  1. The people of Dalimbar, not usually known for their enthusiasm of "foreign" sports such as ball of foot, seem to be starting to pay a bit more attention to their squad. Stavka has finally acknowledged the existence of the national team despite concerns of more hardline members to acknowledge that non-Dalimbari were potentially on the squad. Further, they actually seem to be doing well at this stage, sitting 2 wins and 0 losses. Klemen Janko, the centre forward of the squad, has been the rising star this year, scoring 3 out of 4 with an assist on the other goal, with the young Davor Koloman sneaking in a quick goal against Overthinkers.

  2. Statement by Stavka:

The Dalimbari are here at this World Cup and are having a wonderful time. They look forward to playing all the games.

  3. At the end of the round robin matches, it looked like it would be Zoran, Dalimbar, United Adaikes and Larxia in the final four, and ultimately in that order for the medals.

Cambria didn't seem to like that fate. They were not shy with their rugby, besting better ranked teams with precision. They placed third in this competition, their best results ever.

The Zoran vs Dalimbar billing was a rightful match up of the two proven powers of Rugby. Zoran was absolutely right to host the Cup after their impressive win over the constant-force Dalimbari side, and with how things turned up, the hosts proved yet again why they are the best in the world at the game for barbarians played by gentlemen.

We at Rugby Rankings commend another great tournament full of drama and proper sport. The Organizing Committee did a great job and we look forward to RWC4!

  4. "Come oooooooonnn!"

Now that was a grudge match. Only one try from the Dalimbari side in the entire match. Captain Artes was able to make a break through in the last few minutes of the match, but missing the conversion. It was finally an answer to the penalty kick from the opponents early on in the match. No side wanted to give. At all. In the end, it was enough to get the Dalimbari through to their rivals, the hosts.

Things were noticeably tight for the Dalimbari teams and their fans, even to just get into the stadium. There is an obvious sense of hatred towards the Boys in Blue here. The mockery of the Marshal was on full display, provided by what seems to be an occupation force from Cambria. Kin were heartened to hear of the burning effigies of the Queen of Cambria back in the homeland. Even if she was parading her status in another stadium before her side lost to the hosts.

Next comes Zoran. A repeat. On their home turf.

Maybe there's some spare landmines laying around?

  6. The Dalimbari on the streets were certainly in a celebratory mood. The way their glorious rugby team carried themselves and delivered victory against Santos-Dominius was spectacular. All they needed to do was finish off the far-easterners from United Adaikes, and then face either of their worst enemies, Cambria or Zoran.

The street celebration quickly turned when local news reports informed the revelers of the "balloon" thing now flying above Zoran from the kilt-wearing Cambrian barbarians. An effigy of their Queen was fashioned and burnt in a display of rage. An already xenophobic population was cranked up to 110%.

  7. Day 6 was a day to solidify ones position in the tournament. Goliath teams, Zoran, Dalimbar, and United Adaikes, all overcame their opponents, although the score from Zoran vs Fujai appears more close than what the rankings suggest should have happened. Cambria should be very pleased with the upset against Larxia, when, even accounting for the "home advantage", was still behind the Larxian squad in rank points.

A good day of rugby all around.

  8. PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM STAVKA - TO BE DISEMMINATED BY ALL MEDIA

The Free State of Dalimbar is extremely troubled by the admission that the Cambrians have several thousand of their security personnel inside Zoranian territory. During the Rugby World Cup tournament in Zoran, several Dalimbari fans were accosted and abused by foreigners. With Cambrian personnel in the country confirmed, we suspect that these security forces either were negligent in their duties to protect all fans, including Dalimbari, or supported the abuse towards our kin.

We demand the immediate withdrawal of Cambrian security and military personnel and assets from the Kingdom of Zoran. It is clear that the Cambrians can not provide safety in this volatile nation.

  9. SITUATION REPORT - LEVEL: STAVKA-ONLY - SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH / BLACKWATER AND TITAN GROUPS

Special Investigations Branch requests STAVKA approval for utilization of "Blackwater" and "Titan" Groups in trans-frontier operating areas.

Following successful execution of "Operation Thunderbolt" in Odda area, the Far-Eastern Control Zone has experienced 48 hours of general stability. With the arrests of 336 individuals, all of whom were sent to Camp 22-U, the main agitation network has been deemed subdued. However, Signals Branch has detected a sharp increase in the past 12 hours of communications crossing the border from Fujai into FECZ.

"Blackwater" and "Titan" groups, if approved, will work clandestinely to determine the connections between the Fujansk regime and insurrectionists on Dalimbari territory....

    ---

Reading the situation report, Marshal Briand looked over at the television screen showing the highlights of the Dalimbar vs Einherfell match. Blackwater and Titan groups had an odious reputation even within the hardline circles, but no one could argue they weren't effective in their operations. What concerned him was an accidental escalation of what is currently a relatively peaceful situation.

The sports commentator on the television then mentioned that the Cambrians had expressed public interest in hosting the next Rugby World Cup.

"No. Hard no. Absolutely not. It's one thing for them to host sports we don't care about and can boycott, but not this. Not our game! Ivan, tell Special Investigations that we authorize Blackwater and Titan. Let them know that scope of actions may include Cambria if they get any leads from that direction."

  10. The upset of Day 5 came from the "Battle of the Saints", between Santos-Dominius against Saint Mark. The plucky upstarts from SD made their... mark... against Saint Mark, sweeping them aside to enter the playoffs.

Blue Bubble continues to surprise, beating the squad from Giovanniland by one point. We could get a sense of how close this match would be through the rankings, where although Blue Bubble, through their dramatic climb in this tournament, actually accrued more points than their opponents, the Giovanniland squad did hold home advantage in this match. That wasn't enough, however, with Blue Bubble finding their way into the playoffs.

Other games went as predicted through the rankings, especially for the Dalimbari and H&J sides beating up on their opponents. The squad from Zoran got another large home-advantage boost to their rankings.

  11. Stavka members were happy with the results so far, meaning Marshal Briand could be happy. Not only were the Dalimbari on top of their group, but they knocked out the teeth of their fierce foes in Fujai, Nieubasria, and Dilber. Even better, the mild flair-up of deviants and subversives in the far-east has been dealt with. However, it was mildly disappointing that the security services couldn't pin it on Fujai or the forsaken Cambrians.

Oh well. Perhaps with this Blubberman matter continuing, the Marshal has been thinking of starting a non-domestic television service which could use the "talents" of an insane culturally inappropriate sports commentator. Briand might have to speak with the media team about that, after the upcoming game against this "Einherfell" place. Most likely just more barbarians to sweep aside.

  12. The giant continues to fall.

Every other game had the higher ranking side win their match. Some more comfortably than others. But...

    Blue Bubble.

It is unclear if the current H&J squad is the same as the previous squads that country has produced. It may take a while for them to go back to their glory days.

  13. While waiting for the next Dalimbari rugby match, Marshal Markus Briand was essentially channel surfing. One of the few in the nation to be able to get channels from the outside, for "monitoring purposes", he stumbled upon a show detailing the "Blubberman scandal". For the Dalimbari head of state, the presenter wasn't necessarily wrong... If the presenter wasn't visibly insane, he might have done well enough on Dalimbari television.

"Ivan! Get the troll bots ready! #BlubbermanWasRight and all that nonsense!"

  14. SITUATION BRIEFING - LEVEL: STAVKA-ONLY - SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH

Situation: Demonstrations by Anti-Dalimbari Elements in Far-Eastern Control Zone

22 individuals have been arrested for conspiracy against the Free State for attempting to blow up bridge near Odda in FECZ. None have been determined at this time to hold ties to foreign actors. Conspirators call themselves "Friends of the Hills". Further investigation has uncovered a network in the Odda area which will be cleared this evening. Odda area considered "hostile" until operation concludes. Arrested conspirators are currently in transit to Camp 22-U.

Special Investigations Branch and other security services will continue monitoring situation and act accordingly.

  15. Welcome to Day Three!

Zoran vs Teralyon saw the hosts reminding the tournament as to why they won the last RWC and why they deserve the ranking they have.

Santos-Dominius vs Denieria, along with Qostaoyae vs Nagaraningrad, went as predicted, good matches to watch with the winner being the higher ranked squad coming in.

Dilber vs Dalimbar was a triumph for the Dalimbari. Not as impact-worthy as Zoran's continued climb in ranking points, but solidifies their second rank position.

The awakening of Niuebasria continues against Einherfell. It will be interesting to see if Nieubasria can carry this momentum against their next opponents, Dalimbar.

The shock of the day came from Larxia beating H&J. Larxia seemed to be able to pin down the first champions of Rugby World Cup, and this puts H&J at their worst rankings since Day 5 of RWC1, from a height of 61.04 at Day 4 of RWC2.

Blue Bubble seems to have more drive in them than what pre-match Rankings were giving them. They had a tough game with Hanita Gracse, edging them out by two points.

Cambria vs United Adaikes was a clash of the titans. UA was able to hold off the Cambrians, but probably closer than what the UA squad would have envisioned. Rankings alone, UA was almost 6 rank points above Cambria, yet despite the rankings, the Cambrians are a plucky skilled team which can cause hell for their opponents.

  16. SITUATION BRIEFING - LEVEL: STAVKA-ONLY - SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH

Situation: Demonstrations by Anti-Dalimbari Elements in Far-Eastern Control Zone

Reports from local commands in Far-Eastern Control Zone (FECZ) note a 27% increase in Anti-Dalimbari behaviour overnight after the Dalimbari-Fujansk match at Rugby World Cup 3 in Zoran. Two sub-districts east of Port Ain, within the FECZ, describe an attempted arson campaign by hostile elements which was quickly suppressed. Five sub-districts near frontier tell of sporadic organized protests near Dalimbari military assets, which have also been quashed. It is recommended that increased jamming of foreign communication signals and an increase in active service members patrol zones to maintain order.

Further reports from Zoran from on-site security services note harassment towards Dalimbari nationals in attendance of rugby matches. It is unclear at this time of the nationalities of those abusing Dalimbari - suspects include Fujansk and Cambrian nationals. No comment by local law enforcement has been made at this time. Unclear if they are even aware. Protection of Dalimbari nationals continues to be the paramount objective of security services in area.

  17. Day Two of RWC3 saw the big teams come out to play.

Zoran, the reigning champion and host, proved that their victory in RWC2 was not a fluke, with their win over a strong Saint Mark side. The grudge match between Dalimbar and Fujai saw the militant Dalimbari victorious.

But frankly, the main match of the day was Hertfordshire and Jammbo vs Giovanniland. The squad from Giovanniland walked in the favourites, with a ranking of 54.63 and holding home advantage. H&J was not far behind, at 53.74. However, in play, H&J dominated, blanking their opponents 19-0. The rank change was absolutely significant, with H&J gaining 4.17 rank points, Giovanniland dropping the equivalent amount.

These rankings show us who has a good chance of being the ultimate victors, but there will be surprises in this tournament. Rankings sizes squads up against their opponents, tries to factor for advantage while at the same time not necessarily rewarding the beating up on smaller teams. It's the rugby way.

  18. It has often been wondered how someone becomes part of the elite of Dalimbari sports.

Several of the team come from the dusty frontier town of Saikuz. It is a centre of one of the more active military districts, operating in eastern territory that has often served as a battlefield between the Dalimbari and their barbaric neighbours, the Cambrians and the Fujansk. Although all Dalimbari serve their kin through service in the military - indeed service is citizenship - those perhaps more hardy and courageous members serve in the frontiers, bringing Dalist ethos and civilization to the borderlands. Young Dalimbari have been brought to the east and are growing up in the same spirit as their forebearers did when they grew up in new and savage lands.

The Arts brothers are part of this gens. Captain Alexendre Arts (29, Openside Flanker) and Lieutenant Florijan Arts (25, Fly-Half) grew up in Saikuz. As children of the prominent Arts family, whose patriarch being Lieutenant General Michel Arts, they attended the prestigious General Fontaine Academy near the centre of Saikuz. Such academies were often viewed as the laboratory of the elite of the nation, crafting their pupils into becoming the next generation of leaders in all services of the Free State. In the case of the Arts brothers, their determined focus on rugby, competing for Gen. Fontaine against numerous other academies, contributed to their rise to the heights of Dalimbari rugby, the National Squad.

Others on the current squad may not have been as privileged, however to make National Squad (or really to participate in most forms of rugby), one must be Dalimbari. While other sports leagues may recruit from within the confederated groups, Dalimbari rugby is for the Dalimbari.

  19. What a way to start Rugby World Cup 3!

First off, Nieubasria. Won. A. Game. Ok, so, they have won one match in the entire history of Rugby World Cup, being on Day 2 of RWC2. But that was against Nark, the team with the worst record. This time, it was Dilber, host of the previous Rugby World Cup, to lose to Nieubasria. How high does Dilber need to be for that to happen?! Or, is this a sign of a new team to emerge from Nieubasria?

Welcomes and salutations to the onslaught of new teams! Only one managed a victory, that being Santos-Dominius against Teralyon. The rest will need to quickly adjust to the big-leagues if they want to survive the tournament.

  20. Gooooooooood mooooooorrrrrnnniiiinnnggggg Rugby!

Just before Rugby World Cup 3 kicks off in Zoran, the Department of Sports of the Free State of Dalimbar is proud to bring back Rugby Rankings. In the past two editions, we have delved into the stats to show how important even the most boring of games can be. Just because a game is tied, doesn't mean nothing happened. And by golly, we've seen quite a few Davids beat their Goliaths. Or... sometimes the David just got pummeled into the ground.

In past years we gave newcomers to the tournament an automatic 50.00 ranking. However, to not artificially inflate or otherwise make the rankings incomprehensible, going on forward Rugby Rankings will award newcomers an automatic 45.00 to start. This is not the worst ranking so far, that still is 42.59 at press time. However, this means that new teams will need to work hard to prove themselves compared to well-established teams. And they certainly can!

For Rugby Ranking edition 3, we have removed teams that only competed in RWC1 from the ranking list. We will be keeping RWC2 teams which did not submit a team for RWC3, to show how other teams (especially the newer ones) rank relative compared to some of the favourites from last time.

With all that being said, here's the pre-start rankings.

    1. Zoran - 57.66
