3rd Rugby World Cup [rosters, roleplays, results]

"Come oooooooonnn!"

Now that was a grudge match. Only one try from the Dalimbari side in the entire match. Captain Artes was able to make a break through in the last few minutes of the match, but missing the conversion. It was finally an answer to the penalty kick from the opponents early on in the match. No side wanted to give. At all. In the end, it was enough to get the Dalimbari through to their rivals, the hosts.

Things were noticeably tight for the Dalimbari teams and their fans, even to just get into the stadium. There is an obvious sense of hatred towards the Boys in Blue here. The mockery of the Marshal was on full display, provided by what seems to be an occupation force from Cambria. Kin were heartened to hear of the burning effigies of the Queen of Cambria back in the homeland. Even if she was parading her status in another stadium before her side lost to the hosts.

Next comes Zoran. A repeat. On their home turf.

Maybe there's some spare landmines laying around?

Blubberman, SDCSN plead guilty but S-D Government's diplomatic woes remain

22nd February, 1422 | By Peter Atkinson in New Zoradia, ZOR

Santo-Dominian sports anchor and controversial television personality Approctoflecticus Blubberman has pleaded guilty today in a Zoranian court to charges of voicing hate speech against the people of Zoran. In a momentous development that shocked many onlooking political commentators, Mr. Blubberman chose not to contest the charges or fight Zoranian authorities in court, instead apparently accepting his fate. The Santo-Dominian Cable-Satellite Network(SDCSN), the eponymous country's sole dominant network and broadcaster which aired Mr. Blubberman's comments, also pleaded guilty to the charges filed under Zoran's Hate Speech Act of 1421.

The guilty pleas come as the Government of Santos-Dominius itself becomes ever more entrenched in an increasingly difficult diplomatic position. Despite reports of state-backed attempts to bribe the Zoranian Government into letting Blubberman off scot-free, all overtures to dislodge Friberne from the uneasy position of negotiating with New Zoradia have so far failed utterly. The problem has only been compounded by the fact that many of the Santo-Dominian national rugby team's sponsors are corporations who have been alleged to have financially supported atrocities during the Zoranian Civil War - Credit Santosie-Dominigne, one of the Federal Republic's most profitable and secret banking giants, has been particularly singled out by Zoranian media for reportedly providing funds to the now-infamous corporate faction in the Zoranian Civil War. The bank has flatly denied wrongdoing despite accusations from independent investigators that it retains significant amounts of Zoranian financial property stolen from their Zoranian owners during the war.

The highest echelons of the Santo-Dominian Government are rumoured to be in a state of great unease and panic. Unconfirmed reports have recently emerged of Acting President Donald Verbloem pressuring both Blubberman and the SDCSN to plead guilty to the hate speech charges, allegedly in order to appease Zoran and clear the way for eventual reconciliation in the distant future. Acting President Verbloem has been criticised domestically for failing to handle the Blubberman scandal in a timely manner and for failing to penalise Blubberman before his offensive remarks pushed the Zoranian public past its breaking point. Commentators have considered it likely that Verbloem pressured Blubberman and SDCSN into pleading guilty in order to save his own political career, which is currently in great jeopardy and will either survive or sink depending on the outcome of the entire scandal and subsequent political affair.

In recent days, Friberne has found itself under attack not only from New Zoradia, but also from Giovannistadt, which demanded Blubberman's removal from SDCSN. Decision-makers in Friberne have also heard that their diplomatic reputation has suffered in Sanctus Leo, where the Saint Markan royalty are reportedly displeased at the entire fiasco and the great embarrassment it has caused the former Saint Markan island colony. While the Santo-Dominian Government has not explicitly become involved in the situation, most analysts have now concluded that the Verbloem administration is involved to a certain degree in the struggle to soften the blow for Blubberman, SDCSN and the Federal Republic as a whole.

With the Government in full-blown damage control mode and Acting President Verbloem struggling to salvage the humiliating situation, analysts now suggest that a possible political shift may become reality in the Federal Republic. With only a short period of time left until the 1422 presidential election, Verbloem is expected to attempt to keep the country together as best as possible, so as to improve public opinion of his centre-right Democratic Congress Party(DCB). The DCB's presidential candidate is Carnet Goldberg, granddaughter of the late President Paul Goldberg, the former superior of Verbloem. As such, it is widely expected that the younger Goldberg will destroy the Acting President's already weak position within the party if her own presidential campaign fails due to his mismanagement. No comments have been made by Friberne on Blubberman's plea, but analysts say that a storm is approaching on the horizon back home.

TRANSCRIPT

Hello Zoran! I'm back from the hospital and I am happy to say that I am fine, there is no need to worry about me! I am sure lots of people were concerned about my wellbeing haha! Yeah! Hehe...anyways, I am reporting live from the RNN studio for my own health and wellbeing. So far we have seen the Zoranian Fire Birds play strong this Rugby World Cup and have seem them come out of this undefeated, so far. With a close win in yesterday's game against Cambria, 15-14, Zoran is, once again, going up against Dalimbar in the finals! This is looking like a repeat of the last world cup folks so let's see if we can repeat that result!

Coach Amadahy Lvaguta has been doing a phenomenal job with the team in this competition, especially after having lost several more experienced players. She has commented before about working on team cohesion and encouraging the players to work together as a team but when asked again recently she discussed her focus on the importance of mental health and having a team meeting about three members on the team who fought in the Civil War and who suffer from PTSD. She told us that the meeting was to make other teammates aware of their condition and to help them grow closer together while working together to play the best they can without the three player's condition affecting their play style. This is a rather unique approach to addressing this sensitive topic and could become a practice adopted by other Zoranian rugby teams in the future.

When asked about tomorrow's match with Dalimbar, Lvaguta commented that they will be watching how the Dalimbari played in previous matches in the world cup and work with the team to create an efficient but flexible strategy to counter them. She will also work on improving how the team played by looking at the previous matches and working with the team as a whole and the players individually to help them improve or correct some things they may have noticed. Rest assured, the team seems to be in capable hands and we will see how this all pans out in the final tomorrow!

It has been rumored that Queen Adsila will be attending this game as well, while this isn't the first time that this has happened this is certainly going to put more pressure on the team to perform well as to not disappoint her in the final. However, those living in New Zoradia who have seen the queen have recently said that she appears to be wearing more black than usual. Could this be a sign of mourning? And if so, of what? Will she be wearing black at the final? Who knows! I sure don't, that you can count on. But we will see what happens at the match tomorrow against Dalimbar where we shall find the answers to these questions and see if Zoran keeps the trophy or if it falls into Dalimbari hands!

STATEMENT BY AMBASSADOR OF THE FREE STATE OF DALIMBAR TO THE KINGDOM OF ZORAN, H.E. BRIG. GEN. LUIS COSTA

"It's coming home! Get your dirty paws off of our rightful trophy!"

The Ambassador also strongly condemns the use of Cambrian security goons during the Rugby World Cup.

Dear H.E. Brig. Gen. Luis Costa and friends,

Thank you for your letter, we're glad the World Cup has been enjoyable enough for the government of the Free State of Dalimbar to have an interest on its results, feel free to keep on hoping for victory!

Unfortunately we will not be handing over the trophy to you or getting rid of the Cambrian security, we like them both just where they are. And we won't be saying sorry, because it takes too long to get through all the paper work needed to enter Dalimbar just to hand over the trophy and Zoran is too far away from Cambria to justify sending the Cambrian security back when they have practically just arrived in the country, it would be rude to do so when they have barely been shown the beginning of our hospitality.

Yours sincerely,
