  1. Good day, subjects.

    Cave Johnson, here.

You are hereby invited to come and take part in Aperture Science's testing process for a new, top-secret prototype we're developing. We offer $50 for anyone who can successfully navigate their way through turretfire, trace amounts of time travel and a slightly unhinnged-yet-entertaining murderbot (who, by the way, has promised a great deal of cake to the winner).

If this sounds appealing to you, please contact your nearest Aperture representative here, and await further instructions.

    We're done here

    Man, what a jerk.

Not to worry. The rest of the Aperture staff are really friendly, and we will take every precaution to make sure you do not meet an untimely demise in some dark corner of our facility.

To that end, it would be good to read the basic guide for what exactly forum Werewolf is over here, but the basic premise is that it's a social deduction game, where one Faction (typically referred to as the Scum or the Werewolves) have to kill off certain players during the night phases, and avoid being detected and voted off during the day phases, by another faction known as the Town or Village faction. Mafia and Werewolf are different names for the same game, and it is very similar to Town of Salem.

Our facility also uses a bit of technical jargon every now and then. We wouldn't be very good mad scientists if we didn't, now would we? You can find a detailed guide to every piece of jargon over here.

Don't be shy to invite as many of your friends as you want to bring, either! We have some of the best bouncy-castles that science has ever produced, and our barbecues are legendary. See you there, carbon units!
  2. Season's greetings everyone,

It's been another year. Have you accomplished the goals you set for yourself? Are you proud of your actions this year? Have you come to terms with your faults and mistakes? More importantly how are you doing? We hope that this December 25th you spend your time with loved ones; family, friends or even the neighbor that nobody else pays any attention to. As the snow falls (weather permitting), the sun shines (weather permitting) and the roads freeze (drive safe) the community of Wintreath wishes you the merriest of Christmases, the happiest of Hanukkahs and the very best of Boxing Days. As a community that so strongly values the friendships developed here in NationStates we understand that while things may not always go well, whatever is happening your friends are here to lighten the load, talk you through it and carry you past it. It is with that in mind we send this to you. Whether you find your stocking filled with candy or coal, whether you find yourself in good fortune or bad, merry Christmas, happy festival, happy Yule and happy Solstice!

    Most Sincerely,
The Citizens and Residents of Wintreath

  4. Embassy Collaborative Writing Activity

Hello there! Tired of embassies just having invitations and updates? Yup us too. Embassies are pretty boring so we thought we'd use ours for something more. Embassies are also a place of outreach. A place for one region to introduce their community to another region. So why is nobody doing that!? Well we are and hopefully you will too in the spirit of fun and good will towards other regions. That's why Wintreath is sending this out. The rules are below so you can read up on how this works as well as what's a no go.

    The Rules

    Spoiler

    1.) Keep it pg-13.

2.) Maintain common decency. No hate speech, don't disparage mental illness or its patients, don't make it pornographic (while the genre of the story is up to you, it cannot be pornographic....yes we felt this needed to be said twice) and all that other common sense stuff that you already know.

3.) You and every region you send it to needs to include with the post you send to other regions, a chronological list of where your specific story has been so that readers (and yes us as well) can keep track of where it has been and verify that the story hasn't been hijacked or something in order to break the rules. Basically your post should look like this:

    1.) Wintreath

    2.) Your Region

    [the rules]

    [First paragraph of the story

[Your region's addition to the story

Then you send it to another region with your region added to the list who will add to the story and do as you did, and so on.

3a) If you're forwarding this via dispatch then do one of the following: mention the nation with the previous dispatch, pin their dispatch in your region, quote their dispatch on your RMB or telegram Club Stoic with a chronological list of where your particular version of the story has been, including links to where each part of the story was originally posted.

4.) No story can be sent to a region it has already been. In theory there will be several different stories going around that have been to places another story hasn't. So if Story A has been to Regions 1, 2 and 3 it cannot be sent to those regions again, but if Story B has only been sent to Regions 3, 4, 5, and 6 then it can still be sent to Regions 1 and 2.

5.) The genre(s) is up to you, the writers! Wanna make it a Crime Drama/Occult story? Go ahead! Tech Noir/Fantasy? More power to ya! Sky's the limit!

6.) Who writes your region's addition to the story is up to you. Wanna include the in-game residents of your region instead of just the off-site community? We strongly encourage that. Wanna make a contest out of it? Go ahead and have more fun with it. Make a poll to decide? By all means. Whatever you do just have fun and remember to pay it forward by sending it to any one region you have an embassy with. We cannot stress enough how important it is to send it out to only one region. Otherwise the stories could end up deadlocked amidst absolute chaos during its dispersal.

Go ahead and spoiler the rules and guidelines to save space. Just make sure it's obvious that the rules are there and need to be read so that they may be observed.

    Prologue

When I was assigned this case I thought it would be easy and that I would finish it quickly. Just talk to the witness, learn what happened, learn who did it and let Homicide or Commercial Crimes take it off my hands. I expected to be home in time for dinner. What they didn't tell me is that I needed to be a therapist to make any progress. I mean I am a therapist but only because I got a degree online so I could get a raise. I'm not even a decent therapist. I am detective Brock Shepherd and this is my report. I'd started bright and early as usual. Well as bright as it gets in Medford, Oregon. As I passed through the gates of Rogue River Pines Asylum I could tell it was more dreary there than any rainy day could make the town. I flashed my badge, showed the director the warrant and made my way towards patient #67, located in Room #33 of the trauma ward. On the way there the director told me about his preliminary examination, "Mr. Parry Laeddis is in a fragile state right now, sir. What he experienced, the things he saw, the trauma was so great that he can't talk about it cohesively or coherently. If you aren't careful in your questioning he'll just shutdown. I cannot allow you to question him without my supervision." I thought he was overstating it at the time. Coddling the man even. I admit now that I was both careless and insensitive when I first spoke to Parry Laeddis. I walked into the room so arrogant and impatient. At the time I had no idea what kind of damage my brash attitude towards Laeddis would do. Even when I left the room having seen the look in his eyes I didn't regret that first encounter as much as I do now. I don't think that anybody who'd seen and endured so much pain would make it out alive. Looking back I'm not even sure he really did. The following is a transcript of my first line of questioning:

  5. From: [Encrypted] 0u-`gu=4
    Subject: Wintreath Calls

    Hello Omega Visitor,

Greetings from your local Mercenary crew. We need warm bodies for a new mission. Or cold blooded. We don’t discriminate.

Here’s the gig:  It seems a few less than desirables found their way into a local colony, and there is a fair amount of credits in it for whomever helps get them out. We want those credits. You want to live.

You interested? You better be, or we will hunt you down. Better to go down fighting than to be hunted by you know who. Head to the recruiter’s office, lower ring of Afterlife. Bring your own gear. Don’t die if you wish to be paid.

This mission does not make you an official member of any mercenary group. It just ensures your survival another day.

    We’ll see you planetside.

-This message was not authorized by Aria. Please don’t tell her. Really, don’t. We don’t take kindly to rats.

    Werewolf FAQs

What is Werewolf? How do I play?
If you've heard of or played Mafia or Town of Salem, this is very much like it. At the start of the game, players are divided into two groups: a small group of bad guys (wolves) and a large group of good guys (villagers). The game goes in turns with two phases: day and night. During the day phase all players vote for someone they believe is a wolf, with the person with the most votes being killed off. Then during the night phase, the wolves select a villager to eliminate.

The goal of the game for the villagers is to figure out who the wolves are based on their behaviour during the game, and vote them off during the day phase, while the goal for the wolves is to hide their identity, manipulate the day vote so that villagers are voted out, and further eliminate villagers during the night phase. The group that eliminates the other wins the game.

    Where is the game played?
The game is played on our off-site forums, so a forum account is necessary (you can register one here!). Citizenship is not required to play Werewolf!

How much time does it take to play?
Werewolf usually lasts a few weeks, but only requires a few minutes a day to play.

Each day phase usually lasts 2 days, and each night phase usually lasts 1. You'll want to take at least 15-20 minutes during each day phase to read what other people have posted, post your own replies, and vote on who you want to eliminate at the end of that phase. If you're a wolf or have a role that requires taking action during the night phase, you'll want to take a few minutes to send that action to the game host via forum private message.

  7. Hello hello to all of our friends and region-mates out there! It's time once more for a rousing game of Werewolf! For the 18th installment, the theme was put to a vote by Wintreath's citizens.  The votes were close, but Choose Your Own Werewolf IV was the winner!  That means that you'll choose how the game goes based on how you answer a set of questions...this time asked by a simple English gentlecat who just wants to make you tea and biscuits.  So stop by Wintreath for some tea, and take part in a friendly game of Werewolf!  The signup thread can be found here, and signups will conclude on June 10th at 8PM Pacific Standard time...so there's plenty of time to sign up.  I hope to see you there!

  8. Hey guys! I've been appointed as Wintreath's new ambassador to The West Pacific. With that in mind, here's our most recent update just released yesterday. ^_^

  9. Frankly I find the original draft (Cormac's) to be fine. I myself couldn't really get behind the changes suggested so far. As it was pointed out, those particular parts struck out in said suggestion) act as a sort of "checks and balances" that I believe maintains an equilibrium that's worked quite well here. Why get rid it of that? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  10. Theory is both a precursor to fact or to counter-proof, in equal measure. But you are right on arguing that it could pay up. Each and all ideas are possibilities, this does not mean some have more merit than others. Do I see merit in this one? Barely, that of activity, or engagement, of those not willing to make a forum account... But would they even care for that either? Will they really become engaged? Or will they just randomly select poll options to get it out of the way? You see my point? Is this a gamble that could REALLY be worth the risk? I personally BELIEVE not, but I don't KNOW it. You BELIEVE it is, but you don't KNOW it either. How much uncertainty are we - as the sum of all participants to the convention right now - be willing to take?

thinking about it, we could even open a poll about it :P I'm sure it would not be voted down there, as YES are usually selected over NOs :P

And you're right. I have no certainties as to its effectiveness in practicality. However that is why we should try it. Instead of dismissing it because bad things COULD happen, why not try it out because good things COULD happen? No progress is made without a chance of risk and it is that very reason why we should take a chance on it. After all, progress is the primary purpose of this convention is it not?

  11. Two things are certain though:

1.) Regardless of the relevance of the events in Lazarus, Kazmr's infiltration of The NPO was not the sole cause of the coup failing. Without the support of the native community, The NPO could not have been removed from power. Of all people, I should no. I was one of several people that continuously spoke with fellow Lazarene natives, keeping them informed of what the intentions of The NPO and The People's Republic of Lazarus were. The NPO failed because they did not seek the support of the native community. Instead they absolutely refused to address them, only occasionally posting on the RMB either to say "The rebellion is lying, we're what's best for Lazarus." or "Hi. What's up?"

2.) The events of Lazarus, while they can be referenced with regards to this in very few ways, cannot be fully applied to the entirety of the events here in TWP. I suggest we remain focused on TWP.

  12. One thing you have to consider, is that the forum itself discourages people from getting involved with the regional community. It's an undeniable fact that most people in literally every single GCR, absolutely refuse to even sign-up on the regional forums. If we could extend the regional government to those that may want to get involved without signing up on the forum, that kind of transparency could ultimately strengthen the region beyond what the average GCR has seen with regards to activity. It's at the very least worth a trial period.

  13. I'd hardly call TSP's attempt successful. It was first introduced as part of a bicameral legislature which tanked before it was even implemented. While their Local Council has seen all positions filled about 9 days ago, I don't believe they have done anything yet so it may be premature to call it a success.

I wholeheartedly agree with Fratellnoir's statement. Darkesia is not an enemy of any kind and has served as delegate satisfactorily for some time.

  14. Fratellnoir makes a valid point. If a large portion of the region (or in this case, a large portion of those getting involved) would like the delegate to post certain polls every now and then, the delegate would be disregarding the desires of the community that in my opinion, the delegate serves, by refusing. Being delegate is a privilege and one such delegate should listen well to what the community is telling him/her. After all, the delegate is always at the mercy of the community. So they would be prudent to appease them, within reason of course.

And, my apologies Darkesia if I may have insulted you in any way during my previous statement. That was not my intention.

btw Medio, if you haven't caught on by reading my name, sinful is what I do. And I do it well. :tiphat:
