Should the forums have a summarizer?

Threads on this forum are sometimes populated quickly with posts, and large posts at times.  Not everyone is on the forums visits the forums (or at least I assume so) often, or at least don't spend a good amount of time on the forums.  When someone who spends a small amount of time enters a thread populated with sizable posts, it can be quite obnoxious reading through it all.  So, I suggest we have some people going around summarizing larger threads that are still active and/or relevant.  I'm not saying that this should be a task assigned to a few people, but rather anyone just summarizes what's going on in the thread so that everyone that participates in the thread is on the same track.  This can be done by people posting in the thread, a spectator, or just anyone else.

I would consider any thread long if there are more than 30 posts.

And yes, the board is fairly inactive.  I guess that I meant fast relative to that.  However, the overall forum speed is picking up.  It would be nice to have summaries for the newer people, and to get prepared for if this forum actually becomes really active (if there's more people on the forums, it will be harder/more time consuming for individuals to get caught up.

And on an uncalled for side note, I would summarize every page or so, or fewer than that if the comments are lengthy (EX: posts are usually longer than a paragraph).

Yea, I'd thought about that problem.  I guess that the best thing to do is to just state that the post is the current thread summary, and other people that are posting in the thread just ignore it.

With TWPs tradition of threadjacking, it's going to be difficult to summarize any thread as they tend to wander all over the map.

I completely forgot about that issue.  It might be the Achilles' heel to summarizing.  However, maybe people only summarize the important stuff?
