Genève, Reçueçn--The Zimmerich Climbers have not been doing as well as they had hoped lately. After a promising start to their season, including handing Dalimbar's University of Saint Andreisburg White Eagles a 99-10 drubbing in the third week, the Climber's performance has really begun to go downhill. Although Zimmerich was the last team in its conference to remain undefeated, this ended on the sixth match-day as they lost to the Tamaric University of Clarendon, visiting them at home.
This defeat brought the Climber's first half of the season to a close, as they had back to back byes for the seventh week. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to capitalize on the extra practice time, or perhaps the break in the schedule threw them off their rythym, because when Universitat avf Sundet came to visit, they trounced Zimmerich 43-0, by far their worst game so far. (The Climbers had previously beaten Universitat avf Sundet in Fujai.)
After making some changes to its defnsive playbook, the Climbers are hoping to make it back into the thick of things this coming week as they head to the University of Ozorus, whom the last time they encountered they drew in a nail-biting game. The Ocelots have meanwhile surpassed the Climbers to take second place in the conference, so it should be a good game as they fight it out for a spot at the top. The conference is in fact led by Universitetet avf Sundet, who nabbed the spot during Zimmerich's bye and then beat them to hang on to it. The last team in contention for the conference title is the Tamaric University of Clarendon, who is even with Zimmerich on 4 wins, but has an extra loss to their record, as well as a worse point differential.

Another announcement on behalf of the WPCAA: looking ahead to the post-season, the first annual Dragon Bowl will be held on an invitational basis. Rather than just accept the highest ranked teams from each conference, invitations will be extended to participants who have recommended themselves through their rps over the course of the season. (Of course, there may be some correlation.) This way we will be able to select teams based on the user behind them and on OOC engagement, avoiding situations where the teams in the post-season represent the same nation or where people who were less interested in the first place take spots from those who were more excited about the event. If we continue to have a lack of rp, I will assume unless you guys tell me otherwise that there is also a lack of interest in having a post-season.
So, tl;dr: if you want to win the dragon bowl, participate in the season!

Just a note to people: I'll be camping this week, so the schedule may vary with no warning. I may post results later, or even earlier than normal if I think I won't get a chance otherwise. If I don't have any chance to at all, I'll do a couple days at once to catch up once I'm back.
On a different note, post RP's, people! No one has to, but it's half the fun. Plus, if you pay attention, you'll see that those who have posted are already doing better on average than those who haven't.

Deutch & Pérol Stadium, Zimmerich, Reçueçn--The fans were excited this past Saturday for the Climbers' first home game, coming out in droves to a sold out match. They were rewarded, perhaps not with a victory, but with an incredibly entertaining football game. The Climbers drew the Ocelots on 33 points, forced to fight tooth and nail throughout the entire match and never falling into the same stride as their previous game, confident in the knowledge of victory.
Although the season is hardly started, a couple Reçuecian sports analysts are already predicting that this will be one of the most exciting games of the entire year. Each time a team took the lead, it was follwed by the other team equalizing or pulling ahead. Throughout the game, the cameras showed the faces of the fans in the stadium, gripped with suspense and ont the edge of their seats. So far this game is the only tie in the WPCAA's entire first division, and we'll see how long that lasts.
The game gave the entire team a chance to shine--66 total points scored meant both offense and defense were busy throughout. In an interview after the game, quarterback Horst Scholz said, "I think we played well, but obviously we couldn't get the result we wanted. I think we ran the right plays, and did them well, we might just need a bit more fitness training to really put ourselves up and over the other teams in the conference and totally dominate. But I've also seen the work the boys are putting in daily and I'm confident that we'll only be performing better and better from here on out, and already in the top half of the conference, I think that's really promising."

Strafsund, Fujai--To the disappointment of its fans, Universität Zimmerich's season began with an away game. Not just anywhere, either--the flight to Fujai makes the pair of matches the Climbers are set to play their the second furthest from home, falling only behind their trip to Craiolia out east, which isn't scheduled for another four weeks. The Fjolett also bear the distinction of being the only team in the Climbers' conference not on mainland Polaris--instead, of course, being located on the island of Fujai to the north. As a consequence, few Reçuecian fans were able to make the trip down to Strafsund to watch Zimmerich kick things off.
The team, of course, made the trek up north, to find that temperatures are already dipping there this time of year. The Climbers, however, demonstrated that either the nippy atmosphere didn't bother them, or at least they were used to such weather from Reçueçn's alpine climate, starting their season off strong with a bruising 17-10 victory over the Fjolett. The fans watching at home were kept in suspense throughout the first half of the game, however, as scoring alternated back and forth until the Climbers' quarterback, Horst Scholz, got a touchdown late in the fourth quarter with a QB sneak from the one-yard line.
The Climbers' first touchdown came half-way through the first quarter when Wolfgang Hahn, Universität Zimmerich's freshman wide receiver, caught a long ball from Scholz and made good a 34 yard run to the end zone. Another touchdown from Senior Benjamin Horn, fifteen minutes later, put Zimmerich well ahead. Ralph Herr, a freshman, made good all three points after touchdown, along with a 27 yard field goal in the third quarter, and one from 32 yards in the second. At fourth and twelve, the Climbers were left with a field goal as their best hope of easing the pressure applied by Univeritetet avf Sundet, who had equalized with a field goal of their own after a touchdown in the second quarter. By the end of the game however, the Climbers had solidified their lead, cementing their victory with Scholz's drive with a minute and a half left.
Our reporters caught up with Horst Scholz and Otto Heinrich after the game, two of Zimmerich's seniors, who were hanging out joking around with two players from the Fujar team, Eirin Hammer and Sigmund Wolff. "It was a great game," said Heinrich, "and it was a lot of fun just going out there, playing our best game, and trying for our best result. Obviously we led the whole game, but I think with practice we should be able to push through some more TDs so we're not worried about them equalizing with us late in the fourth."
There had indeed appeared to be more tension between the teams before and throughout the game, but with the win assured, the Reçuecians were able to ease up a little and talk with the Fujar players afterwards without too much awkwardness. Scholz especially seemed keen to get to know Wolff, a Reçuecian national studying and playing at Universitetet avf Sundet. "This one right here was the biggest threat," Scholz said, grabbing Wolff around the shoulders and pointing at them for the camera, grinning wide. "You knew it was going to be another Reçuecian that gave us trouble, we're a league apart." It wasn't quite clear if the Fujar players were in the same jovial mood as the Reçuecians after their defeat, but the Zimmerich players didn't seem to let it bother them, joking around. As they headed back to their locker room, one called over his shoulder: "Same thing at the end of the season?"

I just realized that in my post above, I forgot about how the byes work. There's actually 14 gamedays, of course, not 12, so the regular season will go a bit into the beginning of July.

The first gameday's results have been posted. From here on out I will be doing my best to move things along at a pretty regular pace: I'm hoping to have results every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evening. This way the end of the season will coincide with the last day of June and any postseason play will happen in July. For the postseason schedule I'll try to base it off feedback I get from you guys during the season so that it can be tailored to whoever is playing in it. That's also true for the regular season: the schedule is subject to change if anything comes up for me, but if you guys would rather have it paced slower or faster, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Any long term changes will be announced here. If I'm going to miss just a single cutoff, I'll try to put something in the #sports channel on our RP server.

Just gonna make another announcement: in an effort to keep June as our football month, and because I may be away part of next week, I will double up match-days on Thursday and Sunday, thereby bringing the season to a close on Sunday. If we do have a post-season, which we may not, it would most likely be after a break so I can attend
yet anothera wedding on the seventh.
