  1. Idem. PS Applies to Post only, not Edit (at least on my end).
  2. Drachmaland does not have any religion-related holidays. However, everyone is utterly free to observe whatever they want, whenever they wish. There are no religious traditions either, for the only Drachmalandian tradition is pure logic. Still, everyone is again utterly free to name "tradition" whatever they have deviated from pure logic for.
  3. The list I posted is the latest census data for the Influence metric of the game, where the Influence reflects the in-game stat of core influence plus SPDR. I posted it here because of this thread's title, despite the fact that when we talk about an influential region we typically mean what power it can exert on other regions or the game in general, lobby for NS-wide changes and so on. The list includes to top-50 of the Influence stat for regions, followed by the total number of nations when this stat was calculated. This reflects accurately which regions enforce low endo caps and/or are home to long-time residents.

  5. The precise numbers for a Benevolent Dictatorship are: Civil Rights = 73 and above Political Freedoms = 34 and below Economic Freedoms have to be very high (to a degree that would lead e.g. to Capitalizt, Anarchy, Capitalist Paradise etc for other freedom mixtures). Economy (strength) can be anything from 0 to 100. When I saw it I thought it was an (intended) feature, not an (overlooked) bug.
  6. This is true, of course. But the main issue with NS Issues is that in lots of cases these pros and cons are totally unforeseen and/or counter-intuitive (and thus a hurdle to a nation's goal).
  7. Ultimately it's a question of whether you want to have a military or not — you can be a Benevolent Dictatorship either way. If having a military is OK with you, then option 1 will decrease your Political Freedom, which is something you want to have.
  8. A Benevolent Dictatorship needs high Civil Rights, high Economic Freedom, low Political Freedoms. Option 2 in Issue #013 boosts only Civil Rights, so it is the most fitting for your goal.
  9. Glad to see you moving to a higher-visibility state, then!
  10. True that, except that there are two places that have by convention only one direction available — and that would be the poles: when in the North Pole, everything else is south of you, while east and west bear no meaning there.
  11. I thought of creating this as a means to getting some offsite participation in my field: http://www.westpacific.org/forums/index.php?/topic/1694-whats-your-worst-experience-from-a-daily-issue-in-ns/ What do you think?
  12. You all know them; as a matter of fact, it is probably the very first thing players notice when they create their first nation in NationStates (but they then get flooded with recruitment TGs and lose focus — but that's another story). Down the track, you soon get used to keep getting them — usually twice per day, as is the default setting: Yes, we're talking about the NS Daily Issues. They're extreme and (usually) funny, full of unexpected twists and witty unforeseen effects — or at least this is what their editors aim for. Some players ignore them, some dismiss them mechanically, others regard them a part of their NS routine — and some others get overly excited about them. But the truth is that, no matter how a player sees or handles them, there is always this stingingly unforgettable experience from when a decision of yours in an issue your nation was facing led to a result that was so utterly strange, unforeseen, extreme, catastrophic or just plain unfair, that it simply made you boil for days (while cursing NS and its Issues Editors) and you may even cannot let go even today. This could be because you met that issue that can drop a 100/100 Economy to zero, or the other one that kicks you out of the WA, or one that destroyed a stat you'd been working ultra hard to achieve and maintain — or simply pressed the wrong button and have been waiting for ages for a reversing issue that you still haven't received. Or it can be something that is actually hilarious. So, please share with us that worst experience of yours from a daily issue. No consequence is too small or too foreseeable to include — and you can vent as much as you wish. Let this time be an opportunity for closure — with fun and wit, in a classic NS 'n TWP way!
  13. Is there any simple explanatory of how this is played? This April Fools day, NS introduced their own version, and I didn't get it at all. (But I rock at NS Challenge — so I got that goin' for me, which is nice. )
  14. I've been always pondering about that (region-wide TG's possibility of backfiring cost VS boosting activity benefit). E.g. TP sent really lots of TG's just for one event (Z4), and they got the result they were seeking. Same thing happens in other regions too, GCRs and UCRs alike. I came to believe that, if you kinda lose some because they're irritated by regional TG's, you actually never had them in the first place. But can you afford not winning over the ones who will get inspired to act and/or participate?
  15. [parenthetic comment follows, I don't intend to disrupt this conversation's flow] The opening post (and the follow-up discussion, as well) is useful and I'm glad that That Called the Vlagh initiated it. And it is useful indeed, because our need for increased participation is a given — irrespective of persons involved or approaches being used. It is therefore important that we pursue an intense and sustained level of participation even if we have started seeing positive results.
  16. I merged Kingstononia's thread with the forum's pre-existing one for this issue. If there are questions from Kingstononia's part that are not addressed with what has already been discussed here, then we'll be happy to answer those ones, too.
