  2. SPORTRAVEL Around Giovanniland through Football Stadiums: 2nd World Cup Special II Posted 17/11/1422 We're back at SporTravel with another post about the 2nd World Cup of Football tournament! While the Giovannilandians prepare to face off the Landslag from Fujai, after beating the teams of Alchera and Kurabis and most recently losing to Cambria, we will present two more iconic stadiums. Kampo Vetto Urydano, Uryde, Lavanda Prima Capacity: 45,300 People think of the Stadio Abreo-Florino when the question of a football stadium in the northern city of Uryde is given. I mean, that's fair considering its highlight during the II Summer Esferiad last year and its prominence in the city center, but it's actually not the first stadium in this city of five hundred inhabitants! The title goes to the Uryde Old Field, one of the first football fields in the entirety of Giovanniland, founded in the early 13th century. Back then, Uryde had less than half its current population, as the city was starting to attract people from rural areas amid industrialization, and the football's capacity of around 10,000 seats was hailed as a big project back then. Nowadays, the stadium has been expanded four-fold as it takes the role of a secondary stadium in Uryde, where people can see its historical elements, appreciate the coast, and run away from the big events in the Stadio Abreo-Florino. The home team is called the Leoni Lavanduli, a historical reference from millennia ago to the Lavandulan Empire, which had its capital at Uryde, then called Lavandula. Sadly, the Leoni haven't been as strong as they were in the early years of Giovannilandian football, in which they had back-to-back titles at 1320 and 1321 for example, although new management and stadium modernization may mean a brighter future ahead. To their credit, though, their attacking midfield Hortensia Purparbone was chosen as part of the Starting XI for the national team, while their rivals from Uryde Pedesfera are only represented by two reserve players from the city. Hortensia is a young star from the team and looks to be quite promising in national football! Stadio Montano L'Apertura, L'Apertura, Kordelleria Capacity: 7,500 The Giovandolian Mountains of the southern Andolian Territory are not where you'd usually look for a football stadium, but in the largest city of this sparsely-populated region, travelers are able to find a quite iconic arena with a breathtaking view from the nearby mountains! The city name itself comes from its strategic location at a valley within the mountain chain, and is the main route for people looking to pass through the north into the Violet Valley or south into the Emunian Valley. One of the main aspects it's known for, however, is the altitude of over 2,000 meters that often makes players from the coasts of Porto Violeto or Uryde take some time to adapt. That's all for the second part of this series! Thank you for reading, and we wish you good and safe travels if you are looking to visit these and other football places in Giovanniland. 3. SPORTRAVEL Around Giovanniland through Football Stadiums: 2nd World Cup Special Posted 15/11/1422 Remember our posts about iconic Giovannilandian stadiums this June? Well, welcome to SporTravel once more, because we're now back with a special post themed on the 2nd World Cup of Football! As we've already wrote, football is praised by a majority of Giovannilandians that like sports, and we have a country with many powerful national teams competing in leagues that get millions of fans every year. The peoples of Giovanniland, in Aura and Andolia alike, like attending football stadiums even when they're not actively having games, to appreciate these beautiful buildings and the sport itself. Therefore, this list will hopefully be a several-part series over the next few weeks, but for Part One, we have chosen to showcase one stadium in Aura and one in Andolia. Flore Violeta, Porto Violeto, Primolido Capacity: 65,000 You might ask, haven't we already talked about this stadium before? In which case you'd be right, but we'd be remiss considering the stellar performance of their home team, the Bellatori Violeti (Violet Warriors), in the 1422 national tournament of the first division of Giovannilandian football! In fact, from the four players represented in the national team that are from Porto Violeto, two come from this team. These are the left outside back Manuella Giakobo, part of the starting XI, and reserve right outside Sergio Feragi Faustiano. Talking about the stadium itself, despite getting its renovation very recently, it is already a beautiful tourist attraction of the largest city in Giovanniland, with beautiful color tones mixing purple, violet and lavender. For some historical background, the team was founded in 1370 and recently gained attention as they were bought by Giovannilandian giant Macaw Technologies, who invested in the team not only through the beautiful infrastructure but also by hiring famous players, earning a rightful spot among the most famous Giovannilandian teams. Andoliarena, Andoliavilla, Lido Flavi Capacity: 83,700 An iconic tropical stadium near the coast fits the Arare Andoliavillesi (Andoliavillese Macaws), one of the most famous, if not the most famous and successful football team in the entirety of the Andolian Territory of Giovanniland. The Arare are an old team in Giovannilandian football, having been founded over a century ago in the year of 1306, and are currently the defending team of the national tournament's first division. Although they face a fierce challenge from the Quire Quorivane during the end of the tournament, being currently second with one less point than the first place, their history includes a whopping seven national titles, in the years of 1325, 1349, 1350, 1373, 1391, 1410, and 1421! Furthermore, they are very nicely represented in the national squad with goalkeeper Sergio Pradobeno-Turri and the rising star young striker Matteo Ventomar. Their stadium, the Andoliarena, features a transparent dome that allows for air conditioning during the summer for players to stand the traditional heat, and a large capacity that makes it one of the largest stadiums in Giovanniland! Not only that, but the area that encircles the stadium has several beautiful trees and even a small lake, while on the other side of the photo one can see the houses leading to the center of Andoliavilla, the beaches of the Flavian Coast, and the great Darkesian Sea. That's all for the first part of this series! Thank you for reading, and we wish you good and safe travels if you are looking to visit these and other football places in Giovanniland. If you've got suggestions for the next parts, email us at sportravelgiovanniland@giovamail.com!
  4. Sports Report Newsroom, Giovannia—10:00 AM International Atomic Time, 14th November 1422 Good morning Giovanniland! I am Karlo Nakamura-Edrense, the main host of the Giovannilandian Sports Report and of its special football edition that aims to keep Giovannilandians informed of the latest happenings of the 2nd World Cup of Football. Today, we'll be covering the results of the first two matches played by our football team and how they went! Matchday 1 - Giovanniland 1-0 Alchera (Halftime: 1-0) Goals: Hortensia Purparbone (30') The first half of the match was the more active part of both halves, and also when the only goal of the match happened! The match started with fair attacks from both sides, and a very good performance from the strikers of Giovanniland: Gustavo Zapata, Pietro Takeda, and Matteo Ventomar. However, it was not any of them who scored the Giovannilandian goal, but rather the attacking midfield Hortensia! With assistance from Matteo, she received the ball in the small area and was no match for the Alcheran goalkeeper, who was successfully confused by Hortensia's distraction and did not catch her ball at the left corner of the net. After that, although Giovannilandian strikers reasonably continued their attempts at striking more goals, the coach Rodrigo Violetone switched the striker Pietro with the center back Teodoro Sonserina in order to increase the defense, and that worked effectively! During the second half, even though there were no more goals from Giovanniland to increase the advantage, the goalkeeper and the back players made sure to stop any Alcheran attempt. The team for Alchera was hoping to at least draw, but the hope never came to fruition and the match was won by Giovanniland. Nevertheless, captain Lorentio Santo-Ferrari commented that the opponents' performance was very impressive and respected the opposing team. Matchday 2 - Kurabis 0-1 Giovanniland (Halftime: 0-0) Goals: Matteo Ventomar (89') Unlike the match between Giovanniland and Alchera, the Giovannilandian and Kurabi teams together contributed to a far more interesting and fun game to watch! One can see this by the fact there were no goals at all during the first half of the match. One of the closest attempts was Giovanni Oliverde-Lastrilla's strike that ended up hitting the goalpost, and a Kurabi launch into the net that was annulled because the striker was offside. During halftime, coach Rodrigo outlined a more offensive strategy for the second half. This strategy, while continuing with the same starting eleven players, resulted in a more active confrontation of the opposing players and more ball possession by the Giovannilandian teams, leading to more shots and shots on target as well. The match was looking to be a draw, but yet, none of the teams gave up the chance of getting those 3 points from a win! Striker Gustavo launched a strong attack that required a fierce defense from the Kurabi goalkeeper, sending it backwards and gaining the Giovannilandians a corner. From there, Gabriella Orfeo sent the ball to Matteo's feat, who successfully launched the ball into the net on the dying minutes of the match! A very close game overall, with strong Giovannilandian and Kurabi performance.

  15. Islamagna, Altana Region—21:30 International Atomic Time, 4th August 1422 Klaudia kept waiting in the room, but no answer came. A question then came from staff member Quinto Rufino-Petrone, who had just arrived: "Still nothing?", to which Klaudia unfortunately nodded. Meanwhile, Amando intervened with the thought: "Remember when I said I did have an idea of who it may be?" Quinto asked, "Who do you have in mind?" "Varanius," Amando proposed. "I mean, we can't be sure, but the fact it's on our western border and that they seemingly ignored the request strengthens the possibility." "Good thought," Klaudia added, "although it could also be a mishap in the unknown ship's crew." "That's two mistakes already...", Quinto replied, "entering Giovannilandian waters and not answering our request for identification." Klaudia pointed out, "Do remember that there isn't officially a territorial water agreement in Esferos, so other nations may not recognize our claim, which is important to have in mind if we seek further contact. Nevertheless, we're still acting on it, thoughts on contacting once more?" Amando and Quinto both nodded in agreement, although the latter inquired, "what if they keep ignoring our request for the ship to identify themselves?" "Well," Klaudia explained, "then we may have to resort to confronting the ship directly with a presence of a Giovannilandian one. She'll notice the company soon enough..." "That's worst case, though, since I am hoping this is a misunderstanding," she added. Quinto responded, "Let's hope so. In the meantime, are the Borioddo coast guards aware of this? They're the closest to the ship as things stand, but it's a lesser facility in comparison to Islamagna." "Oh, yes, they are aware. I've let their chief officer, Gabriello Veltano, know about this incident, and they are also conscious of the support that we can provide." "And our command in Porto Violeto?", Amando remembered. "That I shall contact soon, once I send the message to this unruly ship. I mean, they've most surely got a notification, but I shall notify them that our Andolian facilities are already dealing with this case." A few minutes later, the unknown ship was contacted for the second time, and the Giovannilandian Navy's leadership was now cognizant of her."
  16. Thank you for the introduction! We've already talked for a while, but it's good to see you on the forums as well. I do also hope you get to know the community and become involved in the region! If you have any questions about learning how to do that, feel free to ask.

  18. "Hello there to all viewers in Giovanniland and elsewhere! Welcome to another edition of the Giovannilandian Chess Report! In this program, I will continue to present information about the Giovannilandian Chess Championship, namely the 3rd place match and the final. I'll present the match results and talk about the final results and overall ranking of players." 3rd Place Match IM Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, 2604 (+22) 5 (2) - 5 (0) GM Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, 2609 (-22) Final GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, 2721 (-14) 5 1/2 - 4 1/2 GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, 2707 (+14) "Here are the results from the two matches played yesterday and today!", Karlo exclaimed. "The final and 3rd place match were composed of 10 games each, an increase of two more than the semifinals. For the 3rd place we saw a match between International Master Vittor Nyima-Lyamo and Grandmaster Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra. The match had a very close result—Nyima-Lhamo started leading by two wins, but his lead dwindled after six draws and two wins for Rosetta-Lyra near the end that gave her some hope of winning the bronze medal. Unfortunately for Lavanda, she lost the two rapid tiebreaker matches and thus ended in fourth place. Still, that's her best finish so far, as she had only arrived in the quarter-finals at the 1419 and 1420 tournaments, and then didn't qualify in 1421. Third place was once more attained by a non-grandmaster after several years—and with a very good second edition for the International Master." Karlo then commented on the other game: "The final was played between two Grandmasters, both regarded as fair contenders for the title. Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso and Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, with a difference of only 14 ELO points, managed to draw all of the first seven matches! The spell of draws was then broken when Giovanni won the eighth match and had a fair chance of winning. However, he was outdone in the last two matches by the defending champion Guillermo!" "The defending champion therefore wins his second title in a row, currently unbeaten in the two Championship editions he's played. Amdo-Gyasso, on the other hand, finishes on a better position than in the last few editions: his 1419, 1420, and 1421 performances ended with third, fourth, and sixth place respectively, being eliminated by fellow Grandmaster Karlo Neurino-Sousa last year. This is his second best performance, after winning the championship in 1411." He noted: "This time, we have additional information, such as ELO rating at the start and end of the tournament! In regards to the ratings, Vittor Nyima-Lyamo had the greatest improvement, of an incredible +128 points, and is likely to become a Grandmaster soon. Meanwhile, the highest decrease goes to Tiberina Vestrigio, who despite this unfortunate record achieved a respectable 9th place. As for points in the competition, champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino scored highest with 7 points, whereas Edna Keler Tamara scored lowest with half a point, although she shares that score with three others, and is only counted last due to ELO rating." "That's all for today, although the leaderboard is publicly available for anyone who wants to search it to find out about more specific records. Unfortunately, the end of the competition also means that our Chess Report has come to an end, but we will resume our normal program about sports in Giovanniland and the world, and soon cover other national championships of other sports. See you!", Karlo finished.
  19. "Hey there Giovanniland, and welcome to the latest edition of the Giovannilandian Chess Report! I am your main host Karlo Nakamura-Edrense, and I'll continue to present information about the Giovannilandian Chess Championship until it finishes. Today we have some interesting information about the quarterfinals and semifinals that took place in recent days. I'll present the match results as usual for both of them!" GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, 2718 (+13) 4 - 0 CM Isidoro Artena-Santi, 2400 (-13) IM Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, 2551 (+43) 3 (2) - 3 (0) GM Gustavo Takeda, 2656 (-43) GM Sergio Amorante-Aquilano, 2729 (-23) 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, 2651 (+23) GM Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, 2607 (+35) 3 (1 1/2) - 3 (1/2) GM Karlo Neurino-Sousa, 2723 (-35) "Here are the results of the four matches played as part of the quarterfinals!", announced Karlo. "The first day featured normal matches, while tiebreakers were only finished on the following day. As a reminder, quarterfinals have a total of six classical games and then rapid game tiebreakers if a tie occurs. In the first side of the bracket, Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso soundly defeated Isidoro Artena-Santi, and there was also an exciting duel between Vittor Nyima-Lyamo and Gustavo Takeda! After two draws and two wins for each in the classical games, Nyima-Lhamo won the two tiebreakers and is now in the semifinals." Then he paused for a bit while the screen switched to the other results: "In the second side of the bracket, we see close results once more! Sergio Amorante-Aquilano and Guillermo Uryde-Amorino had five draws in a row and many interesting moves during these, fit for a match between one of the highest-ranked players and the defending-champion. The sixth game, however, saw Amorante-Aquilano unfortunately fall for a trap in the middle game, thus costing him a rook and the overall game, as well as eliminating him from the tourney. Last but not least, the fourth match also pitted two grandmasters against each other, this time Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra and Karlo Neurino-Sousa. The two had to decide on tie breakers, and Lavanda defied expectations by winning, leaving the former champion Karlo—not me, the player!—unable to reclaim his title from his golden age years of 1408 to 1410. GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, 2731 (-10) 5 - 3 IM Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, 2594 (+10) GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, 2674 (+33) 6 - 2 GM Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, 2642 (-33) "And now, here are the results from the two semifinal matches!" said Karlo. "Firstly, in the match featuring the only non-Grandmaster remaining in the competition, Vittor Nyima-Lyamo started strong by winning the first two games, but Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso then brought his opponent's surge to a halt by drawing the two next games and winning the last four in a row. Funnily enough, due to the close score and Nyima-Lyamo's lower rating, Amdo-Gyasso actually lost rating points, though hopefully he can recover them soon." Karlo then commented on the other game: "In the other side of the bracket, a grandmaster duel between Guillermo Uryde-Amorino and Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra was played. Although the first few games were all draws, Guillermo built a lead on the later games, cementing his place on the final once more. He'll decide the championship title with fellow grandmaster Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, while Lavanda will play the 3rd place match against Vittor Nyima-Lyamo." Karlo then presented the updated bracket: "Before the quarterfinals, we had six Grandmasters, one International Master, and one Candidate Master on the competition. This changed to three Grandmasters and one International Master in the semifinals, and now two Grandmasters in the final, while one Grandmaster and one International Master fight for the third place. Once more we have three Grandmasters and one non-Grandmaster still playing, just like in the last championship." "Before I finish the report, let's have a quick trip down memory lane for each of the four players still playing! The first finalist, Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, had a strong campaign in the group stage, finishing first in Group A, and then beating notable opponents such as fellow grandmaster Sereno Belmonte and two dark horses, Isidoro Artena-Santi and Vittor Nyima-Lyamo. Meanwhile, defending championship Guillermo Uryde-Amorino had an interesting group stage, meeting strong players like Nyima-Lhamo and Raffella Quadrigaro, and afterwards sailing past other Grandmasters like Sergio Amorante-Aquilano through knockout stage," Karlo noted. And he closed the program by talking about the third-place candidates: "For the third-place match, we have International Master Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, a young rising star in Giovannilandian chess, face off Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra! The former, the only non-Grandmaster remaining, made his debut two years ago in the 1420 Championship, where he was eliminated by soon-to-be-champion Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone, but this championship he's defeated formidable opponents like the highest-rated player Raffella Quadrigaro and strong championship contender Gustavo Takeda. Meanwhile, Lavanda had a miracle story in group stage, seeing as she lost the two first games but later managed to recover and to take a spot off the former champion Lavinia, as well as defeating strong opponents like Karlo Neurino-Sousa later on." "That's all to present for today! I am sure you are all awaiting for the last two matches of the tournament, they will happen very soon indeed. After that, stay tuned for the final edition of our special Chess Report as well," Karlo finished.
  20. "Hello there to all viewers in Giovanniland and elsewhere! Welcome to another edition of the Giovannilandian Chess Report! In this program, I will continue to present information about the Giovannilandian Chess Championship, and this is a special report since the first matches of the knockout phase happened on August 12th and 13th. I'll present the match results and then talk about the updated bracket and upcoming matches!" GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, 2693 (+25) 3 - 1 GM Sereno Belmonte, 2651 (-25) CM Isidoro Artena-Santi, 2393 (+7) 2 (2) - 2 (1) CM Amanda Gilvano Valli, 2380 (-7) GM Tiberina Vestrigio, 2708 (-41) 2 (1/2) - 2 (1 1/2) IM Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, 2510 (+41) GM Gustavo Takeda, 2648 (+8) 3 - 0 Giulio Punso-Lodago, 2333 (-8) GM Sergio Amorante-Aquilano, 2725 (+4) 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 GM Kyro Lartidio-Velanio, 2668 (-4) GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, 2638 (+13) 3 1/2 - 1/2 IM Margerito Alboquerko, 2477 (-13) GM Gallio Kervario Hortense, 2602 (-11) 2 (1/2) - 2 (1 1/2) GM Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, 2596 (+11) GM Karlo Neurino-Sousa, 2720 (+3) 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 GM Ottavia Zorteya, 2660 (-3) Karlo appeared on stage: "Firstly I'll explain how the knockout stage works for all viewers, especially new ones that might not be aware, like we did last year. Unlike in the group stage, there are several games for each match, with four games for the round of 16. All starting games are of the classical variety and take longer, but if the total of points reached by both players is equal, the players then break the tie by playing two rapid games of faster time control. If they also draw, then more rapid games are played until one wins. If one of the players reaches a total of points that is impossible for the other to overcome in the four main games, the remaining ones will not be played." He sipped a cup of coffee before continuing: "So, eight very interesting matches happened on the round of 16! Starting with the left side, we firstly had two Grandmasters, Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso and Sereno Belmonte, fight for a quarterfinals spot, and the former won after a convincing performance of three wins and just one loss. Giovanni will now meet the winner of a duel of Candidate Masters, Isidoro Artena-Santi and Amanda Gilvano Valli, both promising dark horses in the competition which fought until the very end, and decided the winner in the rapid tiebreaks. Unfortunately for Amanda, she won't able to repeat her former 4th place finish last year—Isidoro advances to the quarterfinals to meet one of the strongest Grandmasters of this championship." "Two more matches also happened on that side of the bracket. Grandmaster Tiberina Vestrigio and International Master Vittor Nyima-Lyamo played great matches, with the defensive style of both proving hard to be broken in many games, which led to them drawing every time, until Victor finally won on the second rapid match after a clever piece sacrifice. Last but not least, for Grandmaster Gustavo Takeda, it was easy to defeat Giulio Punso-Lodago. Now for the right side of the bracket, we start talking about a duel of very strong Grandmasters, Sergio Amorante-Aquilano and Kyro Lartidio-Velanio, which led to interesting matches with fierce attacks and gambits, and eventually Sergio managed to defeat his counterpart. He has a challenge ahead though because he will now meet defending champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, who easily defeated Margerito Alboquerko yesterday", Karlo remarked. "Last but not least, the two other matches were similar, both pitting Grandmasters against each other. One of them had to be decided by tie breaks, namely the match between Gallio Kervario Hortense and Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, in which two classical games were won by each, but Lavanda had better ability to play in faster time controls. The other one, meanwhile, had Karlo Neurino-Sousa defeat Ottavia Zorteya, with Octavia starting strong with a win but Karlo later winning twice a row and drawing the last match to solidify his quarterfinals spot." Karlo continued: "Now we see the full bracket and the positions of the eight players that remain in the competition! In the round of 16, there were eleven Grandmasters, two International Masters, two Candidate Masters and one player yet to achieve a title. Then for the quarterfinals we have six Grandmasters, one International Master, and one Candidate Master. Their distributions in each place of the bracket also open up the possibility for all semifinalists to be Grandmasters. Matches to look forward to are Vittor Nyima-Lyamo vs. Gustavo Takeda, between one of the tournament's dark horses and a player with an unbroken win streak, and Sergio Amorante-Aquilano vs. Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, a game between one of the highest rated players and the defending champion. "That is all for today—the remaining players will now rest for a day, and then play the quarterfinal matches on the August 15th and 16th. Our Chess Report will have another edition soon after that, stay tuned!"
