In the morning the President awoke with a coughing fit that caused the Raven Claw in the room to rush to his aid. The old man gently pushed the Raven Claw away and simply took a pill with some water. The coughing stopped shortly after that but he felt worse than yesterday, however; this wouldn't stop him from going on with is day.
"Sir, have you heard the news about the Sultan's partner" asked the Raven Claw. The old man stopped and gave a deep sigh,
    "I am assuming..."
"Yes sir, she didn't make the flight back to her home country of Lanorth."
The old man felt sad for the girl,
She was so young and had a long future ahead of her. She had a heart in her that was bigger than most, but her literal heart was weak.
He thought to himself as he was getting dressed. He hoped the Sultan wasn't affected too badly by the news of the passing.
"Make sure the limos are prepared, we have a schedule to maintain." He says to the Raven Claw. He then looks into the mirror and sees that he is even paler than yesterday. With a sigh he finishes tying his tie and proceeds to the limo that awaits him outside. He was surprised to see his intern was waiting for him inside as well,
"Good morning sir!" She said excitedly,
"Ah Adsila! I didn't expect you to show up today." He answers with a smile,
"Of course I would show up!" She says a bit offended, "I would never miss out of this experience!"
The old man chuckled and said,
"Well I expected you to stay with that boyfriend of yours but if you say so." Adsila then gave a concerned look at the president,
"Sir are you feeling alright? You look really pale?" The president simply reassured her that he was alright as the limo was on its way to the hotel to meet with the Sultan.
The Sultan is a very closed off man, I know he has suffered much in his youth but that just makes his emotions more dangerous to himself at times even if he believes he can control them.  I have learnt in my years that to seek to control your emotions only leads to more suffering and pain than necessary.
He thinks to himself as Adsila talks about potential changes to how things could be done in Zoran, to which he ignores since he has no real power to change it. When the limo stopped, he exited the vehicle and told Adsila to follow him into the hotel.
"Adsila, have you ever been to the Heart of the Spirit?" He asks his intern,
"No sir! I have never had the pleasure of going there." She answers,
"Well you can mark that off your bucket list because we are visiting there along with the site of the Battle of the Covenant." Ani'-Wah' said with a smile. He glanced over his shoulder and saw that Adsila was excited and he smirked. They walked towards the elevator and the President punched in the code for the International suite and they headed up to meet with the Sultan.

    Westwind
    By Correspondent Reçueçn

“I’d like to ask for your thoughts on some things, as well as just your own history,” I said.
“Go right ahead,” said Westwind. He poured us both another glass of rum. I took a moment to look at the bottle, with the TWP Spiced Crimson Rum branding.
“This is good stuff,” I said.
Westwind nodded. “By the way, in TNP it was Crimson Rum. In TWP it was Spiced Crimson Rum. There IS a difference! Both are served at the E-Bar in Equilism, and kegs of Spiced Crimson Rum are delivered to the TWP RMB on special occasions. Such vintage spirits have limited availability.”
I laughed. “Well I’m glad I could taste some.” I savored a mouthful as I thought about what I wanted to ask.
“We talk a lot about how NS is a 'text-based game' and what that means. Definitely it's a very unique game in both the demands it makes of players and the opportunities it presents.  What qualities of yours do you think it plays to?”
“Well, having a degree in political science and geography plays well to a political simulation game. I remember when SimCity first came out....and the first Civilization. Having done my own sort of version of NS when I was young, and having written a book about those fictional nations and characters... it all fits well.
Maybe Max Barry was my protege and he doesn't know it.
As for the text-based aspect, there's probably a few other factors. Besides trying to write a book, I'd been editor of three publications. Back in the days of paste-up layouts before computers. So I'm often comfortable writing.
And when those early computers came along, text-based games were what was available.  'Rogue'....enter a direction and get a response. Text based.
Due to my disabilities, I cannot play Real Time Simulation games. (I liked Age of Empires, but I can't play it) Trying to keep up with the game causes me to have seizures. So I have to be careful what kind of video games I play. I have to watch out for rapid graphics, flashing graphics. And my medications slow brain function. So I'm too slow to react for some games, and I have to play them on the very easiest settings.
The text-based game NS doesn't give me any of those problems.”
“When you reminisce about your time on NS, what period do you think of the most fondly?”
“I would have to say it was the camaraderie of the players of Equilism,” said WW. “How well we all worked together inside and outside the region. How we were often able to avoid the heated conflicts that were seen in so many other regions. How we were able to innovate outside of traditional NS ideologies, plot complex ideas outside of the box and out of the R/D perspective, ground our actions in well-founded ideals, and how well we could come together to accomplish our goals. Great players with great accomplishments all across NS. I was fortunate to work with them.
Just like all the greatest rock bands....the interactions of strong personalities makes for great music.”
“What is the biggest thing you’ve learned from NS?”
“Intrigue in NS is described by Pink Floyd in the song 'Dogs'
    Welcome to NationStates!”
And in true TWP style, Westwind began to sing me some karaoke:
“- You got to be crazy....
    - Gotta sleep on your toes...
    - You got to strike when the moment is right without thinking...
    - And after a while, you can work on points for style....
    - You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
    - You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder....
    - You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older...
    - And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown....
    - Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used....
    - That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend....”
He trailed off and thought for a minute before speaking again.
“Or....Maybe I"m an old grandpa (my nickname became 'Gramps' in Equilism by '05) that's learned to be more online social media savvy from interacting with players young enough to be children and grandchildren on NS? Too weird. But I've been online since before the Internet was public, so I already knew cyberspace.”
Once more, he began to sing: “’Net boy, Net girl
Send your signal 'round the world
Put a message in a modem
And throw it in the cyber sea...’
I have seen NS political tactics applied in RL across Social Media that baffled traditional political operatives.
I ran for office once in 1990's RL, via third party for State Legislature. An informational campaign. More recently, both major parties were offering me leadership conferences and training in the '16 election. So strange...getting offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Washington, California......
I admit a certain curiosity as to how useful NS experience might be in pursuing RL Politics. Would I do it though? Probably not. I don't like either major party, and you can't win without one. I don't think my health would like it. And the mudslinging would drive anyone mad. But most of our RL politicians are not terribly intelligent. The Oligarchy of Real Life.
In NS and RL, leadership requires finding the right people to do the job that needs doing, and being willing to delegate tasks and the authority (and resources) they need to carry them out. Thus, in NS as in RL, politics makes strange bedfellows. Play NS enough, and you'll understand the odd alignments that appear in RL politics at times.”
“What question do you most want to get asked in an interview? What's the answer?”
“I don't know. I'd found it curious that no one had ever asked me about The Crimson Order in TNP, and now that's been asked and answered in TRR.”
We drifted into natural, personal conversation as we sipped on our rum and enjoyed some TWP karaoke favorites. Suddenly, the clock on the mantlepiece chimed loudly. It was already evening, and I had stayed longer than I had meant to.
“Thank you so much, Westwind. For the newspaper, I'll let you have the final word. Anything else you'd like to say?”
“I don't know if I have any words left." He chuckled. "NationStates is a curious animal. It cannot be tamed, but it can be lead and domesticated for a time and place.
Just think.....had the Destroyers/Deadwood/NTO/SOULEATERS efforts been backed by a multi-regional organization such as a reformed ADN or The Crimson Order and followed to it's natural conclusion.....more Raider targets would have been removed from the game....Region names freed for new/active players to use.....there would be fewer small regions without security, leaving fewer regions for defenders to defend....the R/D game could be crippled......forum/offsite communities enhanced by players returned from the void of inactivity....interregional politics and 'wars' could supersede the R/D conflicts of the past....NS could be a more dynamic political simulation capable of innovation unhampered by limited R/D gameplay perspectives.
The potential in those ideas that were developed was audacious. No wonder defenders worked with raiders to defeat The Crimson King. *chuckles*
    Existing paradigms don't like change.
NationStates is a long story that is constantly having new pages written by it's players on a daily basis.
And I'm just one of the Storytellers.”

I would like to personally thank @Westwind for granting this interview. I had a lot of fun speaking with him and learning from him. I'd like to apologize for the frankly ridiculous amount of time it took me to get around to writing it up, and also for leaving out as much as I did... WW is a source of much wisdom and I couldn't pack it all into the format I wanted. Any inaccuracies in the above articles not in direct quotes are my responsibility: please let me know if I've gotten anything wrong.
    Happy Holidays!

In the presidential chambers of Austenaco Presidential manor, the old president laid in bed as the doctor examined him. The doctor gave him some medication to support him but before he left he said,
"I am afraid that there is little any doctor can do for you Mr. Ani'-Wah'. While most healthy people like you live to about their 90s, you are dying of natural causes. You have about four days to live. I...I wish I could do more for you."
The old man closed his eyes and sighed, he knew this day was quickly approaching. He has had a long and eventful life, full of tension, conflict, and tragedy. He was not afraid of death, he would accept it.
"Do not despair Dr. Ahalakochee, as you have said there is little that you can do. You have been a fine doctor and you have kept me in the best of health. The Great Spirit calls for our spirits in time and He has determined that my time on this world is almost up. But He keeps me alive for these next four days to complete my part in the lives of others." said President Ani'-Wah' in a warm and kind tone. Dr. Ahalakochee nodded and wished Ani'-Wah' goodbye before exiting the room.
I suspect that my final task shall be to make an impact on the life of the young Sultan. Oh Great Spirit grant me the strength and vitality to see my purpose through.
He thought to himself before asking the Raven Claw in his room,
"Any word from our guests at the hotel?"
"Indeed there is sir," answered the Raven Claw, "one of the members of the Sultan's secret service called for a doctor after the partner of the young Sultan feinted in the hotel lobby."
The old man's eyes widened at this news and enraged asked,
"Why have you not told me this sooner!? Where is she now?! Has the Sultan been informed of what has occurred!?"
"I did not wish to tell you because it was important that you listen to the doctor. According to what other Raven Claws have reported, she was taken to Twin Spirit Hospital so she is in good hands as you know it is one of the best hospitals in the nation. As for whether the Sultan has been informed is not known, it is a high possibility that the Sultan has been informed by his secret service but if so we have not been informed." answered the Raven Claw.
At these words, the president got up out of bed, put on his suit and turban, stuck the feather in his turban, and grabbed his satchel and told the Raven Claw,
"Get the limos ready, I intend to inform the Sultan himself if he has not been informed!" He ordered. The man saluted and contacted the other Raven Claws via his earpiece to put things in action. Ani'-Wah' and the Raven Claw left the chamber to depart for the hotel.
Poor girl, she must have not been used to travel or the climate here. Hopefully the girl is alright, she might need to be sent home based on my experience.
The old man thought to himself as they approached the hotel. He could see police officers writing a report of what has occured. The Raven Claws and the Lanorth secret service were clearing the way for the president. He stopped to ask one of the secret service members,
    "Have you informed the Sultan?"
"Not yet, we did not wish to wake him." He answered,
"What do you mean!? Aren't you supposed to inform him of ANYTHING that should happen to his partner!?" Ani'-Wah' answered angrily,
    "Well uh...I gue-"
"You guess what!? I may not be your boss but I still understand what the Sultan would want you to do!" He interrupted before he ran towards the elevator and punched in the code to the International Suite.
They were obviously a new but I can also tell that they weren't the one who got Sabriye to the hospital. I just hope the Sultan will be alright.

As the young Sultan approached, Ani'-Wah' gave a small bow before shaking his hand,
"It is a pleasure to have you and your lovely companion visit our country Sultan." Ani'-Wah' replied with a smile on his face.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I trust Çandarlı Pasha was an acceptable diplomat to sign our pact?" Answers the young Sultan,
"Oh yes he was an extraordinary diplomat, very polite and respectful and holds you in high regard. I can tell you that in my experience he is a very loyal person to you." I reply. I watched as he turned to the lovely young woman who took a step forward.
"This is my..." he paused. "Partner, Sabriye." He said.
Hmm, interesting. I feel as though that there might be a strain in their relationship or he is thinking of an appropriate term. Hopefully I might be able to help them both and let their experience here be one they will never forget, in a good way of course.
He thought to himself as Sabriye walked forward and curtseyed before shaking his hand.
"It is a pleasure to meet the both of you." Said Ani'-Wah'. He watched the Sultan look up at the sky in admiration as he took in a breath of the fresh air.
"It's wonderful here." Commented the Sultan. Ani'-Wah' smiled and nodded in appreciation for the Sultan's comment.
"Say Mr. President. You should visit Constantinople one day." said the Sultan as he gently pointed southwest in the direction of Lanorth, "We would love it."
"One day I may, I will try my best to do so in my old age. While I may be fit for one of my age, travel has recently has begun to have a impact on me. But I am also a man who is not known to turn down an invitation and so one day soon I shall." Ani'-Wah' answered with a smile. The young Sultan sighed ,
"My God, I'm tired." He said as he looked down at his watch, "We best be off - we were up quite early this morning. I didn't sleep on the plane."
"Why of course, quite a flight can be exhausting. Come, we have your limos waiting for you. The Raven Claws have also been instructed to work with your secret service and that they should follow their lead." Said Ani'-Wah'. He led the two to the limos and said,
"I shall be close behind in my own limousine, inside you shall fine a large variety of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, along with ice should you need it."
The Sultan then shook hands with Ani'-Wah' again before the door was opened for him and his partner. Ani'-Wah' then entered his limo and poured himself a drink.
Such a lovely couple, I could see the chemistry between them. But I know that tension is to come, hopeful things will end well.
Ani'-Wah' thought to himself as he took a drink from his glass.
Reminds me of my wife, oh how I miss her every day. But I go on living for the both of us, I know she would want that.
As he reminisced about his wife, the Raven Claw driving the limo called back,
"Are you alright Mr. President? You look a bit pale?"
President Ani'-Wah' was brought back to reality and looked down at his hands to check his complexion. Indeed he noticed that he was a bit paler than normal.
"Yes I am quite fine, do not worry about me, just focus on driving for now." He replies. Ani'-Wah' had a feeling that he was a bit under the weather, but nothing he hasn't experienced before.
"Sir, you know that it is part of our oath to ensure your welbeing. I advise we go see a doctor-"
"Silence!" said the old man firmly, "I am well aware of your oath and appreciate your concern, but right now I wish to see that our guests are comfortable in their stay."
When they arrived at the hotel, He got out and saw the admiration on the Sultan's face and was pleased that the building impressed him so.
"Wow..." murmured the Sultan. Ani'-Wah' smiled as he watched the Sultan turned to Sabriye to ask if she was ready. He then followed behind them inside the hotel, Revalation Towers, where they were crowded by reporters who were held back by the secret service of Lanorth and Zoran. Ani'-Wah' helped guide the Sultan and Sabriye to the elevator where they will be taken to their rooms. He typed in the secret code for the International Suite at the top of the hotel,
"I shall not be able to accompany you, but I shall see you soon. Hope you rest up. The code is 3256 should you ever need to go back up if you come down." He said before the elevator door closed. He then addressed the reporters, answering any questions they had while keeping the privacy of the Sultan and Sabriye as best as he could.
Apparently my assistant forgot to tell the Raven Claws to clear out the hotel entrance of reporters, regardless I should have expected this.
He thought as he carefully answered each and every question that was thrown at him. However, he felt a bit uneasy and a bit faint and one of the Black Hawks noticed this and took initiative to clear out the lobby and back to the limo in order to take him back to Austenaco Presidential Manor so he can be seen by a doctor.

The Raven Claws cleared the runway and the surrounding area in preparation for the young Sultan’s arrival. The middle-aged President Ani’-Wah’ looked upon the preparation for the arrival with a smile on his face. He took out a traditional Zoranian pipe, filled the bowl with sweet locally grown tobacco, and lit it up with his lighter.
This is an important event for Zoran. The Sultan of Lanorth rarely leaves his country and is a new ally for us. I must make sure he finds his stay enjoyable and show him our country.
He thought to himself as the red carpet was being rolled out by the Raven Claws. He took a long draw from his pipe as his young intern, Adsila, from Platypus Island University, came running up with her tablet,
"President Ani’-Wah’ sir, everything is in order as you have requested. The people have been made aware of the arrival of the Sultan and the International Suite is reserved and prepared.” she said nervously,
A smile crept upon his tan and leathery face, “Very good Adsila, did you make sure the armored limousines are prepared and the routes for the day have been cleared?” asked Ani’-Wah’
"Yes sir, do not worry. Everything is prepared for-”
"Including the five gift baskets that I requested to be in the Sultan’s suite?” he interrupted.
The young intern’s eyes widened in terror as she realized that she forgot about the baskets,
"I’m so sorry sir, I forgot to check if they were put in place!” She says in an ashamed voice.
Ani’-Wah’ turned to her, “Do not worry, I have made sure of that myself. In my years of experience I knew your attention was preoccupied with messaging that boyfriend of yours.” He watched as a blush slowly appeared on her face, “You are not in trouble, as Adandvo once said, ‘we all have our blunders, we all have our flaws, but we always must be ready to forgive and learn from our faults.’”
The young intern smiled with relief, “Thank you sir, I will try not to make the same mistake again.”
"You know what,” said Ani’-Wah’, “you have worked hard to prepare for this very important event. You have done incredibly well for this all to come up on your third day. Take the rest of the day off and spend time with your boyfriend, you will miss these young years when you get to my age.” He says with a smile.
"Thank you so much sir!” exclaims the young intern before she heads on home.
Ah, I miss those years. I wish I had done more and gone and explored more of Zoran. I hope to give the young Sultan the experiences which I wish I could have experienced in Zoran when I was nineteen.
Ani’-Wah’ thought to himself as he took another draw on his pipe and exhaled a cloud of smoke before turning around in the direction of the red carpet. He emptied the bowl and slipped the pipe in his satchel. He brushes off his silk suit with Zoranian embroideries on it and adjusted his cream and red Zoranian Turban* with golden embroideries on it and a single feather sticking out of the back as the plane was brought to a halt and the steps descended from the plane.
May the Great Spirit help me in showing the Zoranian culture and traditions to the Sultan in hopes of starting a friendship between our countries.

He thought to himself as Sultan Mehmed of Lanorth and a woman, who Ani'-Wah' assumes to be the Sultan's girlfriend, began to exit the plane.

Zoran reacted to CanadianMaps(eareamland) in The aftermath.
After the end of the Civil war, with James I taking the throne, the 550 Oem banknote was made in his name. Reforms were enacted, as well as a new constitution. The new constitution included much more rights, as well as more power for the Prime Minister.
The new constituon, The People's Constitution, was signed by the King at 5 PM, 20th March 1420. Some of the country, especially the countryside, didn't enjoy the reduction in farm animal possibilities.
510 Farmers came together to march on the palace and demand a change. Will the change come?

Zoran reacted to Alexandria in Zoranian Nights
FOLLOWING the signing of a defensive pact between Lanorth and Zoran, in order to improve relations, Mehmed proposed he visited Zoran in a state visit. Zoran accepted, so Mehmed and his girlfriend, Sabriye, who had hardly ever travelled abroad due to the travel restrictions of the military dictatorship, had left Constantinople for the Adanvdo International Airport in Zoradia.
The plane, a red and white decorated with the Lanorthan flag and the words "The Sultanate of Lanorth" on each side, had left several hours ago now. It was closer to Zoran now than it was to Lanorth. It was travelling at around five-hundred miles-per-hour. Mehmed, inside was wearing his usual black uniform with his black Bork hat. Though, his hat was on the table in-front of him, as he sat down in a chair with a window view. In-front of him, was Sabriye, dressed in a pretty, blue dress with a tiarra in her neat hair. Mehmed sat on a sofa and so did Sabriye, however, they were small versions of sofas and were facing each-other.
"I presume we are nearly there, Sabriye." Said Mehmed, looking at his watch.
"I hope so." She said. "Never have liked the idea of an aircraft. A metal box flying in the air."
"It's perfectly safe here. You are fine." Said Mehmed, smiling at her. Mehmed placed his hand over her own. Mehmed became slightly agitated, as she was not looking at him.
"Look at me, Sabriye." Mehmed said. Sabriye turned her head. "You'll be fine." Said Mehmed reassuringly.
"God, I hope so." Said Sabriye.
"So." Said Mehmed, sitting back. "Looking forward to this?" He asked.
"Yeah." Said Sabriye, looking at Mehmed as he took out a cigarette. Mehmed lit it with his lighter, inhaling and then exhaling.
"Well, I know for sure that I am." Said Mehmed. He then turned his head, gesturing for his servant. His servant approached him and bowed.
"Yes, my Sultan?" Mehmed handed him his personalised cigarette case.
"I would like some more cigarettes in there, please." Said Mehmed.
"Of course, my Sultan." Said the servant. He bowed, once again before walking off with them, going to find Mehmed's other cigarettes.
Mehmed looked out of the window on his left. He realised the clouds were getting nearer and nearer. As his servant came back with his case and handed it to him, Mehmed inquired about the plane.
"Are we coming into land?" Mehmed asked, gesturing to the window.
"I believe so, Sultan. I would say, five to ten minutes, maybe and we should be there."
"Fantastic." Said Mehmed. "Thank you." He gestured to the servant, who bowed once more, before walking away. Sabriye remained unusually quiet, looking out of the window. "What are you staring at?" Asked Mehmed.
"Look out of the window." Said Sabriye. Mehmed turned his head and looked out of the window.
"Oh my God." Said Mehmed, in admiration. He had a clear view over the platypus island and the city upon it, as well as parts of the ocean surrounding it. It was beautiful.
"That is what I was staring at, Mehmed." Said Sabriye.
"Don't blame you." Said Mehmed, clearing his throat, before standing up. Sabriye did the same. Sabriye walked around the table and stood in-front of Mehmed, before hugging him, resting her head on his chest. "We have to be ready." Said Mehmed, hugging her for a few seconds, before stepping back, lifting his hat from the table, before placing it on his head. Mehmed took one last puff from his cigarette, before stubbing it out. He then turned, as he felt the aircraft touch down in the airport.
As the aircraft came to a perfect stop, Mehmed gestured to Sabriye, who stepped forward. Mehmed put out his hand and Sabriye took it. They waited. The aircraft doors opened and a series of steps extended out. A man in military uniform stepped out to complete some final touches to the steps, before he gestured to six men in ceremonial military uniform.
They stepped out, walking in synchronisation. Mehmed watched as they filed out of the aircraft doors and walked formally down the steps, standing on either side of the red carpet in threes. A few men in black formal clothing, members of the secret service, filed out, before Mehmed and Sabriye stepped forward. They stopped as they reached a small landing which led to the steps. Mehmed waved as they paused. Mehmed smiled, taking in the view. Mehmed looked down at the steps as he and Sabriye moved towards them.
