The Reunification

Several years after the close of the region of Gatesville many former nations, including Gates the God himself, have returned to NationStates and reunited the many successor regions of Gatesville; Holy Moosean Empire, Equilibrium, Cingeta and Gate of Evil. The reunification of Gatesville has been coordinated largely by former High Council members Nevadar, Kraut Killers, Agasaya, Ukaraine, Noctaurus, Sudros and of course Gates himself. The response of former members has been remarkable with many of them flocking to the new region of Gatesville Inc and re-establishing many old traditions; indeed, the Tavern is back open!

Gatesville is proud to be re-entering the world stage once more, strong and determined to protect the sovereignty of all nations against the tyranny of the World Assembly.

100 Nations

On March 15th, Gatesville Inc reached the 100 nation mark and is still growing! Such a feat seems trivial in the shadow of the 1000 nation strong region that Gatesville once was but such a growth in such a short period is a testament to the loyalty and work of Gatesville's former members. Bishop Othercoast wrote on the occasion:

The Sovereign Confederation

Gatesville has already begun to make its mark on the world of NationStates by joining such great regions as Equilism, The Pacific and Osiris in the Sovereign Confederation. The purpose of the organisation is stated by Astarial:

We insist that regions can and should work together based on mutual interests rather than absolute ideologies, on mutual benefits rather than sacrifices. The aim of SovCon is to promote and protect regional and national sovereignty - both our own and that of others.

Church & State!

The Gatesville Church has been established to promote the Gatesville message and interpret the Word of Max Barry. The Church, divided into the Orders of Truth, Might, Knights Templar and the Inquisition, has been working tirelessly to fight the evils of the World Assembly, encourage population growth and develop our presence abroad. Our holy Pontiff hghlighted our struggle against the WA in a recent sermon:

We are at war Gatesville. We must never forget our most fundamental purpose; to not only protect the sovereignty and freedom of all nations but to stand against the oppression of the one world order. We must not only recruit those brothers and sisters of like mind nor only fight those regions who conspire in the dark against us. We must take action in the very centre of the dominion of our enemy; to rise above any fear and plunge the knife of freedom into the heart of the World Assembly.

This week, they move against us. A resolution to limit our nation's arsenals and take our money to provide institutions to oversee this; a sly, two-faced plot dressed in the language of peace and unity. We will not be beaten down by the thorned olive branch, Gatesville. We will stand and fight this resolution and every other until our enemies like broken and disymayed.

The West Pacific

Recent events in The West Pacific saw the WA Delegate Yy4u withdraw his WA membership, placing the region into a precarious position.  TWP had recently been discussing internal restructuring which saw divisions between the region's Guardian class. At the time of Yy4u's withdrawal from the WA Gatesville was approached by TWP Guardian Eli, who held the most WA endorsements in TWP, to ensure that  an uncontested transition occurred in an effort to preserve the community that exists in TWP from any potential outside threat. Gatesville is pleased to assist while this period of restructuring is being debated and implemented by the citizens of TWP. We look forward to maintaining our historically close and long-standing ties with the government of TWP.

 

200 Nations!

Gatesville is proud to announce that over 200 nations have returned to the region or joined for the first time. This is a fantastic achievement in so short a time and a testament to the dedication of our members, particularly Durkadurkiranistan, and the strength of the Gatesville message.

WA Round-Up

The most heart-warming words a Gatesvillian can hear end with 'is no longer obligated to comply with its provisions.' In the last few days, the Vehicle Emissions Convention and First Responder Protection Act were repealed with more than 10,000 votes in favour of each repeal. A landslide victory for Gatesville and other National Sovereigntists and a clear indicator that the world is waking up to the dangers presented by the national obligations forced by the WA.

Regarding the Events in The South Pacific

An almost consistent feature of feeder conflicts is the confusion and speculation regarding the involvement of Gatesville in those affairs. The following message was sent by Gates the God to members of the Gatesville Guard yesterday and should clarify the region's stance on the matter.

 

My fellow Gatesvillians,

 

Last night at major update Milograd, the duly elected delegate of The South Pacific, took an unprecedented move in an effort to advance the cause of sovereignty in NationStates. At great personal sacrifice, and knowing with current game mechanics his efforts were doomed to eventual failure, Milograd took a stand. 

 

Our older players may not be familiar with the concept of Influence. Gatesville was founded well before its inception and flourished. In essence, nations that remain longer in a region acquire more Influence, thus making them more difficult to eject and/or ban from a region. in order to eject a nation the regional delegate must have acquired more influence than the other nation in question and then 'use up' the required amount. 

 

In its conception, it was a brilliant advance for sovereignty. In its implementation, it utterly failed and actually reduced the ability of regions to be truly sovereign in and of themselves. Older players became immune to any true punishment for not complying with their region's wishes as newer, younger players with fresh ideas attempted to make changes and bring their regions forward. This is not a valid concern in a region like Gatesville which has an active founder who maintains ultimate control, but for regions with no founder the results could be devastating.

 

Like in The South Pacific. Inactivity reigned. An established oligarchy was in complete control with no real hope of newer, more active members to be able to establish themselves and make real changes if the oligarchy did not agree. For the feeder and sinker regions of NS, this is the norm.

 

There has been much debate over several forms of media (the NS forums, regional forums, IRC, personal chat, etc) about possible solutions but without any real impetus to act. Which makes sense. Why should game mechanics be changed when there are other arguably more important aspects of NationStates to worry about? The new telegram system is amazing, but it does nothing to advance sovereignty in the game. We, as Gatesvillians, care about sovereignty. We care that nations and regions have the ability to govern themselves as they see fit. Whether that be standing by older, more experienced players or allowing newer ones to take a stand and roll with it, we think each region should have a choice about how to run itself, just as nations do. We were all new players once.

 

So Milograd took a stand. He kicked out a few of the current governmental members and explained to the region that he was tired of the current Influence system, thus sparking debate that may actually lead to real change (finally)! Most people ignore that aspect, and view him merely as a dictator who is impinging on the sovereignty of The South Pacific. It is an obvious conclusion to be drawn if one is unaware of the greater aspects at play. Milograd is not stupid. His regional Influence is such that he could never hope to hold the region for an extended period of time. If that was what he wanted, he could have remained as the legal delegate through the current system and built up Influence over time. We are not asking you to support or condemn Milograd, but we felt that our members should be aware of the situation so as to draw their own conclusions. You may feel free to move to The South Pacific and partake in the squabble on whichever side you wish, but you are also free to remain here. Gateville's official position on this matter is neutrality.

 

Our beloved Queen Nevadar, however, is not the sort of gal to let such a chance slip through her fingers as you well know. She moved personally to support Milograd in his quest, as did Regional BAMF Schleimels. One of our allies in The Sovereign Confederation disagreed with that decision and jumped to the conclusion that Gatesville was supporting Milograd. Amidst personal insults against our queen, the government of Osiris issued threats stating that if Gatesville did not remove its troops immediately they would take military action. They attempted to tell us what we could and could not do. THEY ATTEMPTED TO IMPINGE ON THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GATESVILLE ITSELF. This we will not stand for. Nevadar gave them until major update tonight to issue a formal apology or be declared an Enemy Of Gatesville.

 

This afternoon, an official apology from the Madjack, Pharoah of Osiris, was issued to Gatesville and accepted by the High Council. While relations are still strained, Osiris is no longer declared to an Enemy and we will not be taking direct military action against them at this time. If you have any further questions, you are welcome to discuss this matter on our regional forum.

 

In summary, Gatesville is remaining neutral on this issue and recognises the arguments to be made on both sides of this conflict. Following the distribution of the message, there are (at present) only 4 WA nations with Gatesville connections in The South Pacific. 

 


 

Councils of Gatesville v. The Conservative Front

The court of the Inquisition has convened to assess the allegations that have arisen concerning Conservative Front (aka _CF_). The accusation is that Conservative Front, a former High Council and current Hall of Fame member, is a supporter of the World Assembly, Gatesville's sworn enemy and the enemy to national sovereignty across NationStates. The Councils of Gatesville demand to know if one of its own has turned upon it and as such has called the Inquisition to decide if Conservative Front has crossed into treasonous waters. 

 

The outcome of the trial will be sent in the next update, but do feel free to pop by and watch the proceedings from the public gallery where refreshments and thow-able objects will be available.

 


 

300+ Nations

 

Once again we are happy to report that Gatesville Inc has hit another milestone on the road to restoration! Owing to the speed of our recovery, it is not hard to imagine Gatesville once boasted 1200+ nations (not counting the 300+ nations in our franchises) at its height. Once again, we offer thanks to those have aided the recruitment efforts and especially to the former members who continue to return in droves!

 


 

Z-Day!

Following the events of Z-Day, 1.6% of the population of Gatesville Inc remains uninfected. Gatesville Inc put up a strong resistance to the zombie threat, mostly by force of arms and as a consequence roughly 83% of the region are now dead. We hope the remaining 1.6% of uninfected and 14.9% infected citizens will be able to live together under the ever watchful eyes of Gates the Late and High Mummy Nevadar. 

 

 

 

World Assembly Report

The office of the World Assembly Advocate, Gatchina, has produced the following report:

Comrades,

 

This round of WA voting they got the better of us. Against Corruption passed 

 

Statistics are as follows:

 

Against Corruption was passed 9,319 to 4,755.

This vote’s turnout was better than last time, about 45 of our 73 WA Nations voted on the resolution. 2 of our nations voted contrary to regional voting guidelines while the rest of you voted in accordance with regional suggestions. 

 

This brings us to the state of regional endorsements. As mentioned, the region has 73 WA members out of 330. Thus, we are operating at about 22% WA members, which is consistent with regional trends. I am pleased that several new nations have joined the WA in order to help us fight it. If your main nation resides in Gatesville Inc., please consider joining the WA to help increase regional power. 

 

We have seen an increase in delegate endorsement which pleases me greatly. We are operating at around 84% for delegate endorsement, which better and better. I really would like to see 100% of WA nations endorsing the delegate. 

 

I will close by repeating my traditional message: If you are not a member of the WA, I strongly urge you to join and endorse the delegate. We must all be able to share in triumph! You all have the ability to help us with our crucial mission!

Howdy folks of TWP.  I will be stepping in for Lexus for the next few weeks as Interim FAA.  He tried to retire on us, but we wouldn't let him.  So he took a leave of absence instead.  :D

 

I'm hoping to have an update out sometime this week.  But we'll see if Nev comes up with more dastardly plans for me that delay it any.

Foreword

Hello everybody!  I hope you all enjoy these morsels of GV that I've laid out for you today.  Some folks might remember me as that former FAA that Gatesville used to have.  You might also remember me as a former WA Delegate of Gatesville.  Today I bring you the news as Gatesville's Regional BAMF and most importantly, Interim Foreign Affairs Advocate.  Don't worry, good ol' Pope Lexus should be around for the next update.

Gatesville and TWP Declare War on Sobriety

With Gatesville's triumphant return to NS, it was only a matter of time before old friends found their way to each other.  In this regard, Gatesville and The West Pacific have rekindled their storied alliance for the new times.  In typical GV/TWP fashion, we have declared war on sobriety and marsupials, while mandating a steady diet of chocolate.

The Alco-Choco-Klingon Treaty

Article 1 - Non-Aggression against Signatories
1. No Signatory shall conduct military operations against another Signatory Region.
2. No Signatory shall directly or indirectly support military operations against another Signatory Region.

Article 2 - Defence of Signatories Under Attack
1. Where any Signatory Region has had military action conducted against it, then the other Signatory that is aware of that action must provide as much military support as it can provide without resulting in a significant threat to its own military security, and will do everything possible to mobilise that support.
2. A Signatory is aware of military action when it has been informed on its forums or when it has noticed the action itself.
3. Article 2.1 does not apply for a Signatory under Article 2.2 when the military action in question is conducted by an ally of that Signatory.
4. For the purposes of this Article, an ally of a Signatory is a region with a Treaty with a Signatory that provides positive material benefit to a Signatory going beyond non-aggression. Each Signatory must inform the other Signatory of their allies.

Article 3 - Counterattack
1. Where a Signatory Region has had military action conducted against it by any other region or organisation, the other Signatory will provide as much military support as can be given for the purposes of any counterattack that the Signatory may wish to undertake, without causing a significant threat to its own military security.
2. In order for Article 3.1 to apply, the Signatory in question must have informed the other Signatories of its intention to make a counterattack within one month of the last military action, and in any case does not apply if two months have passed since the last military action.
3. Article 3.1 does not apply for a Signatory required to provide military support under Article 3.1 when the military action in question is conducted against an ally of that Signatory.
4. For the purposes of this Article, an ally of a Signatory is a region with a Treaty with a Signatory that provides positive material benefit to a Signatory going beyond non-aggression. Each Signatory must inform the other Signatory of their allies.

Article 4 - Other Military Support
In situations that do not fall elsewhere under this Part, each Signatory will endeavour to provide military support to the other Signatory when requested by that other Signatory, and where it is consistent with their own policies.

Article 5 - Non-Transmission of Information to Non-Allies
1. Article 5.1 applies to, but is not limited to, information about military operations, intelligence operations and IP addresses.
2. A Signatory may not pass on any information provided by the other Signatory unless that information is already in the public domain or if the Signatory providing the information gives its consent.

Article 6 - Intelligence Requests
1. Each signatory shall strive to provide information to the other signatory upon request with minimum delay where their own internal policy and structure allows.
2. Upon the discovery of intelligence information that is relevant to a signatory , the signatory with this information is obliged to inform the other of any potential dangers and provide the necessary details.
3. Articles 6.1 and 6.2 apply to, but are not limited to, information regarding military operations, intelligence reports, intelligence operations and IP addresses.
4. Articles 6.1 and 6.2 do not apply if the information in question was provided by an ally of the signatory who recieves the information. Signatories may request that such information be shared, however.
5. For the purposes of this Article, an ally of a Signatory is a region with a Treaty with the Signatory in question that provides positive material benefit to a Signatory going beyond non-aggression. Each Signatory must inform the other Signatory of their allies.

Article 7 - Training Exercises
Signatories will endeavour to undertake military training exercises together, including exercises in Warzones, for which they will use as much of their military as they can reasonably mobilise.

Article 8 - Diplomatic Support
Each Signatory will endeavour to provide diplomatic support to the other Signatory where it is possible for them to do so while being consistent with their own policies and other alliances.

Article 9 - Definitions
For the purposes of this Treaty, the following definitions shall apply:
(i) Signatories: The governments of the regions Gatesville and The West Pacific, that have signed this Treaty.
(ii) Signatory Region: A Region whose government has signed this Treaty, or whose foreign policy is legally subordinated to such a region either by statute or by treaty, and with other Signatory having been informed of that status.
(iii) Military action: Attempting to change the WA Delegacy of a region other than by a legal process of that region.
(iv) Military support: Endorsing a nation that is the nominated WA Delegate of the supported Signatory, whether in a Signatory Region or elsewhere, on any terms that may be set by the supported Signatory.
(v) Endeavour: This has the effect of making a provision non-binding on the Signatories, while imposing a duty to act in good faith in relation to the provision.
(vi) Intelligence information: This refers to any information gathered on intelligence missions either within a signatory region or in another region by a member of a signatory region working for that regions intelligence department or simillar organisation. Information can refer to individuals, groups or regions.



Article 10 - Misc.
1. Marsupials will be shot on sight within the signatory regions.
2. Chocolate shall become the official dessert served at all joint TWP-Gatesville functions.
3. All interactions between signatory regions must be conducted with a BAC no lower than .08%.



We hope that this treaty, like those in the past, will stand the test of time and continue to foster relations between our two regions.


 

TSP Dissolves Relations, Gatesville Declares War, Cooler Heads Prevail

It was a tense morning when The South Pacific dissolved their relations with Gatesville over a misunderstanding with their recent coup.  In response to the dissolution of embassies, Gatesville named TSP an enemy of the state and promply declared war.  Fortunately, Queen Nevadar and TSP WA Delegate, Brutland and Norden, were able to meet and hash out the disagreement.  Everyone left the meeting on cordial terms, the declaration of war and enemy of the state tag withdrawn, and embassies opened back up.  Gatesville is pleased that we are once again on amicable relations with our friends in TSP.


 

Gatesville Leaves the Sovereign Confederation

Following lengthy discussion, the Gatesville High and Middle Councils have decided to withdraw Gatesville's membership in the Sovereign Confederation.  This decision has been taken to ensure that, with Gatesville's rebirth, the new region take the best route possible to pursue its goals to protect freedom and the sovereignty of all nations and regions in NationStates.  We wish our former colleagues in the Sovereign Confederation the best and we intend to work to maintain the links we have established there in furtherance of our shared aims.


 

Councils of Gatesville v. The Conservative Front, Pt II

After several witnesses, much testimony, and a lot of deliberation, the Inquisition passed down the ruling of guilty of being a supporter of the WA (2-1).  Conservative Front's punishment for such heinous crimes are as follows:

1. CF is hereby required to give declaration that he has seen the error of his ways and will support Gatesville in the fight against the WA and her allies.

2.  CF will join the Gatesville Guard at the rank of Trainee, lower than the standard entry rank of Private.

3.  CF will be required to show his official reprimand in his forum signature at all times.

We hope to see a change in the ways of CF so he may once again be held it the esteem of years past.


 

World Assembly Report

As always, our esteemed WA Advocate, Gatchina, has produced another WA report in painstaking detail.

WA Affairs Report IV

Recent WA Votes:

1. Stopping Suicide Seeds (GA)
Outcome: Passed: 9,956 to 4,312

2. Condemn Jakker (SC)
Outcome: Passed 9,863 to 2,111

3. Repeal "Reduction of Abortion Act (GA)
Outcome: Passed 9,183 to 3,977

4.  Condemn Aglrinia (SC)
Outcome: Passed 7,804 to 4,106

On the Declaration of War was defeated by an overwhelming majority of WA voters. This shows us that even the “peaceful” hippies that exert great influence in the WA are susceptible to concerns for national security and therefore sovereignty.

WA Nations & Endorsement

Number of WA Nations: 95 (25%)

Endorsement Percentage: 76 (85%)

The region has increased its membership from 83 to 95 WA members since last update. 95 out of 374. This increase is good and we are closer than ever to our first 100 endorsements. Yet the total number of WA nations is not quite where I’d like it to be. We have hit 25% for WA nations; this is a big milestone for us and though it may not seem like it, we have jumped a big hurdle.

Miscellaneous

The Holy Inquisition has found Conservative Front guilty of supporting the WA. We in Gatesville are a forgiving bunch and thus the punishment is not so severe. Conservative Front will change his ways and will continue to serve this Great Region in the valiant way he did in the past. This trial is a testament to the extreme dedication of this Region to our mission, that we would put an esteemed citizen on trial for supporting the WA. Our allegiance to our own citizens and to our mission makes us a truly remarkable region!

It should also be noted that Gatesville and Osiris have recently set aside our differences and worked together to craft the current resolution at vote in the General Assembly.  A repeal of the Physical Sites Protection Act was co-authored by The Dourian Embassy (Osirian WA Delegate) and Gatchina (Gatesvillian WA Advocate).  At this moment the voting is heavily in favor of the repeal, and it appears that it will remain that way.  This repeal is just the first of many Gatesville backed or influenced pieces of legislation that will be making it through the World Assembly, and it would be our pleasure to continue the work with our like minded Osirian friends.
