The Reign of Artanar Nellaspordo; The Eisgarth Canal and the Arsium Reforms
Artanar Nellaspordo was born into the noble family of Nellaspordo, who long had ruled the lands around Arsium. Growing up he developed a deep sense of empathy and a genuine concern for the well-being of Garahun's citizens. Raised with a strong moral compass, he was inspired by the teachings of compassion and justice found in the historical narratives of benevolent leaders, such as Tarneman II. Bonefadolon. He was elected as prince-bishop in 1344 by a slim majority in the Council of Illegon, after having served as a bishop in Arsium for a decade, and ruled until 1392.
    Arsium Reforms:
Artanar Nellaspordo's reign as prince-bishop was characterized by a series of transformative social reforms that aimed to uplift the lives of the people of Garahun. He implemented concrete measures to address poverty, inequality, and societal injustices, such as:
    1.     The Ecumenical Education Initiative: Recognizing the transformative power of education, Artanar Nellaspordo initiated widespread reforms in the education sector. He tasked the churches across Garahun to ensure that every child, regardless of their social status or background was educated from age 7 to 12. The schooling initiative also indirectly led to the end of child labour in the countryside, as the children had to go to schools six days a week. Scholarships and grants were provided to support deserving students, allowing them to pursue higher education in the universities of Udôn, Illegon or Arsium and contribute to the intellectual, religious, and cultural development of Garahun.
    2.     Healthcare Reforms of 1361: In his pursuit of social welfare, Artanar Nellaspordo prioritized the well-being of his citizens. He established healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and dispensaries, in both urban centres and rural areas. The creation of local healthcare facilities was rushed, however, and Garahun suffered from a lack of doctors. This led to many of the reforms being pulled back throughout 1365.
    3.     Iusmarite Institutional reforms: Artanar Nellaspordo ordered a public debate in Illegon in 1364, where he remarked himself as a completely unique prince-bishop; he challenged the writings of the three pillars. Representatives of Artanar caused a great uproar, when they presented two conflicting holy proclamations of the three pillars:
“Some are born to rule on behalf of I, the great Ius. Most are born to serve me and my higher subjects.”

“The worship of I, the great Ius, is collective, and each must serve me in accordance with my teachings”

Artanar argued that the ones born to rule behalf of the great Ius were not directly the powerful families who held religious and political authority in Garahun, but the ruling bodies themselves. Even though the ruling bodies (The Council of Illegon and The Synod of Udôn, for instance) only consisted of powerful nobles, he thought that the existing laws ensuring the accension to power of specific high-ranking individuals were unjust, because they didn’t correlate with the words of the great Ius.
Many disagreed with Artanar’s point of view, but nonetheless he made it possible for everyone to become a member of the Council of Illegon and Synod of Udôn, if they had the necessary education. A few young talents, who had been given scholarships under The Ecumenical Education Initiative, where adopted into the Synod of Udôn, but the Council of Illegon remained completely controlled by the old nobles, as The Dikares (holy court of Illegon) blocked the entry of common people into the council. The great elector (The Anahar-Ius) of the council, Hamas Theobaldicus, became very enraged with Artanar after the reforms were implemented. The people, however, celebrated Artanar greatly after the initial shock of progressivism ended.
    The Eisgarth Canal:
Artanar Nellaspordo's most iconic achievement was the construction of the Eisgarth Canal, an engineering marvel that transformed Garahun’s transportation and economic landscape. Artanar Nellaspordo envisioned the canal as a safe trave way around the dangerous Salt Sea, which would facilitate trade, and spur economic growth through trade with Ostronia and other nations in Western Nur. The construction of the canal, which was overseen by the Synod of Udôn, led to the following:
    1.     Economic Stimulus: The construction of the Eisgarth Canal created employment opportunities for countless individuals, stimulating economic activity and uplifting local communities. The canal served as a vital trade route, connecting Garahun's major cities with Western Nur and enabling the efficient transportation of goods. This led to an expansion of commerce, increased market accessibility, and the growth of industries along the canal's path.
    2.     Regional Integration: The Eisgarth Canal fostered regional integration by commercially linking previously isolated south of Garahun with the north. The influx of Garahunnic trade vessels facilitated cultural exchange, allowing people from diverse backgrounds to interact and share ideas. Moreover, it promoted the exchange of goods, knowledge, and innovations, further fuelling Garahun's progress as a centre of intellectual and economic activity.
    Assassination of Artanar Nellaspordo
Artanar had with the construction of the Eisgarth Canal, and his many reforms become extremely popular with the Garahunnic population. However, the conservative nobility was enraged that they had lost privileges, and pockets of cultural resistance to the reforms did exist in Garahun’s major cities. The Council of Illegon feared that the tensions could lead to another civil war. But they also feared that removing Artanar could lead to a mob rebellion and a collapse of the rule of the great Ius, which was their holy duty to uphold. Therefore, the great elector and the council of Illegon prepared the assassination of Artanar in the winter of 1392. The elector, Hamas Theobaldicus, declared a special gathering of the council. They had staged a murder scene, where a group of religious conservatists seemed to have slipped past the guards. They shot Artanar while he was speaking to the council of Illegon and flew the scene. The Council did nothing, as his blood spilled on their holy alter. Only when it was revealed that Artanar had survived the assassination attempt, did Hamas Theobaldicus rush up to the alter, where he personally strangled his prince-bishop to death in front of the council. He rose and challenged anyone to depose him as great elector. No one did. Immediately after, Hamas declared himself as the candidate as the new prince-bishop and was shortly after elected as Areolus II. Theobaldicus. He was later granted the nickname ‘The great Zealot’ by the nobility (who did not know of his involvement in the murder of Artanar), because he would draw back almost al the reforms implemented during the reign of Artanar Nellaspordo.
    Legacy and Enduring Impact:
Artanar Nellaspordo's benevolent education and religious reforms and the construction of the Eisgarth Canal left an indelible legacy on Garahun's history. His vision for religious equality, as well as his commitment to transformative infrastructure, continue to shape the nation's identity and development. He was the first prince-bishop ever to take into account the will of the people, and for that he was loved. Although he was assassinated and replaced by Areolus II. Theobaldicus, who turned back most of his reforms and started the South Hallessekratamian War, Artanar Nellaspordo is still a revered figure in Garahun today. Some cultist Iusmarites even worship him on par with the great Ius, in a heresy resembling that of Ôlfar III.

Because of the war, several new interpretations of Iusmarism sprung up. Many sects began looking for another god of the overworld, as it had become a common belief that The Great Ius had an equal. Also the reign of Artanar Nellaspordo would show that different interpretations of the Three Pillars began to appear.

The reign of Areolus II. Theobaldicus
    Introduction:

The reign of Areolus II Theobaldicus marked a significant turning point in Garahun's history, characterized by a return of the traditional power structures of the prince-bishopric. This short essay will examine the key events and policies that shaped Areolus II's reign and their impact on the nation. Areolus ruled as prince-bishop from 1399 until the present day.
Ascension to Power and the Assassination of Artanar Nellaspordo:

Areolus II Theobaldicus came into power through a tragic event – the assassination of his predecessor, Artanar Nellaspordo. In 1392, the conservative nobility, led by the great elector Hamas Theobaldicus, plotted to remove Artanar, fearing the collapse of the rule of the great Ius because of Artanar’s religious reforms. They staged an assassination attempt during a council gathering, ultimately resulting in Artanar's death. Hamas Theobaldicus, seizing the opportunity, declared himself the candidate for the new prince-bishop and was subsequently elected with the new name of Areolus II Theobaldicus.
The Red Night of Anschenhof (1399):

One of the notable events during Areolus II's reign was the Red Night of Anschenhof in 1399. Seeking to quash political resistance and opposition, Areolus II ordered the murder of several political figures and Kratan resistance members who had gathered in Anschenhof. He also wanted to show he was a powerful political figure, who one would be foolish to oppose. He hoped to demonstrate to the heretical movements in Garahun that their fight was needless, and expected them to back down after seeing what Areolus was capable of in South Hallessekratamia. During the rule of Artanar Nellaspordo, negotiations with the resistance movement had been ongoing, and they had been allowed to coexist with the Garahunnic authority in the region. This brutal act effectively silenced the organized resistance in South Hallessekratamia and Brahair, solidifying Areolus II's grip on power. However, the remaining resistance fighters took up arms and called for Kalmachian aid. They would wait for 20 years for a Kalmachian intervention.
    Regressive Policies:

Areolus II Theobaldicus implemented a series of regressive reforms during his reign, undoing many of the progressive policies of his predecessor, Artanar Nellaspordo. He rolled back the social and educational reforms, including the Ecumenical Education Initiative, which provided equal access to education for all children. Furthermore, he undermined the Iusmarite institutional reforms introduced by Artanar, reestablishing the dominance of the noble families in the Council of Illegon and Synod of Udôn. These regressive reforms stifled social progress and reinforced the existing power structures. However, because of the newly emerged interpretations of Iusmarism, the regressive policies of Areolus mostly brought instability, even though they pleased the nobles of Garahun.
    The South Hallessekratamian War:

A significant event during Areolus II's reign was the South Hallessekratamian War, which erupted following tensions between Garahun and Kalmach. The war was fuelled by Garahun's oppressive rule over the provinces of South Hallessekratamia, Brahair, and Western Krymóst, which had been acquired during previous conflicts. Kalmachian forces, seeking to liberate these territories, launched a direct invasion in 1420. The war witnessed initial Kalmachian successes, such as the swift conquest of South Hallessekratamia, but subsequent resistance from Garahunnic forces led to a stalemate, which crippled many aspects of Garahunnic society.
    Conclusion:

The reign of Areolus II Theobaldicus was a period of significant political turmoil and regression in Garahun's history. His ascension to power through the assassination of Artanar Nellaspordo and the subsequent Red Night of Anschenhof solidified his rule, but at a great cost to political and civil stability, as well as social progress. The regressive reforms implemented during his reign rolled back the advancements made by his predecessor and entrenched the power of the noble families. The South Hallessekratamian War, sparked by Garahun's oppressive rule, further highlighted the tumultuous nature of Areolus II's reign. The reign of Areolus was a harsh response to a previous progressive movement, which intended to reestablish order. Even though the religious power structure was reestablished, the nation became very unstable.

    Iusmarism

The Iusmarite faith is a religious belief system that originated on the ancient island of Nordo, in Kalmach. Today it is almost exclusively present in Garahun, which was settled by Iusmarites fleeing the religious genocide in Kalmach around 1000. It centres around the worship of the great Ius, the deity of the sea and the underworld, who is believed to have a significant influence over natural forces of the world. Iusmarites believe that Ius holds ultimate power and control over all aspects of existence. They view Ius as both a benevolent and a wrathful deity, capable of bringing blessings and protection but also capable of unleashing chaos and destruction. The followers of Iusmarism believe that by aligning themselves with the will of Ius and adhering to the teachings of the faith, they can attain favour, guidance, and salvation. This they do by following the appointed vassals of the Ius, being the priesthood.

Central to the Iusmarite faith is the belief in the existence of three pillars: the Pillar of Obedience, the Pillar of Knowledge, and the Pillar of Service. They were three stone pillars inscribed with the laws and teachings of the great Ius located on the island of Nordo. However, the pillars were lost during the Violetist genocide. These pillars represent the core principles that govern the relationship between humans and Ius.

    1.     The Pillar of Obedience emphasizes the importance of following the divine will of the Ius. It emphasizes obedience to the religious laws, rituals, and practices that are believed to bring individuals closer to Ius and secure their place in the afterlife.

    2.     The Pillar of Knowledge emphasizes the acquisition of spiritual knowledge and wisdom. Iusmarites believe in the power of understanding and interpreting the sacred texts and teachings of Ius. They believe that through studying and contemplating these teachings, individuals can deepen their connection with the Ius and gain insights into the mysteries of life.

    3.     The Pillar of Service emphasizes the importance of serving the Ius and his priesthood (his vassals on the overworld). Iusmarites believe in acts of compassion, charity, and justice as a means of manifesting the Ius' teachings in the world. Service to others, particularly to one’s superiors, is seen as a way to honour the Ius and fulfil one's spiritual obligations.

The Iusmarite faith is often practiced through communal gatherings in places of worship known as Iusmarite temples or shrines, as well as in daily life by obeying the priesthood. These gatherings involve prayers, rituals, and ceremonies conducted by religious leaders known as Olarchioi (Bishops). Iusmarite religious law provides guidance and instruction for worship and moral conduct. The religious law is formulated by the prince-bishop, his advisors and the Dikares (the holy court). With the exclusion of the reign of Anahar Nellaspordo and during the War of Religion, the laws of Garahun were made in accordance with what could be remembered from The Three Pillars.

Since after the end of The Garahunnic War of Religion, the interpretation and practices of the Iusmarite faith may vary among different communities within Garahun. The need for a god of the overworld, that unlike the great Ius is visible in everyday life has spread among Iusmarites. Also, the original writings on the three pillars have been largely forgotten, delegitimizing the religious laws of Garahun.

Overall, the Iusmarite faith is a complex and deeply rooted religious system that shapes the spiritual and cultural identity of the people of Garahun. It provides a framework for understanding the mysteries of existence, cultivating personal piety, and seeking harmony with the divine forces of the world.

Below is a tiny section of the Pillar of Obedience. The Three pillars were covered with thousands of such segments, being laws and teachings of the Great Ius.

Above is a map of Garahun's regions. The city of Udôn was until the Kalmach invasion under direct control and direct taxation of the Synod of Udôn, and adhered to slightly different interpretations of the laws of the Ius. Most importantly, the city was not affected by the reforms of Artanar Nellaspordo during 1344-1392. The region of Brahair only consists of the westernmost half of an ancient region under Kalmachian influence with the same name.
The islands in the Salt Sea west of Garahun are under the direct administration of the Council of Illegon, but are taxed and administrated separately from the region of Haldôr. Religious minorities exisist on these islands.

    Following the government change…

Par on course - Everyday lives and effects

It has now been a long while since the government was basically overthrown by a large angry population. The back then provisional government, which could be described as a mere joke, took on a quite significant stance, changed multiple policies all over, instated new ones and brought democracy back. They weren’t lying about freedom from the oppression of the previous government when they stormed the government seat. The current government has now grown semi-stable but is still majorly overwhelmed with bureaucracy and the effectiveness of handling it can at best be described as lack-luster and only forced to work on. Of course, this covers a major scope such as enforcement of policies, lots of agencies for work, families etc., aswell as taxes and different forms for state issued IDs and much, much more miscellaneous concerns and issues. As already described, there’s a backlog. And it is huge. It is affecting everyday lives to the point of having to wait around 5 weeks for government mail to be delivered, which in many cases is already way too late for the origin problem. This eventually led to a widely frowned upon “pick up policy” which was instated to get the mail to the recipient in time. Very urgent to semi urgent mail now needs to be picked up manually by the addressee at the nearest city hall, financial institution, aswell as several different offices, and in rare cases the post offices itself. With this policy in place, the backlog of bureaucracy has been reduced only by a marginal amount, but the reduction is picking up pace with more government reforms, votes and general stability so forecasts see it only as a matter of time until that issue is resolved.

The next point on the list would be general life, happiness, education, public transport, and health. For one, the government has been changed, that we know for sure. But what benefits or even drawbacks/ disadvantages affect the populace? A major point to address would be the now more liberal way of life. The previous government had enacted policies, such as bans on clothes in schools, very high tax rates, public surveillance and even curfews with armed patrols in some places in Fauthur. These were just a few examples but almost all “non-liberal” policies, as the government describes, are now reversed and to a very major degree non-existent. This has changed many a life for the better and gave a boost to production and overall freedom in the workplace, aswell as private and internet life, resulting in the overall population becoming more happy on average, seeing a whopping 18% increase since the government change. Furthermore, a lot of welfare policies and public services were enacted, as far as the budget allows to not draw even more debt to the economy - which we will come to later. A few examples are state provided healthcare and education, effectively making these sectors public and state funding, leading to an equal, tax free, also majorly cheap and effective treatment, aswell as state covered expenses for elementary and secondary school materials and the testing of introducing electronics, such as TVs and computers into some schools around the capital. This is being called “digitalisation of education” by the government and has received, in contrast to the pick-up policy, huge popularity, especially with the youth. Another aspect would be the started expansion of the rail network. As known from a long ago time until the change, the Fauthurian rail network is majorly outdated, in need of repairs, underfunded and has a plethora of other issues going on. Even though it strained the budget, the government also decided to take over the rail sector into a state-owned status, providing and covering expenses to the national rail company to expand the network, build more train stations and overhaul the overall system, with the goal of firstly, getting it to even work. The out of date rail system has been a major economical issue in Fauthur for generations, cutting off major travel routes internationally, inconveniencing industries and leading to a GDP decrease, in turn increasing car and truck usage, polluting the environment.
With the now ongoing repairs and overhaul of the rail system, upgrading, restoring and building stuff, the country is set for a reintegration of public transport by train and more industry productivity by the end of 1425, if done well. The government is allocating major ressources and incentivised workers for this long term project to speed it up, but still have surveillance over all the safety regulations and faulty systems elimination.

Bus Transport in connection to schools has also been slightly expanded overall, with students now getting free bus passes if they reside more than 3 kilometers of flight distance from the school they are attending too, and also establishing extra bus lines just for students. Whereas sadly, the bus ticket prices were raised by 50 Presence Coin (Presence Token form of European cent) which the, government stated, would be a “fair exchange of services”.

Current traffic laws and road maintenance was also impacted in the change, with the government changing speed limits, setting up speed traps, overhauled specifically only very bad highway and main city connections, and enacted, with a surprisingly major acceptance, a ban on very low miles per gallon cars, needing every car to be produced by new efficiency standards and wanting to complete transition away from low MPG cars by the end of 1427, prompting many people with low MPG cars to seek alternatives. The government also incentivizes this but a little, making it not really attractive to transition, but many people seeing it as a forced transition of sorts. This was a heavy blow to the already struggling automobile industry in the country, now more heavily reliant on Kalmash car imports and already in connection to expand the contract.

Recent changes on the international political stage in contrast to the government change has spiked a change in overall hostility, especially against citizens of Fauthurian nature, aswell as several other non-ethnic Fauthurian groups, prompting a more secluded and pessimistic way of life for Aftokratorian population centers in Fauthur. Whileas in other aspects, the government decided to institute more small-ish national parks, due to the size of the forests still available, protecting more forest and also still untouched natural habitats for flora and fauna to thrive alike. In the industrial and agricultural heartland of Fauthur however, the forestry industry is booming with widespread deforestation with the reason of “expanding the available industrial and agricultural space”, which is seen as an honest, but not condoned reason by locals.

In the final aspect before the economy - The government
As mentioned very often above, the government changed and a free democracy, now with a hint of socialism due to state owned industries emerged, facing many problems with just some listed above, but settling ok in their current position with neighboring countries and inside the state of Fauthur.
Of course, it is still in the process of stabilizing even itself, but it already brought great and liberal change to the people of Fauthur who still sigh in relief, that the terror imposed upon them by the previous government for generations on end, finally came to an end. It is hosting it’s own almost full fledged voting and appointing policies, aswell as a public voter integration which requires the government, by law, to hold a public referendum on law changes, law enactments etc., as also done with voting the parliament of course.
Things should get done more slowly now in the face of these regulations, as the emergency power-state of the provisional government came to an end with stability and an actual, internationally recognized state.

Fluctuation by the hour - The Fauthurian economy in retrospect to all the changes, regulations and budget cuts, aswell as budget raises in other places
As mentioned before, we will now dive a bit into the economical aspects of the changes, well, rather said a summary of everything.
    ———
Starting off with, surprise, the start, where it began. Immediately after the government change, the new provisional government had implemented a whole change to the economy, impacting multiple industrial sectors and sent prices fluctuating by the hour. The changes were so drastic however, that for a very brief duration of two weeks, the country had such an unstable economy, it had to print money to keep itself afloat. This resulted in a high inflation spike, with prices at it’s peak being 227% more expensive than normal. However, this caused several problems and maybe even a few crashes in some industries, that is was an absolute marvel the economy recovered as fast as it did to stop the inflation. Things seemed to be going to plan, for a short while atleast. The economy, along with it’s markets and industries strangely stabilized themselved in an unstabilized state, making drastic price changes by the hour, aside the recovery and 4 months after. New and more economy changes, some of them may even be last minute, brought the economy back on track either stagnating, or slightly growing in cycles. This was the case until just recently, as the government passed major policies and changes, such as the nationalization of the health and train industries, needing the government to dump extraordinary amounts of funds into these projects and even having to raise bus fare prices and put up a reinforced amount of speed traps, radar traps, and radar controls to gain some income to mitigate the nationalization somewhat. This used up all available funds and put the government in slightly more debt than it already is, leading to a higher interest rate and putting more strain on the economy.
Experts although forecast some stabilization, aswell as a GDP increase and economic production boost in the coming years, implementing itself slowly and will be barely noticeable but if compared to the past.

This was a brief summary and reflection of some events going on, with the change of government still pretty much in progress and establishing itself even more, gaining in popularity. The story goes on and we will await the next big update on the matter. Renaming topic to - A change in pace, Documentation and Effects after “Liberation day”, as the people now dub it.

“The Tlanowa is not mortally wounded and should recover, they are currently resting after surgery.” said the guard over the phone. Yenuha and Yonaguska let out a relieved sighs at the news,
“Thank you, keep visitors to a minimum and security high. Do not let the Tlanowa near any windows and keep information about their condition top secret for now.” ordered Yenuha,
    “Understood, sir.”
Upon putting the phone down, Yonaguska ran a hand down his face and fell back into a chair,
“Thank the Great Spirit that we don’t have to deal with the fallout of a successful assassination.” said Yonaguska,
“Yes, but we still have to catch the person behind this. As soon as we let news of Adsila’s condition reach the public the assassin will likely strike again.” said Yenuha as he takes a bottle of rum out of a liquor cabinet and pours himself and Yonaguska a glass. But before either of them could take a sip Yenuha’s phone started to ring. With a groan, Yenuha checked who it was from Director of Communications, Awinita, and answered the call,
    “He-”
“Pull up the news, now!” barked Director Awinita.
Yenuha gave a worried look at Yonaguska before having Yonaguska pull up the RNN’s live news broadcast. When the video loaded, they saw General Waholi speaking to the reporters at the entrance of the house.
“While Her Majesty’s condition and her assassin is unknown to us. However, we have strong suspicions that the perpetrator was an operative from the commie Fujansk government with support from the socialist groups in Zoran. We believe that the fujansk and the socialists seek to destabilize our nation through the assassination of our beloved Queen…”
Yenuha slammed his fist down on the desk,
“That bastard!” he exclaimed, “I knew he should have been put under watch!”
“This is not good, we just started to recover from the Kalmach affair and now this!” groaned Yonaguska,
“Awinita, what’s your plan for dealing with this?” asked Yenuha,
“First, I am going to need you to get him off the air!” answered Awinita, “Only then can I organize a press conference to express our apologies and clear up the misinformation spread by Waholi. How you deal with the Fujansk and the socialists is on you.”
“Alright, I will see what I can do. Keep me posted.” said Yenuha before hanging up and turning to Yonaguska, “Come on, let’s get Waholi out of the spotlight.”

New Zoradia, Zoran, Scene of the Crime
    12:10 AM Overtime
An old, rusted, and beaten up car rumbles down the street towards the crime scene with an older man behind the wheel. As he reaches the barricade he is stopped by an officer of the Agency of National Security,
“Sir, you must turn around and take a detour, the road ahead is blocked off. Civilians are forbidden from entering the crime scene.” said the officer,
“Oh well, sir, eh I’m a police officer,” he says as he digs into his rumpled raincoat and pulls out his badge and ID, “Lieutenant Golivmiwo, NZPD. I was told I would be allowed to investigate the crime scene.”
The officer looks over the identification to verify the identity of the lieutenant,
“Oh, apologies Lieutenant. We were told to expect an officer from the NZPD but you don’t look like a police officer.”
“Oh it’s no problem, sir, I get that a lot.”
“Right this way then, you can park up here.”
Lieutenant Golivmiwo is then escorted by the officer to a parking space and is taken to the scene of the crime. The place where the queen’s body is laid has been outlined with tape and a group of agents are gathered around the area.
“This is where it happened, lieutenant. But this is about as good as we can get because we think the bullet is in the Queen’s body. So we won’t know much until we get details fro-” he stopped as he looked over at the lieutenant who is holding a cigar in one hand and patting around his body with the other,
“Hey, uh, do you have a match?” Lieutenant Golivmiwo asks the officer,
“No, I don’t smoke. Are you paying attention, Lieutenant?”
“Yes sir.” he says before walking up to another officer, “You got a match?” he asks again, before proceeding to ask nearly every officer on the platform until someone finally has a lighter and helps him light his cigar. He then walks around the scene, observing the outline of the body before squatting down next to it. He turns to look at the officer that had been speaking to him,
“Hey er uh, you don’t happen to have the bullet do you?”
“No!” he exclaims, “I knew you weren’t listening.” he says with a sigh,
“Well uh, I think I may have found it.”
The officer looks at him in disbelief,
“What? Where?” he says and two other officers join him in walking over to where the lieutenant is.
“You see that little hole in the floorboards there,” he says while gesturing to the hole with his cigar, “If you look closely you can see splintering around the hole and at the right angle you can see a glint of what looks like metal deeper in the hole.”
“How did we miss this?” says the officer in disbelief,
“I don’t know sir, you tell me.” he says with a smile, “Can someone from ballistics try and figure out where the bullet may have been fired from before we analyze it?” he says to other officers around him. From there the lieutenant gets up and hums the old nursery rhyme, This Old Man, to himself as he walks off and seemingly inspects the horizon from the platform.

    Incident at seas

    10th of August 1423
4:23 PM sharp, waters of Aftokratoria, near the oil spill site

It was a rather calm afternoon. The waves were slowly crawling up the beaches, almost no wind to feel. Yet the water splashing against the hull of the ship was audible to the whole crew of the Sekiyan RNS Destiny, a Holz Class Frigate. The whole reason it was there was to safeguard Aftokratorian waters and help with the oil spillage, with the crew thinking nothing much would happen. But they were there for a reason, a reason that will soon make itself known.

The radar was quiet, everyone was doing what they were assigned to do, many relaxing on deck. The captain of the Sekiyan RNS Destiny is checking over some papers in his office when a frantic knocking could be heard on the office door.
“Come in.” said the captain, “What’s the matter?”
The executive officer stepped into the office, heavily panting like he’d just ran a marathon.
“Sir, we spotted 2 unidentified military vessels approaching the location, *deep breath* we’ve sent up a recon helicopter already to see what comes of it. We presume they are vessels of Fauthurian nature!”
For a brief moment, it felt like silence shook the room. The captain stared into the eyes of the executive officer with intense seriousness. It felt like ages, but the captain finally came to word.
“Get everyone ready. I want immediate communication contact with these vessels.”
Without saying a word, both the captain and the executive officer hurried out of the office. One could feel the tense aura that was emitting from the captain. Just a minute later, the captain and a radio operator made contact with the vessels and the recon helicopter report came back positive for Fauthurian military vessels. They appeared to be 2 smaller offshore patrol vessels of the Grafen-Holmer Class, manufactured 1408, already in dire need for a refit.
With the vessels closing in about 20 kilometers (12,4 miles) away, radio connection was finally established and a heated, but still serious discussion could be heard from both sides. The Fauthurian vessels were advised to change course and leave the area multiple times, although they did not budge and remained steady on course. Meanwhile other radio operators called in backup from 2 nearby Czuleckian missile boats just 7 minutes out.

    4:35 PM
The Fauthurian vessels were now in line of sight, barely 6 kilometers out and at a full stop. Just like the RNS Destiny. The two vessels made themselves known as the UNFC Grafen-Holmer and the UNFC Ventig and were protesting on their right to be in these waters, claiming it’s international waters, although the navigations on the RNS Destiny stated it’s Aftokratorian territory.
Once more the Captain of the RNS Destiny, now backed up by the side of 2 Czuleckian missile boats, the CzWNS Eldheim and the CzWNS Fjellborg, advised the 2 Fauthurian vessels to turn back immediately, reason being they’re violating Aftokratorian waters. Failure to do so would result in warning shots.
Without a response, one of the Fauthurian vessels aimed its armament in the direction of the RNS Destiny. The RNS Destiny did the same, along with the two missile boats on standby and the Sekiyan Holz Class Frigate RNS Concorde also underway as backup, although too far away.
Suddenly, the captain of the UNFC Grafen-Holmer spoke on the radio.
“We have a right to travel through here. This is international waters and thus we are free to traverse along this path. We won’t have any remorse, nor hesitation to open fire unless you move out of our way and stop impeding our travels. We are simply following orders.”
It was immediately clear to everyone that this was a big threat, and no one is going anywhere. Although visibly angry and slightly panicked, the Captain of the RNS Destiny responded in a calm and peaceful manner, going with the diplomatic solution: “We both know that this is Aftokratorian waters, and you are violating said waters. Turn around this instant and there will be no further consequences and no harm done. If you plan on forcing your way through, we are also ready to respond with all means possible, as well as further backup arriving soon.”
Afterall, one could simply not let these Fauthurian vessels pass on Aftokratorian waters with everything that has happened. And that is why the RNS Destiny was here; to protect these waters.
A big suspense filled the air. What would happen next? Will there really be an engagement between the task forces? Guns are aimed, ranges found, and a lot of sailors scared or eager are waiting for what happens next. The water still splashing loudly against the hull, seemingly intensifying by the second.
Finally, the silence was broken with a stern voice coming through the radio again.
“We will give you 2 minutes. Let us pass or we will use lethal force. We will not be brought off course by a couple of idiots.”
A loud bang was heard, shaking the crew of both the RNS Destiny and the Czuleckian missile boats. The UNFC Grafen-Holmer fired a warning shot above the RNS Destiny.
“Hold your fire!” the intercom of the ship announced. “If they fire again, we will retaliate.”
The captain speaking through the radio to the Fauthurian vessels a last time.
“Turn around now and there will be no consequences! We can solve this peacefully, but if you fire again, we will be forced to retaliate with everything we have!”
With a loud and continuous creaking sound, the UNFC Venting now turned her turrets in the direction of one of the Czucleckian missile boats, the CzWNS Fjellborg.

    Around 4:41 PM
After another minute of suspense, the Fauthurian vessels began firing upon the taskforce of Sekiyan and Czuleckian vessels without warning in a near spectacular manner. Explosions after explosions and loud bangs, mixed with loud yelling of sailors mixed the air. It was now a life or death situation and everything was moving in a hurry. Shells flying overhead, missing towers and funnels by mere inches, panicked yells of terror echoed through all ships as an immediate distress signal was emitted from the RNS Destiny.
After two minutes of terror and ear defeaning banging, the shots of both sides stopped. “HOLD FIRE!” Was announced on all of the ships near simultaneously, just a second after a torpedo was mistakenly fired from the CzWNS Fjellborg in the direction of the UNFC Ventig due to a communication error, striking it amidships after a couple of seconds.
The captain of the UNFC Grafen-Holmer announced an immediate cease fire and disengagement, stating defeat and wanting to prevent the loss of life. But only really done to not be sunk themselves.
By a miracle almost no shots hit the RNS Destiny, nor its complement or the missile boats. It seemed the Fauthurian vessels had new crewmates on board or were deliberately missing shots. The Captain of the RNS Destiny immediately called in the cease fire and disengagement to a nearby naval base. Only 14 injured, no dead are the official numbers reported after a checkup.
Both the UNFC Ventig and the UNFC Grafen-Holmer had already turned around and are fleeing, with many losses, both of Fauthurian and Artingurian nature. The UNFC Ventig sailing behind the UNFC Grafen-Holmer with greatly reduced speed, listing badly to one side and a massive fire raging on board that still wasn’t contained.
After the situation had calmed down significantly, the captain of the RNS Destiny went back to his office and reported the happenings to higher staff immediately and with great urgency in his voice. The RNS Destiny would need to return to port to repair still, reason being that a part of the front mast was blown off, along with the CzWNS Fjellborg that sustained heavy damage on its bow as a result of a penetrating high explosive shot.

This incident would spark a new major fire on the already fragile situation between Aftokratoria and Fauthur, also possibly worsening relations with Sekiya and Czuleck in the process. The reaction may yet be seen but the government of Fauthur is keeping it secret from the public for now and censors any and all allegations and news reports of this incident.

Confidential - Chancellors Briefing on the situation near Aftokratoria
Chancellor Amelia Marcus is briefed by Rear Admiral Mina Graf of the Sekiyan Expeditionary Fleet that was sent to Aftokratoria and Czuleck last month. Also present is Grand Admiral Apsel Wolff and the Chief of Strategic Defence, Radulf Gantzmann.
Mina Graf: "Chancellor.. last weeks naval encounter is exactly why we need to send more ships. Operation Teilen is almost complete.. why not bring it forward by a few years?"
Gantzmann: "Chancellor I must protest. If we send such a large fleet up north It will leave our shores horribly undefended."
Marcus: "I see both of your points... Wolff, what is your opinion?"
Wolff: "Well.. I dont think we can bring forward Operation Teilen.. and Gantzmann is right, we can't leave our shores so defended."
Mina Graf: "But we have no enemies that could even reach Sekiya, let alone strike at our coast!"
Wolff: "Mina... I appreciate your enthusiasm as an Admiral and you have my respect for reaching your position at such a young age and you're an amazing naval commander... however there are things about geopolitics you just don't understand yet."
Gantzmann: "Wolff is right.. if we send more ships north, we're broadcasting to the world that Sekiya is ready for war... and frankly, we're not ready for a war if half of our navy is on the other side of the continent."
    Mina looked defeated
Marcus: "Thank you, gentlemen... However, just entertain me. What would our situation look like right now if we put Operation Teilen into affect now..?"
    Mina looked excited
    Mina Graf: "Well-"
    Mina looked defeated, again.
    Marcus: "I'm asking Gantzmann."
Gantzmann: "Well... The first problem is that we don't have a suitable base for the northern fleet. Additionally, we would currently need at least one, if not two more auxiliary ships to support this, however we have identified several nations we could purchase these vessels from."
Marcus: "So it would be a logistical nightmare then..?"
Gantzmann: "I'm afraid so.. We are still waiting on two more Holz-Class frigates to be laid down, however there have been significant delays in their construction. However, the two Cambric corvettes we ordered are well on the way and should be ready to sail in 5 months, however it's important to note it will take several months to train the crews for both of these vessels."
Marcus: "It's a shame... I wish we were three years ahead of where we are now..however we will have to work with what we have. Wolff, Is there any way of sending reinforcements to Aftokratoria..?"
Wolff: "I wouldn't recommend it at all.. however the RNS Castle's sister ship, the RNS Fortress could be sent, complimented by the frigate, RNS Enn. However, this leaves us with 1 destroyer, 3 frigates, 5 corvettes and 10 miscellaneous, dated missile craft."
Mina Graf: "And the RNS Bastion..?"
Wolff: "Realistically, at best the RNS Bastion is going to be out of commission for a year."
Marcus: "Mina.. I wish there was more we could do, however I just don't think we have the resources for this...Thank you everyone for the briefing on this matter, I will be following the issue closely. Gantzmann, I will be seeing you later for the briefing on the situation on Campa Simpatica?"
    Gantzmann: "Yes, Chancellor.. until then."
Marcus: "Mina.. stay for a minute, will you?"
    Gantzmann and Wolff leave.
    Mina Graf: "Yes.. Chancellor?"
Marcus sighs, wishing she could do more for the young Admiral.
Marcus: "Just know that.. I fully support your career in the navy, and I think in time, you will be one of the best in Sekiyan naval history.. however this time, there is sadly nothing we can do right now."
Mina Graf: "Thank you Chancellor.. I'm sorry I got heated earlier."
Marcus: "It's.. okay. Just stay focused on the expeditionary fleet for now, and I wish you safe travels back to the RNS Castle.

Flauschi918 reacted to Campa Simpatica in Uprising of the Second Campan Union
July 14, 1423, address on the Uprising of the Second Campan Union
    Summary
In April, on the 2nd, only about two months ago, a large group of very vocal protestors demanded a referendum yet again for Gran Blindaje independence, Diego Wright would then authorize the referendum, followed by Elena Carter. The vote lost with over 70% in favor of staying a part of Campa Simpatica, this failure was largely considered amounted to by the protesters' extreme left wing and authoritarian nature, calling to replicate the extreme government of the original Campan Union. This failure then would lead to the formation of the "Second Campan Union" in the South of Gran Blindaje with its capital and origin lying in Maria, a fairly rural land locked city. After gaining support in the city as well as near by cities, the revolution would spread and formally declare both independence and war on April 13th. The revolution would quickly spread through rural areas, giving the nation a small coastline in the East. The Gran Blindaje army began fighting the troops back, though it was a struggle as a lot of equipment had already been captured in the jungle areas. The rebellion would continue to expand through rural areas, but would become stuck in a stalemate once reaching the more prepared urbanized coastal areas. By this point, the rebellion roughly looked as it does in the image below.

The struggle would continue until the arrival of New Kalmachian forces which found much more luck in the liberation of Gran Blindaje, starting to push the forces back into the Southern jungles. It is believed that in desperation, the forces then invaded South trying to get enough valuable land to push back, however Artingur would quickly push these forces back as well, surrounding the the rebellion and leading to and even faster defeat on July 12th.
    Address of Elena Carter
Hello Simpaticans, we all hope you are all doing well and all who were injured are recovering. Me, as well as the other state and general organizers have been discussing what this all means for our nation and what actions should be taken. We are obviously going to be having many issues to vote on in the following elections so we recommend you all prepare for that if possible. One of the first questions we all want to figure out, how can we prevent this in the future? We have allowed protest, we have allowed referendum, and these did not work. We believe our only option left is increasing our military budget and modernizing our military. We want peace, we do not want this, but revolutionaries have forced our hand. We have no more freedoms to give them, we can not give them freedom by taking away the freedom of other Gran Blindaje inhabitants, so we must keep a military to protect this.
Furthermore, the "Second Campan Union" may not be our only threat to consider. Aftokratorian ships were found shipping weapons to the Second Campan Union. This is an unacceptable intervention from an already morally dubious nation. We will try to keep peace with both regimes, but we believe for the sake of both deterrence and if need be, we should vote in favor of a modern military, expect to see that in the elections soon.
Another issue is the rebellion's involvement in Artingur. Artigur is far from our enemy and we wish to keep it that way with further collaboration and compensation for what the rebellion did. We are considering allowing more influence in the P.A.N.L. Campa area due to its historic ties and cultural similarities. We ask that you all allow us to hold a vote in the region as to whether or not the region may gain Artingur influence. Keep in mind that this will not at all affect Campa Simpaticans outside the region, the state already runs completely autonomously while the N.Z. would still remain a sperate part without Artingur influence. We believe this is the best path towards compensating the Artingurans as occupation of Southern Gran Blindaje could lead to even more calls for revolution, allowing them to keep their freedoms should, hopefully, help them readapt to life in Campa Simpatica, and even if not, we should have our military if need be.

Flauschi918 reacted to Garahun in [Factbook] The Prince-Bishopric of Garahun
    The founding of Garahun

Garahun traces its origins back to the year 1036 when Iusmarite believers fleeing the Violetist Genocide in Kalmach established the city of Illegon. Previously they had lived on the Kalmachian island of Nordo, which they called Baradbakar. The Council of Illegon was tasked with determining the governance of the newly-formed nation. Although they had left behind the sacred stone pillars that once contained their laws, the council decided that Garahun would be led by an elected prince-bishop, chosen to represent the Great Ius and enforce the holy laws.

Flauschi918 reacted to New England-New Brunswick in [Factbook] The People's Confederation of Czuleck
    [Politics]

    Overview

Anarchist troops defending a local forum against government
    forces in 1383.

Unlike most governments, Czuleck operates as an Anarchist Confederation. Most of the country's power lay in the hands of ordinary citizens in the form of the communal forum. This decentralization has been a staple of politics for Czuleck ever since its founding. In addition to power decentralization, almost all forum on both local and regional levels use a form of consensus democracy to ensure all voices are heard when drafting, proposing, and passing legislation. Czuleck's society and political scene have been described as equitable ones, giving voices to all eligible citizens on issues affecting them, striving for a consensus on those very issues, and having a focus on a greater good/society as a whole in mind. Additionally, the nation practices many measures to ensure all citizens have some sort of say in local and national affairs. Participation is highly valued in Czulian society, as it builds the basis for all decisions made within the country, thus over the years many forums have made voting more accessible, such as with Edemocracy or with longer voting periods.

Because of having the focus on a greater good, ideology doesn't have much room to operate. There do exist political associations that focus on certain tendencies and issues. However, they don't hold nearly as much power as the political parties of other nations, and mainly focus on debating ideas of libertarian socialist, anarchist, and other far left ideas. The lack of power in associations/parties was done so to prevent consolidation of power, and has worked thus far. Associations serve as waystations for discussion and places to hear all ideas from large groups of citizens. Members are also free to be part of multiple parties, and along with other measures, these associations are kept in positions of lower power.
Czulian governance is divided into two sections: The Forums and Judiciary. The Forums act as the daily decision making bodies of all citizens, with multiple levels of forums including a national one, the People's Forum, and lower level divisions including the Communal Forum, Regional Forum, and Federation Forum. Judiciary wise, Czuleck practices the idea of "Community Panels", wherin a panel of peers discuss with criminals what they did, why it was wrong, and assign restorative justice measures such as community service or restitution. There is no executive branch within Czuleck, but the People's Forum contains what most would consider "ministries" called Committees. These committees advise, and with permission from the affected regions/localities, carry out decisions of the People's Forum.
    Constitution

Early photo of the constitutional draft session in Bundaberg in 1388

Since its founding, Czuleck went through a period of over a year to gather input on and ratify the constitution that would birth the confederation. The period of 1387-1388 was one of constant debate between varying parties and citizens who had ideas for the new constitution. Nationwide there were commune wide meetings to ensure all citizens could have a say in this process. These communal meetings had debates on whether anarchism would win the day, a socialist republic would follow, or even another chance at a democratic federation. After many considerations were made for the constitution, groups consulted, and elections held, the constitution that grants all citizens wide ranging freedoms was officially signed in 1388, which opted for a mixture between the ideas of Democratic Confederalism and Anarchism. Since its founding, the constitution has been amended to reflect the changing conditions of the country and the state of the world.

The constitution gives all citizens freedoms such as expression, religion, press, and much more. It also establishes precedent for not only the People's Forums and its powers, but also the founding forum committees, the military, and the court system. To amend the constitution requires a majority of the seven federations to support it, 60% of citizens across the confederation to agree, and a minimum of three months to attempt a consensus on the amendment as to ensure it has the most support among citizens. Similarly to legislation, all dissenting parties can write an official Announcement of Dissent, and it will be posted alongside the new amendment publicly. This will argue against the amendment, and offer solutions the populace could consider in the future.

    Subdivisions and Forums

Local town hall meeting occurring in the city of Bredby.

The smallest and most impactful subdivision for all residents is the Commune. Each Commune within Czuleck is geographically small, usually based around a town, and can range in the number of residents within greatly. Each commune has a decision making body comprised entirely of its citizen base, called a forum [Or town-forum if its located within a city area]. This body makes numerous decisions based on a vast amount of issues to work on, which in turn makes these bodies more relevant and important to the average citizen than regional or federation-level ones. This system of government acts like townhall meetings, with ideas and legislation proposed, reviewed, and agreed upon by citizens. Communal forums can handle matters such as tax, local educational curriculum, public programs/transportation, instituting cultural programs, and approval of local industrial projects.
The next level of decision-making is the Collective Region. These regions compose of multiple communes, primarily based on ones with similar cultural connections and backgrounds. Membership in the Collective Regional forums are mainly made up of elected delegates from Communal Forums, with each commune being apportioned delegates based off population. However, because communes and collective regions vary in population size, some collective region forums instead are made up of citizens from their communes, although instances of these are fleeting due to populational booms. Delegates to these forums discuss issues of communal resource allocation, unification of local cultural programs [if applicable to the Region], sustainable natural resource management, region-wide infrastructure coordination, and more. Collective Regions primarily exist to help coordinate efforts between communes on issues that are too small for national attention, and unify them in actions due to a similar regional background. However, Communal Forums still have the authority to accept or reject these plans.
Finally, there exists the Federation. Within Czuleck, there are seven federations that make up the entire nation. Each is based on geographical features, and contains numerous regions with diverse background within them. Delegates are elected via regional-wide voting, and members are apportioned to communes [or groups of them] depending on population size and elected by communal forums. Federation forums mainly have the focus of fostering higher level economic and social coordination. These can include large objectives for industrialization or working on the expansion of transportation infrastructure to different regions. They can act very autonomously, but still rely on the common support of both their respective regions and communes for actions. Generally, Federations sometimes are seen as their own independent nations within the confederation due to their diverse backgrounds.
The People's Forum is the main unifying organ of the People's Confederation. It consists of 350 elected members that proportionally represent the seven federations, all of which are elected in ranked choice voting. The only main requirement is for the member to be a citizen who is sixteen years of age or older, but a vast majority of the local forums have required candidates to establish connections with their local communities before running. There is also the ability to have recall elections if citizens feel their delegate(s) aren't truly representing their interests. The forum is designed to pass legislation to lead the Confederation with certain goals or programs, whilst handing responsibilities of carrying those goals out back down to the local level, although it can provide assistance with committees. This can include organizing infrastructure projects across the nation, starting vaccination drives in rural regions, or continuing existing welfare programs with new additions. Additional policy the People's Forum can work on include general defense of the nation, conducting foreign relations, and the approval of nation-wide budgets (after local insight of course). However, the implementation of such programs and how they're carried out is determined by the areas affected by them. In cases where resources are distributed to certain regions, those regions have the authority to distribute them further as they see fit.
All forums vary in their rules and regulations, but the People's Forum and a majority of lower level ones follow a few similar principles. Primarily, all forums, federation or commune wide, share a form of Consensus democracy: Consensus is achieved by having group elected facilitators discuss and identify points of contention. Through amendments and discussion, these points of contention are waded away. However, if contention still arises and is holding back the meeting, a 55% to pass vote can be initiated to pass whatever is tabled. Whilst most of the time the 55% to pass is used along with consensus procedures, the goal is to have legislation passed with more than 55% support. Another principle is the publication of articles of dissent and publication of what passed. Those who voted against or abstained the resolution(s) do have the ability to write articles in dissent of the bill, but must do so in a professional manner. These articles offer advice on what actions could be done in place of the decision, and other opinions on measures enacted. All passed resolutions or legislation material is also published to ensure all citizens are aware of what decisions were made, and spread via online news, flyers around population centers, and word of mouth.
Communal forums are able to oversight the People's Forum and other higher level forums by blocking their decisions with citizen approval, allocate resources to and from these Forums with taxes, initiate oversight boards on delegate conduct, open channels of negotiation if their community will be affected by People's Forum's legislation, implement committee development as they see fit and more. All of these actions are initiated by the citizenry. As the general goal of higher level forums is to coordinate activity between local communities, it was made important that communes are given the highest authority to act in their own best interests and be the most impactful assembly for citizens. Communes were designed to be the primary way of which policy is implemented, with higher up forums acting as ways to coordinate activity. However, this hasn't stopped multilateral coordination between communes from going on, and many communes, regions, and federations share dozens of projects with one another.

    Legal System/Community Panels

Community court in Akverfi discussing a case of labor law violations

In Czuleck, the law is based off of civil law. Laws are passed by the previously mentioned Forums and as such can change from time to time. Whilst there are confederation wide laws, these primarily only cover topics such as treason or ecological crimes. The vast majority of laws that apply to the regular citizen come from their own communal and collective regional forums. Due to the efforts of many treaties and negations, laws between federations are similar to one another, and sub-divisions assist one another if crimes cross their borders, such as if a robbery occurs in one commune and the thief flees to an adjacent commune. Laws also place emphasis rehabilitation. There is no death sentence in Czuleck, and the most a citizen can be charged with is 20 years in a rehabilitation/reintegration facility, however, other punishments include restitution towards victims, community service, and attendance of community integration programs. These facilities help mentor those who broke laws, and work towards identifying why they did it and providing them with training, coping mechanisms, and more to avoid breaking the law again. Families can visit inmates, they can seek higher education whilst in their facility, and can even work jobs outside of the facility if given proper oversight.
Community policing does exist within Czuleck. However, the process to becoming an officer requires hefty education, testimonial from peers, and formal training once inducted. Prospective candidates may apply to their Communal Safety Collective [CSCs for short], with initial requirements including: Being at least 20 years old, graduating secondary school but preference given to those with a post-secondary degree in the humanities, and being in good standing with the community via testimonial from peers. If the applicant is accepted, they can join a variety of roles, which primarily focus on De-Escalation but also include mental health counseling, crisis intervention specialists, and more. Training can vary, but generally includes one year of formal training and one year of probationary service, training in diffusing and De-Escalation, and bias training. Community police are not armed, but volunteer Community Defenseman [CDs] in liaison with their respective homeguard unit may receive firearms training incase of terror attack or violent action. The most an ordinary community policeman can carry is pepper spray or a taser.

Additionally, each Region and Federation has their own respective Saftey Collective that operates relatively similarly to communal ones. However, they are used less often, and only in cases of region or federation laws being broken, incidiences crossing multiple communes/regions, and during times of war. For Confederation wide policing, there exists a subcommittee within the Comittee on Defense and Emergency Management called the
“National Subcommittee of Investigation”. It operates like a standard intelligence bureau, albeit with more scrutiny from the populous, and has frequent oversight boards for both domestic/foreign operations. It is bound by a strict mandate to work only against foreign activity. Every month, the subcomittee meets with the oversight board to discuss actions and determine if the subcomittee has gone too far in its power. If so, this is reported to the people’s forum and proper action can be taken. The oversight board it made up of elected representatives across Czuleck, and are given training to identify any corruption of power. They are also allowed instructed to accept anonymous complaints from members of the subcomittee and can directly investigate matters if they are pressing. This Subcomittee only acts, however, if there is credible threat to Czuleck from a foreign entity, and has credibly intelligence that foreign activity is occurring within the nation. If such a threat exists, they can investigate the connections and make arrests if proper evidence is found for a trial. Additionally, they may pursue confederation wide crimes, but must work with local safety collectives to pursue leads and make arrests.

Rather than resort to courts, all offending citizens within Czuleck are referred to community panels to help determine what punishment/restorative justice method best suits what occurred. These panels are formed based around various crime topics, such as property ones or theft based activities, and take a holistic approach in reasoning what would be the best option for the offender. Membership on these panels is drawn directly and diversly from the commune's citizenry, with them electing a mediator, and feedback groups are also established to ensure accountability on part from these panels. Compromise often occurs in these panels, especially towards those who may have committed their first crime, and preference is made to avoid rehabilitative facilities when possible. However, in avoidance of these facilities, citizens that were found guilty still must attend classes to learn from what they did.

    Committees

Demonstration of community tolling programs by the Committee on
    Infrastructural Development.

Under the People's Forum exists committees to help coordinate and assist projects that occur within Czuleck. These committees act similar to foreign nation's ministries and departments, but are under the People's Forum instead of an executive branch. These committees not only give advice on how to implement bills under their focus, but also help with resource management of project, ensuring lasting change as a result, and general execution of plans. Members within the Committees that aren't on oversight boards are part of what is generally referred to as the "Civil Service" of Czuleck. Whether they are referred by communes/regions or test takers of the Civil Service Exam [CSE], they are members of Czulian society who help ensure changes are advised, worked on, and successfully implemented. Some roles part of this civil service include clerks, technical experts, diplomats [for Committee on Foreign Relations], engineers, and more. The system of civil service is considered some of the most important work Czulians can take on, especially when done on the communal level.

Committees consist of an oversight board to implement actions by the Forum, and are appointed from communal forum's suggestions to the People's Forum, and consist of those who have some level of higher education in the field they will be helping advise. Local Forums, like with regular members of the Forum, can recall members if their credibility is in question, implement programs differently, and work to compromise on implementation depending on local needs/wishes. Local Forums overall take precedent in the development of local projects. There are also committees in different communes and regions as well, helping to manage projects from the People's Forum and their respective forums. They usually follow a similar structure to the People's Forum, but are on a much smaller scale and consist of fewer members, with even additional committees formed or merged depending on local needs. Current committees in Forum include the following:
    -Committee on Foreign Relations
-Committee on Economic and Energy Affairs
    -Committee on Czuleck Culture
-Committee on Defense and Emergency Management
-Committee on Education, Research, and Technology
-Committee on Agricultural and Labour Relations
    -Committee on Environmental Sustainability
    -Committee on Health Services
    -Committee on Infrastructural Development

    Elections

Election in the capital of Bundaberg during the 1418 local flu epidemic

Within Czuleck, elections mainly happen for large regional forums, all federation forums, and the People's Forum for delegate spots. However, communes, collective regions, and federations have other elected roles on the ballots such as community police or those on local committees/boards. Other examples have included environmental coordinators, resource management experts, and a vast variety of different posts. Elections are held every three years and candidates are able to run a maximum of three terms. However, if the candidate can raise over 60% of a vote from their constituency, they are able to qualify for a fourth term, but that is the final term that they may have regardless of a fifth election's vote.
All citizens starting at the age of 16 are allowed to vote in communal forums, and participate in the election process for delegates of Collective Regional forums, federation forums, and the People's Forum. Additional requirements to vote include residency of 4 years [only for communal elections, citizenship is required for any higher decision making], and an ID made by the local commune, although the process of obtaining an ID is streamlined. These requirements also carry over for citizens wishing to run as a delegate, including the age limit of 16, although the youngest ever regional forum member was 19. Those under 16, however, are allowed into youth forums, wherein their feedback/voice is brought into their associated communal forums, regional forums and so on. Additionally, there have been apps developed to allow those who are sick/busy virtually vote on local issues in an attempt to bring Edemocracy to the confederation. Whilst partially successful, only a few larger communal  have implemented this option of voting. This is due to the fear of those hacking the software to influence Czuleck's democracy. However, in the cities that have implemented such a program, it has shown an increase in participation in the democratic system.

Candidates are still able to run for positions in a higher/lower office when term limited, but not the place they previously held. All elections are publicly funded, with advertisements with all candidates being completely free. Debates are also held frequently in campaign cycles to give citizens an idea of what candidates are proposing for their membership in upper level forums/posts. Voting in election starts two weeks prior and can be done in person, with a mailed ballot, or [in some cities] electronically. Those who miss the early voting deadline are able to vote on election day, with many cooperatives offering time and a half for those who cover shifts of citizens who haven't yet voted. For those who are sick or must be at home for both the early voting deadline and election day, the ballot box can be brought to them.
    Political Associations

    Flag of the Democratic Confederalists

Citizens within society, if they so choose, can be members of Political Associations. Rather than acting as political parties, these organizations are more decentralized, have no spot for leadership, and mainly exist to spur political debate. Whilst members of elected spots can be part of an association, many are part of two or more, and political associations are kept under heavy scrutiny in terms of finances, power accumulation, and more. Whilst there are hundreds of communal and Collective Regional political associations, there are five primary ones that have held consistent membership throughout the decades: The Mutualist Association, The Farmer-Labour Syndicalists, The Egoists, The Greens, and the Democratic Confederalists
The Mutalist Association, often associated with the color orange, has been a strong supporter of mutual aid movements around Czuleck, and even helped provide joint aid with other associations to Usta island. Along with being a proponent for mutual aid they support market anarchism, peace as an alternative, implementation of labour theory values, and generally the idea of voluntary exchange. The Farmer-Labour syndicalists, associated with red mixed with black, are the primary labour force in Czuleck. Their main issues concern the support of trade unionism, the establishment of cooperatives around the nation, the focus/assistance of anarchist/labour movements abroad, and the use of direct action for change. The Egoists, associated with the color blue, are the individualists of Czuleck. They support measures that encourage individuals to pursue what they desire, advocate for personal property, support voluntary associations in regards to self interest, and support the idea of the revolution of one's self. They've been some of the largest opponents to laws that aren't universally agreed upon, such as that of smoking.  The Greens, associated with the color green, are considered the tree-huggers of Czuleck. They have been the spearhead of many green, sustainable, and renewable movements across the nation. Their policies include conservation/sustainability/re-wilding, the preservation of species on the brink of extinction, the advocation of biocentrism, and even have some (although few) members who are anti-civilization. Finally, the Democratic Confederalists, given the color yellow, are the least anarchist of the bunch. Consisting of a large part of the nation, they support broad decentralization, multiculturalism, workers cooperatives/unions, Social Justice/Social Equity, Direct Democracy, internationalism and non-state governance.

Flauschi918 got a reaction from Giovanniland in The New West | A Fauthurian Newspaper
    Fauthur - 16th August 1423
    News report

Plans to build Goerg-Esch canal leading through Fauthur rumored to come into action coming November

As it was already clear that there is great potential to shorten the sea route around the west of Nur by building a canal leading through Fauthur on the thinnest point on the border to Campa Simpatica, some reports claim that the government wants to start construction of the Georg-Esch canal coming November. The mega project would be dubbed “Proijek Korban” (Project Korban) and would require a yet unknown, but huge sum of money to fund. The process of building the canal will span across several years until completion. Of course, beware it is just rumors but they sound promising. If the plans for the canal are indeed real, upon completion it will be a great help and boost to several economies in Nur and effectively shortening time for vessels.
Suspicious arrival at Fauthurian naval base
At approximately 11 PM on Sunday, anonymous sources witnessed a strange arrival of 2 Fauthurian naval vessels on the Albrecht naval base in Berklozt. Apparently, these vessels were identified as both the UNFC Grafen-Holmer and the UNFC Ventig, which was surprisingly burning amidships. Both ships looked like they were in an engagement prior to arriving back at base. Should we worry about that? What is the government trying to sweep under the rug? There is definetly something going on between our nation and the nation of Aftokratoria, and that may be our prove that there is more than meets the eye already.
But don’t forget, don’t believe everything you see on the news, we could be wrong afterall but we try our best to give you the most serene and informative articles possible.
Fauthurians and the problem with discrimination
Many times in history and in the modern day, there has always been a huge uproar in politicians making lifes worse for immigrants and tourists from abroad. New studies show, that the majority of the Fauthurian populace is not content with most tourists and immigrants in their near area. 58% of surveyed people claim that they are immediately hostile towards non native Fauthurians and don’t trust them. This is a rise of 3% in contrast to the last 2 years and is only getting worse; especially for individuals of Aftokratorian nature. The recent tensions have caused many incidents involving hostility towards Aftokratorians, even going as far as setting buildings with Aftokratorian residents alight in the night. Multiple affected people across the whole country state that it’s getting unbearable and are considering leaving the country for good before something even more serious happens. One man, who wants to keep anonymous said the following: “We just want to live here in peace. We can not control what happens on the political and international state. We can’t do anything about being Aftokratorian. Why are we getting targeted, insulted and even hit in broad daylight in the middle of the city? This is outrageous and I just can not understand why people do it. Again, I can only say that we want to live in peace and we can not do anything at all about what’s happening. My wife and I are done with this treatment and we want to leave the country soon. It’s a shame really, we liked the landscapes and before the whole political ordeal, people were still nice to us. Our neighbors came over every sunday for some cake and coffee but now they won’t even talk to us and ignore us.”

This is very concerning for many people across Esferos and majorly for Aftokratoria. We ask of you to maybe overthink your choices and be nicer to people. Especially those who come from abroad to make everyone have a nice and fun time. We don’t want to be seen as the most hateful people on Nur after all.

Flauschi918 got a reaction from Pixel3K in Political Dilemma between Aftokratoria and Fauthur
    February 16th 1423 - The Cause

At a public speech this afternoon, Head of Government, Kerglom Hafth got into a heated discussion with an audience member at his monthly public speech in the West West Fauthur Halls, where he loudly exclaimed that: "Aftokratoria will not be recognised as a part of the Nuran continent, and never will. It is simply situated too far north of that it would ever be recognised as a Nuran state, and should therefore not particiapte in our politics." This was not well received by the audience, aswell as fellow politicians as this part of the speech was uploaded to social media in just a couple of minutes, sparking a "shitstorm" on the web with several people not being satisfied of Hafth's actions. Furthermore, Hafth openly defended his words, not trying to diffuse the situation. This is seen as a international statement to Aftokratoria which could cause massive backlash upon the government or even the country. A lot of effort is being made as to cover up this incident but it is already too widespread to do anything about it. Hafth already has several scandals behind his back even before the candidacy for Head of Government. For example, Hafth has once been caught spreading lies about the then current government which was not successful. The other time he tried to rig elections in favor of a center right politician who was promptly discharged from his position as a politician and permanently disbarred from participating in any political actions. It is, as honest as we say it, a small wonder Hafth even got to where he is today, stating that he's bettered himself from back in the day, which, as we see today, is not true as he is starting to reveal his true nature once again.

There has not been an official response from the government of Fauthur, nor the government of Aftokratoria on this incident yet. And it doesn't seem as though Hafth will receive any consequences, but future will see. The public of course hopes that the Aftokratorian government does indeed not take this seriously but as Hafth said it, this matter may be more pressing and serious than we think, as it is in fact an official statement made by him, the Head of Government.

February 27th, 1423 – Official Statement of Fauthurian Government

A few days have passed since the response of the Aftokratorian populace. The Aftokratorian government still hasn't come out with a statement and the riots are not stopping anytime soon. The Fauthurian citizens also are worrying about relations to Aftokratoria, seeing that they have been recently freed by the oppression of the old government, they want to maintain the peace within Nur as much as possible. The Fauthurian government took matters into their own hands and gave the populace of both nations a statement.

The Statement reads that from the side of the Head of Government, Kerglom Hafth, there has not been any repercussion at all. Hafth has not given in and is staying stubborn and defends his opinion as much as he can, saying: "The Aftokratorian people getting mad at us for such a little matter like this goes to show what hypocrites they are harbouring in that nowhere place of a barbaric island nation! They have no right insulting us Fauthurians and should keep their mouths shut. We will not recognise them as a nation of Nur, nor, in my opinion should we keep open any of those trade relations or even travel. Cut all that off I say! They want to insult us, they want to dispose of us? Then they shall have at us, but if they do, we will retaliate to the fullest extend and not hold back at any minute."

Whileas this sparked a huge controversy across both countries, the people of Nur are clearly infuriated with Hafth's actions but many also seem to agree, looking at the situation. While we are awaiting responses from Aftokratorias side, the Fauhturian government, apart from Hafth, have shown clear discomfort with the situation and almost all politicians are avoiding speaking about it at all costs. The government has fallen silent, thus taking no real stance and letting Hafth do his thing, as the people get angrier and more scared for the relations between the two countries and possibly even international backlash. The only thing stopping Hafth's words are the failed votes of cutting off relations and trade, or even travel. It is clear that the government is acting against it, in silence.

West Fauthur Central Radio Evening broadcast introductionary program
West Fauthur Central Radio 8PM sharp

Moderator 1 (Lehan): Good Evening Fauthur! You're tuned in to West Fauthur Central Radio – Evening!, your source for all the latest news, updates, and of course, music. I'm Lehan, and joining me today is our esteemed colleague, Iltip. How are you today, Iltip?

Moderator 2 (Iltip): Good Evening Lehan! I'm doing well, thank you. It's great to be here, especially given the current state of affairs between Fauthur and Aftokratoria. We have a major incident to discuss today. To make things more urgent, it is BREAKING NEWS, Lehan!

Lehan: Absolutely, Iltip. As we all know, the tensions between Fauthur and Aftokratoria seem to be reaching new heights each day with all the pollitical drama and stuff. We've just received a report about a incident that's sure to add fuel to the fire.

Iltip: Literally! Reports indicate that five Fauthurian vessels, still unidentified, deliberately entered Aftokratorian waters earlier today and Shockingly dumped hundreds of barrels of oil into the waters. To make things worse, the zone they dumped the oil in was designated to be a protected natural habitat! Dear listeners, this is a MAJOR slap in the face, straining the fragile situation between Fauthur and Aftokratoria even more.

Lehan: Unbelievable! These actions will surely stick around for a while. Aftokratorian coastal defense forces have swooped in to respond. They wasted no time in taking the sailors on board those Fauthurian vessels into custody. It's important to remember that these sailors are Fauthurian citizens as well! No one except the coastal defense forces and maybe their ministry knows wht’s being done with these sailors and their vessels! We still have not received any updates nor statements on that matter. But still, you gotta say, It’s not been that long ago. In fact, this incident occurred around 3 hours ago! Their Coastal Defense is probably still cleaning up the mess these sailors made.

Iltip: Indeed, Lehan. This incident raises concerns not just about the environment but also about the potential escalation of hostilities. It remains to be seen how our government will respond to their citizens being held captive by Aftokratorian authorities.

Lehan: Absolutely, Iltip. The tension between the two nations has already led to protests and calls for peace from the public. This incident will undoubtedly intensify those sentiments or even make them worse. We can only hope that both governments take these calls seriously and work towards a peaceful resolution. We do not want a war in the worst case! No one wants that.

Illtip: Well said. It's crucial for Fauthur and Aftokratoria to prioritize dialogue and find common ground. The longer this animosity persists, the greater the risk of a full-blown conflict that could have devastating consequences for our country or even others.

Lehan: Now, it appears that our introductionary time frame is running a bit low. Let's move on to some traffic updates to keep our listeners informed. We have multiple incidents reported across the capital this morning. Firstly, there's heavy congestion Westbound on the A6 leading to Ibbenhausen, due to a multi-vehicle collision near the Lemko-District exit. Reportedly, a semi veered off the right lane into the left lane of traffic, striking a sedan. This followed into a huge wreck where multiple vehicles coud not break in time and piled up. There are a total of 8 vehicles involved. It has yet to be seen how many people are injured or even dead. Meanwhile, Emergency services are on the scene and the left lane has reopened, but major delays are expected, so please plan your commute accordingly.

Iltip: Let’s hope no one is injured. In addition to that, we have reports of a wrong-way driver on the A19 Northbound in direction to North Capital Helpe-District. Authorities are responding to the situation, but it's essential for all drivers to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings.

Lehan: Thank you for the update, Iltip. Fauthurians, let's stay safe on the roads and remain vigilant. Remember, if you're stuck in traffic or need some calming tunes, we've got you covered with our next song. Up next, we have "Sunset Serenade" by the talented Fauthurian artist, Oliva Rehkle. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the music while we continue to monitor the latest developments and keep you informed here on West Fauthur Central Radio.

Iltip: That's right. Stay tuned, Fauthur! We'll be right back after the music with more news, updates, and the best music on the airwaves.
