Haha, I said absolutely nothing. Anyways, we've just been told that the Santo-Dominian delegation has arrived! Due to the special nature of this Esferiad, the athletes participating in Quoriv's events have arrived there, while the athletes doing Kharventin's events have arrived here. This is very exciting, as Santos-Dominius has historically specialised in aquatics, which means that some of our best, handsomest and most attractive athletes will be here in Kharventin instead of being stuck in Quoriv with Melanie and her pit of hell- I mean, just kidding! I didn't mean that, haha. You heard nothing!"

In a moment, you should see images of both on your very own television screen. It must be noted that TeamSD's Esferiad logo looks very similar to its T20 Cricket logo, which indirectly adds to speculation that SDNEC is cooperating with the Santo-Dominian Government to do a branding overhaul for all of TeamSD. The TeamSD Esferiad logo has also been praised as 'innovative' by figures such as President Paul Goldberg, who has also stated that he will be watching coverage of the Esferiad. This is the channel for live and direct coverage of the II Summer Esferiad! I'm Approctoflecticus Blubberman, and we're getting closer and closer to the start of the Esferiad. His Serene Highness, Marcarius, Prince of the Holy Principality of Saint Mark, seemed anything but the confident ruler of an ancient nation as he was usually portrayed in the press. Instead, he was pacing around his elegant bedroom, his open face revealing a mixture of worry and excitement. This wasn't his first time participating in international competition, but the last time he hadn't done so well. His national team did, however, and that more than made up for his personal failures, but he hoped he could improve on last year's performance. All members of the Elector Houses of Saint Mark were familiar with the gentlemanly pusuits of shooting, riding, and fencing, but he excelled at these ... at least in Saint Mark. He hoped this past year of training would also allow him to excell in the world arena.
Edward Clarkson, the unflappable Valet to the Prince, was calmly and efficiently packing His Highness' gear. He observed the prince's unease and sought to relieve it by turning his attention to the team he loved.
"Your Highness must be quite proud. Saint Mark has a splendid team this year. There are several areas in which we will be very difficult to best."
"Right so, Clarkson!" beamed the prince. "I am indeed proud of them! We should really present a challenge to the others this year! While I am quite pleased with what we accomplished last year, I think we will do even better this year."

Dear Leaders and Citizens of Esferos,
The Leaders of Giovanniland and Blue Bubble would like to welcome you to the II Summer Esferiad, hosted within Quoriv & Kharventhin as well as other cities across our glorious nations. 
The II Summer Esferiad has given our nations an opportunity. An opportunity to highlight what Lavender Island holds. An opportunity to mark our relations as positive worldwide for the first time in history. An opportunity to show our citizens that we are strong together. During our bid, we realised what we wanted these games to mean to us - Friendship born from Rivalry,  Individuality born from Belief, Trust born from Understanding. Our teamwork has risen from ashes of two nations who have a long history, and we are hoping to become fruitful from this labour.
We would also like to thank the Esferiad committee for accepting our bid, and we hope that these games will inspire you, readers, to continue the ideals we have come to realise are our greatest strengths and of which we have chosen to highlight in our time of hosting this worldwide event. Tupmonias runs through an agrarian economy, which means it’s rural rather than urban-based. It is centered upon the production, consumption, trade, and sale of agricultural commodities, including plants and livestock.

Geography:
Tupmonia is located in northern Andolia. The kingdom borders Fhaengshia to the northeast, Greenman Occupied Territory to its west, and Nagaraningrad to its southeast. The land directly south and north of Tupmonia remains unclaimed. Tupmonia total area is 123,815 km2, and it’s located between latitudes 22° and 30° South, and longitudes 0° and 8° West. Tupmonia uses the International Atomic Time (IAT+0) as the national time zone.
 
Tupmonias topography mostly consists of rich grasslands, shrublands, and some rivers. Most notably the Laronan Plains, the Golban Forest, the Tupan Hills, and the Hammel Rivers.

Tupmonia has a tropical and subtropical climate except for a drier area in the west. The north and west have an average temperature of 87°F (30°C) during the day and a cooler 76°F (24°C) at night. The north and west also have low humidity, making the air much drier. In the south and east, the weather is slightly cooler but much more humid. During the day the temperature averages 79°F (26°C), whereas at night the temperature averages 71°F (21°C).
 
Some of Tupmonia’s wildlife includes bison, elk, coyotes, hawks, and hundreds of other species of animals and plants.

Government:
Tupmonia is run through an Absolute monarchy system. The Royal House of Tyke has ruled Tupmonia for just over 1,200 years. The current ruler is King Joseph VII, and his queen is Lyanna Reed. He has ruled Tupmonia since 1403. 
 
The Great Houses- Tupmonia is split into 3 different provinces, each governed by a different great house. The South is governed by House Fenn. The current warden of The South is Rory Fenn II. He has governed The South since 1407. The West is governed by House Cobb. The current warden of The West is William Cobb. He has governed The West since 1377. Finally, The East is controlled by the royal house of Tyke. Although House Tyke rules all three provinces, their prime focus is pointed to the East.
 
The Council- Each great house has its own council of 5 people. The types of people can range anywhere from a random civilian to a lord. The council of each great house is chosen by the ruler of each great house. There are 3 requirements to qualify for a council spot: Over the age of 25, Tupmonian citizenship for at least 20 years, and residency in your province for at least 10 years. 
The Council serves as a cabinet of advisors to their warden/king on major issues across their lands. In 1322 a law was passed that any king/warden that came into power under the age of 20 must follow the majority vote of their council whether or not they agree with the ruling, thus putting younger and less experienced kings/wardens in check. 
 
Tupmonian Legislature-
The Tupmonian Legislature is made up of 52 legislators. 2 from each of the 26 counties in Tupmonia. They are voted in by the people every 3 years (one term). Every legislator can serve a max 3 terms. The qualifications for a spot on the legislature include: Over the age of 25, Tupmonian citizenship for at least 15 years, and residency in your county for at least 7 years. Although the legislature has some power, most of their power is for appearance to make it seem like the people have more representation, when in reality most of the power is held by the king and wardens.

Hello and welcome to the signup/OOC thread for the Second Summer Esferiad!! (yes we decided to rename it!) UA and Fujai will each be scorinating half of the days. An RP thread will be posted nearer to the beginning of the games with more information on the IC host cities, Quoriv and Kharventhin of Giovanniland and Blue Bubble.

These Games are open only to nations on the RP Map. If you are not on the map and would like to participate, follow the instructions here and you may sign up once your map request has been fully processed.

Preliminary Schedule
Team sports (handball, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, football, field hockey, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, water polo) begin with group stages followed by a knockout tournament. Badminton Singles and Doubles, Boxing Lightweight and Heavyweight, Tennis Singles and Doubles, Fencing Épée, Foil, and Sabre Individual, Judo, Karate Kumite and Kata, Taekwondo, and Wrestling consist of knockout tournaments taking place over two days.
Group and tournament schedules are subject to change depending on how many signups we have.
The Gymnastics events are handled via one signup entry—all gymnastics athletes participate in the same 6 events, with medals for each event as well as Individual All-Around and Team-All Around.
The Swimming, Track, and Field Individual All-Around events will only take place if there are enough entries. The Team All-Around event for those sports will take place regardless of the number of entries.
Signing Up
You may submit a maximum of 150 entries spread over the events. To submit your signup, you may either use the provided spreadsheet exclusively, or download the it for use in the text or spreadsheet editor of your choice and post your signup in this thread.
Please use the format shown in the instructions below exactly when submitting your signup, as it makes our jobs a lot easier. You may be asked to fix formatting errors before your signup is accepted.
Rules, Guidelines, and Notes
Entry Limit You are limited to 150 total entries You do not have to enter every event, nor do you have to use all 150 entries—in fact, we recommend you tailor how many entries and what events you enter to what would make sense for your nation You may also enter athletes into multiple events (e.g. 200 m Freestyle, 1500 m Freestyle, and 200 m Backstroke), but this still counts as multiple entries toward the 150 entry limit The signup sheet automatically tracks your number of entries (specifically it counts the number of non-empty cells in the skill column) Skill Modifiers New to these games! Skill modifiers must be whole numbers (0, 1 , 2, etc) from 0 to 100. You may choose not to assign skill modifiers to your athletes—in this case, they will all be assigned a skill of 50. Skill Average The average skill of all your entries may not exceed 50, but it can be lower! The signup sheet automatically tracks your skill average Min-Max Avoidance Bonus (MMAB) A bonus based on the standard deviation of your entries' skill will be used, weighted at 20% of the total RP bonus for any given day. You can exceed the standard deviations listed, but your MMAB will lessen the further you go outside the limits and your delegation may suffer because of it. 1-10 entries: Full MMAB for any standard deviation 11-35 entries: Full MMAB for standard deviation of 35 or less 36-75 entries: Full MMAB for standard deviation of 30 or less 76+ entries: Full MMAB for standard deviation of 25 or less NOTE: We aren't able to easily test how well this will work, so please bear with us The signup sheet automatically tracks your standard deviation Signup Changes Changes to signups will be accepted until signups close, but they must be made as a new reply to this thread—you don't have to repost your entire signup. Create a duplicate of the Master Signup sheet (right click→"duplicate") and retitle the sheet with the name of your nation/delegation. Skip this step if you are downloading the spreadsheet to create your signup elsewhere. Enter your nation's trigram in the trigram space (this should be 3 letters and can be found on the main RP Spreadsheet). Do Not edit anything else in the header. Enter your athletes' names in the left hand column under the event they will be participating in. Please use the correct formatting as shown in the example in Step 5. The number next to the event name refers to the maximum number entries you are allowed to submit for that event—it also gives direction for what kind of entry to submit. Enter a Skill Modifier for your athlete/team. This is a number between 0 and 100, with 0 representing an athlete just making the qualification standard (i.e. still decent compared to the average person), and 100 representing the world's best. Follow the following format exactly, as it makes our jobs much easier. You may be asked to fix formatting errors before your signup is accepted. For events with only a number next to the event name — e.g. (2) — it is an individual event and you must give the name of each participating individual on a separate line (you may enter fewer than the maximum number). For team events with a specific team size indicated — e.g. (1 team of 2) — you must give the name of each team member on a single line, separated by slashes with no space between the slash and the names. For team events that say only (1 team), use the name of your nation/delegation rather than the names of any team members. You may post team rosters for these events in the RP thread once it is created closer to the start of the Games. One of the most mysterious and historic cities in Santos-Dominius, Galioveile sits on a partially inaccessible tidal island in the Canton of Yatasailie-Comte (Santosian for "Yatasail County"), far in the south of the island of Santos. Surrounded nearly entirely by sea, the only way to access Galioveile is to wait for the narrow sand passage connecting it to the Santosian mainland to appear at low tides. At high tides, the city is completely inaccessible by foot or by vehicle; however, the city has recently begun debating the establishment of a ferry service.
It should be noted that Galioveile doesn't just include the famous tidal island section that most people are aware of - a majority of the population actually live on the mainland side of the city, which is far more connected and accessible than its original core on the tidal island. This is why despite appearing to be very small in pictures, Galioveile actually narrowly has more people than the town of Berchstein in Canton Zentrum-Dominien.
The most famous landmark of Galioveile is undeniably the Castle of Rebirth. Sitting at the very top of the tidal island, the castle is famously known as where nobles in ancient times conducted their rites of passage in adulthood. To this day, the castle's interior walls and gardens are still filled with paintings, carvings and sculptures depicting the trials that young nobility have to go through. Nowadays, despite no longer being a site where adulthood rites are conducted, the Castle of Rebirth remains a tourist attraction, as it is rumoured in fairytales that hidden in its spire is a beautiful flower that will give those who find it everlasting adolescence.
ETYMOLOGY
From Galium odoratum(sweet woodruff), éveil(Santosian for "awakening") and possibly veil.
HISTORY
Galioveile was first discovered to be a naturally defensible location by the Duke of Neuenstadt in 132 AF. However, as the Duke believed that it was a double-edged sword (defenders may also find it hard to escape), he ultimately did not establish a settlement in the area. As the years passed, rising sea levels caused Galioveile's tidal island to become more and more inaccessible, as the sand passage connecting it to the mainland slowly eroded. It was only in 196 AF that mysterious tribal settlers from faraway unknown lands(now believed to be northwestern Andolia) set up shop and founded a village on the site. Unfortunately, the settlers were constantly beset by bad luck - the village elders, who were more experienced and adept at leadership and survival skills, often died in an untimely manner of plagues and diseases. This led to the rest of the village placing a great deal of importance on training its younger members to be able to take over the reins as soon as possible and as best as possible. The first rites of adulthood were conducted at the top of the hill on the tidal island, and later generations would build the Castle of Rebirth to commemorate and honour this tradition.
Galioveile gradually became more and more well known over the centuries, as countless nobles and rich families sent their adolescent heirs and heiresses to train at the Castle of Rebirth, picking up combat skills and learning how to survive and lead. Even the Duke of Neuenstadt - now a far descendant of the original Duke - sent his young heir to train at the castle. According to ancient tales, the heir ended up losing his life while training in the spire, which was struck by lightning. To mourn the death of his son, the Duke placed a flower granting everlasting youth to one who finds it - and the legend has charmed the city's residents ever since. To this day, many tourists will pay a visit to the Castle to search for the flower, but no one has managed to find it. It is said that the flower is actually a bush of sweet woodruff - Galium odoratum - which is where part of the city's current name comes from. Nowadays, Galioveile's culture and customs differ from most of the country - and scientists and historians have consistently attempted to figure out why.

"The National Basketball League was established after the increase in basketball athletes, and also for the National Sports Development program so that we can produce world -class basketball athletes. This will also be the country's second largest sports entertainment after football."said ABA president in his speech.
In addition, there is also the Orangutan Cup as a national basketball trophy tournament.

Is there much to do in the town of Berchstein? Ask any local resident and they will unfailingly say "no". Apart from the usual grocery stores, bakeries, post office, town hall and residents, Berchstein has little to offer for the adventurous traveler. But this seaside town's residents like it that way - according to a recent demographics survey, over 80% of elderly Santo-Dominians lived in or planned to move to Berchstein.
The reason for this is precisely because Berchstein doesn't have much going on. This quaint and quiet village is the perfect settling place for those who have already lived through their most adventurous, exciting and passionate years. Its pastel-coloured, mid-sized homes are excellent for elderly couples and families who wish to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of big cities like Arkurter and Sasslen, as well as the politics of Friberne. In almost anywhere else, being a town with nothing much going on is nearly always a negative. But in Berchstein, it's the defining characteristic that makes it attractive.
ETYMOLOGY
From berch(old Common for "family who lived close to a birch tree") and stein(old Dominish for "stone, rock").
HISTORY
Berchstein was founded by Emilia, Dowager Countess of Rederburg long ago. After her husband died and her son took over as Count of the city, Dowager Countess Emilia wanted a refuge where she could take a rest and stop having to deal with the complicated matters that come with being a noblewoman. She left Canton Sasslen-Vorpalain and sailed around the Dominian archipelago in search of a perfect location, and Berchstein was the place that she chose. With the money she got from her late husband, the Dowager Countess built and maintained a large mansion estate, where she lived carefree and surrounded by servants, which she treated kindly.
Right before the Dowager Countess died, she bequeathed ownership of the estate - and the town by extension - to her servants and their families, as a final act of boundless generosity. Since then, the descendants of those servants have lived in Berchstein for generations, carefully keeping the town intact and treating newcomers kindly as a way to pay tribute to the Dowager Countess. Nowadays, the town is what Emilia Redenburg would've wanted it to become - a quiet refuge for all who want to slow down and catch their breath.

Arkurter is Santos-Dominius' 2nd-largest city overall, and its most futuristic. Sitting on an island in Canton Nordrhuin-Theronigen, Arkurter has long been the financial hub of southern Santos-Dominius while sustaining a friendly rivalry with Friberne for the status of overall financial centre of the country. With cerulean and pearl white office buildings in its heart, Arkurter is home to a lot of regional banks and major corporations.
Arkurter has also acquired a reputation for innovation in recent years. Technology and communications start-ups often find the bustling southern city a better and more bustling choice than the quiet, traditional and leafy Friberne. Although this has caused some crude Friberneses to accuse the city of abandoning its past, Arkurters have always coolly retorted that Friberne just can't catch up to their hometown.

HISTORY
Arkurter was first populated by emigrating people from the northern shores of the continent of Andolia. Founded on the coast with prime access to the Yatasail and Darkesian Seas, medieval Arkurter flourished as a trading port. As its founding citizens traversed the Yatasail specifically to arrive at the city, Arkurters also mastered the skill of seafaring earlier and better than other major towns in Santos-Dominius. Arkurter became a booming city where citizens hailing from Santos and northern Dominius could purchase and sell goods and products of all kinds in exchanges with Andolian merchants from near and far.
Today, Arkurter is still a trading port, but not literally so: the city has sustained its own branch of the Friberne Stock Exchange. Although this is jokingly viewed as an insult by some proud Arkurters, it cannot be denied that the stock trading activity has brought much wealth and prosperity to the city, assuring its residents that development will not stop. No matter where one goes, Arkurter always seems to have the most fascinating and modern technologies, buildings, roads, cars, and so on. Perhaps this is why incumbent Mayor Sarah Einhart declared in her first victory speech that Arkurter was on "the frontline of time".
