Arch Lord Zoriontsu Et Vin Gehien dead at 87

3rd Ondora, 1956

Zoriontsu Et Vin Gehien, former Arch Lord of the Azten-Za, has died peacefully in his Ior Aria estate.

The Arch Lord, whose full name was Ekain Azukha re Nekhara Zoriontsu Et Vin Zakh Genien, suffered from repeated illness after his retirement from His Most Holy Council in 1954. He was credited for several diplomatic breakthroughs with the nation of Ostronia - and much of continental Nur - during his tenure in command of foreign affairs, as well as his position at the forefront of monumental social change throughout his life.

Lord Vin Gehien, a historic art expert, controversially stepped down from the Arch Council after the election and induction of his son Alios Et Syl Gehien. It is common for Arch Lords to hold their position for life, but Vin Gehien continually argued in favour of his abdication in the wake of the appointment.

He was elected to his position as the 128th Arch Lord of the Azten-Za in 1894. His predecessor, Arch Lord Ubekh Et Vin Zel Tilye, declared him worthy to take the position in 1899.

During his tenure he ushered in a period of great change within the foreign and defense ministries, which were his granted charges, easing out traditionalist elements and aligning with the reformist goals of His Radiance The Emperor. He personally oversaw the modernisation of His Most Holy Order of Cartographers in the wake of the 1922 Zheithol bombings, though his most sweeping reform was the complete replacement of every senior position within the foreign ministry in 1923.

He was a long advocate for transparency in government, and lobbied several times to amend the Sovereign Charter. It was speculated that Vin Gehien was chosen to bear the title of Emperor-Incarnate after the death of Arch Lord Mezh II Vin Atefor. It is yet unclear how the internal structure of The Arch Council has changed to accommodate his retirement.

His youngest son, Alios Et Vin Gehien, now heads both of his former ministries. He has said that the death of his father was a “profound loss for both the Infinite Empire and the whole world.”

He said: “I, and the millions of others whose lives have been in some way touched by his work, mourn the loss of an immaculate statesman and noble Lord - as well as a caring and brilliant father.

I take solace in the length and glory of my father’s life, and the knowledge that he will continue to watch over our line from on high.”

Arch Lord Alios, who was away on mission to Ostronia at his father’s passing, has arranged for an immediate return to Ior Aria. He is expected to address the nation and lead the rites of the celebration of legacy.

Lord Vin Gehien had been nominated to forego the traditional ceremony of unbinding upon his death, and will instead be wholly interred within the foundations of the Celestial Palace. He is the first Arch Lord to receive the honour in 85 years.

He is succeeded by two children, Alios and Gresa, and four grandchildren.
