, especially with your next match against Sekiya coming up in Nadu?

Ivika: We're taking it one match at a time, but our focus is on improving with every game. We've analyzed Sekiya's playing style and we're preparing accordingly. We want to maintain our momentum and keep pushing ourselves to be better.

Journalist: As captain of the team, what's your strategy for leading your teammates both on and off the field?

Ivika: I believe in leading by example. I try to stay disciplined in my own game and communicate well with my teammates. We're a tight-knit group and we trust each other, which helps us perform at our best.

Journalist: That's great to hear! Lastly, as the hosts, do you feel any added pressure to perform well int he tournament?

Ivika: Of course, there's always some pressure when you're playing in front of your home crowd. But we're using that pressure as motivation to perform at our best. We're proud to represent Dalimbar and we want to make our country proud.

Journalist: Well, we're excited to see how you and the team continue to perform in the Rugby World Cup. Thank you for speaking with us today, Luka, and best of luck in your upcoming matches.

Ivika: Thank you, it's been a pleasure.

Matvei: (Blushing) "Just doing my part, Valeriya. You were amazing!"

[The scene ends with Valeriya, Matvei, and Mr. Petrov walking back to the village, the harvested fields in the background, as they talk about the next steps in the farming season and the camaraderie among the villagers.]

  9. On Day 3, the shock of the day was the tie between two historical rivals, Dalimbar vs Hertsfordshire and Jammbo. Home turf advantage and their ranking advantage would suggest that the Boys in Blue would wipe out their opponents, something about H&J always seems to unnerve the Dalimbari. A tie is an improvement for the Dalimbari, but the Rankings was disappointed and awarded H&J 3.67 points.

The break day Sekiya had must have done them wonders, as they now claim the most lop-sided match in RWC history with a 31 point victory. This gave them a 5.26 point boost, which is a must need at this point in the tournament.

Zoran and Giovanniland had a grudge match which only resulted in one try-convert from the Zoranians. While this is the second match this tournament that Giovanniland was unable to score a single point, the fact they prevented Zoran from running away with the points (both in the game and in the Rankings) is perhaps a consolation prize.

Morning Studies of the Path: Episode 181

Good morning kin and children of the Dalist Path. While we await the struggles of the temporal, and we pray for victory on the rugby pitch, we must attend to the needs of the spiritual through the Path.

The mission of all kin is to walk the Path and to blaze a trail for the Path throughout the lands. There are too many who do not know what even the Path is. They wander aimlessly. They are lost. We must put them on the Path for their salvation.

The Path was laid by our earliest ancestors who came to this land of barbarity and backwardness. We honour and revere our righteous ancestors, those who came before us, in the hopes that they will provide us guidance and blessings in this fleeting moment we call "life". This is why we provide offerings to ancestors at temple, why we pray to the ancestors, why we shout their glory and wisdom.

We ask that you join us in a prayer to the ancestors:

    "Oh, revered ancestors
We come before you with humble hearts,
Honouring your memory and seeking your guidance.

    Through your wisdom and blessings,
May we find our way along the Path,
And may we earn the salvation that you have attained.

    Accept these offerings we bring,
As tokens of our respect and devotion,
And know that we hold your memory dear in our hearts.

Guide us and protect us, ancestors,
And may we always honour your legacy and follow your example."

Thank you. We will now reflect and cleanse our thoughts while listening to the Choir of the Path of Saint Andreisburg.

  12. Day 2 saw the introduction of the "big four" of Zoran, Dalimbar, Cambria, and United Adaikes, into the tournament.

Zoran faced off against Saint Mark, and both sides played a great game of rugby which ultimately Zoran won. Dalimbar played against Larxia and had one of their highest score differentials ever and tied with the Overthinkers' match against Libterraria on Day 1. Cambria demonstrated why they're head of Group C in their match with Libterraria, who are still perhaps feeling the effects of their previous match. United Adaikes barely saw off a strong squad from Fujai, winning by 1.

Ostronia, Saranzio, Kalmach, and Ryxtylopia had upsets in their respective matches. Hertfordshire and Jammbo along with Dilber are not performing to the same level as they did in earlier editions of the RWC.

  13. Rugby is back, baby!  With the "big four" of rugby (Zoran, Dalimbar, Cambria, and United Adaikes) being able to sit back and watch their competition, the new squads and old alike were able to see out of them who could face the best in the sport.

Overthinkers is looking pretty good. They absolutely crushed returning team Libterraria 26-0, which is the widest spread since RWC2 Day 6 when Dalimbar beat... Libterraria by 27 points. Power move from the newcomers, who gained an impressive 4.45 points in the Rankings.

Teralyon had a similar match against Sekiya, besting their opponents by 17, and gaining 3.87 points. Saint Mark also had a good day against Apexiala, blanking their opponents 15-0.

And then there were the two ties. Two strong teams, Larxia and Giovanniland, could not break their opponents and tied. Giovanniland had the misfortune of not even able to score... anything. Their opponent did not either, but that's not a great start to the tournament. Cheers to Ostronia and Saranzio for fending off their foes!

"... and with us at Live from Garrison! is the fastest man in all of Dalimbari rugby, the captain of the Boys in Blue, the one! the only! Luka Ivica!"

    Jordan%2BConroy.jpg?format=500w

Picture of Luka flashes on the screen before he walks into the studio. He waves to the audience and gives a wink to the host, Katya Radoslava.

"Well hello, Luka! Welcome to Live from Garrison! How are you, darling?" Katya beams back at Luka.

"Amazing! Just... amazing. It's a dream come true..." he starts.

"Being on my show? Oh how sweet of you!" she playfully interjects.

"Hah, that too! But of course of having the Rugby World Cup here! In Saint Andreisburg!"

"It really is a dream come true, isn't it? Now, because we have a lot of guests here in the country and all eyes of the world are on us today, could you tell the world a little bit about yourself, Luka?" she smiles at him, nodding encouragingly.

"Oh! Hello outside world! I'm Luka, born and raised here in Saint Andreisburg and I play for Geness. I'm captain of our great squad, and I may dabble in dancing on and off the pitch."

"That you do! Viewers, as you may know our own captain was a contestant on VIP Dance and won!"

Picture of Luka with his dance partner, Ivona Aljosa, at the finals of VIP Dance, where they danced tango, the national danceThe crowd erupts in applause.

"I wouldn't have won if it weren't for my partner Ivona. Without each other, we would be nowhere. We built each other up and each dance, we knew each other more. She is to dance as my Boys in Blue are to rugby. The Boys and I build each other up. Each game, we face the enemy together. We all need each other to win." he had a proud look in his eyes while the audience was enthralled.

"We're just going to do a quick commercial break, but please stick with us when we bring out......... Ivona Aljosa! Stay right there!"

  16. Fortress Siniyled, Saint Andreisburg, District 1

”… and with dignitaries and other spectators starting to arrive, the data being collected by the mass surveillance network is probably more than what our branch would have been able to collect in years. Blue Cards have been operating as planned and it appears that along with visual data from cameras and reports from frontline Militsiya members, we are able to essentially live track all foreigners. I’m glad we made that investment of the network when we did.” Lt. Gen. Danylo Valeriev from Joint Operations Branch finished his report to Stavka.

”Absolutely. I’m not going to lie, having all of these… guests… milling around disturbs me. Containing them in the… what did we call it again, “Rugby Zones”? Great name by the way, the group who came up with that should get a merit badge… but yes, containing them in these zones away from the more unruly masses is good. Your branch has done well keeping tabs on these foreigners, let’s hope it holds.” said Marshal Briand.

”Just a friendly reminder…” started Rear Adm. Maksim Hornik of Public Affairs, before being cut off.

”Yes, we are a warm people, a friendly people…” multiple people mutter.

“Ahem. Yes. And to moderate the tone when dealing with press, especially the foreign outlets. I’m sure the hill dwarfs and the kilties will have a field day if we belittle the dirty for… I mean, guests. See, I know it’s hard. Even for me…” Hornik sighed.

  19. Welcome to Dalimbar!

The Department of Sports is so proud that we are the hosts of Rugby World Cup 4.

To ensure that rankings are correct, we were instructed to do an audit of previously published rankings. Inconsistencies found were rectified and the rankings presented through this page have been corrected. This has been done to ensure that any market activity with this information is not tainted with incorrect data. (This may have had something to do why Zoran and Dalimbar were in the mid-60s in RWC3).

Welcome new teams! New squads have been awarded with 45.00 points to start the tournament. We also have a nation returning to the tournament after missing last years, and will keep their points from last time they were competing. Finally, as per tradition, teams competing last year in Zoran but not here in Dalimbar will be italicized

Here's the Rugby Rankings going into the tournament:

    1. Zoran - 62.61
    2. Dalimbar - 57.04
    3. Cambria - 55.07
    4. Larxia - 53.48
    5. Libterraria - 52.82
    6. United Adaikes - 51.91
    7. Fujai - 51.29

Welcome to Dalimbar! Host of the Rugby World Cup IV!

For the Dalimbari, rugby is a religion. In the warrior society of the early Dalimbari, games of strength and strategy became a way for the aspiring to showcase themselves with their units and defend their honour. Throughout the centuries where a ball was introduced and rules explored, the Dalimbari throughout the Starija core lands developed what they called "rugby". Other nations, many surprisingly outside of Polaris, also found themselves drawn to the sport. This happened through some cultural exchange with Dalimbar, particularly in the past three hundred years. The showcase event of the Rugby World Cup (RWC) has demonstrated Dalimbari strength in the game while reminding them that the sport has gone international. The Dalimbari, from Nadu in the west to Port Ain in the east, aspires to "bring it home".

Modern rugby in the Free State is administered by the "Union da Rugby", organizing the national team and the "Liga Rugby", a 40-team league which competes for the Marshal's Cup. All 19 Districts of the Free State host at least one team, with Saint Andreisburg, Donlas, and Kaisah hosting multiple squads. All are determined to hoist the Marshal's Cup in front of the Marshal and the nation in Garrison Stadium. Intense sports-betting and statistical analysis are undertaken by enthusiasts, which has been exported to the international tournament scene with the "Rugby Rankings" provided by the Department of Sports.

The Free State of Dalimbar is proud to host Rugby World Cup IV. With a culture and infrastructure which supports a successful tournament, we know it is our time to host the most prestigious event in all Esferos. The Marshal and Stavka of the Free State commits to hosting a fair and friendly games for the entire world to enjoy.

    On behalf of Stavka,
    Lev Toksin, Chair

Getting into Dalimbar (and What are Blue Cards?)

    Spoiler

Welcome to the Free State of Dalimbar! We hope you enjoy your time here for the Rugby World Cup IV and to enjoy all that Dalimbar has to offer.

All visitors to the Free State will be flying into our main international airport, Saint Andreisburg--Marshal Aleksiev International Airport (SAA). Upon arrival, tourists will go to the Militsiya Customs desk for inspection and documentation. Once processed they will receive their "Blue Card". Representatives of participating squads and their governments should arrive before the influx of tourists to pre-arrange Blue Card distribution to their sides.

The Blue Card is a document the size of a credit card which indicates that you are permitted free access to all the Rugby Zones across the Free State. It will have a picture of you, a bar code, and a chip for financial transactions while in Free State. This is your core piece of ID while in Dalimbar and also functions as a debit card, where you can exchange your currency to FS Credits and pay for all transactions. We ask that you always carry your Blue Card on your person, regardless of status or rank in your home country. Failure to do so will result in temporary incarceration while your Blue Card is located and possible deportation or further detention may happen.

Once you have received your Blue Card, you are free to start exploring the "Rugby Zones" throughout Starija Dalimbar, or the western core-lands of Dalimbar. The Sky Metro (Nebesnoy Metro, NM) rapid transit system (OOC: akin to Skytrain in Vancouver) will take you from the airport to Dukhob Station in central Saint Andreisburg. From there, if you are heading to either Kaisah or Donlas, you will be using the Rapid Train (Skoryy Poyezd, SP) system, taking 1 hour 35 minutes to reach Donlas and 2 hours 45 minutes to reach Kaisah. Those staying in Saint Andreisburg can make ample use of the Sky Metro and other local transit to move around the Saint Andreisburg "Rugby Zone". Spectators going to Nadu will need to head to the Vanino Ferry Terminal to take the 3 hour 30 minute trip to Nadu.

Rugby Zones, Where You Can Go

    Spoiler

The cities of Saint Andreisburg, Nadu, Donlas, and Kaisah each host a "Rugby Zone". These are the sections of those communities where Blue Pass holders have free access, from the stadiums to restaurants, tourist attractions, lodging, and other areas of interest for the visitor to Dalimbar. As a state with relative tensions in some areas, we wish to provide for a safe and secure games for the enjoyment of all.

Saint Andreisburg is the capital, first founded, and largest city of the Free State with a population of just over 9 million. It is the centre of all Dalimbari activity, the headquarters of all Dalimbari society from Stavka downwards. The Rugby Zone of Saint Andreisburg connects all four stadiums with the centre of the city, with Blue Square as its focal point. The Rugby Zone encompasses a population of 700,000 and is 66 km2

We respectfully ask that all foreign guests to the Free State remember that they are under the sovereignty, traditions, and rules of Dalimbar while in our homeland. Being outside of the Rugby Zones will result in immediate detention.

  22. On Sporting in the Free State

An excerpt from a speech made by Col. Ivan Salikin, Head of Sports Department

Since the discovery and founding of Saint Andreisburg, the Dalimbari have been a sports-oriented folk. Our greatest pastime has been rugby, which developed from martial games played by our ancestors. Through the ages of exploration and discovery of the non-Dalimbari world, we have exported our favourite game to the rest of the world, and it has thrived. We will bring the cup home soon. And burn Zoran to the ground.

Which brings us to the nature of football. This has been a sport traditionally regarded as a peasant game played by eastern folk by the time that Dalimbar moved into those zones. We have traditionally suspected that the game originated in the middle-east of the barbaric world, perhaps in Saint Mark or another of the major barbarian powers of the day. Regardless, as we have pushed east, the more the local populace has been keen on this game.

The Free State has often viewed the sport with mixed feelings. With the progression of the squad, the new Boys in Blue, who represent many of the... eastern... members of our society, we Dalimbari are taking an interest in this game, new to many of our kind.

With the progression of the Dalimbari national squad to the Round of 16, Stavka has authorized the Sports Department to create a system of football akin to the Rugby Union system. Major Dalimbari cities will receive opportunities to create new teams under this new football union, with anticipated start in one year.

The entire Free State will be watching our team with hope and desire for victory. Slay the Barbarians!
