Political Dilemma between Aftokratoria and Fauthur

Recommended Posts

February 16th 1423 - The Cause

At a public speech this afternoon, Head of Government, Kerglom Hafth got into a heated discussion with an audience member at his monthly public speech in the West West Fauthur Halls, where he loudly exclaimed that: "Aftokratoria will not be recognised as a part of the Nuran continent, and never will. It is simply situated too far north of that it would ever be recognised as a Nuran state, and should therefore not particiapte in our politics." This was not well received by the audience, aswell as fellow politicians as this part of the speech was uploaded to social media in just a couple of minutes, sparking a "shitstorm" on the web with several people not being satisfied of Hafth's actions. Furthermore, Hafth openly defended his words, not trying to diffuse the situation. This is seen as a international statement to Aftokratoria which could cause massive backlash upon the government or even the country. A lot of effort is being made as to cover up this incident but it is already too widespread to do anything about it. Hafth already has several scandals behind his back even before the candidacy for Head of Government. For example, Hafth has once been caught spreading lies about the then current government which was not successful. The other time he tried to rig elections in favor of a center right politician who was promptly discharged from his position as a politician and permanently disbarred from participating in any political actions. It is, as honest as we say it, a small wonder Hafth even got to where he is today, stating that he's bettered himself from back in the day, which, as we see today, is not true as he is starting to reveal his true nature once again.

There has not been an official response from the government of Fauthur, nor the government of Aftokratoria on this incident yet. And it doesn't seem as though Hafth will receive any consequences, but future will see. The public of course hopes that the Aftokratorian government does indeed not take this seriously but as Hafth said it, this matter may be more pressing and serious than we think, as it is in fact an official statement made by him, the Head of Government.

February 23rd, 1423 - Initial Response

With elections approaching, the current most popular candidate by a landslide, Otto Kracy, has gained more support that ever before after Fauthurian politician, Kerglom Hafth, stated that “Aftokratoria will not be recognized as part of the Nuran continent, and never will''. Standing on the platform of proving to the world that Aftokratoria deserves more than any other country to be part of Nur, but that Aftokratoria could stand alone if it wanted to, Mr. Kracy has made a giant leap in the polls, from 60% to 80% popularity.

Public support for this view has never been higher, with Aftokratorian nationalism at an all-time peak. Voters on all sides of the spectrum have agreed with the general consensus, as Otto Kracy’s relatively new party has campaigned towards the left as well as the right wing, uniting differing political views for the cause of making Aftokratoria known.

Mr. Kracy, who at times has claimed to be of a left-wing ideology, at others a right-wing ideology, as well as on the centre of the political spectrum, has perfectly represented how the majority of citizens have reacted to Kerglom Hafth’s opinion in his speeches: Anger, frustration, and outright fury. In the cities of Oreinos and Notosia, large protests with over 100 people have sparked, making some citizens of Fauthurian descent considering moving back.

“I fear for the safety of my family, and other Fauthurian Aftokrators.” said Notosia resident, Xeno Politis. “It has revealed the extent to which some of my neighbours are willing to go to just for a political opinion”.

On the other hand, Ethniko Katoikos, a native Aftokratorian citizen who has been very publicly open on his view regarding this topic of debate, said

“Mr. Hafth, and all his supporters in Fauthur have clearly shown that they hate us Aftokrators! “They despise our great nation, that is obvious. Kerglom Hafth was elected with over 75% of the vote, and has not tried to hide his anti-Aftokratorian views. Think of it this way, if someone said they would burn your house if they could, would you be angry? Yes, yes you would”.

Public opinion is split, with nearly every person being strongly towards one side or the other. The vast majority is for fighting back against Mr. Hafth and the Fauthurians, but there are still many who are strongly against it.

The federal response has been mostly abstaining from making an official statement, but the few comments select politicians and government workers have made imply that Igetis Foveros, the current Prime Minister of Aftokratoria, is worried about foreign relations with Fauthur crumbling.

February 27th, 1423 – Official Statement of Fauthurian Government

A few days have passed since the response of the Aftokratorian populace. The Aftokratorian government still hasn't come out with a statement and the riots are not stopping anytime soon. The Fauthurian citizens also are worrying about relations to Aftokratoria, seeing that they have been recently freed by the oppression of the old government, they want to maintain the peace within Nur as much as possible. The Fauthurian government took matters into their own hands and gave the populace of both nations a statement.

The Statement reads that from the side of the Head of Government, Kerglom Hafth, there has not been any repercussion at all. Hafth has not given in and is staying stubborn and defends his opinion as much as he can, saying: "The Aftokratorian people getting mad at us for such a little matter like this goes to show what hypocrites they are harbouring in that nowhere place of a barbaric island nation! They have no right insulting us Fauthurians and should keep their mouths shut. We will not recognise them as a nation of Nur, nor, in my opinion should we keep open any of those trade relations or even travel. Cut all that off I say! They want to insult us, they want to dispose of us? Then they shall have at us, but if they do, we will retaliate to the fullest extend and not hold back at any minute."

Whileas this sparked a huge controversy across both countries, the people of Nur are clearly infuriated with Hafth's actions but many also seem to agree, looking at the situation. While we are awaiting responses from Aftokratorias side, the Fauhturian government, apart from Hafth, have shown clear discomfort with the situation and almost all politicians are avoiding speaking about it at all costs. The government has fallen silent, thus taking no real stance and letting Hafth do his thing, as the people get angrier and more scared for the relations between the two countries and possibly even international backlash. The only thing stopping Hafth's words are the failed votes of cutting off relations and trade, or even travel. It is clear that the government is acting against it, in silence.

May 2nd, 1423 - Aftokratorian Federal Election Results Report

Nea Dimosiografos: “Good evening Aftokratoria, I’m Nea Dimosiografos, and this is Aftokratorian News at 6:00 - 1423 election edition. Today is Tuesday, May 2nd, and the temperature is currently 12 degrees above 0. Today we will be reviewing the federal election results. So for that report, let’s go to Kalpi Eklogi”

Kalpi Eklogi: “Thanks Nea. Well, unsurprisingly Otto Kracy, leader of the Aftokratorian Party, won with 75.9% of the votes, over Igetis Foveros, the former Prime Minister, who ended up with 16.4%. The minute midnight struck, and enough votes had been counted that it was impossible for Otto to lose, he began his celebration speech in front of a huge crowd of supporters in Omoskratia. The first thing he addressed was that since he would now be head of government, his response to Kerglom Hafth, an anti-Aftokratorian politician from Fauthur, would be the official one. Mr. Kracy then yelled “F*ck Kerglom Hafth! Let Aftokratoria rule supreme!”, which was met with an uproar of support.”

Nea Dimosiografos: “Interesting. Have either Mr. Kracy or Mr. Foveros made any responses this morning?”

Kalpi Eklogi: “While on one hand, Otto Kracy has made many Twittur posts, calling out his foes such as Igetis Foveros and Kerglom Hafth as well as post simply celebrating, but Igetis has not said anything since his short farewell speech last night. This would break his streak of posting every day since the beginning of his campaign in 1418. Our associates here at ANBC did reach out to both of those main candidates, but Otto understandably had many other press conferences taking up his time, and Igetis simply did not respond. In fact, Mr. Kracy went as far as to call his supporters “enlightened voters”, in his first celebratory post this morning. In the same tweet, he took a little snap at the Fauthurians, who have been one of his main enemies in his campaign since February 16th when Kerglom Hafth first displayed his hate for Aftokratoria.”

Nea Dimosiografos: “Well that certainly is a bold statement Kalpi. So when can we expect to see the official transition into office?”

Kalpi Eklogi: “That date has not been announced yet, but most likely before May 20th. Though, considering the personality and past actions of Otto, he will probably try his best to make it as soon as possible, maybe even by May 10th. The leader of the Aftokratorian Party has even implied in another Twittur post that he has already begun pre-packing to move into the official Prime Minister’s housing office."

Nea Dimosiografos: “Thanks Kalpi. You can see Mr. Kracy’s tweets on our website, where was have uploaded this report as an article, with images. Thank you for listening, and we will be back with more political reports at 6:30”

13th June 1423, 8PM sharp

West Fauthur Central Radio Evening broadcast introductionary program

West Fauthur Central Radio 8PM sharp

Moderator 1 (Lehan): Good Evening Fauthur! You're tuned in to West Fauthur Central Radio – Evening!, your source for all the latest news, updates, and of course, music. I'm Lehan, and joining me today is our esteemed colleague, Iltip. How are you today, Iltip?

Moderator 2 (Iltip): Good Evening Lehan! I'm doing well, thank you. It's great to be here, especially given the current state of affairs between Fauthur and Aftokratoria. We have a major incident to discuss today. To make things more urgent, it is BREAKING NEWS, Lehan

Lehan: Absolutely, Iltip. As we all know, the tensions between Fauthur and Aftokratoria seem to be reaching new heights each day with all the pollitical drama and stuff. We've just received a report about a incident that's sure to add fuel to the fire.

Iltip: Literally! Reports indicate that five Fauthurian vessels, still unidentified, deliberately entered Aftokratorian waters earlier today and Shockingly dumped hundreds of barrels of oil into the waters. To make things worse, the zone they dumped the oil in was designated to be a protected natural habitat! Dear listeners, this is a MAJOR slap in the face, straining the fragile situation between Fauthur and Aftokratoria even more.

Lehan: Unbelievable! These actions will surely stick around for a while. Aftokratorian coastal defense forces have swooped in to respond. They wasted no time in taking the sailors on board those Fauthurian vessels into custody. It's important to remember that these sailors are Fauthurian citizens as well! No one except the coastal defense forces and maybe their ministry knows wht’s being done with these sailors and their vessels! We still have not received any updates nor statements on that matter. But still, you gotta say, It’s not been that long ago. In fact, this incident occurred around 3 hours ago! Their Coastal Defense is probably still cleaning up the mess these sailors made.

Iltip: Indeed, Lehan. This incident raises concerns not just about the environment but also about the potential escalation of hostilities. It remains to be seen how our government will respond to their citizens being held captive by Aftokratorian authorities.

Lehan: Absolutely, Iltip. The tension between the two nations has already led to protests and calls for peace from the public. This incident will undoubtedly intensify those sentiments or even make them worse. We can only hope that both governments take these calls seriously and work towards a peaceful resolution. We do not want a war in the worst case! No one wants that

Illtip: Well said. It's crucial for Fauthur and Aftokratoria to prioritize dialogue and find common ground. The longer this animosity persists, the greater the risk of a full-blown conflict that could have devastating consequences for our country or even others.

Lehan: Now, it appears that our introductionary time frame is running a bit low. Let's move on to some traffic updates to keep our listeners informed. We have multiple incidents reported across the capital this morning. Firstly, there's heavy congestion Westbound on the A6 leading to Ibbenhausen, due to a multi-vehicle collision near the Lemko-District exit. Reportedly, a semi veered off the right lane into the left lane of traffic, striking a sedan. This followed into a huge wreck where multiple vehicles coud not break in time and piled up. There are a total of 8 vehicles involved. It has yet to be seen how many people are injured or even dead. Meanwhile, Emergency services are on the scene and the left lane has reopened, but major delays are expected, so please plan your commute accordingly.

Iltip: Let’s hope no one is injured. In addition to that, we have reports of a wrong-way driver on the A19 Northbound in direction to North Capital Helpe-District. Authorities are responding to the situation, but it's essential for all drivers to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings

LehanThank you for the update, Iltip. Fauthurians, let's stay safe on the roads and remain vigilant. Remember, if you're stuck in traffic or need some calming tunes, we've got you covered with our next song. Up next, we have "Sunset Serenade" by the talented Fauthurian artist, Oliva Rehkle. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the music while we continue to monitor the latest developments and keep you informed here on West Fauthur Central Radio.

Iltip: That's right. Stay tuned, Fauthur! We'll be right back after the music with more news, updates, and the best music on the airwaves.

Oil spill near Usta Island affecting thousands

Published June 14th 1423

In what is considered one of the worst environmental disasters since the rapid militarization campaign pushed by former dictator Colonel Lewibar, the Home Guard station of Usta Island has reported a catastrophic oil spill off the coast affecting not only the nation of Czuleck, but that of Aftokratoria as well. What is worse is that reports indicate this was done deliberately by those acting on behalf of Fauthur.

A report issued by Usta Island Home Guard Coordinator Fardhe Odenberg indicates that the small island, inhabited by 13,723 civilians, has been thrust into chaos. The local economy that was once based on local fisheries has been catastrophically damaged. Shipping to the island has been halted as well, causing supply chains to be disrupted and prompting airlifts to occur.

In previous months, the leader of Fauthur, Kerglom Hafth, has accused Aftokratoria of not being part of the Nur continent, insisting it is too far north to be truly considered as such. Although being without support from his own government, Hafth has continued to bombard Aftokratoria with threats and insults, even going as far as proposing legislation to cut trade between the two nations. However this plan was voted down by lawmakers, even by some in the same party as Hafth.

During this time of contention, Czuleck has stayed out of the debate all together. Whilst local town and communal councils have voiced support for Aftokratoria, the people's forum has notably voted down any motions to offically pick sides in this fued. That was until yesterday's action of oil dumping near Usta Island.

The People's Forum convened the previous night in an emergency session, and spend most of the morning drafting and voting on a resolution to address the crisis. In a unanimous vote, the forum has formally activated, with permission from the communal councils, the Usta Island and adjacent commune of Oplistan's Home Guard units. Furthermore, the Czulian navy has been deployed to assist with cleanup operations, and ensure no Fauthur ship is to enter Czuleck's waters without permission.

The forum has additionally cut all trade relations with Fauthur in protest, condemned the nation for its "wanton destruction", and has forbade any Fauthurian ships to enter Czuleck's waters unless specifically present with migrants or to assist in cleanup operations. Numerous civilian ships were called up to assist with cleaning as well, however, the call surprisingly was far reaching.

Civilians from around Czuleck have travelled to assist with the process. From small canoes to larger fishing vessels, citizens have come together to protect the environment and help all of those affected. Although it is projected to take weeks and maybe months to clean the area up, the citizens present have shown dedication in spite of insurmountable odds.

"Our nation was formed on the basis of helping one another out," said Aimée Eklund, a captain of a small fishing boat. "I can't stand to see our people suffering and not take action." Not only have those like Eklund volunteered their ships for use, but food drives have sparked across the northern Communes closest to Usta. Centers have been set up to collect donations and airlift them to the island.

Although a developing and complex matter, citizens across Czuleck have shown what true unity can bring to the table. Whether more donation centers spring up or more action is taken by the Forum remains to be seen.

Press Release

1423 State Visit to Aftokratoria & Usta Crisis Summit.

Amelia Marcus, Chancellor of Sekiya, visits Aftokratoria & attends a regional summit in response to the recent oil spill incident in the region.

From: Office of the Chancellor and Secretary of the Chancellor

Published: 09/07/1423

Location: Aftokratoria

Earlier this week, Chancellor Amelia Marcus made a state visit to Aftokratoria to meet with recently elected Prime Minister Otto Kracy. Following the Usta Island Oil spill, it was then announced that the Chancellor would also be attending an emergency summit in the Aftokratorian Capital, Evimeronia, with Otty Kracy and a delegation from the People's forum of Czuleck.

On the first day, the chancellor flew into the airport of Gatankri, a large city next to Evimeronia. After spending some personal time in Gatankri, the Chancellor then traveled to Evimeronia, where she greeted Otto Kracy and several other officials from the Aftokratorian government. Several things were discussed, including trade opportunities, renewable energy investments and further cooperation.

The two then traveled to meet the Czulian delegation for the summit regarding the recent incident involving Fauthur. The three leaders discussed ways of dealing with the oil spill and countering further offences from Fauthur, however Sekiya declined to support a full embargo against Fauthur.

Following several hours of discussion, it was later announced that Sekiya will dedicating a small fleet to the region, for a minimum service of a year. Destroyer RNS Castle, supported by two frigates RNS Destiny & RNS Concorde will act as a deterrent to further trespasses.

Additionally, the auxiliary ship RNS Mercy will assist in relocating those most affected by the disaster, providing logistical support, and acting as a scientific research base to investigate the greater extent of the issue.

RFA Argus (A135) - Wikipedia

The chancellor then gave the following speech, before the close of the conference.

Quote

"I am deeply troubled to hear about the provocations made towards our friends in Aftokratoria & Czuleck from Fauthur. This act has had an irreversible affect on the local environment that will pollute these waters for generations to come. Not only has this affected Marine Life, but it has affected hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, that live near the affected area.

The Republic of the United Provinces of Sekiya stands united behind Aftokratoria & Czuleck, and we will do our duty to Esferos in taking further steps to protect these waters from further destruction."

Following the conclusion of the summit, the chancellor then spent several days in the city of Voreivikost, before returning to Sekiya.

Incident at seas

10th of August 1423

4:23 PM sharp, waters of Aftokratoria, near the oil spill site

It was a rather calm afternoon. The waves were slowly crawling up the beaches, almost no wind to feel. Yet the water splashing against the hull of the ship was audible to the whole crew of the Sekiyan RNS Destiny, a Holz Class Frigate. The whole reason it was there was to safeguard Aftokratorian waters and help with the oil spillage, with the crew thinking nothing much would happen. But they were there for a reason, a reason that will soon make itself known.

The radar was quiet, everyone was doing what they were assigned to do, many relaxing on deck. The captain of the Sekiyan RNS Destiny is checking over some papers in his office when a frantic knocking could be heard on the office door.

“Come in.” said the captain, “What’s the matter?”

The executive officer stepped into the office, heavily panting like he’d just ran a marathon.

“Sir, we spotted 2 unidentified military vessels approaching the location, *deep breath* we’ve sent up a recon helicopter already to see what comes of it. We presume they are vessels of Fauthurian nature!”

For a brief moment, it felt like silence shook the room. The captain stared into the eyes of the executive officer with intense seriousness. It felt like ages, but the captain finally came to word.

Get everyone ready. I want immediate communication contact with these vessels.”

Without saying a word, both the captain and the executive officer hurried out of the office. One could feel the tense aura that was emitting from the captain. Just a minute later, the captain and a radio operator made contact with the vessels and the recon helicopter report came back positive for Fauthurian military vessels. They appeared to be 2 smaller offshore patrol vessels of the Grafen-Holmer Class, manufactured 1408, already in dire need for a refit.

With the vessels closing in about 20 kilometers (12,4 miles) away, radio connection was finally established and a heated, but still serious discussion could be heard from both sides. The Fauthurian vessels were advised to change course and leave the area multiple times, although they did not budge and remained steady on course. Meanwhile other radio operators called in backup from 2 nearby Czuleckian missile boats just 7 minutes out.

4:35 PM

The Fauthurian vessels were now in line of sight, barely 6 kilometers out and at a full stop. Just like the RNS Destiny. The two vessels made themselves known as the UNFC Grafen-Holmer and the UNFC Ventig and were protesting on their right to be in these waters, claiming it’s international waters, although the navigations on the RNS Destiny stated it’s Aftokratorian territory.

Once more the Captain of the RNS Destiny, now backed up by the side of 2 Czuleckian missile boats, the CzWNS Eldheim and the CzWNS Fjellborg, advised the 2 Fauthurian vessels to turn back immediately, reason being they’re violating Aftokratorian waters. Failure to do so would result in warning shots.

Without a response, one of the Fauthurian vessels aimed its armament in the direction of the RNS Destiny. The RNS Destiny did the same, along with the two missile boats on standby and the Sekiyan Holz Class Frigate RNS Concorde also underway as backup, although too far away.

Suddenly, the captain of the UNFC Grafen-Holmer spoke on the radio.

We have a right to travel through here. This is international waters and thus we are free to traverse along this path. We won’t have any remorse, nor hesitation to open fire unless you move out of our way and stop impeding our travels. We are simply following orders.”

It was immediately clear to everyone that this was a big threat, and no one is going anywhere. Although visibly angry and slightly panicked, the Captain of the RNS Destiny responded in a calm and peaceful manner, going with the diplomatic solution: “We both know that this is Aftokratorian waters, and you are violating said waters. Turn around this instant and there will be no further consequences and no harm done. If you plan on forcing your way through, we are also ready to respond with all means possible, as well as further backup arriving soon.”

Afterall, one could simply not let these Fauthurian vessels pass on Aftokratorian waters with everything that has happened. And that is why the RNS Destiny was here; to protect these waters.

A big suspense filled the air. What would happen next? Will there really be an engagement between the task forces? Guns are aimed, ranges found, and a lot of sailors scared or eager are waiting for what happens next. The water still splashing loudly against the hull, seemingly intensifying by the second.

Finally, the silence was broken with a stern voice coming through the radio again.
“We will give you 2 minutes. Let us pass or we will use lethal force. We will not be brought off course by a couple of idiots.”

A loud bang was heard, shaking the crew of both the RNS Destiny and the Czuleckian missile boats. The UNFC Grafen-Holmer fired a warning shot above the RNS Destiny

“Hold your fire!” the intercom of the ship announced. “If they fire again, we will retaliate.

The captain speaking through the radio to the Fauthurian vessels a last time.

“Turn around now and there will be no consequences! We can solve this peacefully, but if you fire again, we will be forced to retaliate with everything we have!”

With a loud and continuous creaking sound, the UNFC Venting now turned her turrets in the direction of one of the Czucleckian missile boats, the CzWNS Fjellborg

Around 4:41 PM

After another minute of suspense, the Fauthurian vessels began firing upon the taskforce of Sekiyan and Czuleckian vessels without warning in a near spectacular manner. Explosions after explosions and loud bangs, mixed with loud yelling of sailors mixed the air. It was now a life or death situation and everything was moving in a hurry. Shells flying overhead, missing towers and funnels by mere inches, panicked yells of terror echoed through all ships as an immediate distress signal was emitted from the RNS Destiny

After two minutes of terror and ear defeaning banging, the shots of both sides stopped. “HOLD FIRE!” Was announced on all of the ships near simultaneously, just a second after a torpedo was mistakenly fired from the CzWNS Fjellborg in the direction of the UNFC Ventig due to a communication error, striking it amidships after a couple of seconds.

The captain of the UNFC Grafen-Holmer announced an immediate cease fire and disengagement, stating defeat and wanting to prevent the loss of life. But only really done to not be sunk themselves

By a miracle almost no shots hit the RNS Destiny, nor its complement or the missile boats. It seemed the Fauthurian vessels had new crewmates on board or were deliberately missing shots. The Captain of the RNS Destiny immediately called in the cease fire and disengagement to a nearby naval base. Only 14 injured, no dead are the official numbers reported after a checkup.

Both the UNFC Ventig and the UNFC Grafen-Holmer had already turned around and are fleeing, with many losses, both of Fauthurian and Artingurian nature. The UNFC Ventig sailing behind the UNFC Grafen-Holmer with greatly reduced speed, listing badly to one side and a massive fire raging on board that still wasn’t contained

After the situation had calmed down significantly, the captain of the RNS Destiny went back to his office and reported the happenings to higher staff immediately and with great urgency in his voice. The RNS Destiny would need to return to port to repair still, reason being that a part of the front mast was blown off, along with the CzWNS Fjellborg that sustained heavy damage on its bow as a result of a penetrating high explosive shot.

This incident would spark a new major fire on the already fragile situation between Aftokratoria and Fauthur, also possibly worsening relations with Sekiya and Czuleck in the process. The reaction may yet be seen but the government of Fauthur is keeping it secret from the public for now and censors any and all allegations and news reports of this incident.

Oil spill near Usta Island affecting thousands

CzWNS Eldheim, a Aldingan Class Missile Boat out on patrol near Usta Island prior to the provocation.

In a recent escalation to the previous oil spill near Usta Island, a skirmish at sea has occurred between Fauthur and the navies of Czuleck and Sekiya. Whilst no personnel have been reported dead, tens were wounded on both sides and CzWNS Fjellborg was heavily damaged following the incident.

As part of the 4th [Reserve] Surface Combat Flotilla, the CzWNS Eldheim and Fjellborg were deployed near Usta Island as a way to patrol the area and prevent further incursions by Fauthur. Whilst at port, they received an urgent call for reinforcement after the Sekiyan RNS Destiny spotted Fauthurian vessels. With only time to arm their torpedo tubes and 57mm cannons, the two Czuleck missile boats set out.

After seven minutes at sea, they reached the scene of the dispute. Negotiations then ensued between both sides to have Fauthur leave peacefully. However, in an act of aggression by Fauthur, UNFC Grafen-Holmer fired warning shots at both the Czuleck missile boats and the Sekiyan frigate, eventually opening fire on the two. In a retaliatory strike after having her communications mast hit, the CzWNS Fjellborg fired one of its torpedoes at the attacking force, landing a direct hit on UNFC Ventig.

This led to the Fauthur ships fleeing the area of operations, and a successful protection of Aftokratoain waters. Four Czuleck sailors were wounded in the skirmish, including the boat’s but thankfully none were killed. Both CzWNS Eldheim and Fjellborg were awarded a battle star by the Worker’s Navy, and the crew of the Fjellborg has claimed their first ship sunk, although it is unconfirmed if the UNFC Ventig sunk on its journey back to Fauthur.

Whilst many cheered this as a victory for Czuleck, there is a small, yet growing movement of neutrality. Many of those calling for neutrality claim this wasn’t Czuleck’s battle to fight, and much worse could happen if the confederation stays within the conflict. This is an especially popular movement among those between 16-26 age range, but with fleeting support among the older age groups.

Despite calls for neutrality, a majority of the nation still supports intervention into the region, especially after the environmental impact the original oil spill had on Usta island. The only commune that has a large amount of support for neutrality is that of Bundaberg, but it alone only has 13% of citizens supporting it.

On the opposite side of the aisle, a large and faster growing call for the modernization of the navy has started. Always known as the “oldest” branch, the navy mostly operates naval vessels dating back to the 1370s and 1380s, with the newest vessels being auxiliary ones. Instead of producing new ships of the line, the Worker’s Navy has instead modernized older vessels with newer defensive and offensive capabilities.

The current program of modernization has been successful, but various technical councils within the Navy have claimed upgrading ships can only last so long before they can’t be brought any further into the future. Instead, newer ships need to phase out the older classes, and stealth needs to be the name of the game. Gone are the days of brick-like ships, replaced by smooth stealth corvettes.

In a temporary compromise, the Czuleck Forum approved a defense bill to equip corvettes and missile boats with the new Moterick Anti Air Defense System [MAADS] by 1425. Until then, all ships without current Anti Air systems will have spots for Man-portable air-defense system [MANPADS], which can only effectively target helicopters and slow/low flying aircraft. Once upgraded, capabilities of corvettes and missile boats will be greatly expanded, and prevention of attacks from missiles can be expanded.

Many are curious if further naval assets will be deployed to the Usta island region, but that remains to be seen. The People’s Forum, as of writing, is in debate about whether to take things more diplomatically or escalate the situation, with fierce arguments coming from both sides. However, action is waiting on what Fauthur’s next step is going to be, and most likely will come after they make a move.

Until action is taken, the 4th [Reserve] Flotilla will stay at Usta, comprising of three Missile boats, two Home Guard Patrol Boats, various Fast Assault Craft, and other auxiliary vessels. In addition, home guard personnel have been placed on a medium alert. This alert establishes defense classes around the island, makes sure guards are on a 24 hour deployment readiness schedule, and increases coastal patrols among other things.

Until further, CMPC will keep coverage on this rapidly developing situation. The station has even gained permission to join patrols near Usta island, which allows for more accurate coverage to any interested.

Confidential - Chancellors Briefing on the situation near Aftokratoria

Chancellor Amelia Marcus is briefed by Rear Admiral Mina Graf of the Sekiyan Expeditionary Fleet that was sent to Aftokratoria and Czuleck last month. Also present is Grand Admiral Apsel Wolff and the Chief of Strategic Defence, Radulf Gantzmann.

Mina Graf: "Chancellor.. last weeks naval encounter is exactly why we need to send more ships. Operation Teilen is almost complete.. why not bring it forward by a few years?"

Gantzmann: "Chancellor I must protest. If we send such a large fleet up north It will leave our shores horribly undefended."

Marcus: "I see both of your points... Wolff, what is your opinion?"

Wolff: "Well.. I dont think we can bring forward Operation Teilen.. and Gantzmann is right, we can't leave our shores so defended."

Mina Graf: "But we have no enemies that could even reach Sekiya, let alone strike at our coast!"

Wolff: "Mina... I appreciate your enthusiasm as an Admiral and you have my respect for reaching your position at such a young age and you're an amazing naval commander... however there are things about geopolitics you just don't understand yet."

Gantzmann: "Wolff is right.. if we send more ships north, we're broadcasting to the world that Sekiya is ready for war... and frankly, we're not ready for a war if half of our navy is on the other side of the continent."

Mina looked defeated

Marcus: "Thank you, gentlemen... However, just entertain me. What would our situation look like right now if we put Operation Teilen into affect now..?"

Mina looked excited

Mina Graf: "Well-"

Mina looked defeated, again.

Marcus: "I'm asking Gantzmann."

Gantzmann: "Well... The first problem is that we don't have a suitable base for the northern fleet. Additionally, we would currently need at least one, if not two more auxiliary ships to support this, however we have identified several nations we could purchase these vessels from."

Marcus: "So it would be a logistical nightmare then..?"

Gantzmann: "I'm afraid so.. We are still waiting on two more Holz-Class frigates to be laid down, however there have been significant delays in their construction. However, the two Cambric corvettes we ordered are well on the way and should be ready to sail in 5 months, however it's important to note it will take several months to train the crews for both of these vessels."

Marcus: "It's a shame... I wish we were three years ahead of where we are now..however we will have to work with what we have. Wolff, Is there any way of sending reinforcements to Aftokratoria..?"

Wolff: "I wouldn't recommend it at all.. however the RNS Castle's sister ship, the RNS Fortress could be sent, complimented by the frigate, RNS Enn. However, this leaves us with 1 destroyer, 3 frigates, 5 corvettes and 10 miscellaneous, dated missile craft."

Mina Graf: "And the RNS Bastion..?"

Wolff: "Realistically, at best the RNS Bastion is going to be out of commission for a year."

Marcus: "Mina.. I wish there was more we could do, however I just don't think we have the resources for this...Thank you everyone for the briefing on this matter, I will be following the issue closely. Gantzmann, I will be seeing you later for the briefing on the situation on Campa Simpatica?"

Gantzmann: "Yes, Chancellor.. until then."

Marcus: "Mina.. stay for a minute, will you?"

Gantzmann and Wolff leave.

Mina Graf: "Yes.. Chancellor?"

Marcus sighs, wishing she could do more for the young Admiral.

Marcus: "Just know that.. I fully support your career in the navy, and I think in time, you will be one of the best in Sekiyan naval history.. however this time, there is sadly nothing we can do right now."

Mina Graf: "Thank you Chancellor.. I'm sorry I got heated earlier."

Marcus: "It's.. okay. Just stay focused on the expeditionary fleet for now, and I wish you safe travels back to the RNS Castle.

Context

RNS: Republican Naval Ship

Mina Graf: Born into a navy family and recently being promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral at 31, represents the 'new guard' of the Sekiyan Navy. Whilst reckless, the new guard believes in superiority through aggression.

Apsel Wolff: He worked his way up to the top and became Sekiya's Grand Admiral at 58. Now 68, his understanding of naval strategy, planning and politics is unmatched by none in the nation.

Grand Admiral: The highest obtainable rank within the Republican Navy.

Rear Admiral: The third highest obtainable rank within the Republican Navy. Sekiya usually has two rear admirals - one for it's Surface Fleet and one for the Republican Navy College. Following the creation of the Sekiyan Expeditionary Fleet, Mina Graf was appointed the leader of this fleet.

Fortress-Class: A class of destroyer designed in the 1390's, of which four have been built: RNS Fortress, RNS Castle, RNS Bastion and RNS Hold.

Holz-Class: A class of frigate designed in the 1380s, of which eight have been built.

Operation Teilen: A plan for Sekiya's surface fleet to be split into two fleets, with a "North Fleet" angled towards offense, and a "South Fleet" angled towards coastal defence.
