  1. 2014 saw NS lose many influential people. Among them were Divair, Frisivisia, Thafoo, etc. In the past week we have seen the retirements of many famous players such as Cormac Stark, Ridersyl, Port Blood and Shadoke. It is likely that there will be more in the future.

I ask that we all take a moment of silence to remember our fallen.

So, Pacificans. Who's next? And when? I'm putting five dollars on Nephmir, within the next 5 months.

Cormac and Rydersyl I have heard of, and Port Blood has registered slightly in the last 3-4 years, but the others you mention have not surfaced on my personal radar.

Not wishing to denigrate their contributions but would you care to quantify what their achievements were that make them noteworthy?

  2. I am a member of the Revolutionary Party and share the highest active rank in TWPAF outside of the delegate.

The Revolutionary Party does not "own" TWPAF, but it has significant sway in its activities and development by proxy of Pestarzt. TWPAF is subordinate to the will of the delegate, ultimately, however, and the Party respects that.

The Reef Hounds are not part of the Revolutionary Party, and give notice that item 8 of its manifesto is highly objectionable:

"When the time comes for Darkesia to step down, the Revolution will, if all goes well, be the clear and undisputed root of The West Pacific's future. The Revolution will assimilate or stomp out all competitors."

  3. Nations that also move to a region they received a recruitment telegram from are also more likely to be active, so perhaps we can also work a small recruitment program that sends telegrams to newly formed nations in other feeder regions.

Target the regions they are moving to - it might take some analysis

Examine the "promises" that were delivered in the Recruiting TG and see if TWP offers the same scope

I think that retention is perhaps the area that needs considerable attention.

Take a look at the above screenshot form our happenings. As a feeder we are in the unenviable position of having nations "born" here.

    They fall into three categories

    • Nations that stay
    • Nations that move out
    • Puppets

There is probably not much we can do about the last category - these are nations that are created with a purpose other than participating in the region, destined in all probability for use as cannon fodder in the Raider Defender conflict

The first category obviously are deserving of our attention. If they are happy to stay here then we should of course seek to enrich their experience and  encourage their participation - do they know what is on offer?

However the second category is perhaps the one that contains the most potential.

If they are not puppets then the the fact that they have chosen to move could indicate a number of things

    • They have a curiosity  that extends beyond answering issues
    • They have been enticed by offers from other regions
    • They want to set up their own region
    • They see little prospect of a rewarding stay in TWP

Whilst any large region can be daunting, a visibly active and dynamic region will attract purely by virtue of being a happening place. Activity of itself is good but if that activity is not broadcast then we face the danger that besets most - insularity,

A new nation arriving in the region should be overwhelmed by friendliness, invited to roleplay, gameplay, participation in the regional government, offered the chance to carve out a career based in the region, not outside of it. It is not that all of this is not on offer here, but rather that there is no promotion of it.

  5. If only we had a rapid response unit that could be deployed to extinguish such transgressions of our regional sovereignty........

"We understood you were looking for settlers,,,,here. have some of our ambitious citizens, they like to call themselves colonists, No of course we will respect your regional rights, However we are duty bound to protect our citizens both at home or abroad so we fel it only fair to warn you that they expect affairs to be conducted in a certain fashion - just like in the old country if you get our drift!  Are they violent? We like to think of them as "energetically enthusiastic"
