  4. State Dinner at Oborin Palace Finished Saint Andreisburg, Dalimbar — The state dinner between the leaders of Dalimbar, Giovanniland and Saint Mark has finished, with the event taking several hours at the Oborin Palace of Saint Andreisburg, the Dalimbari capital city. Significant diplomatic progress was completed after discussion between Marshal Markus Briand and the rest of Stavka representing Dalimbar, His Serene Highness Prince Marcarius leading the Saint Markan delegation, and King Giovanni VI and Prime Minister Elisa Anario-Silva leading the Giovannilandian delegation. In addition, both invited nations' delegations also experienced Dalimbari culture and cuisine in the palace, which was built by Marshal Petrov Oborin and once was the residence for the Marshals of Dalimbar, now serving as host location for state and cultural events. Trade agreements were plentiful, with a new trade corridor between the three countries announced that connects Dalimbar to the southern Saint Markan coast, and from there reaches the major Giovannilandian port city of Uryde, one of the eight prefecture-level cities of Giovanniland and the largest city in the country's northern Lavender Island coast. Some of the Giovannilandian items to be provided for exports will be advanced consumer goods from the nation's industrial sector and primary sector products such as tropical fruits. In return, examples of Giovannilandian imports from Dalimbar will be rare earth minerals to aid the nation's thriving technology industry, and oil and natural gas to supplement its national production and needs as well as secondary sales for neighboring nations. Beyond trade, the leaders of Giovanniland and Dalimbar have moved to establish closer diplomatic relations, with a Giovannilandian embassy to be built in Saint Andreisburg and a Dalimbari embassy to be built in Giovannia, the two nations' respective capital cities. Both the King and PM, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs Tarquino Albio-Tertullio and Minister of Trade Flavio Lavandino, called the state dinner a success, noting the importance of achieving closer relations between three of the four largest economies in Esferos. We at the Nuntikarta Giovanniterrana will continue to watch the developments of these results and deliver live news to all our readers.

  6. Giovanniland Eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 4th Rugby World Cup Kaisah, Dalimbar — In an upset match, Giovanniland lost to Nieubasria 6 to 13 in Port Kaisah Stadium. The game started with number 8 Giovanna Antonia scoring a drop goal and left wing Markio Telliano Ulpio adding to the score after a penalty, with the Giovannilandians maintaining the advantage at half time. However, the Basrians surprised everyone in the second half, their players Fabian Carver and Isaak Quintero each achieving a try, and Teo Nelson completing the final score of 6-13 with a drop goal. Nieubasria advanced to the quarterfinals, but eventually lost to hosts Dalimbar. Several major prediction sites picked Giovanniland as the winner, especially considering the team's upwards improvement in the last few group stage matches, but they were left disappointed. In the last group stage match, the Giovannilandians had defeated the Fluvians in another clean sheet, 15 to 0. Demetro Gianluka was the star of the match, earning ten points alone with his two tries scored, and Lavinia Tullio-Kesari completed the game with a late try with five minutes remaining on the game. King and Prime Minister visit Oborin Palace Saint Andreisburg, Dalimbar — King Giovanni VI and PM Elisa Anario-Silva have arrived at the Oborin Palace in the capital of Dalimbar, Saint Andreisburg. The head of state and government are visiting Marshal Markus Briand for a state dinner alongside His Serene Highness Prince Marcarius of Saint Mark. The leaders of the three major Esferian economies are meeting at a famous palace that once served as the residence for the Marshals of Dalimbar built by Marshal Petrov Oborin and now hosts state and cultural events. Accompanying the Giovannilandian King and Prime Minister are Tarquino Albio-Tertullio, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Flavio Lavandino, Minister of Trade, while the Dalimbari and Saint Markan delegations will similarly feature other high officials of each nation. The three countries are hoping to strengthen ties between each other and propose ideas for new partnerships, at this cordial moment during the 4th Rugby World Cup that Dalimbar is hosting. We at the Nuntikarta Giovanniterrana will continue to watch the developments of this important occasion and deliver live news to all our readers.

  8. Kaisah, Dalimbar — The Giovannilandian Rugby Report is at full steam! Welcome once more, I am your news correspondent Madalena Vindemia here at Dalimbar and today I'll be talking about our national team's performance in the latest matchday against Varanius, and what our victory means for the future of our team in the compeition. Matchday VI: Giovanniland 17-0 Varanius (Halftime: 10-0) Penalty: Terentia Antone-Gilvo (36') Try & Conversion: Kornelio Fabio-Lauro (10'), Fausto Tavallani (55') After two matches against our Auran neighbors in Zoran and Saint Mark, the Giovannilandian team turned its attention to its Andolian neighbors Varanius! It was a very high stakes match for both teams, with Giovanniland having the possibility to ensure qualification with a win, and Varanius needing a win to stay alive in the competition, aside from historically and current negative relations between the two nations. As such, the match was full of attempts and opportunities for both teams to score. It was our team that took the initiative ten minutes in, with loosehead prop Kornelio scoring the first try of the game and converting it as well, and tighthead prop Terentia adding to the score with a penalty to make the score 10-0 for Giovanniland at halftime. Last but not least, in the second half, openside flanker Fausto cemented the Giovannilandian win by achieving a further try-convert, scoring 17 points for our team to match the same amount of points scored against Saint Mark two matchdays ago (however, in the occasion, Saint Mark had scored 12 points as opposed to none from Varanius). Elsewhere in Group B, the big news is that Giovanniland has now confirmed qualification!! Depending on the result of the last match against Rivalfiume, we will confirm our second place if we win, while a loss could see us relegated to third by either Saint Mark or Saranzio, depending on which one of them wins. Meanwhile, Zoran continues their undefeated streak by winning against Saranzio and have now confirmed their first place qualification. The other match in the group was Saint Mark against Rivalfiume, won by our Auran neighbors, increasing the chance of Markan qualification while putting Rivalfiume in a tougher situation as they face our team next. Meanwhile, Varanius joins Apexiala in the list of eliminated Group B, with no matches left to play and a sixth-place finish. Overall, it has been a good group stage for Giovanniland, and the team has recovered from early hiccups such as the draw with Saranzio and loss to Zoran. King Giovanni VI, which is visiting Dalimbar and will meet with the Dalimbari and Saint Markan leaders for a state dinner soon, also praised the team for its performance and wished the team good luck in future matches. This is reporter Madalena Vindemia signing off, as our TV channel will move on to non-sports news. See you in two days for the Rugby Report about Matchday 7!
  9. SPORTRAVEL Iconic Rugby Stadiums of Giovanniland: Part Five Posted 10/04/1423 SporTravel continues to be at full steam! We're posting once more another part of our series of showcasing interesting rugby stadiums within Giovanniland, the fourth during this 4th Rugby World Cup alone. In recent news, our national rugby team got its second win of the tournament, against Saint Mark, after losing to reigning champions Zoran, and in the most recent matchday enjoyed a bye that will help the team prepare for its next two matches against Varanius and Rivalfiume. While this all happens, we hope to have been satisfying Giovannilandians and sport-loving tourists that might want to visit some of the best rugby pitches and stadiums in Giovanniland, even when they're not actively having games, to appreciate these beautiful buildings and the rugby sport itself. Therefore, without further ado, here are three more stadiums that we wish to showcase, this time all from teams in the Andolian Conference that were present at the Premier National Rugby League of 1422. Arena dil Rivo Irto, Urbevittori, Feragia - Capacity: 40,115 An arena with a breathtaking view of the Irto River, this arena is home to the Ursi de Urbevittori! In the 1422 edition of the Premier National Rugby League, the Ursi enjoyed a respectable fourth place finish, barely missing third place by one point to Li Insulari and second place by four points to the Aquile Andoliavillesi. The team, former champions most recently in 1412, are looking to end a decade-long drought in the next championship, and it seems fairly possible given how close they were this time to a spot in the playoffs. Arena Montandolia, L'Abertura, Kordelleria - Capacity: 15,905 Have you ever wished to visit a rugby stadium in the middle of a vast mountain range? Then, the Arena Montandolia will be a good place for you! The arena is located in L'Abertura, the largest city of the sparsely populated Kordelleria region, where travelers are able to find a quite iconic arena surrounded by the nearby mountains! The city is named after its strategic location at a valley within the mountain chain, and is known for the altitude of over 2,000 meters that often makes players from the coasts of Andoliaville or Porto Violeta take some time to adapt! Its home team, called Ovalsfera Montana, oscilates between the premier and second leagues of national rugby, and this time secured their stay in the top league with a fifth-place finish. Stadio Urbi Sekundie, Sekundia, Doruna - Capacity: 35,042 Last but not least, we take a look at Stadio Urbi Sekundie, meaning the stadium of the city of Sekundio! This arena is home to the Serpi Sekundiani rugby team that was unfortunately relegated to the second league after finishing at the bottom of the Andolian Conference in 1422. This isn't unusual, and the team that will play in their place in 1423, the Unio Emunika, commonly switches places with them in relegation and promotion as well. The Serpi themselves were a stronger contender two or three decades ago, last winning the title in 1397, and have since then declined. Thank you for reading another part of our series about showcasing rugby stadiums in Giovanniland! Feel free to wish the Giovannilandian national rugby team good luck in its next match against Varanius, or post any suggestions for future rugby-themed articles. Remember, we accept suggestions for rugby stadiums in our official email, sportravel@giovamail.com!
  10. Kaisah, Dalimbar — Welcome once more to the Giovannilandian Rugby Report, I am your news correspondent Madalena Vindemia here at Dalimbar to cover our national team's performance! Following our previous rugby report about the draw with Saranzio and win over Apexiala, two Nuran nations, we bring things closer to home by talking about the loss against Zoran and win against Saint Mark, two neighboring nations of Aura! Matchday III: Giovanniland 0–7 Zoran (Halftime: 0-0) Matchday IV: Giovanniland 17–12 Saint Mark (Halftime: 3-7) Drop Goal: Blasio Amorantiano (6') Try & Conversion: Paldena Lartidiano (44'), Markio Telliano Ulpio (75') In Matchday 3, the Giovannilandian National Rugby Team met the The Zoranian Sun Hawks, champions of the past two Rugby World Cups. As anticipated, it was a very difficult and low-scoring match, similar to the first matchday against Saranzio. Both teams were very active on the attack and good on the defense for the entirety of the first half, with no tries, penalties or drop goals scored at all from either team, although in Giovanniland's side, our loosehead prop Kornelio came very close to scoring a try. During half time, the coach congratulated the Giovannilandians for holding against the highest ranked team, and pushed the team to continue the strategy. Unfortunately, that did not work, with Twah'kohi Agasgani of Zoran scoring a try and conversion at the second half. Still, with only one try-convert, one can argue that our team played well against the reigning champions! Two days later, our team met the other Auran squad in Group B, the Saint Markan Royal Rugby Team, also known as the Lions. Out of all matches featuring Giovanniland so far, this one was the most active! Blasio, the reserve hooker that had replaced the injured Samanta Alba-Nyima, started his debut very well with a drop goal for Giovanniland right at the start. However, due to errors by our team during the first half, it was the Saint Markans that held the lead at halftime, after Welhelo Saylor scored a try and converted it. This prompted a change in tactics by the coach Sabina for the second half, focusing on counter-attacks, which worked very well! Four minutes into the second half, our backside flanker Paldena brought Giovanniland to a 10-7 lead after a try-convert, although this would later be undone by another try scored by Saint Mark, this time from their player Donovan Elkhart, that made the score 10-12. The Giovannilandians continued fighting until the end, and with five minutes to spare, Markio scored the decisive try and converted to bring victory to our team with a score of 17-12! The current state of our group, Group B, shows Zoran right at the top with 16 points, as they have won every match so far, including their most recent 13-3 victory against our Andolian enemies to the west, Varanius, which we will meet next in a match surely to be exciting! Another impressive team is Saranzio, tied with Giovanniland at 10 points, although they have yet to face the group leaders, which could prove decisive in deciding which one of us two retains second place. In fourth, fifth, and sixth places, we have three teams tied at eight points—Saint Mark, Rivalfiume, and Varanius! All three are neck and neck to see which one could get the fourth place spot and qualify to the next stage. These teams also matter directly to us, with the two latter being the ones we've yet to play with. Last-placed in the group, meanwhile, is the nation of Apexiala that has failed to score a single point and is eliminated from the cup. Furthermore, for our viewers to know all about the 4th Rugby World Cup and its other groups as well, with two days to go in the group stage, the Nuntikarta Giovanniterrana has prepared a list of what every of the 28 teams in the RWC could do in order to qualify and get the best position for the knockout stage, using a lot of mathematics. Above, you can see a table with standings and each team's matches in the two remaining matchdays, which will prove useful in seeing the mathematical scenarios! Group A Ostronia: Already qualified, should ideally win against Dalimbar in MD7 if they want to retain first place, otherwise qualify in second. Dalimbar: Almost surely qualified, a win in either match already ensures at least second place, and winning both matches will have them switch places with Ostronia. Teralyon: Draw, win, or even a mild loss against H&J ensures qualification and third place at least (with a slight chance of placing second). Would only be eliminated if they lose badly; and H&J, Sekiya and Ionia perform well enough in their matches to match Teralyon's 12 points and exceed the point differential. H&J: Guarantees qualification with a win and a draw, possibly reaching third or even second place if Teralyon and Dalimbar fare badly at the end. If they lose against Teralyon, or especially against Sekiya, things could go badly and elimination would be likely if Sekiyan and Ionian performance at these two last matchdays ramps up the pace. Sekiya & Ionia: These two teams share the same points, although Ionia is significantly worse due to a -68 point differential against Sekiya's -14, and the fact they still face hosts Dalimbar. With both teams still having two matches each, winning is absolutely a must to displace H&J from fourth place, as well as hoping for each other's losses. One of them qualifying almost surely means the other is eliminated, the two of them winning the last two matchdays to reach 12 points and then somehow displacing Teralyon by turning their point differentials around is "mathematically possible" but realistically nearly impossible. Larxia: With only a draw in the first matchday and then only losses after that, things are very rough for Larxia. They could only ever qualify in fourth place, and for that, winning against their direct competitors Sekiya and Ionia, as well as hoping that H&J loses their two last matches, is the only path to the knockout stage for the Andolian team. Group B Zoran: Almost surely qualified, and a win in either of the two matches ensures a first place qualification. Giovanniland & Saranzio: For either of these two teams with 10 points, winning one of their matches will bring them to almost certain qualification, and merely drawing the other should be enough. Saranzio may have things a bit tougher with their next match against Zoran; but winning against their direct competition, Saint Mark, on the last match will make things easier. Giovanniland meets Varanius and Rivalfiume, and scoring wins over them also slows down direct competition, since in Group B the gap between the 2nd and 6th placed teams is a mere 2 points! Saint Mark: The next match against Rivalfiume is very important, both teams having 8 points at the moment, and should be ideally won. From there, another win against Saranzio is ideal, although a draw could be enough to maintain at least their current 4th place. Rivalfiume: Looking at the other side of the coin, Rivalfiume should win against Saint Mark, and improve their point differential as well so as to hopefully win any ties that happen in points, which they are currently losing. There is a tough challenge ahead in the last match, which happens to be against us, and to ensure qualification at least a draw here would be optimal. Varanius: With only one match left, namely against us, Varanius must win this match to even have a chance at qualifying. However, that's only one part of the road, as the team will be rooting for a draw between Saint Mark and Rivalfiume, and then for these teams to lose their last matches against Saranzio and us respectively, to hang on to a possible fourth place. Apexiala: Eliminated from contention. Group C Overthinkers & Cambria: Both already qualified, and will meet each other at the last group stage matchday, an exciting match to decide which team takes the top spot. Peourouin & Nieubasria: Closing the current top 4 of Group C there are these other two teams with 8 points each, and each of them winning at least one match brings them to almost certain qualification. Peourouin faces Cambria next, which will be tough, but winning against Libterraria last should ensure a place in the knockout stage, whereas Nieubasria has an easier road with Einherfell and Cyrylic next. Libterraria & Cyrylic: Both teams have 4 points, both teams need more, and the two are facing each other next! If either of them wants qualification, winning this next match is a must, and then the other one against Nieubasria (for Cyrylic) or Peourouin (for Libterraria) as well, since they are also direct competition. Anything less than that will almost surely mean elimination. Einherfell: Eliminated from contention. Group D United Adaikes: Already qualified, and first place can be secured with a win and a draw at least (or only a single win, if Fujai fails to win both matches). Ryxtylopia: The former top of the group has a bye and then prepares to meet the current top of the group. Retaking their former position means relying on United Adaikes losing both their matches, but an easier ask would be simply ensuring qualification with a draw. Even a loss would qualify them in most cases, with an elimination very unlikely (all of the following would need to happen: Kalmach would need to win both matches, Fujai would need to win in MD6, and Dilber would also need to win twice as well as reversing the point differential deficit). Fujai: With the same points as Ryxtylopia, but two matches to go, qualification is even easier for Fujai, with a draw already ensuring it, and the team possibly eyeing even first place if United Adaikes fares badly in their two next matches. Kalmach: A win against either United Adaikes or Fujai is needed to qualify, with two wins a possibility so they get a better placement. If their results are losses or draws, it could be dangerous because Aftokratoria and Dilber both still have two matches left to play and could surpass Kalmach. Aftokratoria & Dilber: Mirroring the dispute between Libterraria & Cyrylic, both teams have 4 points, need more points, and will face each other (but in the last matchday, not the next). Whoever wins this duel, as well as the other match (Aftokratoria meets Fujai and Dilber meets Arifiyyah), could be well positioned to save their rugby campaign and join the top 4, but they will also need to hope for Kalmach to lose their matches. Arifiyyah: Also with 4 points, but at the bottom of the group, Arifiyyah must hope that their direct competitors Aftokratoria and Dilber draw, ensure that they win their only remaining match against Dilber, and then pray for Kalmach to not score even a single point in their two last matches and to have a worse point differential. A combination of several different requirements indeed. And after all this world of different possibilities and exciting maths and combinations, this edition of the Giovannilandian Rugby Report comes to a close! See you next time when we cover results of the last two matches against Varanius and Rivalfiume, and by the way, wish our team good luck in them!
  11. (For Matchday 4) SPORTRAVEL Iconic Rugby Stadiums of Giovanniland: Part Four Posted 04/04/1423 Welcome, visitors, once more to SporTravel! Our site has definitely surged in popularity during this Rugby World Cup, and there have already been calls for us to release our next set of featured rugby stadiums of Giovanniland. We’re therefore glad to announce that everyone’s wishes have been granted! Please enjoy this selection of three more rugby stadiums across our country. Arena Silvana, Abrentopole, Abrenosto - Capacity: 46,729 This stadium is the home of the most famous and successful rugby team from the Abrenosto region of Giovanniland, Unio Abrenta. This name means Abrentan Union, and their stadium can be translated from Giovannese to Arena of the Forest. In the 1422 edition of the Premier National Rugby League, the Unio Abrenta barely missed entering the playoffs, finishing 3rd of 6 Auran teams whereas their rivals Gorilli Giovanniani and Turma Quorivana advanced, the latter becoming the winner. Arena Flavio Kastri, Zampessa, Lavanda Prima - Capacity: 33,401 Closing off the group of home stadiums from the 6 Auran teams that played in the 1422 Premier Rugby League, we present the Arena Flavio Kastri, whose home team is Lampi Lavandi (the Lavender Elephants), placed fourth in the Auran Conference. One spotlight is that visitors at the arena can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountain shown in the above picture’s background! It is called Monte Mipano IV, celebrating one of the Lavandulan Empire’s most powerful rulers in ancient times. The stadium itself is named after Flavio Kastri, a famous player from this team who went on to play for the national rugby team in the past as well. Abria Arena, Bayabella, Altana - Capacity: 48,042 Last but not least, we move to Andolia to take a look at the home stadium from the Andolian Conference’s surprise winners this 1422 season, Unio Altaniana! With a whopping 62 points, they beat the established teams Aquile Andoliavillesi (2nd place with 44 points) and Li Insulari (3rd place with 41 points), whose stadiums we have already covered in Part 3 of the rugby stadiums series. Although the Unio Altaniana was knocked out in the semifinals by eventual winners Turma Quorivana, they successfully beat the Gorilli to earn the third place medal, in their best ever finish for the Premier League! And that’s it for Part 4 of our series of showcasing rugby stadiums in Giovanniland! Thank you for reading, and feel free to wish the Giovannilandian national rugby team good luck in its next match against Auran neighbors of Saint Mark in the comments, or post any suggestions for future rugby-themed articles. Remember, we accept suggestions for rugby stadiums in our official email, sportravel@giovamail.com!
  12. Giovannilandian Premier National Rugby League Prima Liga Nationale Giovanniterrana Ovalsfere The Giovannilandian Premier National Rugby League is the most prestigious national rugby competition of Giovanniland. It features twelve teams, six from Aura and six from Andolia. Each team plays a double round-robin with its fellow continent teams, in addition to one match with each of the other conference's teams, for a total of 16 games. After that, the top team from one conference plays the second place team from another conference, and the winners of each of these semi-finals meet in the ultimate decision match whereas the losers fight for a third place consolation. Scoring works similarly to the Rugby World Cup, with the standard system awarding four points for a win, two points for a draw, and none for a loss. However, there are two categories of bonus points to encourage teams to perform to their fullest. The first is that losing by 7 or fewer points awards an extra point, so that even when losing a team can still gain from a close match. The second is that scoring 4 or more tries in a match also awards an extra point, for teams to seek to be active to the fullest instead of stalling a match after winning. The Premier Rugby League is the most famous tier of Giovannilandian rugby, but it certainly isn't the only one! It is connected with the Second Rugby League in a system where the bottom two teams from each Premier League conference are relegated to it and replaced by the top scoring Second Rugby League team. A similar system connects the Second Rugby League with lower levels of national competitions as well as regional and prefectural ones. Below is a visualization of the 1422 season's final standings and playoff results. Auran Conference: Team Home Stadium W D L PF PA PD TF TA TB LB Pts Gorilli Giovanniani Stadio Vittor II 11 0 5 408 312 96 56 36 7 1 52 Turma Quorivana Stadio Giordano 10 1 5 363 281 82 41 28 4 4 50 Unio Abrenta Arena Silvana 9 0 7 330 295 35 32 25 3 4 43 Lampi Lavandi Arena Flavio Kastri 8 1 7 280 299 -19 26 24 2 5 41 Li Nauti Stadio dei Nauti 5 2 9 275 288 -13 25 30 1 5 30 Vipere Violete Arena Abreo-Florino 3 0 13 196 377 -181 19 42 1 1 14 Andolian Conference: Team Home Stadium W D L PF PA PD TF TA TB LB Pts Unio Altaniana Abria Arena 12 0 4 457 250 207 64 23 10 4 62 Aquile Andoliavillesi Stadio Flaviano 8 2 6 334 248 86 36 31 4 4 44 Li Insulari Stadio Insulare 8 1 7 272 283 -11 32 27 2 5 41 Ursi de Urbevittori Arena dil Rivo Irto 7 2 9 309 290 19 23 23 3 5 40 Ovalsfera Montana Arena Montandolia 7 2 8 262 318 -56 20 33 3 3 38 Serpi Sekundiani Stadio Urbi Sekundie 4 1 12 139 384 -245 13 51 0 2 20 Legend: Wins | Draws | Losses | Points For | Points Against | Point Differential | Tries For | Tries Against | Try Bonus Points | Losing Bonus Points | Points Total The Vipere Violete and Serpi Sekundiani, lowest ranking teams in each of the conferences, were replaced by the Meli Medottonesi and Unio Emunika respectively, highest ranking of each Second Rugby League conference, who will play in the next season of the Premier Rugby League starting soon. As for the playoffs in the 1422 season, the semifinals took place between the Gorilli and Aquile, and Unio Altaniana and Turma Quorivana respectively. The Aquile easily defeated the Gorilli 33–19, whereas the game between the Unio and Turma turned out to be a close 14–14 draw at normal time, followed by the Turma winning in extra time after a drop goal. Last but not least, the third place match between the Unio and Gorilli resulted in the Unio winning 25–20, and the ultimate decision between the Aquile and Turma had the Quatis edge out their opponents by a single point, 16–15. The Turma was crowned 1422 Giovannilandian Rugby Champions, defending their title from 1421, whereas the Aquile failed to recover the championship that they last held in 1419.
  13. Kaisah, Dalimbar — Welcome to the fourth edition of the Giovannilandian Rugby Report! I am Madalena Vindemia, the main reporter here at Dalimbar to cover the Giovannilandian National Rugby Team's performance at the 4th Rugby World Cup! Some of you may remember me for providing coverage of Kharventhin events during the 2nd Summer Esferiad, and I am happy to announce that I have now been promoted! The former reporter, Karlo, has also earned a promotion and is now the director of our sports coverage. Congratulations to both of us! I'm here at Kaisah, the city hosting two rugby stadiums that has been holding all matches of Group B for the entirety of the group stage. Together with Giovanniland in the group are three neighboring nations—Saint Mark, Varanius, and current champions Zoran—and three other nations from the distant lands of Nur, namely Rivalfiume, Saranzio and Apexiala. It was against the two latter that our first two game in the Rugby World Cup happened, and it's about these matches we'll talk! Matchday I: Giovanniland 0–0 Saranzio (Halftime: 0-0) Matchday II: Giovanniland 13–7 Apexiala (Halftime: 6-0) Penalty: Markio Telliano Ulpio (15') Drop Goal: Samanta Alba-Nyima (32') Try & Conversion: Kornelio Fabio-Lauro (53') The first match was played against Saranzio, a newcomer to the tournament that has been doing very well for the first time! Unlike what the scoreless draw might tell, both halfs of the game were fairly exciting! The Saranzio National Rugby Union, a team very focused on offense, and the Giovannilandian National Rugby Team, a more defensive team but still very skilled in scoring, each had their fair share of almost-tries! Giovannilandian frontline players were very active, and our team's captain Markio came the closest to scoring right at the end, but missed the penalty, ending the game with the same score it started. Then, two days later, the team was in a significantly improved shape, with lessons on how to make better use of opportunities, and decisively won against Apexiala, another nation whose team has entered for the first time. Markio avenged his penalty miss in the game against Saranzio by successfully scoring another penalty this time, and Samanta contributed another three points to the score with a drop goal. After the first half completely dominated by Giovanniland, loosehead prop Kornelio added the icing on the cake with a try and a conversion! Our team stepped back for the rest of the game after that, saving efforts for the big game against current champions Zoran that will happen in two days—this allowed the Apexialan team to score a try and convert late in the game, but by then the game was solidly decided in favor of our team. In other Group B news, Saranzio is currently tied with Giovanniland on points, six for both, but tops the ranking due to their match against Varanius ending in an insanely high score of 30–24. Zoran, the current champions, won the game against fellow Auran nation Saint Mark, although both Varanius and Saint Mark are still in a good spot given their Matchday I wins. The situation is tougher for Apexiala and Rivalfiume, at the bottom with no points. See you for the next report! We will return in two days with news from our match against Zoran and all about the latest happenings in the 4th Rugby World Cup.
  14. SPORTRAVEL Iconic Rugby Stadiums of Giovanniland: Part Three Posted 30/03/1423 SporTravel is at full steam! We're posting once more another part of our series of showcasing interesting rugby stadiums within Giovanniland. Our national rugby team has had its first match in Dalimbar resulting in a scoreless draw against Saranzio, so perhaps we could all give them some well wishes and good luck. (feel free to post a comment!) Meanwhile, Giovannilandians and sport-loving tourists might want to visit some of the best rugby pitches and stadiums here, even when they're not actively having games, to appreciate these beautiful buildings and the rugby sport itself. Without further ado, let's take a look at the three stadiums we've featured today: Arena Abreo-Florine, Porto Violeto, Primolido - Capacity: 68,042 The Arena Abreo-Florine is the main stadium of the second largest city in Giovanniland, also known as the busiest seaport with which the nation trades with Esferos. The home team is called the Vipere Violete, the violet snakes. As for the namesake of the stadium, it is the famous Abreo-Florino family that includes the Tommaso and Giorgio brothers that incentivized the country to become an industrial nation while being Prime Ministers. The reason for that is because Aurelio de Abreo-Florino (father of Kandido de Abreo-Florino, also a prime minister) funded the construction of the stadium during the mid-14th century, because rugby was his favorite sport. Stadio Flaviano, Andoliavilla, Lido Flavi - Capacity: 82,224 The largest stadium in the Andolian part of Giovanniland, its home team is one of the most successful rugby teams of the nation, the Aquile Andoliavillesi, which has won the national league several times. The namesake of the stadium is Flavio, a general under Emperor Giovanni II the Great who led the first expedition to Andolia and later incorporated the northern coast, also named after him. Just like the stadium, the city where it's located is also the largest in Giovandolia, with 640,816 inhabitants. Andoliavilla certainly offers many historical tourist attractions, such as a vast museum, and serves as a starting point for tourists who want to explore the rest of the region, besides also having a very busy port just like Porto Violeto. Stadio Insulare, Islamagna, Altana - Capacity: 54,400 The Stadio Insulare, as the name says, is located on the island chain off the northern Andolian coast, called Isle Annovi as the Giovannese landed here in the new year. After the empire’s fall, the city gained its current name and expanded far beyond the original settlement and currently holds the ranking of 7th largest in the country. It's also unique among other major cities in the country in that several sports facilities for different sports are located just across each other, as seen in the picture! The rugby team that plays here is called Li Insulari. And after these three stadiums showcase, we finish another part of our series! Thank you for reading, good and safe travels if you are looking to visit rugby stadiums in Giovanniland, and good luck to our national team! 15. SPORTRAVEL Iconic Rugby Stadiums of Giovanniland: Part Two Posted 25/03/1423 Rugby fans, remember us from the last Rugby World Cup? Indeed, we're happy to announce that SporTravel will continue our series of showcasing interesting rugby stadiums within Giovanniland. While our national rugby team prepares to fight for the title in Dalimbar, we hope that our posts will help Giovannilandians and sport-loving tourists to visit some of the best rugby pitches and stadiums in Giovanniland, even when they're not actively having games, to appreciate these beautiful buildings and the rugby sport itself. For some context on Giovannilandian rugby, the sport was introduced here around a year ago in the early 14th century to the northern Lavender Island coast, with the city of Quorivo hosting the first team and stadium (Stadio Giordano, that hosted games in the II Summer Esferiad). In 1325, the National Rugby League of Giovanniland was founded by various teams across the nation, and in 1329 the first national team was founded and featured some of the best players from notable teams. Its most successful result has been 3rd place in the 1st Rugby World Cup and the I & II Summer Esferiads! Stadio Kyezeno I, Uryde, Lavanda Prima - Capacity: 44,204 Just like the famous Stadio Giordano, the Stadio Zodeno I is another stadium in the northern part of Lavender Island, although smaller and less known than its western neighbor in Quoriv. Nevertheless, it hosts the notable Ursi Urydesi team, which means Bears of Uryde in Giovannese! The stadium is located on the outskirts of the city, not far from the old city center, a place full of wonders for tourists interested in Giovannilandian history. This is also the source for the stadium name, which honors the erstwhile ruler of the Uryde city-state back in ancient times that then went on to conquer neighboring city-states and founded the Lavandulan Empire, which lasted for more than a millennium. Stadio Vittor II, Giovannia Capital City - Capacity: 41,920 Whereas the Stadio Purpuro is the largest stadium in the capital and also home to the national team, the Stadio Vittor II is home to the most famous team from Giovannia, the Gorilli Giovanniani. This team is a very successful squad in the national rugby league and the oldest team of Giovanniland that doesn’t hail from the northern coast. Once called simply by its home team's name, the stadium later changed its name to honor one of the Giovannian Emperors, namely the one who encouraged the establishment of trading posts in different continents including Nur. Stadio dei Nauti, Annavilla, Primolido - Capacity: 33,510 The eponymous rugby team, Li Nauti, has played at this stadium for a long time, a coastal stadium in the nation’s fourth largest city Annavilla. Its name honors the seafaring (nauti, plural of nauta, in Giovannese) Abrentan people that came from Saint Mark and then set foot in southwestern Lavender Island, founding the Republic of Abrento. Their arrival into the island contributed a lot to what would in the future become Giovannilandian culture, mixed with indigenous traits such as the Lavandulan culture in the north. That's all for the second part of this series! Thank you for reading, and we wish you good and safe travels if you are looking to visit these and other rugby places in Giovanniland. 19. Giovannilandian 1423 Election Results! Porto Violeto, Giovanniland — In a surprising turn of events, Elisa Anario-Silva of the Partito Laboristo is slated to become the new Prime Minister of Giovanniland once the transition period ends and the new Senato chooses the leader of Giovanniland for a period of at most five years. Elisa's party attained 133 seats in the national legislature in comparison to the 120 seats won by the Partito Soquale-Verde of the presumably outgoing Prime Minister, Amore Gile Abrente. Although the governing power stays in the hands of the same left-wing coalition (PL, PSV and the far-left Partito Komunista), it is Giovannilandian tradition to always have the Prime Minister of a coalition hail from the party with most seats in it. A total of 18,230,986 voters came to the elections, which is a turnout of 75.87% from the total of 24,028,155 citizens with at least 18 years of age. Voters cast their votes for the general election according to their electoral district, where each party chooses one representative to run. Regions and municipalities also elected members to their local legislatures (the Kuria), which in turn choose the leader for the given administrative division. The results confirm regional trends seen in previous elections, such as the Partito Violetista's strong appelation as a regional party in northern Lavender Island, as well as the domination of left-wing parties in major cities, bringing a large number of votes for their coalition's candidates. Left-wing voters also prevail in the very populous Giovannia Magna, Altana and Lido Flavi regions, whereas the also densely populated southwestern coast of Lavender Island, namely the Primolido and Abrenosto regions, leans more to the right. Other political analysts focused on a more national overview of trends as seen in various polls. The graph below gathers together several polls by different sources from the start of the year until three days before the elections, and then the actual results themselves with a prevalent bigger dot at the end. Polls aren't always accurate and only serve to show a snapshot of a specific moment rather than to predict, and this is shown by the fact most polls were predicting a Soquale-Verde win or at least a tie, but instead the Labristas gained a 13-seat advantage over their coalition allies. The surge of the Respublikanos, as well as the fall of the Librale-Demokratas, were also movements not well caught by the polls, whereas for the other parties the polls were more or less in line with results. In any case, the final results were 133 seats for the Labristas (26.6%), 120 for the Soquale-Verdes (24%) and 72 for the Komunistas in the governing coalition (14.4%), a joint result of 325 seats which makes 65% of the 500-seat Senato. The other 175 seats represent the opposition parties, with the Respublikanos' 111 (22.2%) accounting for more than half of them, followed by 43 for the Librale-Demokratas (8.6%), 17 for the Violetistas (3.4%) and 4 for the Patriotas (0.8%). Parties who gained seats in comparison to the 1418 Senato were the PK, PL and PR, whereas the PSV, PLD, PV and PP lost seats. These shifts, besides the obvious effects that they will have in changing the premiership from Amore Gile Abrente to Elisa Anario-Silva, also leave the PR's leader Lauro de Abreo-Florino in a much stronger position to potentially challenge the left-wing coalition in the next elections. Lauro, from the famous Abreo-Florino family that has given several Prime Ministers to Giovanniland in the past, most notably the brothers Tommaso and Kesar that started national industralization in the 12th century, will certainly enjoy influence over his peers from other parties, such as the PLD's Vinikio Lamponi and the PV's Zodeno Fenestella. Also a rising star in politics is the communist leader Valerio Visellio Larone, whose leadership in the party has succeeded in rebuilding the party's influence in Giovannilandian politics after a decline from its previous prominence in the late 13th century. Meanwhile, in regards to the overall national vote for the parties, the Labristas led with 4,593,621 or 25.2% of the votes, followed by 4,215,195 or 23.12% for the Soquale-Verdes, 3,442,918 or 18.88% for the Respublikanos, 2,758,706 or 15.13% for the Komunistas, 1,871,580 or 10.27% for the Librale-Demokratas, 1,095,264 or 6.01% for the Violetistas, and lastly 253,702 or 1.39% for the Patriots. Due to the nature of the elections being decided in each prefecture and then summed up to make the national Senato, there can be disparities between the popular vote share and seats distribution, this time benefitting mostly the Respublikanos at the cost of the Violetistas. The final legislation composition is shown below: With elections concluded, we look forward to what the future holds for the country under new leadership. Although Giovanniland has a new leader from a different party, most stances on key national issues and political ideologies are fairly similar between the outgoing Mrs Abrente and the incoming Mrs Anario-Silva. After all, the new Prime Minister can rely on her predecessor's successes, including but certainly not limited to the Quorivo & Kharventhin Esferiad, the development of environmentally-friendly technology to maintain Giovanniland's position in the group of pioneer nations in this field, and continued improvement in social and economic standards across the nation.
