  1. NEWS: Day 6 Post-Match Interview - Mygrdiyah’s Yagyu Speaks After Loss Against Dalimbar By Naoya Nordheim | MNN Sports Correspondent | 5 July 1424 (26 minutes ago) In a much-anticipated moment from this year's World Cup in Overthinkers, the upstart Mygrdiyan national team was scheduled to face the reigning champions from Dalimbar earlier today. After four days of grueling competition and only one day of rest, many fans wondered how things would shake out as rugby giants clashed with a very young and motivated side from Mygrdiyah. While things didn't quite go the way that Coach Taue and his players had hoped, the team's captain says that a defeat at this point in the tournament is part of the process. Moments ago, our crew had the privilege of speaking to Haruo Yagyu in the dressing room after Mygrdiyah suffered a 21-12 defeat at the hands of Dalimbar. Here's what he had to say: Transcript: Yagyu: "Make no mistake. The tournament isn't over for us." "A loss is a loss. There are no excuses for our lackluster performance, but we still have a good chance to qualify past the group stage and we're not going to let that chance get away from us so easily. Honestly, I feel like we control our own destiny now, you know? I feel like it's up to us as a team to not panic and move past this." "We knew we'd have to play them at some point. Dalimbar, that is. Credit to them. They're a great squad full of talented players." Beads of sweat continue to drip down from the captain's hair and face as he speaks. Nordheim: "I'm sure it hasn't been easy for you guys. Do you think that the day of rest that you received played a part in your defeat tonight?" Yagyu: "No. I wouldn't say that." "We just had an off night and underperformed because of it. That much can happen to any team on any day, so our only choice is to move past it and look forward to our next match." Nordheim: "Would you say that there's anything to be learned from this outing, or do you intend to disregard it entirely as your team looks to move forward?" Yagyu: "Subconsciously, for sure. But it's not like it's the elephant in the room or anything. We were all out there. Each of us knows what happened, and now it's up to us to take what we can from that experience and use it as another reason for us to play better against Giovanniland." "Part of representing our country on a stage like this is taking responsibility, for both the good and the bad. I know that I'll be pushing harder at practice tomorrow and I'm sure that my teammates will hold themselves accountable for tonight's loss too." "We're a team. We win together and we lose together. But we won't quit after we've worked so hard to get here. I hope that even our biggest critics can respect that about us." The final match of the group stage for this year's rugby World Cup will be broadcast live on 7 July. Tune in on the MNN Sports channel. 2. WATCH: Day 6 Pre-Match Press Conference with Mr. Taue and Mr. Kisugi By Hanako Ichinose | Public Relations Representative | 3 July 1424 (1 hour ago) Transcript: Ichinose: "Hello, everyone! Welcome to today’s pre-match press conference. My name is Hanako Ichinose, and I’m glad to be here today as part of the Mygrdiyan national team’s staff. In just a moment, I’ll be joined by both Mr. Kisugi and Mr. Taue. Members of the media -- our esteemed guests -- will have an opportunity to ask any questions that they might have for either the manager of the team or the team's coach." "With introductions out of the way, let's get right down to it!" Team Manager Tetsuya Kisugi and Coach Naofumi Taue emerge from the corner of the room and begin making their way to their seats behind the table on stage. Ichinose: "As many of you know, Mygrdiyah stands as the only undefeated team left in this year's competition. It's an exciting time for all of us, especially the players. Please give them your utmost consideration. Thank you!" The crowd of media personnel applauds before soon falling silent once again. Kisugi: "Hello! Is this on?", the man asks while tapping at the microphone in his hand and looking away towards a sound technician. "Ah, excellent. It's great to be here, and I'm glad to see so many faces in attendance as you all join us here to support the great sport of rugby and to reflect on the Mygrdiyan national team's progress thus far." "Sitting to my left is Mr. Taue; a man who's been working extremely hard for our players in preparation for the steep competition that we face from within our draw group. Please give him your best!" The crowd applauds once again before returning to anticipatory silence. Taue: "Good day, all. My name is Naofumi Taue. Thank you for your praise and introduction, Mr. Kisugi." "Now, I'm sure that some of you might have questions for me. One at a time, please. We should have time to get to everyone." A man in the second row raises his hand and a sound technician hurries over to hand him a microphone. Shimizu: "Wataru Shimizu, editor of Rugby Revolution magazine." "There’s been a lot of positivity surrounding this team as of late. After three straight wins and a day of rest, some might say that Mygrdiyah is the team to beat in group D of this year’s World Cup. How do you respond to those comments?" Taue: "Well," the man pauses. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves." "It's a lot of little things that come together in order for us to play a good game. If we can play a good game and remain competitive then more wins might follow. But our players know that I expect nothing less than their absolute best and they're always willing to give me at least that." "Team to beat? I'm not sure. Ask me again in a few days, if you would. But, right now, it's about what happens tonight when we go up against a very strong side from Naliba. With that in mind, my only expectation is we remain focused and concentrate on tonight's performance." The magazine editor sits down after Coach Taue is finished speaking and the microphone quickly shifts over to a woman sitting in the third row across the aisle from him. Nagisa: "Good day, sirs. Reika Nagisa reporting on behalf of MNN Sports." "You’ve got two of your toughest matchups still to come later on in this year’s tournament and the players won’t be getting another rest day before then. How prepared would you say that your squad is to take on the rugby giants of Dalimbar and Giovanniland?" Taue: "Rest days are important", the man said plainly. "Both for our players and for me." "For them, it's a chance to take a break from their training and allow their bodies to heal from a more grueling schedule. For me, it's an opportunity to step back and take a look at how things are shaking out in other groups. While I can't say that I've had much time to see either of those two squads in action, I was able to watch a good bit of yesterday's match between Ryxtylopia and Peourouin." "I saw some great things in that game, and it helped give me insight into how other teams are faring past the halfway point. As far as our own group with Dalimbar and Giovanniland go, I'd say that we'll need to approach both of those matchups accordingly and with care. They seem to be on the up and up as of late, as they've both picked up wins against Ostronia and Min-Su, respectively." "If we want to win those games, we can't afford to get cocky and careless. Even so, I like our chances as much as anyone else's. We'll come to play no matter the opponent." The woman thanks Mr. Taue for answering her question before sitting down and giving away the microphone. Oliverde: "Numerio Oliverde of LudoGiovanniterra here." "A little over a week ago, your team’s captain said that he and his teammates were focused on playing their game above all else and that they weren’t going to let the excitement of the moment distract from their training. From where you sit, would you say that's how things have been handled thus far?" Mr. Taue begins to nod slowly. Taue: "Yes. I can honestly say that I think Mr. Yagyu has done a great job in his current role as our team captain." "Being a leader goes beyond being the face that fans associate with an entire squad. It's about what you do for your teammates, the respect that you command in the dressing room, and being deserving of your opponents' respect as well. When players come together and put their talents towards the success of the group, well, amazing things can be achieved." "We've been getting results on the pitch, and we've even managed to surprise a few people with our play. Mr. Yagyu and his teammates know not to lean into all of that too heavily, as I've told them not to. But it certainly doesn't hurt to have the support of those who might've previously not even considered us as a team worth following. After all, those extra cheers are great for player morale." The reporter from LudoGiovanniterra scribbles some notes on a pad of paper before thanking Mr. Taue and returning to his seat. Ignatiyev: "Hi. Lazar Ignatiyev from Free State Television (FSTV). This question is for Mr. Kisugi." Mr. Kisugi perks up, almost as if he's been waiting for a question to be directed towards him. Ignatiyev: "You may not know this, but Dalimbari bookies have taken note of your team's quick rise. The sports betting sites in the Free State have been excited about it, actually. So, with that in mind, how do you feel about your team's odds in future matchups?" Taue: "Odds?", he asks while chuckling. "Well, I'm not at all a betting man myself. Gambling is actually illegal in my country, so I wouldn't know much about that. But if you're asking about how I think we'll fare, well then, I'd say it's up to the players themselves to rise to the occasion and it's up to Mr. Taue to put together a gameplan that enables them to do so." "Beyond that, everything is up to idle speculation. You would know about that, I'd imagine. So let's just see where the next few days take us." Ichinose: "As a general reminder, this question will be the last question for today's conference. Once again, thank you everyone!" Frenkel: "Hey there! Steffen Frenkel from Zhiznovsk." "I wanted to ask you, Mr. Kisugi, about how the venues of each game factor into your team's plans. Specifically, I noticed that Mygrdiyah is designated as the home team in today's match against Naliba and will be wearing their home kits as a result. But, of course, everyone is away while we're all here in Overthinkers. Well, except for Overthinkers themselves that is...", he trails off. "Anyhow, whether it's fifty thousand fans screaming in a foreign language or tens of thousands of faithful back home in Mygrdiyah supporting you, how does your squad manage to tune out the noise on a consistent basis and go about business as usual even when the pressure to stay atop group D is on?" Kisugi: "That's a good question. Thank you for asking." "As far as we're concerned, what it all boils down to is a love of the game. The people will like who they like, and they'll naturally want to chant and cheer for them. We can't control the noise that's coming in, but, of course, isn't that part of the beauty in being a fan?" "At the end of the day, we're all professionals here. Not only are we incredibly proud to be representing our country on the world stage, but we also accept the responsibility that comes with that when doing so. Sometimes we'll go into hostile territory, so to speak. When the crowd isn't on our side, it doesn't make us love the game any less. Really, that's when it comes time for our staff and our passionate fanbase to make the players feel at ease and at home. That way, even if we are away -- rather on paper or on a map -- we can carry those feelings with us in the face of new challenges."
  3. NEWS: Local Pub Offers Free Food After Each National Team Victory By Hokomori City Press Staff | 25 June 1424 (2 hours ago) In local news, a small, family-owned eatery and pub in Hokomori has announced today that they'll be offering free food to those who visit their restaurant the day after each of the Mygrdiyan national rugby team's victories in the fifth annual World Cup. This year's event, which is being hosted in Overthinkers, is also the first time that Mygrdiyah has made an appearance on the world stage to participate in organized rugby competition. As part of this sudden yet rather generous promotional event, the owner of the establishment, Mr. Makoto Miyahara, was quoted as saying, "Many of the players on the Mygrdiyan national team have been quite good to us in the past. We'd like to thank them for their patronage by giving back to our community and encouraging our dear customers to support them whilst they're away on their trip to Overthinkers." Additionally, the restaurant's staff explained that "There's no need for any apps or rewards program sign-ups. You don't have to give us your email address or even your name. Just come visit us wearing the shirt of your favorite player on our national team and we'll make sure to take care of you. It's the least we can do, after all." Suffice it to say, business is expected to boom within the coming week for Mr. Miyahara. Behind the scenes, the family hopes that their gesture of charity will encourage more people to support the Mygrdiyan national team in this year's competition and in the future, as well as support the growth of rugby as a sport within the kingdom. Doors open at 11AM each day and closing time isn't until 1AM, the restaurant's official website proudly proclaims. Despite being small and quaint, Mr. Miyahara's restaurant is nonetheless a popular destination for many of Mygrdiyah's native amateurs, professionals, and semi-professional rugby players, who enjoy dining there. In the past, players have even said that the food Mr. Miyahara and his family serves helps them to feel rejuvenated and ready to take on their team's next challenges. Without the local Mygrd cuisine to comfort them, one wonders how the national team's players are handling the pressure that comes with playing away from home. Although, if their debut match against Min-Su is any indication, the team's faithful supporters are reassured in saying that everything will be fine going forward. Mygrdiyah's next matchup in the Rugby World Cup V will be on 25 June against Ostronia. Please tune in to SPOT for live coverage of the match!
  4. WATCH: Mygrdiyan National Captain Haruo Yagyu Speaks On World Cup Debut By Kelsey Chad | SPOT Matchday Correspondent | 23 June 1424 (4 hours ago) Transcript: Chad: "Good day, everyone! My name is Kelsey Chad, and I'd like to begin our broadcast by thanking all of the passionate fans from around the world for tuning in to SPOT's coverage of the fifth annual Rugby World Cup live from Overthinkers." "In just a few hours' time, we'll be seeing the debut of the Mygrdiyan national team on the world stage. As the athletes prepare to take the pitch later on this evening, I'm fortunate enough to have the opportunity to speak with the fresh-faced team captain from Mygrdiyah and get his insight as to what they'll be looking to showcase once the lights go on and the world is watching." "Without further ado, I'm pleased to introduce my guest at this time: Captain Haruo Yagyu from Mygrdiyah. Thank you for taking the time out of your rather busy schedule to join us, Mr. Yagyu!" Yagyu: "You're very welcome, Miss Chad. The pleasure is all mine." Chad: "Now that introductions are out of the way, I wanted to get your thoughts on a few things." Yagyu: "Ah yes," he says, nodding his head slowly. Chad: "It's you and your countrymen and women's first time here in Overthinkers. What do you think of it so far?" Yagyu: "It's a nice place," he responds. "That's what we were told to expect by Mr. Kisugi, after all." "The people here seem welcoming and are committed to taking care of us during our stay. While we certainly don't want to impose, we would like to thank everyone for the hospitality that they've shown us so far." Chad: "I'm glad to hear that. I know that the event officials here have put a lot of thought and care into making sure that everyone, both sportsman and spectator alike, are comfortable while they visit us here." "It must be quite nerve-wracking, coming to a new place, traveling each day, and playing in front of new fans in new stadiums. I must ask: How are you and your team preparing for your debut match against Min-Su? Are you handling the adjustments well?" Yagyu: "Yes, I'd like to think that we are handling the changes well." "It's a very exciting experience for each of us, but it's also something that we know can't get in the way of our training. It may sound cliche, but we really do need to stay focused and play our game above all else. We have a great opportunity to take in our surroundings and appreciate these moments for what they are, but we're careful not to let said moments become bigger than ourselves or our team." "Of course, we respect our opponents at every turn. Min-Su is a veteran side with history and experience here at the World Cup. There's a part of us that wants to go out there and show the fans in attendance what rugby in Mygrdiyah is all about. We play with poise and passion. I think that the key to it all is for us to stick to what we know that we can do. The rest will come naturally, as they say." Chad: "A very thoughtful and candid answer. Thank you." "You mentioned showing those in attendance what your nation's brand of rugby is like, but what about your native supporters back home? Has the support from them been all that you'd hoped it would be?" Yagyu: "Yes, that and more. Everyone is just as excited as we are and we're grateful to have the chance to share that excitement with them." "Mr. Taue tells us that even the Prime Minister has been in contact and that he said he'll be cheering us on for every match. It's a great feeling to know that we have both his support and the support of our fans back home. It's a great morale booster. Everyone is so passionate, and it shows us that we're not alone in this." Chad: "The fanfare that surrounds the World Cup brings together people from all walks of life. I'm glad that you and your teammates aren't feeling too overwhelmed by all of the attention, especially from the media," she chuckles. "On another note, how are you guys feeling about your group draw? You're in group D, which is the same group that features the host nation of a past World Cup and a nation that had previously lodged a bid to host this year's World Cup. Does that intimidate you at all?" Yagyu: "No, I wouldn't say that it intimidates me or any of us really." "Like I said, we respect our opponents no matter their accolades. It's a good habit to get into, I think. When you approach every match with the same attitude regardless of the teams that you're playing, it's a lot easier to keep a cool head and not allow the pressure of everything to get to you." "Giovanniland and Dalimbar are certainly some of the heavy hitters, you could say. Nonetheless, my teammates and I are looking forward to the challenges that await us. At the end of the day, we're playing a game that we love. We can't possible bring ourselves to feel bad about that." Chad: "Oh, I see. Well then, I'm sure you'll take care to put together a gameplan and start things off on strong footing before the time comes for those matchups." "It's been great to talk with you. But, before you go, I do have one more question to ask." Yagyu: "Yes, of course. Go on...," he smiles. Chad: "Everyone wants to know: What does this year's World Cup mean to you and your teammates? It means something special to everyone, of course, but I imagine that it's especially important for your first time competing. How is this showing significant?" Yagyu: "Hmm...," he pauses. "It's hard to say." "I think that we want to make a good first impression out there, for sure. In order to do that, we have to do what got us here in the first place. It's a special feeling whenever you experience something new, but it's an even better feeling to be able to be confident in yourself. We want to be a team that everyone in Mygrdiyah can be proud to send again next year! I hope that they will continue to support us as we follow our dreams and play this great game."
