    Greetings, fellow West Pacificans.
I've decided to take an extended break from NationStates. (I will make this post as short but informative as I can due to the Inverse Law of Retirement Posts.) As most of you know, I am a student (my grades are doing well this time around so far ) and that takes up a lot of my time, with homework and extracurriculars. The rest of my free time for a long time was put into NationStates. It's been an honor to serve among you all in government, in Discord conversation, and in TWPAF.

There are a few reasons why I decided to leave. One and obviously the most important is my time. As goes the old saying, "RL >>>>>>>>>>> NS." Furthermore, my interest in NS has been steadily decaying for a while. It certainly doesn't help with all the toxicity that is to be expected from an online community masquerading as a political simulator (though perhaps the toxicity was always there). If you want more details, feel free to DM me (although I will not respond as quickly as I used to).
I hope the TWPAF pirates will sail on to new seas!  It's been a pleasure with you all.

Hey you guys! Sending some love out today! <3 I was talking to someone earlier today about a silly tag that we did with TWPAF back when Kawaii was Commander and I was just a First Commander in revenge on The Bee Movie! It brought back a lot of fun memories in TWP, so I wanted to share some of my favorite TWP times with you guys.

The Spanish Inquisition - I've been on a ton of raids during my time on NS, but the most fun that I ever had with one was when Khanter helped us plan a big raid on Spanish-speaking regions. Like, ALL of the Spanish-speaking regions! We had just kicked off our pirate theme, so we needed to do something big and fun to really cement that direction, and between my Pirate Code, Ban's excellent Graphics, and Khanter's excitement to help with that raid, this put us in the perfect position to really sell it! I spent days hyping everyone up about a secret raid that we'd have coming up and screaming "¡SOMOS PIRATAS!" to anyone who would listen, Khanter made us a WFE all in Spanish for the raid, and Bran made us this cool image as a teaser:

It ended up being a ton of fun and the beginning to my favorite military theme on NS!

Punday Monday! - Listen, you guys, I am not in favor of puns, I'm honestly not, but thanks to Badger and Roavin have had to take on the title of Ocassional Punstress. Badger used to poke at me EVERY MONDAY to get my pun on with everyone on the RMB, and EVERY MONDAY I would grumble at him for it. But secretly, I gathered puns throughout the week and was always excited to post them and make all my friends groan! I don't think I ever ended up getting most likes for the best pun, but I'm pretty sure I came fairly close.

Badgerbot - Idk how many of you know this, but when I first met Badger, I legitimately thought that he was a really, really well programmed chatbot. Something about his avatar, I don't know, seemed very botish to me! When I finally figured out that he was an actual person, I was really embarrassed, but had to tell him about it, and for the long day time after that I called him Badgerbot when I saw him! Eventually he created an actual BadgerBot to rule over TWP's Discord server and I was tickled pink! Now we have BadgerBot2.0 and it continues to be a weird, inside joke legacy that always makes me smile!

Glitter Apprenticeship - Before I got really involved in TWPAF, I got really involved in TWP in the form of RMB shenanigans. This is where I met some of the old greats in TWP and learned to respect them! I was a wee noob, but I got friendly with BBD, YY, Medio, and a lot of the other Guardians at the time while I was there. I'm still upset that Medio didn't get unlocked until after I was done with TWPAF! I always wanted to raid with him. :c But my crowing achievement was one day convincing NeeNee to let me be her Glitter Apprentice. I spent like a week after that glittering everyone on the RMB and learning her ways. It was a great time.

Bugging Forum Mods - I'm sorry to finally be admitting this, but I got... really into recruitment when I was running TWPAF and almost my entire motivation behind big numbers (besides pilers) was making tons and tons of posts in the mask request thread for the forum mods to have to do. :3 I just liked peeping in every day like "FIVE MORE MASKS FOR YOU, THANK YOU GUYS!" It was my own private little game. But every time I see someone join TWPAF now I get a little shot of glee that the mods will have to mask someone. xD Sorry. <3

Anyway, just sending out some love from me and Osiris! Hope everyone is doing well! What about you guys, do you have any really special memories with TWP that make you happy? What do y'all have going on!

Hello! I am the leader of a brand new, tiny nation titled The Confederacy of Sentristria here in the West Pacific. I played NationStates years ago and had my own region but I just wasn't getting anything out of it, but the past couple years of red hot politics here in the United States brought back my enthusiasm for politics, and so here I am! I hope to maybe get involved in diplomacy and politics, as those are two topics I am particularly interested in. I also enjoy economics, writing, and music, so if anyone wants their own anthem, hit me up and I'll make you one for free

    2. Reach out to Halo (Saint Mark) on the RMB or Discord. He is in charge of Recruitement and Citizenry and will help you.
    3. Think about what interests you. Being a diplomat (Foreign Affairs), creating events (Internal Affairs), writing (Newspaper), raiding and the military (TWPAF), the WA and laws (World Assembly Affairs), or something else that we can help you nurture.
    4. Be social on here, the RMB, and Discord. You never know who you might meet who will be able to help you figure out what you want to do.

I studied politics in college and try to avoid it as much as possible now that I've graduated. I'm really interested in getting involved, and I'm typically pretty easy-going, so feel free to introduce yourselves! I look forward to seeing what The West Pacific has to offer!

    July Foreign Upate
    Emperor: Vulturret[NS]
Prince of the First Rank: Sithis[NS]
    Grand Councillor: Madeline[NS]
    Internal Affairs: Xemt[NS]
    Communications: Vulturret[NS]
    World Assembly Affairs: Manson[NS]
    External Affairs: Samsonyte[NS]
    Chief Justiciar: Aav VerinHall[NS]
    Associate Justiciar: Smith VerinGuard[NS]
    Associate Justiciar: Zaphkael[NS]
    Speaker: McMannia Whitehall[NS]
After a period of inactivity following a period of turmoil and instability, The Ragerian Imperium is now back and doing better than ever. This will be a fairly long update since the last one was all the way back in March and quite a lot has happened since then. Now that things are more stable these updates will come on a much more consistent schedule of one every couple weeks and be a more manageable size.
    Staff Changes
Since there has been so much staff turnover since the last foreign update four months ago, a list of all changes to the Imperial Council will be provided instead of an in-depth explanation of each change as usual.

3/04/18 - The first Councillor of Internal Affairs, Manson, resigned due to personal issues. 3/10/18 - Emperor Cognat I (Scott/Tawks) abdicated the throne to Vulturret and left the region after a disagreement with Grand Councillor Zarhust and External Affairs Councillor Rachael. Zarhust and Rachael also left the region. 3/11/18 - Fleet Admiral of the Armada and Chief Justiciar Valkyrie Vytherov resigned due to issues with a few members of the region. 4/2/18 - The Imperial Council was finally filled after the turmoil of the previous month. Samsonyte was appointed to Grand Councillor, Jake became the Internal Affairs Councillor with Xemt as his deputy, Rachael was appointed to External Affairs Councillor and Aav became the Chief Justiciar. 4/16/18 - Eli Hesial was elected Speaker of Citizens’ Assembly 4/28/18 - Grand Councillor Samsonyte was replaced by Madeline VerinGuard. 5/31/18 - An expanded Imperial Council was introduced with Madeline remaining as the Grand Councillor, Samsonyte as the External Affairs Councillor, Jake retaining his role as Internal Affairs Councillor, and Rachael and Vulturret in the new positions of WA Affairs Councillor and Communications Councillor, respectively. 6/03/18 - Rachael left the region without explanation, leaving the office of Councillor of WA Affairs vacant. 6/18/18 - In a very close race for Speaker of the Citizens’ Assembly, McMannia Whitehall just barely edged out incumbent Speaker Eli Hesial, becoming our new Speaker. 6/18/18 - Manson was appointed to WA Affairs Councillor. 6/20/18 - Xemt replaced Jake as Internal Affairs Councillor after Jake’s activity level fell.
    The State of the Region
While the last section focused on the happenings in the region over the past few months, this section will focus on the current affairs of the Ragerian Imperium.
    The Department of Internal Affairs
The Department of Internal Affairs had been a vital asset the region and our most active department under Jake’s leadership, but when Jake got a new RL job, his activity dramatically declined and it was clear that some changes were necessary. Enter Xemt, longtime Deputy Councillor of Internal Affairs and possibly the most consistently active member of the region. Xemt was promoted to Councillor of Internal Affairs on the 20th of June and has continued to do a fantastic job in the department. He plans to focus on generating more activity on all platforms, increasing our nation count and active citizen numbers, and starting a regional roleplay.

    The Department of External Affairs
The Department of External Affairs had not been doing very well with Rachael at the helm but it is starting to improve with new Councillor of External Affairs Samsonyte. Samsonyte was appointed to the position on May 30th and has since worked hard to revive the department. His main goals for the immediate future are improving our relationships with our current allies, putting out more frequent and consistent foreign updates, and forging new relationships with other prominent raider regions.

    The Department of Communications
One of our new departments, the Department of Communications is led by Emperor Vulturret. The Department of Communications was created as a split from the Department of Internal Affairs to allow for more focus in certain areas. The purpose of the department is to keep all our citizens up to date on all the happenings within the region through, newspapers, telegrams, or whatever other medium best suits the needs of our people. So far Councillor Vulturret has begun working on telegram campaigns to encourage residents to be more involved and has started an interview series, My Fellow Ragerian. The first installment, An Evening with Naj, can be found here. Vult’s goals for the near future include continuing My Fellow Ragerian, encouraging more citizens to join offsite platforms, and establishing The Ragerian Sentinel, our newspaper.

The Department of World Assembly Affairs
Our other new department, the Department of World Assembly Affairs was established to keep our citizens informed on matters relating the WA and help TRI have more of a global presence in the World Assembly. After Rachel left, the future of the department was uncertain but now with Manson leading it, the department is sure to become a vital part of the region. Councillor Manson is currently focused on encouraging citizens to be active voters and increase discussions on the RMB, discord, and the forum.

    Executive Branch Overall
Overall, the executive branch is doing well and is on track to become even better. Under Grand Counsellor Madeline’s leadership, it has become increasingly active and important each day. Both of our original two departments, EA and IA, have been more active than ever before and our two new departments, Comm. and WAA, are becoming just as vital to the region. Grand Councillor Madeline is working hard to increase activity on all platforms, grow our citizen base, improve our presence in the raider community with raids at least 3 majors a week, and establish a schedule for raids, games, interviews, and other regional activities.

    Judicial Branch
The Ragerian justice system has already been tested multiple times in our short existence and it has held fast each time. Chief Justiciar Aav has presided over 4 cases since the last foreign update, one ending in a permaban, one ending in a temporary mute, and the other two ending in out of court settlements. Two more justiciars, Zaphkael and Smith, were appointed and unanimously approved by the Citizens’ Assembly on June 1st. Aav and his team remain committed to serving justice and interpreting the law fairly.

    Citizens’ Assembly
The Citizens’ Assembly, our lawmaking body consisting of all our citizens, was created in April with the introduction of our new constitution that replaced the edicts that were used under Emperor Cognat I. It has been largely inactive since its creation in April, but in recent weeks it has seen more activity with a couple bills currently being discussed. A lack of effective election law has been a hot topic for months now but no serious effort to improve it has been made by anyone yet. It remains at the top of Speaker McMannia’s goals, followed closely by the establishment of a higher house of legislature, the introduction of more activities to engage our citizens, an elected head of state, and the promotion of raider ideologies.

    The Ragerian Armada
The Ragerian Armada, the military force of the Ragerian Imperium, is not doing as well as many of the other areas of the region. Despite numerous attempts by the Imperial War Command to organize raids, there seems to be a lack of interest among the general citizenry. The Imperial War Command is continuing to offer frequent raids for those who want them and is currently working on a campaign to interest more people in the Armada. Don’t think our military isn’t still active though, we’ve gotta couple big projects planned. Watch out, natives!

That's it for this update! Our next update will be coming shortly. Our plan is to have small updates every few weeks instead of larger ones less often. For more information about anything discussed here talk to Councillor of External Affairs Samsonyte.

    Sorting Out the Storting

A Recap of Recent Wintrean Legislative Events
    by taulover
Image credit: Dmitry Valberg on Flickr

Greetings, friends! It is I, taulover, Speaker of the Underhusen, here to bring you some quick updates on the state of our legislature!
In the June Underhusen elections, the incumbent term chose to lower to the number of seats to four, and five candidates stood for office:

[li]Chanku ran on a campaign of experience and legal reform.[/li]
[li]Mathyland cited his long-time incumbency and capacity for grammar fixes.[/li]
[li]Crushita did not campaign until late in the election, basing it on his experience and Spud religion.[/li]
[li]I, taulover, ran with no specific agenda except keeping the Laws page completely up to date.[/li]
[li]Doc had some various ideas, including defining citizenship within the Fundamental Laws.[/li]

Crushita ultimately lost the election, likely due to the delayed campaigning. In the Speaker vote following the election, there initially appeared to be a possibility of a tie between myself and Chanku. We reached an agreement wherein Chanku would become Speaker pro tempore and be free to implement his legislative goals without any hindrance from myself. Additionally, I appointed Mathyland as Secretary.
Chanku's main proposal for the early part of the term was to create an officer system for the Underhusen. Under this new system, the Speaker could create various offices and appoint citizens to it. After some discussion (in which a proposal for giving the Monarch the duty to initially nominate a Speaker candidate was rejected), this amendment to the Underhusen Procedural Rules was passed.
Following this event, I created the Office of Information at Chanku's advice, and appointed Mathyland to lead it. This Officer position continued Mathyland's former Secretarial duties and also expanded them to include greater public outreach responsibilities.
Other proposals still remain in discussion, including one giving the Speaker the power to fix grammar errors in laws, and another establishing an explicit supremacy clause in the Fundamental Laws.

    The Culture Review

    by Gerrick
This is the fifth installment of the Culture Review, written by me, Wintreath's Jarl of Culture. I'll be talking briefly about some events going on in the cultural areas of the forums, such as Ministry news, forum games, and contests that took place from late April to early June.
Thanes (Vice Ministers) of Culture are elected positions that serve to manage and represent different areas of Wintreath. Along with the already established positions of Thanes of Roleplay, Werewolf, LGBT Affairs, and Gaming, in May the Ministry of Integration was dissolved and a new Thane of Integration was added to the Ministry of Culture. Elections for these positions were held at the beginning of June, and the roles are now filled by Pengu as Thane of Werewolf and LGBT Affairs, Gattoartico as Thane of Gaming, and Kane lives as Thane of Integration. There were no candidates for Thane of Roleplay who completed the necessary steps to win the position, but I will be on the lookout for someone to take it over. I look forward to working with this group and seeing what they can bring to their new roles.
Wintreath's Finest is the name for Wintreath's citizen of the month. Nominations are for those who stood out as contributing or showing dedication to the region or having been extra active, caused activity, or been a good influence on others. The winner of April 2018 Wintreath's Finest was Gattoartico for his hosting of the successful regional game nights playing Realm of the Mad God and Minecraft. The winner of May 2018 Wintreath's Finest was Wintermoot for all of the work he has done to update and redesign the recruitment system, the forums header, the newsfeed, and other areas of the forums. Other nominees for the two months were Elbbsas for creating and hosting the Wintreath Escape Room, taulover for organizing and getting the Orendi out regularly, and Hydra for designing each Orendi.
Avatar Theme of the Month is the theme (or themes) nominated and voted on by citizens who then incorporate the winning theme(s) into their avatars for the month. Themes are often related to current events, though they may also include themes nominated at the random whims of citizens. May's winning theme was Anything That Rhymes with May, beating out other themes such as Minecraft, Han Solo, and Justin Timberlake. June's winning themes were a tie between Alaska and Cats. Crushita adopted an avatar that is unquestionably the most fitting: a picture of Mayor Stubbs, the cat who was the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, for twenty years.
Spyfall is an easy-to-learn forum game where the lone undercover spy tries to figure out the location of the game while all the other players, who act in their given roles related to the location, try to figure out who the spy is. Spyfall VIII, which was hosted by North, lasted from early March until May. The location of the game was the United Nations with players given the roles of ambassadors from different countries. Hydra, the Spy, ultimately did not successfully announce the location before being correctly voted off as the spy by a majority of the players, which was initiated by Doc, making this only the second time in Wintreath that the Spy lost. There were apparently some miscommunications as to how and when the Spy could make his guess, but everyone including Hydra agreed to have enjoyed the game.

    The Pandemonium RP Begins!

    by taulover ft. AJ

Advertised as "a roleplay of possibly infinite possibilities, but also structured," Pandemonium is a Discord-based RP set in a dimensional cluster, ruled by gods. Here, AJ'BLarg, the GM, explains the setting:
The existence of Pandemonium is built on a simple principle. Planes. The five main planes are the main realms of Bael'Kath, Olv'Thrane, Alissa, Santioc, and Xaelinoc. Pandemonium itself is a centralized dimension inside the capital of Xaelinoc, accessed by a single portal. Each of the six realms is vast, and each the size of an entire plane of existence. There's other planes that exist, and possibly will come into play.
Each plane is vastly different. Xaelinoc is the plane of the demons, ruled by the mighty Demonous Clan. Santioc is the plane of the angels, led by the Fallen Angel Cardina. Olv'Thrane is the plane of the elves, led by the mighty Zermophium, who is said to have the power of the world tree of the plane itself. Alissa, led by the Draconic Maelikor, leader of the humans. Bael'Kath, the realm of chaos and horror, led by the monstrous Xernia. Pandemonium, the capital of the collective, led by Kessek Demonous, the God-King.
If you dare to try your fate, possibly rise up in the ranks, come to the Multi-Plex of Pandemonium. Or perhaps lie in wait until your plane comes under the scope of the Multi-Plex. The possibilities are infinite in the multiverse. How will you fit in?
AJ has much experience GM'ing roleplays online. On comparing RP'ing via forum and Discord, AJ stated his opinion that "Discord is an easier and less intimidating platform." It will undoubtedly be exciting to see the Wintrean RP community evolve as it takes on this new direction of RP'ing and broadens into new platforms.
If you're interested in this RP, you can contact AJ#4382 on Discord.

Wintreans Share Food That They Made!

These are some potato wedges that I made! New potatoes cut into wedges, shredded Parmesan cheese, garlic powder and salt, and some parsley after it came out of the oven. I could have baked them a bit longer to crisp the outside more, but the flavour was fantastic, and went great with ranch dressing as a dip. It won approval in my house, at least. :D

This is currently one of my favourite dinners. Bobotie: a mince dish, with copious amounts of fruit, curry powder, and milk-soaked bread. I have to start making it at a bit past one for it to be serveable by six, and the egg layer on top keeps consistently being runny, but I'm getting there!

My take at raspberry fool, based on a recipe on Food Network and the ingredients that I happened to have. I actually decided to totally mix in the raspberries and cream to give it a uniform flavour. I'm not usually a big fan of raspberries, but it was good with ladyfingers. :D
I also made this with strawberries yesterday, and it's very much my thing. :)
Feel free to share your own favorite recipes at the Howling Wind Tavern!

An Interview with Gattoartico about the New Modded Minecraft Server

    by taulover
Gattoartico tours Furnace Lane, near the spawn of the modded server.

Wintreath has had a thriving Minecraft community for many years, with a vanilla server dating back to 2014. Recently, however, Wintreath has expanded its scope in Minecraft to mods. Joining me today discuss this topic is Gattoartico, our Thane of Gaming, who has launched a modded server based on a custom modpack.
Why did you choose to make the Wintreath modded Minecraft server?
It partially spawned from a conversation with Trader on the Vanilla server. We were discussing plans for militarization of Castle Terrinian and High Castle, with missiles and sentry armies. As a result I started compiling the mods I already played with and asked for mod suggestions. It kinda became a desire of mine to see Spawn on Wintreath Server being nuked. We don't have that map but the one we do have is a close second!
How did you decide what mods made the cut for the server pack?
Some of them were mods I loved previously, like AbyssalCraft which adds in elements of Lovecraft to the game. As well as mods that others suggested. The existing server pack is one that I slimmed down to the largest pack that would put the least stress on the kind of crappy laptop the server is on. It's still pretty full but without any truly heavy hitting mods.
What have been some of the biggest difficulties of getting the modded server up and running?
One of the biggest issues was finding the right hardware and pack size. Occasionally I take the server down for "maintenance," which is just code for the me getting tired of hearing the fan howling. I do intend to upgrade the server hardware in the near future, as trying to run it off of a first gen i3 really isn't helping performance.
What is the most interesting thing you've seen on the modded server?
Definitely the building styles of the players. Everyone on the server has kinda the same Dwarven mantra going, "Dig deep, and then dig deeper." Outside of my constructs most buildings on the server go down and not up. Which can be seen with the construction of Deepholm, Crushita's dwarven stronghold in the deep. Out of everything it is still the second deepest structure on the server. The only thing that goes deeper is my Mortis Engine. And boy is that sucker deep.
But then that may be warranted. After all, nuclear powers are on the rise server side. So digging deep may be a result of the expanding nuclear arsenals. Out of which mine still dominates the server at nearly sixty silos scattered across four dimensions.
Do you prefer vanilla or modded Minecraft?
I would have to say modded. I like the plethora of new and strange things mods add to the game. Alongside technology and magic I enjoy the variety of dimensions, creatures, and weapons you can find.
What are you plans for the future of the server?
The first thing on the list is upgrading the hardware. Ideally I want to to have an i5 or i7 as the processor and at the very least 16gbs of ram. Then the pack will go full and y'all will get the true world save. Where the server capital is a massive mountain range with sheer cliff faces. And the days prior to the server world and pack change I plan on dropping a total war scenario on y'all. Nuke each other and fight my dudes.

    Thanks for reading!

They say it, because it's true, Dear.
Also, when I was delegate the last time, the region was going through a period of low government style participation. The people just weren't interested in writing laws. So I declared there to be only two rules in TWP.
    1. Don't be a dick (Wheaton's Law)
    2. All your chocolate belongs to Darkesia. (I share, of course)
The rules are very practical and therefore have stood the test of time.

    No, for several reasons.
When young, optimistic Law School graduates sit for the Bar exam, they often describe it as a grueling, terrible experience. This is because their souls are being removed during the testing.
This may or may not have something to do with the taste of Darkesian Chocolate, the ruthlessness of the world's lawyers and/or my expectation to live a very, very long time.

I just had this suit dry cleaned. I don't want to get newbie blood all over it!  *bursts into tears*

    Hello to all

I usually hang in Lazarus but recently I have been making an effort to tour other regions as well. I'm liking TWP more than the rest ... beautiful forum, clean theme, neat laws, what's not to like

It's nice to meet you all

    To the great nations of TWP, and the rest of us too;
Hello again!  I have been around, as you may know.  But I have decided that TWP is in need of some Chocolate and I wish to begin stirring up trouble contributing to the region once again.
Ask me anything.  I'll try to answer.  Of course, I may not answer in the manner you like, but I will answer.  Besides, this seems easier than writing a long post in the reminiscing thread that Eli started.
