2nd TWP Rugby World Cup [rosters, roleplays, results]

Recommended Posts

The Dopin' Dogs are proud to announce that via our "lineup changes" that had no names change on the lineup, we were able to go back to our scoring ways.  The ditches that were built yesterday have been filled and covered up with a parking lot, and now more parking exists at the stadium.

Giovannilandian Rugby Report - 2nd Match

Welcome to the second match review of our Rugby Report! The Giovannilandiana Equipa played against the Minsuns on the third matchday of the 2nd TWP Rugby World Cup. Let's see how the game went:

Minsun Imperial Rugby Team 12-6 Giovannilandiana Equipa (Halftime: 5-6)

Drop Goals: Thomas Khan (29'), Lukas Jung (32')

First Half: It was not even 10 minutes past the clock and the Minsun had scored a try. Despite that, the valiant Giovannilandians did not give up, as a win would get them back up in a more comfortable position in Group 2. Nearing the end of the first half, two of our players successfully scored one drop goal each, giving Giovanniland a half-time lead!

Second Half: The first thirty minutes of the second half were quite uneventful, with the Giovannilandian defense stopping the Minsun players, but likewise, the Giovannilandian attack also not scoring any further points. Still, our team had the lead of one point. Unfortunately, another try was scored by Min-Su followed by a conversion. This gave the Minsun a lead of 12-6, which remained unaltered for the last few minutes. It was another loss to the Giovannilandian team at the hands of another nation in their first Rugby World Cup tournament.

Post-Match: Giovanniland is in dire need of points and will play against the fellow Auran nation of Bobki in the 4th matchday. Our team will need to win the matches against both Bobki and Dalimbar if they want to advance to the quarterfinals, and also hope that the Dalimbari and the Minsun do not score too much in their next games. Will our team achieve such a hard feat?

Match Report - Dalimbar (49.42) vs. Bobki (51.40)

Now that's Dalimbari-style rugby. Take no prisoners. Leave no opportunity for the opponent to move or have any chance at scoring. Grind down the opponent and break their spirits. Just like on the icy battlefields the Dalimbari fought not too long ago.

Was 30-0 necessary? Yes. After the shocking loss to Min-Su yesterday, the Dalimbari squad knew they had to completely dominate the field lest they find themselves working in the Frontier Mining Project after the tournament. Landmines just don't put themselves in the ground, you know.

Marshal Markus Briand made a special point of phoning Manager Colonel Nursan and the rest of the squad before the match, letting them know he still supported their efforts against the enemy, that Min-Su was officially on the list of barbaric enemies that the nation would deal with later. But the clear message sent to the team is that a loss to Bobki would be unacceptable. The boys in blue clearly got the message, especially when they couldn't locate Special Police Major Trolio the morning of the match.

Right out of the gate play was pushed into the Bobki half of the field and... stayed there. The first half saw three tries and two successful conversions, for 19 points. The second half saw a try and two penalties, for 30. Jubilation was running amongst the approved Dalimbari audience, who must have been at times slipping into the culture of Dilber compared to their more traditional Dalimbari upbringing.

"What in Thram's Hall was that! We couldn't score one point against Larxia!?! Everyone scores against Larxia! Our defense was awesome, but we can't be all defense! We had plenty of opportunities, but didn't take advantage of a single one of them!"

The rest of the team was just as upset as hot-tempered Gregor, but much better at maintaining the typical Markan equanimity.

Sir Evan raised his hand and the mumbling replies quieted.

"Gentlemen, we all knew this was going to be an uphill battle. Rugby is a new sport to Saint Mark. We've come a long way in a year. While yes, I was disappointed in our offense today and I know we can do much better, we are indeed making a good show of it. I have received word from the palace that His Serene Highness will be in attendance at our next game. It is also our last chance to make it to the quarter finals. The game isn't until later in the day, so we have plenty of time to review plays over and over again and still be well-rested. Let's get to it."

With sighs and groans, the team surrounded to coach and prepared for a long evening.

Adaikesians leveled with last year's runner-ups!

The United Adaikes National Rugby Team were in jitters as they faced the runner-ups from the previous (and inaugural) World Cup. The possession of the ball were back and forth between the two teams as neither can score with the extensive defense showed during the whole game. Scoring started in the second half with Fujanske getting a drop goal in the 54th minute coming from a long throw from the sidelines. United Adaikes returned the favor of a drop goal after a scrum in the 77th minute.

At the post-match press conference, Sharks coach Giovannie Gallardo had said, "We can say our defense was there. Y'know, they're the runner-ups, and I can say that we have done well against them. But we need to take a look into finding more opportunities in our offense. We'll be reviewing all of Saint Mark's games in this tournament and hopefully we can find a way to capitalize against their gameplay."

With the draw, Fujanske is ensured of a place in the quarterfinals. The result of the United Adaikes-Saint Mark's game will determine the final standings of the top three teams in Group D, while Larxia and Fhaengshia are out of the contention for a place in the knock-outs. Larxia has finished 4th in the group after drawing their last game with Saint Mark, while Fhaengshia has not picked up any wins yet. Fhaengshia will be playing against Fujanske but any result will have them stay at 5th in Group D.

HT: Fujai 0-0 United Adaikes
FT: Fujai 3-3 United Adaikes

Idag i Verden / Today in the World

Keiserholde, Fujai - When asked about the latest trade agreement between Larxia and Min-Su at a press conference today, Koalisjon VR Bo Bråten, member of the Velktinget Utanrikskommiteen (Velktinget Foreign Affairs Committee), stated "As can be seen by the text of the agreement, let alone the by the consequences it will have, that this is yet another example of Larxian imperialism and their growing influence in the southern hemisphere."

Dilber City, Dilber - The Landslag i Rugby has marked two wins and a draw after a first round bye in the Rugby World Cup. The Landslag previously took second place in the First Rugby World Cup and I Summer Olympics in Saint-Josalyn last summer. The first match saw them overcome the Markian team in a 6-0 victory, which saw no small amount of celebration by fans gathered in Dilber. Their second match against Larxia saw them widen their margin to 20-9, though their winning formula fell hard in a disappointing 3-3 draw against United Adaikes. Despite this, their success has secured the Landslag a spot in the knockout round, and according to the Adaikesian bookmakers, the top spot in the group if they can pull off a blowout against Fhaengshia in their next match.

Zimmerich, Reçueçn - Preparations are ongoing for a joint transportation conference between Universität Zimmerich and Universitet i Strafsund. It is expected to be a hub of discussion between Fujansk and Reçuecian planners on expanding the informal continental high-speed rail system. While there are several lines that cross international borders, the administration of these transportation corridors varies wildly in each country, disrupting easy travel, particularly here in the high north, where airplanes are not as common as in the south.

Lakseåker, Fujai - In the hometown of three national rugby players in the center of Fujai's relatively small rugby culture, people have been glued to television sets in pubs and community centers across the city for the past days. As the Landslag pushes its way forward, celebrations will become more common, culminating, we all hope, in another tense showdown for the championship.

Giovannilandian Rugby Report - 3rd Match

Welcome to the third match review of our Rugby Report! The Giovannilandiana Equipa played against the Bobkians on the fourth matchday of the 2nd TWP Rugby World Cup. Let's see how the game went:

Giovannilandiana Equipa 12-0 Bobki (Halftime: 7-0)

Tries: Arabella Jacques (22'), Gustavo Borges (64')

Conversions: Arabella Jacques (23')

First Half: The Giovannilandian players got several chances to score during the first half, although only Arabella Jacques managed to score a try and a conversion. This earned Giovanniland seven points against Bobki, whose players tried to attack but were no match for the Giovannilandian defense.

Second Half: For the second half, our coach decided to save efforts for the next game against the Dalimbari, thus some substitutions were made. Nevertheless, the tighthead prop Gustavo Borges further scored another five points for Giovanniland and the final score of 12-0 remained unchanged for the last few minutes. At long last, the Giovannilandiana had won a match in this World Cup.

Post-Match: Giovanniland is currently placed fourth in Group 2, although the possibility of advancing to quarterfinals is still possible. Sports fans from United Adaikes have shown that all five nations in Group 2 can still qualify, although Min-Su, Dalimbar and Mediobogdum have a greater chance than Giovanniland and Bobki due to having more points. Further analysis by our Rugby Report shows the possible outcomes of Matchday 5 games and which ones would be favorable for our team:

Match 1 (Dalimbar vs. Giovanniland) Match 2 (Bobki vs. Mediobogdum) Nations Advancing (1st, 2nd)
Dalimbari win (any point difference) Mediobogdumian win (any point difference)  Dalimbar, Mediobogdum
Draw Dalimbar, Min-Su
Bobkian win (any point difference)
Draw Mediobogdumian win (any point difference)  Dalimbar, Mediobogdum
Draw Dalimbar, Min-Su
Bobkian win (any point difference)
Giovannilandian win (18 points or less) Mediobogdumian win (any point difference)  Mediobogdum, Min-Su
Draw Min-Su, Dalimbar
Bobkian win resulting in a PD* equal or smaller than the Dalimbari
Bobkian win resulting in a PD greater than the Dalimbari Min-Su, Bobki
Giovannilandian win (greater than 18 points)  Mediobogdumian win (any point difference)  Mediobogdum, Min-Su
Draw Min-Su, Giovanniland
Bobkian win resulting in a PD equal or smaller than the Giovannilandian
Bobkian win resulting in a PD greater than the Giovannilandian Min-Su, Bobki

* PD = point differential

Note that, despite the Minsun team having a point differential two points greater than the Mediobogdumians, any rugby win requires at least 3 points from a drop goal/penalty kick or 5 from a try. Therefore, a Mediobogdum win will place them above Min-Su regardless of score.

In conclusion, Giovanniland must score a lot of points in the upcoming match against Dalimbar and hope that Mediobogdum does not win its match against Bobki.

Matchday 3 Report - Preview: Hello and welcome to this matchday report by us, the HRJ. We apologize for not sending this out to viewers yesterday, there was a problem at our media studio (Lowfield) when protesters decrying the obviously impure nature of the coach stormed the offices and attempted to hijack the news that the dedicated reporters were in the process of writing. As if everyone didn't know Rago was an evil sod already. Anyway, matchday 3 was against Zoran. Of all the debutant teams, the clansmen seemed to be the best performing, already hitting a lofty 3rd in the rankings. As you can probably tell from the scoreline displayed way above, the Remnants were able to put the clan in their place. The Zoranian refugees, who may or may not have been given a dose of Dilberian 'essential oils', meanwhile were dealt with swiftly and accordingly by the Hertfordian mafia. They were expecting the famous Zoranian judo team to turn up and knock out the referee and a few of our players, but they never turned up. Probably out drinking somewhere. The mafia (Ḿafie) refused to let their long trip to Dilber go to waste, so they 'subtly' threatened the refugees on the sidelines. By pointing their guns at them and shooting a few times in a 'Get Off My Lawn' way. Don't worry, thankfully there were no casualties. It wasn't worth it to the mafia and the HRJ would be in real deep waters with human rights activists. Wanna know why the HRJ is so associated with the mafia? Well, Peter Cipriani is a high ranking member if the Ļaien Crime Family, one of Hertfordshire & Jammbo's most powerful mafia organisations.

Matchday 3 Report - First Half: After that fiasco involving the mafia, refugees and judo was over, the match officially commenced. It didn't take long at all for the HRJ to go into the lead, their experience with taking early leads shining through against a Zoran team who might have been counting on the refugees or judo team to help them today. It was Britannia Degre who scored the try in the 5th minute, and a conversion did not happen. To be honest, the one area where we are relatively weak is conversions. Fast forward 10 minutes and it became clear to the HRJ why their aggressive play brings risks. 15 minutes gone and Zoran had brought the score back to 3-5 through a penalty. They then started to get a good foothold in the game, and the early dominance of the HRJ was little by little scraped away. A nicely even match was played out, all for the span of ~4 minutes. Kaguya Birziņa decided to make things worse for the Remnants by getting herself sent off. Our guess is that she attempted to create a false moon or something. Down to 14 players and down 6-5. It wasn't looking good. Literally 2 minutes after that debacle, Zoran got a try elevating their score to 11. They failed the conversion, allowing us to breathe a sigh of relief. For the rest of the half, the HRJ were pinned in their own half as Zoran attempted to make their numerical advantage count for something, yet were unable to. First half over, NACZ 11-5 HRJ, clearly Faust had to make a rant.

Matchday 3 Report - Second Half: Remember when we said that we are experienced with early leads? Want to see that again? Well you can and you did, when Shang Rozitis angrily hurled the ball into the try zone before letting Bello take care of the conversion. Yes, we scored a conversion. More importantly the manager's rant appeared to have had an effect, because just 7 minutes into the 2nd half and we were back in the lead although we still weren't going to have it easy. That point was proved at the 53 minute mark by Satori who was inexplicably sent off for... reasons. Prime Minister Clarkov Furutani Jammbonevych called it a bunch of balls. Without our resident mind reader, we could no longer anticipate the opponents tactics and moves, making the job of holding on to the narrowest of advantages that much harder. But recall back to the previous TWP Rugby World Cup final where we were in a similarly treacherous position. The hero of that match Peter turned up in a surprisingly sharp yet stylish business-like suit and threatened the Zoranian defenders with unpleasant consequences unless they allowed him through. He succeeded, thereby scoring a try and making our lead a bit less nerve-wracking. Did we forget to mention that Zoran scored a third penalty raising their score to 14-5 before this? Yes? Well we have now. The second half from then on devolved into a strange occurrence, due to the now 13-player HRJ managing to somewhat outplay the 15-player Zoran. We couldn't resist a late jab to the clansmen, in the 75th minute 5 minutes from time, Ongo made up for his stupid yellow card in the previous match by sealing victory and a second win in the group stages. Fellow previous-match-yellow-card receiver Isaac laid the cherry on top of an overall satisfying second half performance. Full time could not come soon enough for the opposite camp, whose manager had to watch his team squander a lead against an opponent with 2 red cards dished out to them. Even if that opponent was the reigning champion. Match review over, a hard fought win for the Remnants.

Next Time: Due to the late time at which this was posted, we must get on with the review of another match that occurred during the aforementioned disruption, that of our convincing win against Reçueçn. Despite potential for an aggrieved match thanks to Hertfordian protesters at the 1st tournament, there were no major scraps or much tension at all. Glad we still have an overall quality relationship with the north-central Polaris outfit. The next match at time of publishing is against Badgeria, a nation more interested in ultimate frisbee than rugby. Expect it to be a cake walk, if we don't get hungover from already winning the group per United Adaikes above-par analysis of the groups. Zoran will leave wondering if their judo team actually turns up in the future. They have played all their matches, having defeated Teralyon in between the NACZ/HRJ match and now. They now await who their opponent in the quarter final will be, like us. Who will the HRJ battle once the group stages end? The candidates are Fujai, Saint Mark and United Adaikes. Goodbye, we're off to report again. We really need a vacation once this is over, a trip to western Andolia sounds nice.

Sharks lose to the Royal Lions, still qualifies to the quarterfinals!

Saint Mark's slight change in their defense strategy stunned the United Adaikes National Rugby Team who was planning to have a scoring barrage in the first half. Many opportunities for both teams were nearly exploited, with the onlooking fans going wild whenever they get closer to their respective goal lines but the first half ended as a draw. Upon the start of the second half, a drop goal from the Sharks after a scrum 3 meters from their 22 meter line raised their side's spirits. They continued to show elements of surprise as they scored another drop goal in the middle of their rush in the 71st minute. However, the Sharks were left stunned when they gave Saint Markan Royal Rugby Team a chance to score a try with the Lions getting a successful conversion in the 77th minute.

On the other game of the group for the day, Fhaengshia upsets Fujai 7-0. With that, Fujai and United Adaikes secured their position of 1st and 2nd, respectively, and qualifies for the quarterfinals. However, a huge challenge for the United Adaikes side as they will be meeting the defending champions of the previous (and inaugural) World Cup.

Later in the day, Group D's top 2 teams' coaches and staff were seen in a private engagement hours after the end of the group stage matchups having warm and friendly discussions with Group B's Dalimbar's coaches and staff. Taken out of their discussion is support within the teams in their knock-out games, and hopefully multi-national agreements, not only in Rugby Union, but in all sports disciplines in preparation of more international sports tournaments in The West Pacific.

DU-UKH, UUK – Keiserholde, Fujai – Hej folks, this is Berit here coming to you from DU-UKH, Den Blå Duken, UiKeiserholde's officially unofficial student radio. The group stage of the 2nd Rugby World Cup has concluded and Fujai is on top of Group D! There's a lot to discuss so let's get right into today's Idrottsminutt!

The Landslag finished out the group stage with 2 wins against Saint Mark and Larxia, a draw against United Adaikes, and now their first and hopefully only loss of the cup against Fhaengshia. The North Andolian side came roaring onto the pitch, knocking the Landslag off their rhythm as they struggled to put up a solid defense and capturing seven points before the end of the first half. In the second half, the Landslag attempted a hybrid offense/defense strategy to keep the Fhaengshians from scoring further. While they failed in the offense part of it, they succeeded in keeping their opponents from scoring further.

As it turns out, that little bit of extra defense was what earned the Landslag the top spot in our group! Had the Adaikesians won their match against Saint Mark, we'd've been in second, but with their loss and ours, we eked out the first place position by a single point differential! A single one!! It's all the better that we did manage that, because otherwise we might've had to go up against reigning champs Hertfordia already, a fate Adaikes now faces. Fans across Fujai are, of course, rooting for the fellow Polarii side now that we're not competing, as no one wants the Hertfordians to win yet another cup. It's high time the high north was represented on top of the podium, some might say.

Now the other story we're following is that of the invaders, Dalimbar. They're gunning for the championship as well after getting shut out last time by Hertfordia. In an absolutely wild turn of events, especially given the increased tensions in Occupied Lannreid the last months, some Fujar are actually rooting for the Dalimbari. I know of at least one friendship that ended after someone said they were rooting for Dalimbar, that shit's no joke up here, y'know. At the least, a Fujai v. Dalimbar championship match would be one for the record books, and who knows, maybe that match would do some diplomacy work?

On that note, that's all we've got for today's Idrottsminutt! I know the rugby fans here at Den Blå Duken are thrilled that the Landslag did so well in the group stage, and we can't wait to see what else they can pull off! This is Berit signing off, see you tomorrow!

HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

4-12-1420. story by Lurienh Geonts.

Dilber. With the Fujansk Landslag coming off from a draw in their toughest match in the tournament so far, the Mountaineers had some R & R at base camp during their bye and took advantage of the civil freedoms in Dilber to prepare for a match where they had nothing to lose. This was as good as it was going to get for the Mountaineers, and with nothing on the line except their pride they put in their all. The incredible defence of the Landslag was always going to ensure a low scoring match, and with only a single converted try and not even a penalty, Fujansk promises were kept.

Only it was the Mountaineers who were able to haul themselves over the summit of the try line. An early score punished punters, as despite the advantages the Mountaineers had, they were still clear underdogs. While it was the Fujansk Landslag that had their third ever loss, it was a day for upsets as favourites and defending champions Hertfordshire and Jammbo suffered their very first defeat.

After finishing the match, the Mountaineers climbed their way across the city in a pub crawl that is sure to see many red eyes on the 7 hour flight back to Fhaendhaw whenever they finish. Once they miss the lazy gulf beaches, and local BD rum, the Mountaineers will face a lukewarm return, as though redeemed in their latest match, there are expectations to improve their performance for future events. For now, the Mountaineers are making friends with the locals and other tourists, while punters punt their predictions, preparing penultimate potentials.

Matchday 4 Report - Preview: Welcome to this overly late report on matchday 4 against the previous Rugby World Cup hosts Reçueçn, who despite the issues regarding embassy protests last time round had a pleasant match with an overall lack of excessive violence. Obviously there was violence, this is a sport where people ram into each other with body armour on. There were two red cards in our previous match which saw Satori replaced with Nagisa and Kaguya replaced with Takumi. As we'll see, this match was stolen by the first-time players. We did say that the report would come yesterday but it took longer than we thought. Quality over quantity, are we right?

Matchday 4 Report - First Half: Match begins, and was immediately slightly tense. Just kidding, it was actually rather nice for a rugby match. The opposition done well to hold the HRJ back but they couldn't hold on forever and debutant Nagisa, who replaced Satori at the very front of the formation, scored the first try of the match. No conversion, did we really need to point that out, because it's pretty obvious that we wouldn't. Roughly an equal amount of time between the first try and second try as was between kick-off and the first try passed when Isaac slotted a second try to make it 10-0 to the Remnants. Guess what didn't happen. We'll let you figure that out for yourselves. We really aren't the best at symmetry but as the times of our scoring show we can get rather close. The half then turned into a dominant display, by the HRJ of course, as Reçueçn were forced into their own half by the HRJ's aggressive attacking style of play. However at the 36th minute spirits were dampened as Isaac, who we believe has scored 2 tries this tournament, found himself badly injured forced to be carried off on a stretcher. Faust, the manager, made no delay in bringing him off and giving Mamoru Petrovskis his first appearance. Still, even with that loss we still had another superb player replacing him on the pitch and our dominance continued right up until half-time, when only the whistle of the referee gave Reçueçn some room to breathe. Half time score, HRJ 10-0 REC, it's nice to be back to commanding ways at half-time intervals.

Matchday 4 Report - Second Half: The second half begins. Fans of the Remnants will know that we are particularly skilled in taking early leads, especially when it comes to the second half. This match flipped the tried and tested formula on it's head, the HRJ fell behind in the early stages to a penalty warranted by a light foul on one of the opposition players, which thankfully did not result in any card. The referee is on point today it would seem. The scoreline above shows that the ex-hosts did not score any more than those solitary 3 points, meaning the outcome of this match is blatantly clear to all who pay even the slightest bit of attention to rugby. But that does not mean we are done shoving important TWPRWC information down your willing throats, not by a long shot. We bet our dedicated readers and followers want to see how the rest of the match went and we guarantee that this review won't disappoint under any circumstances. A load of light rampaging through the disheveled Reçueçn formation was what fate insisted on happening which was a blessed relief to the HRJ considering the fact that the opposition camp could have easily been spurred on by their penalty. At the minute known as 62, that's just over an hour of play, Keiki managed to make a long-awaited impact by stretching the HRJ's lead to 12 points. She's a sculptor god, so the creation of a try out of absolutely bloody nowhere was bound to occur. Her sculpting arts made miracles yet again immediately afterwards, lo and behold! An actual conversion, that was actually scored. It's probably quite annoying to see this review emphasising the word 'actually' like it was some sort of addictive prescription drug, to which we say that not only did the HRJ score a conversion, it was scored by another debutant, tofu delivery driver and touge racer Takumi Mihailov. Surely you all remember him from his silver medal at the TWP Olympics. His incredible skills have been honed for touge racing despite the obvious lack of mountainous terrain let alone mountains in Hertfordshire and Jammbo. 5 minutes after that and Jeremy had the brilliant idea of trying to ram through the entire Reçueçn team on his lonesome. Sometimes if you listen closely you can actually hear his genius. Armed with tried and tested philosophy of 'Speed and Power!' he plowed through as many players as he could which if executed correctly would have meant a clear run to the try zone for the Remnants. Nope, midway through he was injured by an opposition player. Scratch that, he injured himself because he's a pillock. On the bench Hammond and May were, as ever, right there for him. Cue Hammond and May laughing hysterically at Clarkson's failure. He was brought off for Mina Klebitz. Comedy gold was produced by the HRJ, add that to the list of things we do well. The remainder of the match, 12 minutes to be precise, was pretty lackluster with more effort devoted to laughing at Jeremy than to the actual match. Not that it mattered, as the Remnants had recorded a convincing 17-3 victory against the former Rugby World Cup hosts. Full-time merely confirmed this.

Next Time: The next report will be on matchday 5 and its game against Big Bad Badger. We will not reveal the outcome of that match, partially because we want to keep it a secret so reading our reviews won't seem utterly pointless, and partially because we kind of don't want to reveal the result. We guess you can see where this is going. Either way, presently the HRJ have finished the group in 1st place and move on to the quarter finals. You know that nation that put together that group outcome analysis we praised in an earlier review? Well, we are taking them on next. They're a debutant nation, 1 of 4 representing Polaris, a continent which quite frankly has dominated overall sporting for long enough. United Adaikes is next, we await the match eagerly. The opponents, Reçueçn, finished the group in 4th spot following their loss to the HRJ and an easy victory over Teralyon, whose showing this tournament has just been a complete disaster. Now come on Remnants, you are the last of Andolia's representatives. Bring it home for nation and continent! In other news, Takumi's father Bunta is wondering how his AE86 has been turned into an AE85. What do we think, ladies & gentleman?

Disclaimer: We are definitely not going to make our reports any more flashy or broad. Yes, we were actually asked to do that. Have you people ever heard of understatement? Come on, this is the HRJ writing the reports, we thought this was sorted earlier.

Matchday 5 Report - Preview: Hello and welcome to the final matchday review of the group stages. This report will cover our match with Big Bad Badger, a nation who we thought since they were more into ultimate frisbee than rugby, and because we already defeated them in the previous tournament, that it would be a cake walk. Fate would tell otherwise in a very close battle that ultimately ended with the Remnants suffering not just their first loss of the 2nd TWP Rugby World Cup, but their absolute first loss. Ever. The HRJ took a massive hit in the rankings, dropping below Doll Guldur's last remaining representative Libterraria. Mind you, that didn't really affect us that match, factoring in the truth that it was the knockout stages of the inaugural World Cup where we really put ourselves on the sporting map. Besides, it was bound to happen eventually, no team can stay unbeaten forever. The HRJ managed to go on a 9 match winning streak before Badger finally halted that today. Oh, are we getting a bit carried away? Sorry, let's get on with the match review. We would like to point out that through injury, Isaac and Jeremy have been replaced in the starting 15 by Mamoru and Mina.

Matchday 5 Report - First Half: Time for the match to commence and as the rankings produced by Dalimbar would suggest, the HRJ quickly took the initiative and control of the match was in the palm of their hands, just as Faust and Rago had planned. While there was no immediate try, it was inevitable at this rate that we would draw first blood and we did, veteran star Ongo Vidopliassova lumping in a try in the 19th minute. That was certainly reward for running the Badgerians ragged like we did. But then, something very strange happened. Instead of being forced under more pressure, Big Bad Badger decided to treat their next attack as if it were their last of the tournament. This bamboozled the HRJ lines, who collapsed out of formation in shock at this unprecedented high risk move. It paid off for the Badgerians who were able to sneak in a narrow try despite the best efforts of our defence. Faust was fuming, partially at the team for allowing the opponent to level up the score but mostly at Badgeria for actually being able to pull that off. It seemed everyone on the HRJ camp had underestimated their adversaries, but no more! There would be no dawdling from this point on, and the HRJ turned up the performance, quickly reminding the Badgerians who they were trifling with. It was late in the first half, 34 minutes gone, when under immense pressure a Badgerian player committed a foul against one of our own. Mina took the penalty, and scored, putting us back into the lead. What was clearly etched into the minds of the manager and coach though was that Big Bad Badger were putting up far more of a fight than anyone could have anticipated. They had nothing left to fight for, except maybe the 3rd spot in our group and what good is that when only the top 2 can make it to the quarter finals? It was a baffling scenario. Faust and Rago knew they had to think of some new tactics and fast. Half-time arrived, Hertfordia leads 5-8.

Matchday 5 Report - Second Half: Just like in our match against Zoran, we fell behind in the early stages of the second half to a second Badgerian try. This came as a lesser shock to the Remnants, but as a colossal shock, dare we say a wake up call to the fans of the HRJ. They were so used to seeing the Remnants take early leads in the second half. Seemingly a few other teams had caught on to this trademark of ours. If they have, then that removes a significant avenue for scoring. Not only did Badgeria do that to us, they were now in the lead. But if we had learnt anything from the Zoran game, it's that a comeback should always be considered as on the cards. With the team rejuvenated from that fresh thought, they charged hard at the Badgerian defence to take back the match and skewer them just as we had done before. Solemnly we have to tell you that this time it was different. The team seemed to have been badly affected by the events of this game and even the manager's words of wisdom were null and void against the feeling of doubt setting in that maybe the HRJ were being caught up to by everyone. For some players this was dreaded, they had been dominant for so long now. For others though some new competition sounded just like what the doctor ordered. Matches could be even more exciting than they already were. Please just let us find a silver lining, we can't be all doom and gloom. Nearly halfway through the second half and things couldn't possibly get worse, and then they were, because it was time for Big Bad Badger to score their third try of the match. This time through actual talented manoeuvres, not errors by us. Well done to them. Now we really were in trouble, 7 points down with 22 minutes left. We've had worse situations. Try as they might the HRJ simply couldn't break down the Badgerian defences. Most likely explanation is that this almost inconceivable situation had filled them with the confidence and then some to square up to the certified best rugby team in The West Pacific, to finally drag the south-ish east Andolia outfit down a peg. Just 6 minutes from the final whistle, Bello decided to ease nerves by pummeling in a try of his own, bringing our score up to 13. Still 2 points behind our opposition. The reason we have not mentioned conversions until now is because they haven't been happening. This was a match where conversions would have been a godsend. Our failure to score any of the two conversions was the difference between a 10th straight victory and the harsh reality of defeat. The referee's whistle signaled the coming of the harsh reality. The Remnants had lost to Big Bad Badger in an excruciatingly close battle, end result of which was defeat by comeback. Good job Badgerians, you have earned this commendation from us. We are still hurting though. Considering how oddly similar the three scorers for us were, no wonder people are calling this match 'Jammbo's Cliff Edge'.

Next Time: Now that we are back on schedule at long last, we have no need to mention that we won the group and will face United Adaikes in the quarter finals. They will have the 'home advantage' as described in the Dalimbari built and run ranking service. We sit in the number 2 spot having dropped from the top position, meanwhile the Sharks are 10th having fallen from 6th. Big Bad Badger finish in 3rd in Group C. Despite them being knocked out, they can return to a satisfied crowd back at their home in north-western Polaris with the added smugness of being the first team to ever defeat the HRJ. Good on them. Now, time to prepare for our next match, something ongoing long before this was posted. Goodbye readers, see you all again in tomorrows news report.

Match Report - Dalimbar (52.11) vs. Giovanniland (52.27)

Although a loss is a loss, it was not a heartbreak. The Dalimbari made sure they disrupted the long planning of their opponents from Giovanniland to score enough tries to advance to the Quarterfinals. This was particularly sweet for Dalimbar as the last time they met, Giovanniland "stole" the bronze medal from Dalimbar in the first tournament.

Compared to their other matches, it was clear that the Dalimbari were slower today. The plan issued by Colonel Nursan was to hold off Giovanniland from scoring too many tries and to not overwork his side lest they falter in the real competition of the tournament, the knock-out rounds.

Chain of command up to Marshal Markus Briand were aware of this, informed ahead of time that a small defeat is acceptable if the Dalimbari still made it to the Quarterfinals. The Marshal gave his support, speaking with Col. Nursan by phone late at night as they discussed tactics and strategies going forward. The key question both men asked one another is how to tackle the beasts of Hertfordshire & Jammbo and Fujai if the Dalimbari have to face those teams. "Explosive response" was the general idea put forward by the Marshal.

But back to today's match, two penalties in each half allowed Dalimbar to acquire 6 points compared to Giovanniland's 10. A victory in defeat.

Giovannilandian Rugby Report - The Not So Grand Finale

Welcome to the fourth and last match review of our Rugby Report in this World Cup. Yeah, unfortunately the Giovannilandiana Equipa did not qualify to the Quarterfinals even with a win against Dalimbar.

Giovannilandiana Equipa 10-6 Dalimbar Union da Rugby (Halftime: 10-3)

Tries: Rio Schmidt (7'), Gustavo Borges (23')

First Half: It was now or never. Giovanniland had to manage a hard feat of scoring at least 19 more points than Dalimbar. The first thirty minutes proved to be good for our team: two tries were scored, giving Giovannilandian sports fans some hope. Near the end of the first half the Dalimbari did score 3 points from a penalty, but there was still a chance to win a Quarterfinals spot.

Second Half: In the second half, the Dalimbari changed their strategy to an even more defensive one; both to save efforts for the upcoming Quarterfinals game and to prevent our team from scoring. Unfortunately, this proved to be effective as no more points were scored by Giovanniland. Instead, the Dalimbari got three more points from another penalty in the final minutes.

Post-Match: Giovanniland had been eliminated from the tournament, and most players came back home. Nevertheless, the people are cheering for our team. They fought hard—and they even managed a second win against Dalimbar, albeit being unable to prevent the Dalimbari from advancing.

Several Giovannilandians then rooted for the two Auran teams in the knock-out stage: Zoran and Min-Su. However, the Minsun were eliminated in the quarterfinals and as such, only the Zoranian team remains from all Auran nations that entered. The general Giovannilandian opinion for the semifinals seems to be a strong support for Zoran on one side, and for United Adaikes on the other—the latter team will meet the Dalimbari next. Stay tuned for further news tomorrow!

Sharks dethrone the reigning champs, onward to the semi-finals!

Hertfordshire and Jammbo was the first to score with a drop goal just 7 minutes into the game. But their expectations did not go their way as the United Adaikes National Rugby Team stepped up their defense the whole game. United Adaikes scored in the 17th minute with a try and a successful conversion, and another try in the far-left goal line in the 37th minute which caused them not to get that conversion before the first half ended.

When the second half started, a scoring exchange happened between the two teams. H & J blitzed with tries in the 52nd and 59th minutes to take the lead again, 13-12, even without getting the conversion for the 2 tries. The Sharks tried to get back by scoring a drop goal in the 60th minute to take the lead again, 13-15. A drop goal from the defending champs in the 63rd minute nearly spelled doom for the Polarii side, but the Sharks responded with a surprising try no one expected 6 minutes later, getting a successful conversation to regain the lead. A couple of missed drop goals from H & J had the Adaikesian fans roared and cheered harder. Numerous opportunities were nearly exploited by H & J, but that's just it for them as the United Adaikes just couldn't believe that they've bested the ones who took the trophy home in the previous World Cup!

In the post-match press conference, coach Gallardo shared, "We were looking at their tapes, even from the games in the previous tournament. There were even small chatter that even their side accept it that they are bad in conversions. We were putting it as a third (and nearly disregarded) reminder for the team, but when we saw it with our eyes what happened in the second half, we made sure that the next tries we could muster against them should also have successful conversions. We just did one, but we'll take it." Sharks captain Miguel Gonzales added, "There was a pattern in their games that they are scoring much in the start of the second half, so the mindset going in to the game is that whenever they get a try, we respond with our own. But, if we can find a small loophole against their defense, let's take it and see what we can get from there. It showed there in our first half."

On taking on Dalimbar in the semis, and the press bringing out if there was a topic last night in their meeting that they might meet, what would they say to each other, coach Gallardo replied, "Well, they promised to crush us if we will meet in the semis. (laughs) I said, let's talk about it when we get there. Well, here we are. However, we came prepared playing for this games. Games everyday meant that we can't practice, so we'll just rest our tired bodies and legs after the games. As long as we can view the tapes of our opponents in the next game, analyze and strategize before we get to bed, putting into our minds what we need to do the whole day, then hopefully we can get the result we wanted. Personally, we've got as far as we haven't imagined, and as three teams are from Polaris, we'll have no problems with a Polarii champion. But of course, in this stage, we're hungry to get to the finals and hopefully bring the trophy home."

On an interesting note, all the other top teams in the group stage were eliminated by their opponents. Aside from Dalimbar, all the semi-finalists have just debuted in the international rugby union scene and has been upsetting their opponents. One thing's for sure, a new champion will be crowned.

HT: Hertfordshire and Jammbo 3-12 United Adaikes
FT: Hertfordshire and Jammbo 16-22 United Adaikes

Match Report - Dalimbar (50.74) vs Libterraria (56.74)

Nothing is permanent. Nothing is absolutely for certain. We may believe in one tactic only for it to fail. For a victory, we must see the whole board.

The conquest of Libterraria was swift and complete. 27-0. This was a team which earned the respect of Dalimbar for their skill and drive. They did not make it easy for the boys in blue to score. However, they were a pure defensive line with no opportunity for a dash down the field.

What made the crowd cheer the loudest was seeing the two juggernauts of rugby, H&J and Fujai, go down. Notably the eastern frontier regions of Dalimbar hold populations favourable to Fujai, so seeing that nation be ousted was a pleasant surprise for the Stavka.

"Hello Zoran! Quiyakaso here refreshed and ready for anything today! It has been a few days since I was on air but that was because I wanted to stay in my cheap hotel bed and cry for a while! Anyways these past few days have been a wild one! Last night our team beat the very skilled Fujansk team in the quarterfinal by three points! At the very beginning of the game, the Zoranian Olympic judo team ran onto the field and knocked out the referee and the two assistant referees! However, despite these actions, the Fujansk were able to get an early lead on our team and close to the middle of the game the Zoranian team were losing hope. But then the Zoranian refugees began holding onto the legs of the Fujanks players, begging them for alms. This prevented the Fujansk team from scoring or well moving much, allowing out team to catch up and win the game in the last few seconds of the game! Our team will be going up against the Kurabi rugby team tonight folks! All of Aura is cheering for us! Well probably with the exception of Dilber who is claiming their team won! Regardless, let's bring home the gold!"

Right as Quiyakaso thought he had a successful broadcast at full energy without interruption, a swarm of Dilberian seagulls that have been injected with a variety of drugs by BetterBy Pharma start attacking him and on the screen you see Quiyakaso yelling and running through the streets of Dilber City trying in vain to escape the seagulls!

"BY THE SPIRIT! WHY! WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE A SEAGULL ATTACK!" screams Quiyakaso before the NACZ logo appears.

Dalimbar held only to goal kicks, Sharks fail to enter championship..

When two defensive teams go at each other, we'll surely have a tight and low score line. This was proven by the United Adaikes National Rugby Team as they held the Dalimbari to scoring drop goals only. The first half sent shivers to everyone with both teams not letting the other get past their 22-meter line in the first half with the ball possession getting back and forth the field with the game full of scrums, interceptions, and short runs. The first half ended with both teams tied nil-all.

In the resumption of the game, Dalimbar scored a drop goal in the 43rd minute. The Sharks saw a glimpse of hope when they scored a try in the 52nd minute, but failed to get the conversion. That hurt them so much, as the Dalimbari scored another drop goal in the 67th minute, and a penalty goal kick in the 74th minute after a harsh high tackle from a Sharks player to a blitzing Dalimbari. Captain Miguel Gonzales apologized to the tackled player and to the Dalimbari head coach, and apologized again during the post-match conference as the game ended in favor of Dalimbar.

Coach Gallardo said, "Well, just like what we have said yesterday, we've gone far as we haven't imagined. We're grateful for the experience, and we'll surely be returning for the next tournament. As for tomorrow, we'll still plan for it as business-as-usual, but we'll leave it to the players if they want to get the 3rd place. That's how we let them played today, and we're proud of them to just let the Dalimbari kick some points, but we'll have to do more if we want to be at the podium tomorrow."

Match Report - Dalimbar (54.64) vs United Adaikes (53.96)

Daaaaaaliiiiiiiimbaaarrrrr

Marshal Markus Briand was in the top box in Garrison Stadium, watching down at the impressive play from the Dalimbari squad. Although the match was in Dilber, the entire pitch of the stadium in Saint Andreisburg was turned into a television, broadcasting for the 30,000 joyous Dalimbari supporters in their temple of the sport. Outside the stadium there were multiple screens playing the match, as rugby has become an important facet of society.

 Daaaaaaliiiiiiiimbaaarrrrr

A thunder-clap erupted from the audience in both Dilber and Dalimbar. When the boys in blue entered the scrum, the thunder-clap erupted again. And again. Getting slightly faster each time from the crowd. Pushing the Dalimbari further and further down the field.

 Daaaaaaliiiiiiiimbaaarrrrr

The tie in the first half built the tension further. Going into the second half the team huddled and figured any goal was a good goal at this point. The UA team was a hefty team to push through, and if penalties were the way to go, fine. The UA squad were a respectable force, holding their line like a brick wall.

 Daaaaaaliiiiiiiimbaaarrrrr

A final victory of 9-5 cemented Dalimbar's place in rugby history. The boys in blue came fourth in the first tournament, and now are either going to be first or second. And for the Dalimbari, gold is the only option.
