  1. Kantrias Update: February/March An Experienced 16th Senate Results in Interior Action In the February Senate Elections citizens chose among four well-known candidates, as well as two eager new faces. While the vote was close and almost made one newcomer a senator, Kantrias chose in the end to place its government in the hands of experience once again. Since then, the new senators have been working largely behind the scenes. Senator MagentaFairy imparts, "We're reworking some of the older systems in the Senate. It's more internal than external though - all in the hopes that the Senate can be more productive for the future." Kantrias speaks of a possible economy Close after the notable reformation movements of last month, rumors of a possible Kantrian economy have surfaced. This is not a new idea; Kantrias has entertained the notion of an economy since its founding. However, as the compatibility of Kantrias' structure with an economy has been questioned, the idea has been forestalled and even countered by some. "I think that as of this exact moment, the economy would do no harm to Kantrias as a whole, but wouldn't really change the situation in any radical way," senator Roman Pierce comments. "The problem is that we just don't have any way of giving an incentive to try and get more money and spend it in creative ways. As multiple people have stated, having a lot of money in this economy wouldn't really grant you any power or give you many opportunities to spend it. We need to have an incentive to seek out ways to make money and a way to use that money to give yourself advantages." Talk of the economy flourished near the beginning of the month but slowed down as uncertainties on the best economy for the region emerged. While only time will tell what lies ahead for Kantrias, the idea remains but a rumor among citizens for now. Citizens lobby for various Kantrias themes As mentioned in the last update, Kantrias has undertaken a renaming of several Ministries and government positions. This renaming was not restricted to the government or the king but was instead opened for the participation of the public. Citizens suggested numerous names, struck several others down, and amended others for days before coming to any agreements. By the end of February, though, most or all of the new titles were decided and put into place. Some of the new Ministries include The Lily and its governing Institute for Cultural Development, formerly combined in the Ministry of Culture, now directed by the Curator of the Institute; Castle Malderian, the former Ministry of War, now commanded by the High Marshall; and the Agency, a new ministry entirely, lead by the Director. The official description of the ministry reads, "The Agency of Activity and Intergration of New Citizens to the Greater Kantrian Area in the Field of Public and Private Job Placement (Simply called "The Agency") for short was created as the rising industrialization created a need for an expanded bureaucracy to staff positions, and to handle the job-placement of the unemployed in private postings as well. Headed by The Director." The ICD Announces a Timeless Contest As part of the restructuring which began in January, Kantrias recently founded the Institute for Cultural Development, which has kept quite busy since it began. Composed of several ambitious artists and seeking even more, it just launched its first large contest, called "A City in Time." The contest calls Kantrians to build a new city for the region, complete with a title, overview, and engaging historical background. They are to be submitted by the 18th, at which time the public will have the chance to vote on their favorite city. The winning city will be preserved in Kantrias forever as part of our official history. The winner will also receive additional rewards. "A City in Time is an expansion of Kantrian history and consequently culture," says the contest's main author, Jimothy Wright. "It shows us how each other invisions the region, then immortalizes the sentiments of this time. In a year from now perhaps it will be something quite different, whilst the Kantrians of that time admire their past. Furthermore, it encourages thoughts of what Kantrias is and draws people into the community of the region. This is why I believe the event ought to be a large success, ere I must encourage everyone to participate." Citizens of other regions, as well as Kantrias citizens, will be able to read about the winning city as a dispatch on Kantrias' World Factbook Entry. For the first time, unexperienced citizens take over the Senate The March senate elections got off to a slow start this time around, as previous senators sought a break from this area of government. Little did they realize this would result in the first ever board of all unexperienced senators. Victorious people, the newest Kantrias citizen of the Senate, ran affiliated with the Insanity Party under an ambitious philosophy of activity, as well as amendments to some of Kantrias' recent laws, such as the Criminal Code and the Senate Inactivity Act. He also mentioned his wish to get more involved in Kantrias through his responsibility as a senator. "I think a term on the Senate would be an excellent chance for me to get started in Kantrias," he said. " I want to use my activity to help encourage others to do the same, and I want to build experience by serving on the Senate." Datford-Zyvetskistaahn ran without a party affiliation, mainly to increase the number of senators serving this cycle. Because Zyvetskistaahn did not announce a platform on his policies as senator, citizens cannot guess what he will do with this new position, but instead wait to see. Adara Vidalia was the last to stand for senate, affiliated with the insanity party. She stated her primary goal of encouraging various kinds of activity in the region, both for newcomers and earlier citizens. She also stated a wish to involve the public in each of her senate decisions. "I ask you to trust the logic and reasoning of my fellow senators and I to make decisions," she explained. "But even so, I would welcome the input of other citizens, and I would do what I could to encourage others to speak with me about any of my policies they don't agree with."
  2. Kantrias Update: January Celebrations Kantrias Celebrates Its Alliance with The South Pacific Kantrias and The South Pacific came together from January 24 to the 31st to celebrate the Treaty of Amity and Non-Aggression between the regions. Citizens enjoyed the festival in Kantrias for the first four days and in The South Pacific for the remaining four. King Cerian described the celebration as “a way to share culture and build a foundation for ties in future relations”. The festival revitalized the accord between The South Pacific and Kantrias, with games, friendly conversations and more. The Lady of Escade, leader of The South Pacific, also joined in the festivities, saying “I'd like to deeply thank Cerian Quilor and the citizens of Kantrias for hosting us in a graceful manner and we deeply enjoy partaking with them in fine entertainment, discussion, and camaraderie.” Elections A False Start Leads to Another By-Election Close after one senatorial election recently ended, Kantrians unfortunately had to begin another when new Kantrias citizen and senator Matt Rohn disappeared on January 20. In response to his extended absence, King Cerian opened the floor for potential new senators to take Rohn’s place. Three citizens took this opportunity, including newcomer Groeien, Prince Caldemar, and Rix Valdoxian, who won the election by two points. Valdoxian now works with senators Roman Pierce and Jimothy Wright. The Royal Kantrian Army Influences the Vote for the New World Assembly Delegate Current WA Delegate Bharat stands against Prince Caldemar in the election for Kantrias’ next delegate, but more than Bharat’s reputation will affect the winner of this race. Members of the Royal Kantrian Army have come together against Caldemar’s victory, arguing that as WA Delegate the Prince would become a less effective soldier in the army. Caldemar’s attempts to convince the people of his ability to perform both positions well do not seem to be working, but the vote is still close and the outcome unclear. Domestic Affairs The Citizens of Kantrias Reconsider the Structure of the Region After a critical survey of Kantrias, King Cerian initiated a movement to amend the region’s structure. No one thing in particular was targeted for reform; instead, citizens focused on overall image and framework. As the king explained, “Kantrias has always been proud of its unique themes and institutions, and the decision has been made that this distinctiveness should be spread to all levels of Kantrian government.” A few of the amendments have included the removal of the position of Lord Chancellor, previously one of the highest attainable positions in Kantrias; the modification of the themes of the Minstries, which are the main sectors of Kantrian society; and the renaming of various societal positions to match such modifications. Politics New Legislation May Streamline Government Processes A theme of reformation seemed to appear in Kantrias this government cycle, as much of the Senate’s legislation dealt with making government processes more efficient. Arguably influenced by the current reforms taking place all across Kantrias, the proposals included the Senatorial Inactivity Amendment, which would amend the by-election process; the Breaking the Stalemate act, which would give the king a tie-breaking vote when senators fail to reach a majority regarding a proposal; and the Heir’s Political Freedom act, which would allow the Heir Apparent to stand for other government positions if he so chooses.
  3. Kantrias Update: October--December Celebrations A Meaningful New Holiday and a Splendid Old One Kantrias’ celebrated its very first anniversary with a marvelous festival last fall. People gave heartfelt speeches, participated in artistic contests, played games of luck and skill, and discussed ways to make Kantrias even greater. As a treat, some citizens from Kantrias’ younger days gave newcomers tales of how things used to be. Overall, the festival honored the dedication of all who made Kantrias what it is today. Deeper in the winter, Kantrias enjoyed a lively cross-regional Christmas festival with friends in the region of Ainur. Contests, games, and casual discussions—and even an elegant Winter Ball that quickly descended into madness—made for a splendid celebration and brought the two regions closer as allies. Politics ADMIN NOTE: image removed at this point due to malware warning..... Newcomers Jump into the Fray; A Senator Vanishes; One Election on the Heels of Another This past season, voters choose from one of six candidates for the 13th senate beginning on the 9th of November. Half of them—Teach, Proto105, and Rulza—were ambitious newcomers who had joined Kantrias no earlier than the month before. However Rulza, who did become a senator, disappeared shortly after. Promising a leave of absence no longer than Tuesday the 19th of November, he has not appeared in Kantrias since the 16th of that month. His disappearance prompted a By-Election for a new senator on December 4, about two weeks after his disappearance. After a close vote, Prince Caldemar became the new senator. Luckily he managed to keep his new position through the next senatorial election, which began only a week afterwards on Dec 11. He and five others ran for this 14th senate, but this time newcomers avoided the elections. The 3rd chancellor elections occurred around November 9th as well, with a victory for Senator Micro Kohala. Foreign Conflicts An Aggressive Spirit Waxes and Wanes among Allies. The season for war held strong this October. As close war allies, Kantrias, Europeia, and the United Imperial Armed Forces (the UIAF) took turns helping each other capture foreign regions. Kantrias Invasions: Europeia and the UIAF aided Kantrias in its successful invasion of The Creed and 4Chan Party Van. The Creed was a small, unstable region that has remained so since the invasion. 4Chan Party Van has since been deleted and sent to the NationStates Boneyard. The UIAF also aided Kantrias in the successful invasion of small, static region Zemilid, at the same time as The Creed invasion. UIAF Invasions: Kantrias joined the UIAF, and sometimes its allies, to capture The Empire of Cats and New Zealand. Europeia invasions: Kantrias and the UIAF joined Europeia in its invasion of The Impact Federation. Kantrias also helped Europeia to capture Global Call, Axis Dictatorship, and Next Superpowers of Planet Earth. While the fall season was marked by several victories, holiday spirit had begun to replace the spirit of battle by November, and the number of invasions among the allies dwindled. In Other News Sara Lucky Leutria Quilor became the newest addition to the royal family when Prince Caldemar announced his adoption of her on October 19.The Land of Kings and Emperors invited Kantrians to their Emperor’s Ascension Festival near the year’s end.A few citizens gathered for a protest over the temporary Christmas-themed forum skin, citing the slightly brighter colors as excuses (cross out) valid reasons to bring out their pitchforks, torches, blackjack and other weapons.New citizen Adara Vidalia was hired as the next director of The Asylum News, a political newspaper for the Insanity Party of Kantrias.

The race for seats in the 8th senate was the largest yet, with 8 candidates standing for the 6 seats on offer. Caldemar Leutria, Krimson Vulika, Valfor, MagentaFairy, Josh Sebastian, and SPQR were elected and soon settled into business. The senate unanimously selected Caldemar Leutria to be Senate Speaker for the second time. The senate also approved the King’s ministerial nominations, with Christopher Bishop returning as General of the Royal Kantrian Army, new face Bharat selected to take on the role of Minister for Culture, Caldemar Leutria appointed as Minister of the Interior, and Krimson Vulika returning to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. The new role of Herald, responsible for writing the regional update, was given to Lucy Delacroix. The King honoured Edward Leben, long serving senator and High Tribunal Justice, for his extraordinary service to the realm, granting him the title of Patrician. The King praised his work in several High Tribunal cases and his incredible contributions to the region's political life. Kantrias recently formalised the close ties it shares with other regions recently with the signing of several treaties. Finally, the senate agreed to the Monarchist Treaty, providing a strong basis for future cooperation with our friends in other monarchist regions. In Judicial news, former senator and senate speaker Jimothy Wright was appointed to the High Tribunal, filling a long standing vacancy. Justice Wright is certainly a committed choice for the role; he doesn't give up. In fact you could say... he just doesn't know when to acquit! /Puns Captivating Culture – Contests, Cooperation, and Cogitation The Griffon, Kantrias' New unofficial mascot! Proud! Strong! Free! With entries ranging from Rapidash to White Tiger, Thylacine to Mammoth, the final round saw the pairing off of the Griffon with the official emblem of the Gavel and Sword. The Griffon was the standout winner, but as this was an unofficial completion the Gavel and Sword, that shining symbol of Kantrian stability and strength, is not going anywhere. In unrelated news, sales of birdseed have sky-rocketed. Last month the region held a cross cultural festival with our good friends in Europeia. Senatorial Shuffling – Elections and Accolades The senate is in session The political scene in Kantrias is going from strength to strength, with debate and discussion filling the offices of Senate. Early legislation has focused on defining the boundaries of the three pillars of Kantrian government. The separation of powers has been foremost in the minds of the public, and this was reflected in the spirited debate which gripped the forums. Unfortunately though, this meant Senator Azawd was forced to resign his Senate position to take up a prestigious role as one of the three High Tribunal Justices. Also selected were the redoubtable Christopher Bishop and the mercurial Christian Wright. The resignation of Azawd opened the door for an exciting by-election which saw the candidates of Xenia Sovetskie and Josh Sebastian, race neck and neck towards the finish line. With only thirty minutes remaining till the close of polls, Josh Sebastian took the lead and became the newest member of the Senate in a contest which is sure to be recorded as one of the tightest in Kantrian history. Senator Sebastian, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated the aims of his term are to clarify the process for citizens wishing to propose legislation to the senate, pass legislation to bar Senators and Royal Councillors from holding the position of High Tribunal Justices, and to work towards a law governing the role of the World Assembly Delegate. Congratulations were in order for Minister of the Interior and Royal Councillor Caldemar, who was honoured by the King for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the region. The Minister expressed his desire to continue to serve Kantrias as it continues to grow into an active and powerful region. Captivating Culture –Roleplaying, Writing and Podcasts! Oh my! The Kantrias book club is well on its way to starting its first book, Steven Erikson’s Gardens of the Moon. Member will soon dive into the exciting world of Malazan and discuss the themes and issues explored in this weighty tome. The roleplay area is alive to the sounds of hissing steam as an airship expedition departs to new lands and distant horizons in Steam Colonisation. Action is also heating up in Xenia Sovetskie’s Supremacy: Kantrias, as players create the nations they will control in the upcoming drama. Queen Eliora Lockwood and the Ministry of Culture have launched an exciting new short story contest. Participants are invited to put their own spin of classic fairy tales, creating dark new fables. Entries should be 500-5000 words in length and must be submitted by December the 7th, 2012. The Kantrian Public News Service also launched its first Skype talk show. Cerian Quilor, Caldemar, Eliora Lockwood and Jimothy Wright treated us to an auditory extravaganza as discussion led from the politics of Kantrias to Pop-tart based feline invasions. Martial Manoeuvrers – The Royal Kantrian Army marches to battle Kantrian forces on Parade Kantrias is a land that is willing to extend its diplomatic reach by means other than the olive branch. It’s been an active time for the Royal Kantrian Army, as military units move to support allied engagements across a number of regions and the King launches the Royal Kantrian Army Reserve program. Forces loyal to Kantrias moved to support The Brotherhood of Malice during their conquest of the Roman Empire. Other units swooped in to aid The Black Hawks in their continued occupation of The Islands of Eastern Dharma. The Army Reserve was established to allow a more casual exploration of military gameplay for those who wanted it, while at the same time enhancing Kantrias’ military capability by supplying a ready and willing band of warriors for when push comes to shove. This time last term, I was preparing to send out this Introduction rather than writing one myself. I'm Seven Deaths and I am the Vice President for this term. I'm very excited to be working alongside my long time friend and brother, Vinage. Honestly, it'll be tough trying to match the legend that is Lethen, but I'll keep striving to do my best.
