It’s back! Last year, 2012 NationStates World Fair was an enormous success – bringing together such a wide scope of players from across NationStates. This year, The NationStates World Fair will run again, but with an element of crowd-sourcing to ensure the initiative is the best it can be! 

 

Unless something dramatic changes, I believe there will be a few things returning for sure: regional venues, an NS-Sports Tournament, a press-room, scholarly lectures and the beloved “World Message Board”. 

 

Why are you announcing this so early?

 

This year we’ve decided that we want to mimic real-life international events that have “hosts” and a bidding process to become host, but The World Fair Committee believes that the fair should still be run on an independent board maintained by neutral admins.  The bidding process is going to take a while though, so we're giving you fair warning!

 

What does being the "host-region" of The 2013 NS World Fair mean then?

 

Good question. The host-region of The 2013 NS World Fair gets to make the opening and closing speeches at the event. In their bid, the host-region will propose some suggestions for The Fair which will also be included into the event.

 

So how does a region make a bid to become the host-region?

 

Send a telegram to Unibot III that details the following: (1) what specific events/activities/stuff would your region/organzation like to see included to improve this World Fair? (2) what should this year’s theme for the World Fair be (last year's theme was "diversity and unity")? (3) any other comments regarding this World Fair?

 

NOTE: only regions and organizations can make bids to become the host of The NS World Fair. However, if you want to personally share some suggestions: forward them to me. 

 

How does the winning bid get chosen?

 

All the bids will be voted on by the public and The World Fair Committee will choose between the top five bids of this vote.

 

Who is in The World Fair Committee?

 

Currently, myself, Todd McCloud, Zwangzug, Communist Quinntopia and Solm.  We may need to add some staff to our team though for this next World Fair.

 

Tentative Schedule

• Sept 14, 2013 –  Submissions will begin for “bids” for The 2013 NS World Fair.
  

• Oct 1, 2013 –   Submission box closes; Public voting begins on bids.
  

• Oct 7, 2013 – Voting closes; Out of the top 5 bids, The World Fair Committee will choose the winner.
  

• Oct 24, 2013 (?) - Sign-up begins for Regional Venues.
  

• Oct 26, 2013(?) - Sign-up begins for NS-Sports Tournament.
  

• Nov 10 2013 - Opening Ceremonies of The 2013 NS World Fair.
  

• Nov 13 2013 -  Closing Ceremonies of The 2013 NS World Fair.

Some people around here missed my World Fair IRC Q&A last year.

 

Good to see you're making the effort to begin work on this well in advance.  If you keep NS updated as it goes along, perhaps more regions will be better prepared to participate.

It appears Unibot has returned to retirement.  According to Todd McCloud, Sovreignty will have control of his nation, and the planning for the Worlds Fair will continue as outlined.
