  1. "Good afternoon Giovanniland, welcome to another Chess Report! I am Karlo Nakamura-Edrense and I'll present the match results and group standings for the games that happened for Matchday 5 of the Giovannilandian Chess Championship. How time flies, the group stage has already come to a close... but without further ado, let's talk about the match results!" Group A Group B GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, 2699 (-6) 1/2-1/2 IM Markella Viator-Tamudio, 2475 (+6) GM Ottavia Zorteya, 2656 (+4) 1-0 CM Klara Luminara-Tenzino, 2387 (-4) GM Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone, 2682 (-15) 0-1 IM Alba Vergilio-Silva, 2488 (+15) GM Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, 2591 (+5) 1-0 CM Pietra Alledio, 2419 (-5) Group C Group D GM Tiberina Vestrigio, 2703 (+5) 1-0 IM Gepelle Gormo-Pasano, 2534 (-5) GM Gabriello Martio-Lampadio, 2562 (-13) 0-1 IM Margerito Alboquerko, 2464 (+13) GM Kyro Lartidio-Velanio, 2662 (+6) 1-0 IM Augustino Neuriani Kalburno, 2504 (-6) GM Gustavo Takeda, 2643 (+5) 1-0 IM Markellina Olibrio-Augusti, 2470 (-5) Group E Group F GM Sergio Amorante-Aquilano, 2720 (+5) 1-0 IM Maurikio Feligiano, 2505 (-5) GM Vittoriano Sevana, 2583 (+5) 1-0 CM Laura Arboreto Amorante, 2401 (-5) GM Raffella Quadrigaro, 2808 (-17) 0-1 IM Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, 2493 (+17) GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, 2632 (+6) 1-0 IM Adriano Atilio-Spurio, 2468 (-6) Group G Group H GM Oralino Kyenze Gormo, 2654 (+5) 1-0 IM Paloma Arelliano-Altada, 2470 (-5) GM Gallio Kervario Hortense, 2597 (+5) 1-0 CM Amanda Gilvano Valli, 2385 (-5) GM Karlo Neurino-Sousa, 2714 (+6) 1-0 GM Alba Santi-Abrenti, 2547 (-6) GM Sereno Belmonte, 2658 (-7) 1/2-1/2 CM Lorentia Gavione, 2360 (+7) Karlo started talking as the results appeared on the screen: "There isn't a more exciting way to ending the group stage other than matches featuring the grandmasters of each group, but also lots of interesting results and upsets. Leaving the more interesting matches for last, we have Groups D, E, and G whose matches went more or less as expected and served to solidify the qualified players' standings. We also have the interesting case of Groups A and H, where two grandmasters Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso and Sereno Belmonte failed to win against their respective opponents Markella Viator-Tamudio and Lorentia Gavione, but nevertheless still advance while the two latter players are eliminated." "Moving on to the interesting results, in Group B the grandmaster Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra soundly defeated Pietra Alledio, continuing their surprising recovery after losing twice in a row at the start. Meanwhile, Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone unexpectedly lost to Alba Vergilio-Silva despite a 200 ELO difference, and the other match's result then means that Lavinia has lost her qualifying spot to Lavanda! A similar situation also happened in Group D, whose Margerito Alboquerko is now advancing after unexpectedly edging out Gabriello Martio-Lampadio." "Last but not least, we have Group F! One of its matches, Guillermo Uryde-Amorino vs. Adriano Atilio-Spurio, went as expected. But the other did not: Raffella Quadrigaro lost to Vittor Nyima-Lyamo despite being the highest ranked player in the tournament! Unfortunately for Raffella, she's shockingly been eliminated from the tournament, and you will see more about that in group stage rankings now." Looks like Groups A, D, and H have sent two grandmasters to the knockout stage each, while the others have one grandmaster and one non-grandmaster player qualified. Group B, for example, is an outlier because Candidate Master Isidoro Artena-Santi qualified as first place at the expense of 2nd place Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, who barely made it in instead of Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone due to having more wins. The other four groups yet to be mentioned, however, feature a grandmaster at the top and another player as second place. For example, Group C's Margerito Alboquerko has the exact same stats as Gepelle Gormo-Pasano and even a lower rating, but was saved by the head-to-head record, as he won against Gepelle on the first round. "Group E and G similarly feature other potential dark horses, namely Giulio Punso-Lodago and Amanda Gilvano Valli respectively, with the latter even leading her group for the most time until Gallio Kervario Hortense took her place. Last but not least, Group F's former first place Raffella Quadrigaro did not hold to her position, as both Guillermo Uryde-Amorino and Vittor Nyima-Lyamo passed her. The multiple-time former champion and highest-rated player in the tournament is sadly eliminated, whereas the defending champion and a promising newcomer advance. This concludes the lineup of players that continue in the championship, so let's take a look at the upcoming matches!" "Here we can see each side of the bracket! One side looks fairly stronger, with seven Grandmasters and one International Master, whereas the other one features four Grandmasters, two Candidate Masters, one International Master and one player yet to win a title. There's a greater representation of Grandmasters this year in comparison to the last, eleven and nine respectively, while the number of Candidate Masters (two) stayed the same and that of International Masters and untitled players decreased. These players will see who advances in round of 16 matches on August 12th and 13th, don't forget to watch them!"
  2. "Hey there Giovanniland, it's time for another Chess Report! For example, Group A's Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso is now qualified as he won against Giorgio Taresmino, while the two players yet to decide their place Ottavia Zorteya and Markella Viator-Tamudio have tied today. Meanwhile, Group B saw the biggest upset of the day when former champion Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone could not defeat Isidoro Artena-Santi and settled for a draw—the only such score in the series of games between the highest and lowest ranked players of each group, as all other Grandmasters successfully won. In Group C, Tiberina Vestrigio is surely qualified as she triumphs past the now-eliminated Giordano Feragi, whereas the match between Gabriello Martio-Lampadio and Gepelle Gormo-Pasano had an interesting queen vs. rook and bishop endgame that Gepelle ended up winning after a blunder by Gabriel, leaving the race for second place fairly open." "Group D saw two expected results, however the same couldn't be said for Group E—Vittoriano Sevana did not defeat Maurikio Feligiano despite having a higher rating, thus eliminating them both, whereas the two now-qualified players Sergio Amorante-Aquilano and Giulio Punso-Lodago fought for who'll get the first place, with Sergio winning. In Group F, where all eyes are cast upon for a reason I'll explain later, the match between Raffella Quadrigaro and Edna Keler Tamara saw the largest point difference in the game, while in a very close match, Guillermo Uryde-Amorino performed a great piece sacrifice to open a chain of pawns that had left the game closed before, edging past Vittor Nyima-Lyamo. Last but not least, in Group G and H all matches went as expected according to player ratings as you can see." In order to remind everyone, in this edition of Giovannilandian Chess Championship the top two of each group advance to the knock-out stage and in these groups we can see a number of different situations. For example, in Groups E, G, H the two qualifying players are already decided, although there's a chance that they switch places in the match days. For Groups A and D we have one guaranteed player in each, Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso and Gustavo Takeda respectively, but the second and third players will decide who gets the coveted spot on the knockout stage." "As for a more interesting situation, let's look at Groups B and C, whereas only one player has truly been mathematically eliminated! Group leaders Isidoro Artena-Santi and Tiberina Vestrigio are safe, but anyone from the second to the fourth place of each group could reasonably achieve a spot, although to the detriment of the others. Special focus on Group B, where only one of the grandmasters Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone and Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra will get to advance. Last but not least, Group F! Remember when I said all eyes are cast upon it? That is because we have three very good players vying for the top two spots—multiple-time former champion Raffella Quadrigaro, defending champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, and aspiring newcomer Vittor Nyima-Lyamo! All of them have had interesting performances so far, and the catch is that none of them is guaranteed to qualify because only half a point separates them. Be sure to follow the matchday of Group F for some exciting happenings, and the other groups as well!"

Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso and Ottavia Zorteya especially had an interesting closed game with almost no mistakes on either side. Meanwhile, in Group B former champion Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone shows she's still strong even after being defeated on group stage last year, as she edged out fellow grandmaster Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra, while Isidoro Artena-Santi continues a strong showing, this time winning against Pietra Alledio. Moving on to Group C, grandmasters Tiberina Vestrigio and Gabriello Martio-Lampadio drew their match that ended in a queen vs. queen standoff, whereas Giordano Feragi stunned viewers after defeating Margerito Alboquerko, coming back after two defeats on the first matchdays." "Next up we have Group D, where the duel of grandmasters Kyro Lartidio-Velanio and Gustavo Takeda ended in a win for the latter, who finished 5th place in the previous championship. Group E's grandmasters Sergio Amorante-Aquilano and Vittoriano Sevana faced off and the former had the upper hand in an interesting pawns-only endgame, while Laura Arboreto Amorante was unexpectedly defeated by Giulio Punso-Lodago, one of the tournament's dark horses as he tops his group. And in Group F, the game between multiple-time former champion Raffella Quadrigaro and defending champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino was certainly awaited! Guillermo, using his favorite Sicilian Defense, unfortunately could not defend against a well-planned infiltration from Raffella's pieces on his castled kingside, thus opening the door for a slow but deadly attack and checkmate." "And now, the two last groups! Group G's grandmaster match had an upset, as Oralino Kyenze Gormo lost to Gallio Kervario Hortense and must now win all remaining matches if he wants a chance at qualifying. Its other match saw Amanda Gilvano Valli cement her leading position as she soundly defeated Vittor Urbano-Allamore. Group H saw Karlo Neurino-Sousa won against Sereno Belmonte, whereas Lorentia Gavione and Rustio Kastellarbo-Abbia settled for a draw." In Group B, we see Isidoro Artena-Santi on the lead and Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone and Pietra Alledio as the main candidates for other spot, whereas in Group D the trio of Gustavo Takeda, Augustino Neuriani Kalburno, and Kyro Lartidio-Velanio all fight for the two spots." "As for Group E, Giulio Punso-Lodago and Sergio Amorante-Aquilano have fairly decided the group already, although perhaps Vittoriano Sevana could have an unlikely comeback. Group F, on the other hand, is similar to Group D in a way of having the three players of Vittor Nyima-Lyamo, Raffella Quadrigaro, and Guillermo Uryde-Amorino fighting for qualification. Last but not least, the spot for Group G's leader Amanda Gilvano Valli looks fairly guaranteed already, whereas other players like Gallio Kervario Hortense, Vittor Urbano-Allamore, Paloma Arelliano-Altada, or even last place Oralino Kyenze Gormo still have chances for the second one. That's all for today, see you in three days for the results and analysis of Matchday 4!"

  5. Islamagna, Altana Region—21:30 International Atomic Time, 4th August 1422 It was a quiet night at one of the Giovannilandian Navy's many coast guard facilities. Located in the main island of the Isle Annovi group, some 81 nautical miles (150 km) away from the Andolian mainland, it served as an important central watchtower in the Darkesian Sea's waters, connecting Giovanniland's Auran and Andolian territories alongside many others across the Andolian coast. However, no matter how quiet it may be, staff are always watching. Klaudia Pinario Levini, one of the officers there, had just arrived to fulfill a night shift as the day shift personnel prepared to rest, and together with her were several other people. Suddenly, a siren starts sounding. Klaudia looks worried, rushing to the panels used to track any suspected movements across Giovannilandian waters. "Unknown ship just detected within the 12 Nm (22 km) limit of Giovannilandian territorial sea!", she noted. Another staff member, Amando Horatio Sousa, asked where it currently was, to which Klaudia replied, "Just off the western Andolian borders near the coastal city of Borioddo, some 135 Nm (250 km) away from this facility." Amando thought, "Hmm... western borders...", and noted, "I do have an idea of who it may be, although we can't be sure." Both of them, alongside other staff present, agreed that it would be best to attempt contacting the ship. Klaudia initiated contact, and soon the ship was to receive a request of identifying themselves. "I hope it's a friendly vessel in an accidental entry into our territorial seas...", she thought as the message was sent. Little did she know much more was to come...

Meanwhile, Markella Viator-Tamudio got his second draw of the tournament, this time against Giorgio Taresmino. Group B, the group of upsets yesterday, featured more of them today! Isidoro Artena-Santi surprised the spectators once more with an unlikely win, this time against Alba Vergilio-Silva, who now has two losses in a row. In the other match, Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone did not manage to win against Pietra Alledio despite an advantage of over 200 ELO points, and a draw had to suffice for the 1420 champion that was eliminated in the group stage in 1421. On the other hand, the matches in Groups C and D went as most people expected." "In Group E, Sergio Amorante-Aquilano started strong in the competition through a defeat of Laura Arboreto Amorante, whereas Giulio Punso-Lodago upset higher-ranked Maurikio Feligiano to maintain a strong performance in the first two days, putting his luck on a well thought-out defensive chess style that quietly awaits a chance to strike. As for the Group F, it looks like Vittor Nyima-Lyamo continues his strong performance, winning twice in a row whereas his opponent Edna Keler Tamara lost twice in a row. However, the most interesting news is that Raffella Quadrigaro, the highest-ranked player in the competition and 2nd place in the last tournament, could not manage to win against Adriano Atilio-Spurio despite a well fought game! A draw was seen by commenters as a weak start, and the multiple-time former champion is likely to need to step up her performance, as he faces current champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino next round." After a brief pause Karlo continued: "Group G's Amanda Gilvano Valli continues her strong showing so far and promises to be one of the tournament's dark horses once more, as she defeated higher-ranked Oralino Kyenze Gormo. Last but not least, in Group H we saw Karlo Neurino-Sousa comfortably win against Lorentia Gavione, whereas Alba Santi-Abrenti drew her second game as well, this time against Rustio Kastellarbo-Abbia. Meanwhile in Groups B, D and E we have one player taking the lead, although still followed closely by others. Last but not least, groups F and G have seen one clear leader, with something in common that both of these players—Vittor Nyima-Lyamo and Amanda Gilvano Valli—aren't grandmasters so we certainly have an interesting situation worth keeping an eye on!" He concludes: "That's all for our Chess Report of the day. Matchday 3 happens during August 3rd and 4th, so stay tuned to watch the games live, including interesting matches between two Grandmasters of each group!"

  8. "Hello Giovanniland! I am the Sports Report host Karlo Nakamura-Edrense, and today, I am proud to announce that we start our special coverage of the 1422 Giovannilandian Chess Championship. Here I will talk about the match results and the group standings, along with some commentary on the matches themselves." "Starting by Group A, we have a win and a draw: Ottavia Zorteya comfortably won their game against Giorgio Taresmino with their use of their favorite opening Queen's Gambit. Meanwhile, in the drawn match between Markella Viator-Tamudio and Klara Luminara-Tenzino, we saw all pieces exchanged early as the players moved to a drawn endgame with only kings and pawns. Meanwhile, Group B had a big surprise when Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra lost against Isidoro Artena-Santi, despite having an advantage of over 200 ELO points. Group C also saw two wins happen, namely Gabriello Martio-Lampadio's expected win over Giordano Feragi featuring a queen sacrifice to checkmate, and Margerito Alboquerko's upset against Gepelle Gormo-Pasano after the latter made an endgame blunder." "Moving on to Group D, there we saw Gustavo Takeda, 5th place in the previous championship, easily defeat Hermione Rustikellio and possibly starting another excellent group stage campaign like last time. On the other hand, the game between Augustino Neuriani Kalburno and Markellina Olibrio-Augusti, with a small ELO rating difference, was one of the shortest ones in this round as the players agreed to draw. In Group E, more draws ensued, with an unexpected tie of Vittoriano Sevana and Giulio Punso-Lodago with a 300 ELO rating difference between them. As for the Group F, named the Group of Death by most spectators, defending champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino started the tournament well by defeating Edna Keler Tamara, whereas Vittor Nyima-Lyamo edged out Adriano Atilio-Spurio after a zugzwang position in the endgame." "And there are two more groups! Group G saw a draw between Gallio Kervario Hortense and Vittor Urbano-Allamore happen after a three-fold repetition, whereas Amanda Gilvano Valli, the previous tournament's dark house, won against higher-ranked Paloma Arelliano-Altada and promises another good performance this year. Last but not least, Group H is the only group with three grandmasters: Sereno Belmonte, Alba Santi-Abrenti, and Karlo Neurino-Sousa. While Karlo enjoyed a bye during the first matchday, Sereno easily defeated his opponent while Alba only achieved a draw." Following the review, Karlo then presented the rankings: Group A P W D L Group B P W D L GM Ottavia Zorteya 1 1 0 0 CM Pietra Alledio 1 1 0 0 IM Markella Viator-Tamudio 1/2 0 1 0 CM Isidoro Artena-Santi 1 1 0 0 CM Klara Luminara-Tenzino 1/2 0 1 0 GM Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone 0 0 0 0 GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso 0 0 0 0 GM Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra 0 0 0 1 CM Giorgio Taresmino 0 0 0 1 IM Alba Vergilio-Silva 0 0 0 1 Group C P W D L Group D P W D L GM Gabriello Martio-Lampadio 1 1 0 0 GM Gustavo Takeda 1 1 0 0 IM Margerito Alboquerko 1 1 0 0 IM Augustino Neuriani Kalburno 1/2 0 1 0 GM Tiberina Vestrigio 0 0 0 0 IM Markellina Olibrio-Augusti 1/2 0 1 0 IM Gepelle Gormo-Pasano 0 0 0 1 GM Kyro Lartidio-Velanio 0 0 0 0 Giordano Feragi 0 0 0 1 Hermione Rustikellio 0 0 0 1 Group E P W D L Group F P W D L GM Vittoriano Sevana 1/2 0 1 0 GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino 1 1 0 0 IM Maurikio Feligiano 1/2 0 1 0 IM Vittor Nyima-Lyamo 1 1 0 0 CM Laura Arboreto Amorante 1/2 0 1 0 GM Raffella Quadrigaro 0 0 0 0 Giulio Punso-Lodago 1/2 0 1 0 IM Adriano Atilio-Spurio 0 0 0 1 GM Sergio Amorante-Aquilano 0 0 0 0 Edna Keler Tamara 0 0 0 1 Group G P W D L Group H P W D L CM Amanda Gilvano Valli 1 1 0 0 GM Sereno Belmonte 1 1 0 0 GM Gallio Kervario Hortense 1/2 0 1 0 GM Alba Santi-Abrenti 1/2 0 1 0 Vittor Urbano-Allamore 1/2 0 1 0 CM Lorentia Gavione 1/2 0 1 0 GM Oralino Kyenze Gormo 0 0 0 0 GM Karlo Neurino-Sousa 0 0 0 0 IM Paloma Arelliano-Altada 0 0 0 1 Rustio Kastellarbo-Abbia 0 0 0 1 Karlo continued: "For those wondering about the points, a win in a chess match gives one point, a draw gives half a point, and a loss gives none. Furthermore, ties are broken by higher number of wins, lower number of losses, head-to-head score and finally ELO rating in this order. All the first three tiebreakers still result in a tie because only one match has been played, so players are listed by higher ELO rating. Now, that is all for today, and thank you for watching!"
  9. 1422 Giovannilandian Chess Championship The 1422 edition of the Giovannilandian Chess Championship has started! One of the largest and most famous tournaments in the entire country of Giovanniland, it takes place in Sonserina, capital of Varevenna Prefecture and also national center of chess, with thousands of fans coming to visit. Chess players from different regions of Giovanniland, plus the previous year's champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, will be organized in eight groups of five players each. Following that, the two best players of each group will advance to the Round of 16, beginning a four-matchday knock-out stage that ends with the long-awaited final and third place match. In the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Amore Gile Abrente visited the tournament venue and gave a short statement, similar to last year's one, and each player showed up carrying a flag of their region after the speech. After the opening ceremony, players went to their accommodations in order to have a rest and prepare for the first matches tomorrow. The recently-announced results for the group stage draw and tournament schedule are presented below. 10. Please note a few things before doing anything else: 1. You need to apply for a position in the roleplay map before roleplaying. Start by reading this thread to know what to do: 2. The Lounge isn't the forum for roleplay. I think you know where it is already, but please work on a Map Application first and wait to be accepted before posting there. 3. Nukes are off-limits on roleplay.

    Issues

According to the nation API I have answered 3540 issues over almost 3 years, so it would be hard to single one out. Among all issues, though, ones I particularly like are the Easter Eggs, about which our @Mediobogdumhas a great dispatch. The color one was the first I received (and a few days ago I received the 13th and last one), I chose the green option if I recall correctly.
  12. Another change has happened, this time ministry-level: can @Varaniusbe masked as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs?
  13. Thank you for the update, and congrats to Queen Constance II!
  14. Could @Wymondhambe demasked as Speaker and @Clarkovmasked, please?

  18. Thank you for working on the forum upgrade, @Winnipeg! Also, I noticed there are some Guardian masks in need of update. Could @embubbleblueplease be masked as Guardian and @Fuentanademasked?
  19. Thank you for the update, and again, congratulations on the delegacy!
  20. Welcome to NationStates! Glad to see you have joined the forums. I don't see what you mean with linking your NS nation to your profile on the forums? That isn't possible, but if you are talking about the citizenship form, you do need to both post the link of your NS nation (https://www.nationstates.net/nation=evender) and your forum profile (https://www.westpacific.org/forums/index.php?/profile/3099-evender) in the respective questions. Have you joined our Discord server at https://discord.gg/C8PAEvR, by the way?
  21. @Lady Madeline @Joplos @ToastIncorporated @kingdomofhammond @Foverios All accepted! @Elanio I see you've filled the form, but the oath is also needed. @The Godly United Forces Ideally the post should've been made under the account rather than as a guest, but we'll consider the application.
