  1. That would be a lovely scenario to be in but I fear it is unachievable. As with anything, it is good to keep an ideal in mind (the way we think something should be) but, ultimately, we must be realists when it comes to making decisions about what we are doing and how we are going to solve problems that affect the real world. Real problems need real solutions. To play Devil's Advocate, why should animals be treated with respect? Animals are not sentient, they lack higher brain function and, most importantly, the philosophy of mind, meaning they cannot distinguish their own self from that of any other. What makes them [pets] more deserving of respect than a plant, the fish we eat or the cattle we raise for slaughter? I ask whether you would also offer the same rights for farm animals, all of which routinely undergo the same experiences of abandoned pets (if not worse experiences)?
  2. #shotsfired <-- Zao As to euthanising animals, I would imagine the charity takes everything into account before making such a decision, how much space they have at the inn; what it would cost to keep the animal; the chances that the animal will be adopted in a reasonable time etc. If after all of these thought processes have been gone through it is decided that the space taken up by one animal with little chance of being adopted in the near future would be better served by another animal with more chance of being adopted, I see no problem with the animal being euthanised.
  3. Elegarth's welcome thread has turned into a general Elegarth Q&A/conversation thread, the threadjack lives on.
  4. "The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it." Oscar Wilde said it, PD, must be time to come back.
  5. I would rather they just integrate Missy into the plot properly rather than just leaving her as some useless, afterthought character. The Doctor is stunning - that is all I have to say.
  6. I've missed this thread. Can't say I have a favourite constellation, I try to look for the Plough whenever I look up at night purely for the fact that it's one of the only ones that I recognise.
  7. Welcome to TWP! As for advice, stay away from the yellow snow.
  8. Apologies, that was a lot harsher than what was required.
  9. This implies that Osiris has ever had principles instead of just being a disaster for the past year. I am agreed with BBD, Cormac can fight his war against defender inactivity by himself. Edit: I'll add that this is the first misstep that you have made, Cormac, your strategy up until this point has been perfect.
  10. This is good planning, give your chocolate reserves to BBD to create distrust between Dark and BBD. Eventually, this could lead to the First Great Chocolatey Wars leaving the path clear for you to become the leading power in the region. I like the way you think.
  11. Congratulations to both Huangshi and Fearless!
  12. Such a pity. Who knew Cormac's attempts to revitalise Defending would take such a turn? Edit: Spelling will be the death of me.
  13. Today, Thursday 28th August 2014 CE at Major Update, the delegate elect and guardian Darkesia ascended to the throne of the West Pacific, rumour has it that the chocolate-smiths have already been summoned to the temple of the Cardinal Guardians to craft a suitable residence for the new Delegate. The Chocolate palace on TWP Hill As ever, we thank Guardian Westwind for his service as Interim Delegate and for his continued service as Guardian of the West Pacific. Hail Darkesia, may her reign be chocolatey and long! May adspammers and general ne'er-do-wells feel the cocoa underside of her banhammer!
  14. Thank you for the update Joe (I never know whether to call you Joe/Bobs/Mr Bobs etc. ). I look forward to seeing the FRA retake its place at the heart of the NS community.
  15. I very much liked the darker Doctor. I wasn't too keen on the episode itself, but once you realise that the whole episode was nothing more than an introduction for the new Doctor, it becomes palatable. As to the 'mysterious woman', I think it's become a bit old hat now. I'll be interested, of course, in knowing who she is, but I wish that Moffat could find another plot device.
