  1. I think one of the things that made the Meritocracy such a working Democracy for a long time was the fact we had someone (me...not to toot my own horn or anything, because I do not want the Delegacy, just using it as an example) who held the top in game seat (admittedly, it was a Founder not a WA slot) without imposing his will on the players in the region...well...until the whole pebble's "reboot" but that was because we were in an activity lull much like what we have now... Anyway, my point is, the only time Democracy really seem to do well in NationStates is when running the Government is left to the players of the region and the user holding the reins of the region (be that Founder, or WA Delegate) is leaving the region to run itself and just staying by to help should something happen like raiders trying to move in a remove the democratically elected government...hard to do and also hard to truely call it a Democracy as it's more of a Benevolent Dictatorship, but it's the closest you can come in NationStates without just role playing the hole thing and ignore the actual game....
  2. Democracy - Only because any of the other choices are less likely to have active user bases...Under Monarchy (Realistically a Dictatorship by another name) leaves all the decision making to the person at the top, and will see more stagnation in the end.
  3. Is this the end of offsite forums for TWP? It's so dead around here... I'm not saying I'm going to do something like pull the plug but I had hoped to see some more activity when I paid for renewal on the forum software...
  4. If you're using Ad-Blocker (little stopsign icon with ABP instead of Stop written on it) you can click the stop sign and select "Turn off for this site" which will allow ads on a site you want to support but continue to block them else where... The only reason I don't necessarily always do that myself is I have a rule that blocks all those facebook and twitter APIs calls that try to track your surfing habits by putting on Like/Share buttons on every page... What can I say, I'm a Social Media Luddite at times.
  5. I hope you at least leave the ads on then...the site has to be paid for somehow. It's not like Max is exactly on Forbes' list of richest people in the world or anything.
  6. Nah, he's realistically trying to find ways to make the site self-sufficient without putting more ads up. As cheap as Bandwidth is these days, hosting a particularly popular website like NS does cost a fair amount of money. I don't blame him, I just don't intend to buy any of those (save maybe the ad free thingy...even though I already block all the ads using ad-blocker, just to show my support for the site.)
  7. Yes, SPAMaggedon will be the end of NS as we know it...or something
  8. Rangers aren't that bad on Gas compared to some. It's for the summer...need something that can pull a tent trailer, and well...my Honda Civic Hatchback just isn't up to that task. Plus I'll still have my Civic for day to day/work stuff...so my gas bill shouldn't go up too much. Insurance...well...let's just say Insurance companies are evil.
  9. Sorry, was busy this weekend....I actually saw it on Friday but got side tracked buying a little Ford Ranger this weekend, as well as a secret project (MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!)
  10. It reads like an April 1st Post.....but it was posted on Feb 1st...so yeah...
  11. To to know it's all working now...I'm going to create a new forum for tech support and move all the posts related to this issue to it...so that the embassy isn't a mess.
  12. Upgraded to 3.4.2, please let me know if the issue is still happening.
  13. Are you uploading or are you just linking to your own/a public server? EDIT: Just was checking the bug logs over at Invision and it looks like 3.4.1 has a few issues with the new javascript editor... manually typing in the IMG tag seems to be returning errors. So for the moment the solution apparently is to use the little button on the toolbar in the post editor...second row, 11th Icon.
  14. I've checked every setting I can find that involves images and I can see no reason you wouldn't be able to post a jpeg...could you share the URL with me, and if you have it, the error you get when you try to post jpeg/jpg files to the post. Also, are you just linking to an external server, or are you trying to upload the images?
  15. Does it give you a specific error? It would seem this started right after I updated the forum software, so I'll have to check the settings.
  16. They are running on the same version of IPBoard as us, different skin though.
  17. You fed them data bits... actually most of the time (not always) but when you see really high guest counts like that you can expect a good portion of them to be SPAM bots trying to register on the forums so they can hock their wares/pills/crap. For example, in January (Up until 8am Mountain Time (GMT-7) Tues, Jan 8th) one of my antispam plugins has already stopped 268 Bots from registering, I've banned at least 4 or 5 that got through the gates, and the built in board spam protection may have stopped some as well (it doesn't seem to keep stats). November, which I think we were up and running for 2 weeks....694 Spammers blocked... December is missing for some reason, but if you look at the total of spammers blocked on the front page (2814Spammers Stopped as of this reading) that means that December had 1852 Spammers blocked....
  18. Welcome to 2013 everyone...hope you all had a good Holiday Season. Back to work for me tomorrow :\
  19. I've added a new Menu option at the top as some may have already noticed, and it's a link to the old MyBB Forums....you should be able to login with your username from that system and you should be able to see whatever you had access to before....if someone needs access talk to an Admin and we'll see what we can do. The Forums are in a static/locked mode, so you won't be able to post new content, that's what these forums are for. Hope everyone is having a good December so far. TWP Archives
  20. That's a fair change. It also prevents others getting your nation kicked out of the WA by applying with the same email you have, so that's nice too (not that I've really ever heard of that tactic but I could have seen it happening if anyone got a hold of other's known email addresses.
  21. Well...that's different...I'm just using the link at the bottom of the nation that it says to use to share... let me try the old style link. Ok, fixed now: Winnipeg I had added a / on the end of the URL (since they have no file extension or anything I just took for granted I could do that I guess)...removed it and bam, it works.
  22. This should work now. They open in new windows FYI. Winnipeg The West Pacific
  23. Honestly, they can agree to whatever they want. Known Forum/Community Destroyers will be banned on sight here regardless. Speaking of which, I should really dig up my old ban list and re-add that to the IP Blocks. Council of reps put forward by universal acclaim of regions sounds like it would be VERY hard to maintain or get anything done.
