  1. Well, I am most sincerely humbled at the honour...  My record as an ardent supporter of all things about The West Pacific is not nearly as long as many other stalwarts of the region, but I have always tried my best to become involved in as many aspects of the region's affairs as possible.  I will wear the Order with great pride.

Westwind, I thank you for your sage advice and guidance during what was for me at times a rather difficult birth into the West Pacific :)

  2. Which ever way Winnie wants this to go is okay by me... PayPal seems to be the easiest route to follow as many players probably already have an account.  Well, at least I do!

Do we know what sort of level of funding, apart from annual fees that is needed?  Was thinking about costs for developing/enhancing/repairing features?  We used to have a great feature in Vortex which allowed us to see which nations we had not endorsed and vice versa. This excellent facility fell by the wayside, but maybe that was a different feature from the forum?

  3. I would certainly be happy to provide a contribution to the running costs of the forum.  The total sum is little compared to many of my monthly 'PC-related' costs so would be glad to contribute so that the total parts are four.

As Winnie is the actual original 'owner', how does he feel about this proposal?  Maybe Winnie, and Eli would prefer to keep things as they are?  Has an approach been made to them?

Just seen Dark's post... are we looking at a NEW forum as a possibility as well?  It would take some real work to set it up and I'm not sure we need to or want to veer away from 'our' tried and trusted current forum format that has served us so well for so many years.

  4. I am greatly saddened by where this is heading... it sounds like "It's my way or the by-way" with no option for the greatest percentage of TWP players to get a say, even if it were an advisory one.

Obviously, the residents have had the option to become involved in this forum but we all know that this has not happened in the past and was never going to happen this time either so the outcome has been determined by the votes of about 31 players out of many times that possible number. It is incredulous that in an attempt to increase interest and participation we are  rejecting a ploy that would have certainly achieved that objective!   The result might well have been the same as the forum vote, anyway :)

  5. I agree that interest in the theme change has been more than for all other subjects that have come up for debate in recent times, which is great news.  The numbers still do not, in my opinion, come anywhere near to a mandate from the player community at large.  By denying them a say, even if it is an advisory one, seems to me to be overly restrictive and may result in feelings of having been ridden roughshod and ignored.

It is understood that much work has been done by yourself and the proponents of the shortlisted themes, and that by going to the populace may seem be be against your personal wishes/judgement.  However, I fail to see what the cogent argument(s) for not doing so is/are. Of course, the final path ahead is your's to chart, but if I were a player and knew that a theme change was in the offing I would love, nay expect, to be at least asked my views.  After all, without the players, what is the region's raison d'etre?

  6. I can see absolutely no reason why we cannot present these options, plus others, to the TWP players as a Regional Poll.  It would give a much wider set of opinions and might even come up with some new options. In addition, it would make the players feel much more involved and that they 'own' what is happening.

It is understood that there might be some attempts at rigging the vote by outside influences, but this issue can be easily sidestepped by clearly stating that we are only allowing nations who have been in the region prior to 1 Feb 2019, or maybe 1 Jan 2019, to vote and to make the poll as an advisory, but meaningful, one to the Delegate.  Sorting out the false 'claims' from the probable few hundred voters might be time consuming but still worth the effort.  Just out of interest, is it possible to delete a vote from the list by the poll originator so this might be another way of cleaning the pollsters out who are not eligible?

Suggest Options: Russia, China, Japan, Pirate, No Change, Other- state on rmb with case argued.  Options randomly placed in the selection list, of course!

  7. Well, finally I have gone through the plethora of offerings from both threads.

My first thought is that as a region we need to do something to get new players actually involved rather than hovering around the edges before fluttering off to do their own thing.

I have to say, however, that I am not a keen fan of any of the themes presented and agree with Fujai that a great option would be to extend the Pirate theme which does not clash with TWP's past history of being a non-RL themed region.  I have an abhorrence of lengthy titles for those in Ministries or positions of authority which smack of NGO titles, and believe we should keep titles short and sweet.

Second, and I have a personal leaning towards Badger's thoughts of that... less is more... for the changes but would be perfectly happy for changes that the younger, and therefore the future senior players of TWP, would like to see.

P.S.  Suggest we combine this thread with A New Theme for The West Pacific

  8. We are so sorry to lose you Neenee but, like many others who have risen to position of trying to make NS and TWP a better place to become involved in, RL often takes its toll.  We thank you for your tremendous service during your delegacy... it has been wonderful to have an 'old hand' at the helm and you have done much in your short time in office.

    Hail the Glitter Queen Neenee!

I have known Halo since the start of his NS 'career' and it has been great to see him go from strength to strength in his player development and, like you, have full faith in his ability to do the region justice.

    Hail Halo!

  9. Greatly enjoyed the Point & Counterpoint on the Supreme Court.

As a British subject I was frankly appalled at the disgraceful treatment of Kavanaugh and the left's position that he was 'required' to prove his innocence rather than be permitted under democratic principles that he be innocent until proven guilty.  And, yes, I do understand that the hearing was not a court of law, but it's about as close as you can get without being one.

  10. As far as banjections go, I have to confess that I am probably the one who is guilty of removing unwanted most of the chaff with names like adhgffrrtr, etc as they show little or no real interest in being serious about the game. We also traditionally have banned meme nations, marsupials (not many recently), fascists, Nazis, and all Trump names.

  11. 23 hours ago, Fujai said:

I made a couple updates to the Darkipedia mockup with your suggestions. Emphasizing the FWA style factbook is a great idea to get people in the door. I removed the "required" language surrounding the header, footer, and sidebar text, and added a bit to make it more user friendly.

I was also thinking that we could move the Darkipedia main page to a dedicated Darkipedia Index Foundation nation so it isn't tied to just one person and updating is easier, and so it's easier to recognize. Darkipedia-specific guides and more information could be posted there later as well, and it could be used as a repository for TWP role play, perhaps.

I like the simplified Darkipedia mockup and have already changed my entry by adding the standard header and footer and it looks great!  Would not be offended if the whole index was moved from my dispatch to a Darkipedia Index Foundation nation as it would make the site more readily accessible to players.  Feel free to move, alter as you best see fit... you have my full support... I have only been keeping things ticking along :)

We do need, however, to place a minimum content for a factbook to be accepted with not too many areas just entered as "Work in Progress"!  Maybe start off by being somewhat relaxed and slowly turn the heat up as we gain more interest?

  12. Fujai, with regard to:

"On that note, I'd be willing to .... try revamping Darkipedia, there's a whole lot of potential there. Here is a mockup for Darkipedia's main page. @Mediobogdum and @Davelands, I'm curious as to what you think of these."

I have tried a few times to encourage players to submit their factbooks and have even got some to add to their first meagre offerings.  One of the problems is that many/most new players have little or no skills in using the codes to format iaw the Darkipedia master page you propose.  We need to emphasize that the easier to produce version, ie, like mine because I am a BBCode beginner, are perfectly aceptable provided they contain most of the required data... :)

I like the master page format, it is glossier than mine with a more standard look and could form an excellent basis for submissions.

There are some candidates for starters at:  http://www.westpacific.org/forums/index.php?/forum/105-atlas-of-the-occident-map-factbooks/  although the books are rather sparse in all but one case :)

  13. I like Arontania's suggestion of puffing out the verbiage with the tongue-in-cheek addition of "further plans in the background... " Not sure whether any delay to await further raiding activity by Yuno would help or hinder the SC Proposal.  Strike while the iron is hot!

  14. Sorry I was only available part time but still a great time :)  We need to have a different strategy next time and NOT be the front runner for everyone to target in mid-game, Build up our shields first even though all the newer players want to blast the heck out of all and sundry!  Gatling Gun Syndrome...

Thanks Altino and all the team for getting us involved and to Badger for allowing me to listen in on the chat on the N-Day voice channel... it was an event to behold :)  Next time I might even add a few sage words as it will be my 3rd N-Day by then.

I now have another great banner to add to/replace one of my 204 banners!  Siberian Badgers with Caek
