Winnipeg
That's now officially my fav photo of Waterton. The panoramic style made me almost not recognize it.
Bhang Bhang Duc
So disapointing last night. I look out the window and see stars....go outside and see clouds. Clouds above, but none toward the horizon. So no eclipse viewing here. First rule of astronomy: cloud cover is directly proportional to the rarity of the event. Huangshi
Haha... didn't Murphy come up with that rule ?
Westwind
Could be. I was able to watch the ISS pass overhead the past two evenings. Saturday evening, I could see the SpaceX Dragon module chasing the ISS which was pretty cool to watch.
God-Emperor
I bet. I'd love to see that. It'd be like watchin' the future in active.
Westwind
The Dragon module was orange, chasing the white light of the ISS. Today's link: Bouncing neutrons fail to find dark matter or energy Dark energy's local effect on gravity narrowed down; no sign of axions. http://arstechnica.com/science/2014/04/bouncing-neutrons-fail-to-find-dark-matter-or-energy/

Westwind
How fast does our star move relative to its neighbors? I see a listing of 486,000 miles per hour for the sun, but I presume that's actual speed rather than relative speed. Wouldn't it be fun if a rogue star came crashing into our solar system? Read something about M87 Galaxy 'hurling' a star cluster our way. Meanwhile.... Possible meteor shower May 23-24 as Earth passes through dust trail of 209P/LINEARhttp://phys.org/news/2014-04-meteor-shower-earth-trail.html On Friday night/early Saturday May 23-24 skywatchers across the U.S. and southern Canada may witness the birth of a brand new meteor shower. If predictions hold true, Earth will pass through multiple tendrils of dust and pebbly bits left behind by comet 209P/LINEAR, firing up a celestial display on par with the strongest showers of the year. Or better.

Small Huts
I see a listing of 486,000 miles per hour for the sun, but I presume that's actual speed rather than relative speed. uhm... everything is relative? I guess you mean rotational speed.
Huangshi
Wouldn't it be fun if a rogue star came crashing into our solar system? Ah, yes, "fun" is just the word I was going to use to describe that particular situation. But seriously, there are so many ways the Universe could spontaneously kill all of us right now, and we wouldn't even see it coming. Like freaking Gamma Rad Bursts. Crazy-arse pulsars... Oh, and NOT the kind of gamma rays that give make you a giant green rage monster!

Bhang Bhang Duc
Actually I think we're starting into the realms of science fiction here and very poor sci-fi at that.
