Prolific Politics

British Isles has experienced one of its most important political upheavals in the regions history this month after only nine days into the new term of parliament two planned attempts to unseat Prime Minister St. John Montclaire and challenge his majority in parliament led to near political collapse. An early election was called after Party member Kingborough Edwick-Kudrow called for a vote on Montclaire's majority with the support of independent Bryan von Richthofen, spurred on by knowledge of plans by Liberal Party members William Somerset and Kate and SDLP member Christopher Bishop to challenge the Prime Minister's leadership.

The election was fiercely contested with a total of fifteen different candidates vying for the seven parliamentary seats. In the end however the SDLP emerged victorious under the new leadership of Sir Thomas Insaniac, narrowly gaining a majority of four seats. The Free State Party, Liberal Party, and Labour Party each acquired one seat a piece from the remaining three places, leaving former opposition party The Union Party out in the cold with no seats in parliament.

Cameron M. Richthofen-Saxony (LP), Aegon Targaryen (SDLP), Peter Phillips (SDLP), Chefdevergue (SDLP), Sir Thomas Insaniac (SDLP), James Mikaelson (FS) and Sovreignry (LIB) made the final cut as our new members of parliament after a run-off election saw the three liberal party candidates fight it out for the last seat in parliament.

Media Blitz Hits The Region
As the politics heated up, so did the media with The Hash, Beacon Media, The Times, the Telegraph, The British Tribune and the Free State Press battling it out for readerships with bigger, better, more controversial articles from each of them.

In particular The Hash managed to make a splash when they got the scoop from the incoming Prime Minister Insaniac on his prospective cabinet appointments, nearly leading to a digital brawl over the suitability of George Young and Mark Black to hold office as deputy prime minister/secretary of justice respectively. The Hash has particularly gained a reputation as a controversial paper after it published a series of articles called The Stashed Chronicles by an anonymous author that were seen by some as bordering on libelous attacks on the SDLP, the majority party.

Abdication of the Queen

Dear Friends of the British Isles,

It is with both great sadness and great joy that the Foreign Office makes the the announcement to our allies and friends of the abdication of Her Royal Majesty Queen Georgiana from the throne of the Kingdom of the British Isles.

Her Royal Majesty issued her instrument of abdication, stating;

Quote:
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce my abdication from the throne. As

many of you know I have found it difficult to discharge the duties as Queen in

my current circumstances. I pledge my loyalty to the new King and I ask that

you do so as well. Our kingdom has been successful because all of our citizens

contribute their all and therefore no one is indispensable. I take this decision in

that spirit. My last word must be to all of you who have joined me in the quest

to make this wonderful kingdom the very best it could be. Thank You.

God Save The King!"

The Prince of Wales has now ascended the throne as His Royal Majesty King Edward IX, second king of the British Isles - his coronation having taken place in front of the citizens of the British Isles.

We hope that this may usher in a new era for our region and lead to greater cooperation with the regions of the game.

God Save The King, May He Reign Long!

Regards,
Kingborough Edwick-MythiKa-Kudrow,
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Apology to the Feeders;

To: The Governments of The North Pacific, the Pacific, the South Pacific, and the West Pacific.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Isles would like to issue an apology to the feeders as a result of our departments failure to deliver diplomatic missives to our embassies in your regions for some time. Due to the dereliction of duties by our assigned ambassador, your regions did not receive updates and other missives from British Isles for quite some time and we offer our sincere apologies for this inactivity on our behalf.

We hope to return to normal function in the following days.

Regards,
Kingborough Edwick-Kudrow,
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs,
The Kingdom of the British Isles.

Queen Mother Retires

Her
Majesty the Queen Mother Georgiana (Neisse) has retired from
NationStates just before the beginning of this month, planning to
concentrate of her two new twin babies. The Queen Mother stated on the
20th of March;

Quote:

Friends,

I have decided to officially retire from Nationstates after eight years
of playing. This decision wasn’t easy to make and I regret I will not be
able to see my friends on a daily basis. I'm not one for words really,
so this will be short and sweet. I want to thank everyone who I worked
with in the game. I couldn’t have achieved so much without all of your
help and friendship throughout all these years. I will try to visit the
game as much as I can. I wish you all well personally and as well as in
Nationstates.

Thanks for all of the great memories!
Neisse

The
region will dearly miss Neisse, who created British Isles and led it
into its golden age, and was a figure many looked up to.

Rush Hour In Parliament

Parliament
has seen a 'rush hour' of types in the first week of being open, around
ten different bills entering the floor of the House of Lords. However
as the House of Lords steamed ahead, the House of Commons found itself
stuck for the first half of the week, arguing over voting procedures and
trying to elect a Speaker.

As a result, only two bills and a
small number of minor amendments have so far emerged from the House of
Commons, consisting primarily of a recruitment act, which the house
spent days debating, unable to decide who is responsible for recruitment
and a copyright act that many have criticised as useless. It seems the
House of Commons former productivity in the last two terms may be
falling apart, while the House of Lords, formerly considered a home for
lazy people who failed to get a job in the lower house, has stolen the
position as primary producer of legislation.

Royal Wedding Bells

Royal wedding bells have rung out across the Kingdom this week after His Royal Majesty King Edward IX announced his engagement to Her Danish Highness Princess Clarissa Megan Fairy of Denmark-Greenland.
They were later married in a ceremony on the 30th of March, conducted
by Joakim Oldenburg at Westminister Abbey to an audience of dozens of
happy cheering British Islanders.

The marriage is the first time a
British Isles monarch has married, the former Queen spurning marriage
fiercely. And despite the marriage, the King has yet to announce the
chosen heir to the throne, which has set the gossip columns alight over
the last few weeks, especially after the King and Queen clarified that
the Kensington family would remain restricted directly to themselves and
any chosen heir, meaning Fairy's large extended family remain out of
the line of inheritance.

Prime Minister #11 Resigns

Prime Minister Adel Oldenburg-Windsor resigns from office a mist a plague of inactivity in the region. Lack of activity from both his cabinet and Parliament was part of his decision to resign, only a week from the dissolve of Parliament for a new session. His Deputy, Victoria assumed office after he tendered his resignation to 10 Downing Street. British Isles can hopefully look to a silver lining among this unfortunate time of inactivity.

House of Commons Elections Loom

With Parliament now dissolved, elections have been called and its time to decide a new House of Commons as well as a new or returning Prime Minister. So far only a minimal amount of people have signed up to run in the Parliament, one being the incumbent Klaus Mikaelson. Cameron M. Richthofen-Saxony is also expected to run in the elections as well, pending internal party elections.

Want to run for the House of Commons and have a say in the region? Then come join us by signing up at our board. From there you can join an existing party, create your own, or run Independent. All new and returning faces will be welcomed to run in this election. Last day to register is July 15, 2013 and polling day is July 18, 2013!

Prince of Wales Hosts a Poetry Contest

The newly crowned Prince of Wales, John held a poetry contest this past week. The winner through a vote would become the Prince's Poet and would receive a special masking.

One important rule of the contest though was the poem must have been original, it was brought to the attention that one of the poems, that was deemed the winner was not in fact original, we are now awaiting word to see what the winner has to say.

Prince of Wales goes on tour!

Prince John recent embarked on a tour to visit several region which are, the Kingdom of Britain, Kantrias, the Kingdom of Denmark, and finally, The Great Britain and Eire. The tour was planned not only in honour of John being crowned Prince of Wales but also to further push our ties with each other regions closer together.

General Election Results!

Election Results are in and Klaus Mikaelson came in first with 12 votes, followed by Adelaide and Victoria with 11 votes. But the real question was, who would be the next Prime Minister? The first ballot commenced, with British Orange the Independent vs Klaus Mikaelson of the Sinn Fein. At the end of the vote it was 3 vs 3 with one uncast vote, thus a re-vote was needed. Ballot two started and within no time British Orange was elected Prime Minister for the second time.

First Non-SDLP Prime Minister in 10 Months!

For the first time in 10 months, British Isles saw its first non-SDLP Prime Minister, British Orange. He announced his cabinet with Cameron Romefeller as Deputy Prime Minister & Home Secretary, Dante Hanover as Foreign Secretary, Lady Victoria as Defence Secretary and Sir Ardobe Eire as Culture Secretary.

British Orange quickly went to work citing reform for the Royal Navy as well as the closure of the MI6 Department which would later cause great controversy.

Vote of No Confidence Launched!

After becoming a highly unfavored Prime Minister and with his controversy regarding the Navy and MI6, a Vote of No Confidence was launched by his former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Secretary Cameron Romefeller who had resigned only days earlier following a change of heart with the ideas of the Prime Minister.

After only a week in office, the shortest reign of a Prime Minister ever, British Orange was removed from office and his new Deputy Prime Minister, Sir Ardobe Eire once again became Interim Prime Minister.

Controversial VoNC goes to the Supreme Court!

Due to the wording of the Vote of No Confidence, it was unknown as to whether or not it was aimed at British Orange's Government as a whole or just the Prime Minister himself.

The review comes in and the House of Lords must decide as to whether or not they show confidence in his government or not. The Lords later showed their confidence in the Government, restoring British Orange as Prime Minister, who only resigned and attempted to call a General Election.

House of Commons elects a new Prime Minister!
Following the resign of British Orange, the House of Commons moved to elect a new Prime Minister, with Cameron Romefeller of the Labour Party against Klaus Mikaelson of Sinn Fien. The vote with only one ballot declared Klaus Mikaelson the next Prime Minister receiving support from his party and the Social Democrat Labour Party.

Members of Parliament of Midlands and Northern Ireland resign!

Following the Confidence vote of Klaus Mikaelson, British Orange and Lady Victoria resign from Commons. British Orange citing he wanted to move into the Lords and Lady Victoria seeking retirement from politics altogether, we wish them luck in their future endeavors.

BI-election results are in for Midlands and Northern Ireland!

The results are in and Former MP Alvino Castillon MythiKa is reelected and His Lordship, Alexa Oldenburg is also elected into Commons.
