  1. "Hey there Giovanniland, guess what time it is? It's 5 PM on a Sunday, but also time for another Chess Report! I am your host Vanessa Desniana, and together with my colleague Karlo Nakamura-Edrense, I'll present the match results and group standings for the games that happened during June 26th and 27th for Matchday 4 of the Giovannilandian Chess Championship, as the group stage soon draws to a close." Group A Group B Group C GM Gianna Superbo-Legia, 2669 1-0 IM Gratia Frigiva-Lukio, 2483 GM Antonio Ambrosio Borba, 2557 1-0 CM Artorio Flavio Silva, 2421 Amanda Gilvano Valli, 2301 1-0 Gabriella Ambroso, 2277 GM Sergio Amorante-Aquilano, 2701 0-1 IM Markia Allamore, 2505 GM Gustavo Takeda, 2601 1-0 CM Lukia Aquilano-Severino, 2415 CM Lorentia Gavione, 2376 0-1 Vanessa Tiberiano Edrense, 2243 GM Karlo Neurino-Sousa, 2675 1/2-1/2 IM Gioseppa Opiternio, 2479 GM Giulietta Quintana-Altada, 2576 1/2-1/2 CM Serena Agrikola, 2393 Vittor Urbano-Allamore, 2311 1-0 Giordano Feragi, 2178 Group D Group E Group F GM Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone, 2753 0-1 IM Gepelle Gormo-Pasano, 2487 GM Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, 2541 1-0 CM Flavia Altokastro, 2391 Amando Nevio-Karpo, 2296 1-0 Elvidio Violeto Prasino, 2251 GM Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso, 2678 1/2-1/2 IM Filippo Ottaviano, 2494 GM Severo Spindola Giordano, 2622 1-0 CM Raffello Volturrio-Suevio, 2400 CM Tommaso Koliva, 2354 1-0 Felige Numeriana-Velio, 2222 GM Raffella Quadrigaro, 2787 0-1 IM Aurelio Vindemia Orfeo, 2520 GM Giuliana Flaviano-Emina, 2636 1-0 IM Pietro Maldonato-Violeto, 2443 CM Tiberio Serano-Bruttia, 2355 0-1 Sebastiana Glendora, 2255 Vanessa started commenting on the results: "Considering I said Matchday 3 had a lower amount of draws, I'll have to correct myself now, because Matchday 4 beat its predecessor with a total of only three draws on all 18 matches. Group A was probably the only group that went totally as expected if we look at ELO ratings. In this group, Grandmaster Gianna Superbo-Legia was able to recover after last matchday's upset, while former group leader Candidate Master Artorio Flavio Silva did not hold on to their position as they lost to Grandmaster Antonio Ambrosio Borba. Meanwhile, Group C had some upsets, as neither grandmaster in this group could defeat their lower-ranked opponent, something that also happened in Group E, in which Grandmaster Giovanni Amdo-Gyasso drew with International Master Filippo Ottaviano. Otherwise, the other matches of these groups also went as expected." "However, the upsets I mentioned above were nowhere close to what happened in Groups B, D and F, in which all top-ranked grandmasters of these groups lost to their lower-ranked opponents—Grandmasters Sergio Amorante-Aquilano, Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone, and Raffella Quadrigaro lost to International Masters Markia Allamore, Gepelle Gormo-Pasano and Aurelio Vindemia Orfeo respectively. This comes off as a surprising upset for many chess commenters and viewers, since it includes a former champion and the current defending one. Furthermore, these groups also featured Candidate Masters Lorentia Gavione and Tiberio Serano-Bruttia losing to lower-ranked Vanessa Tiberiano Edrense and Sebastiana Glendora respectively." You will notice they have some special colors, whose meanings can be seen in the color key above, indicating the status of players regarding qualification to the knockout phase. We'll start talking about Group B, which features the only player that has completely avoided elimination, Grandmaster Gustavo Takeda, who is also the only to have won every single match so far. Grandmaster Sergio Amorante-Aquilano from the same group is also in a good place, but should aim to win the upcoming match against Gustavo if they don't want to be relegated to 3rd place and rely on other 3rd-placed in the case International Master Markia Allamore wins their last match. Group B is also the only group to have only one already eliminated player, as 4th place Lukia Aquilano-Severino and 5th place Vanessa Tiberiano Edrense are still in the fight to achieve one of the four best 3rd place spots." He sips some tea before speaking to the viewers again: "Moving on, we have Groups A and C, which all have the same amount of players in each category: one guaranteed to have at least 3rd place, three still in the fight for qualification, and two eliminated. Group D has a similar distribution, with defending champion Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone notably at the risk of being eliminated. Finally, Groups E and F have the exact same rankings by points, but some differences in the distribution of wins, draws, and losses, which means they have a different number of players in each category. Group E has three players with guaranteed 3rd place at the least, and the other three already eliminated." "This is due to the fact that, if 3rd place Severo Spindola Giordano loses and 4th place Filippo Ottaviano wins, they would have the exact same statistics and then Severo would win due to a higher ELO rating," Karlo explains. "But that is not true for Group E, if the same happens with 3rd place Aurelio Vindemia Orfeo and 4th place Pietro Maldonato-Violeto, Pietro would knock Aurelio out of the top 3 due to a higher amount of wins. That's all for today, stay tuned for the Matchday 5 during June 29th and 30th, including the interesting matches between the two Grandmasters of each group!"
