UNDER VOTE: Equilism Treaty Renewal

Recommended Posts

Greetings from the Foreign Affairs office! TWP's treaty with Equilism will lapse on June the 6th. Thus it is time for renewal.

Renewal requires the approval of the delegate and a vote from our legislative body.

Medio has already approved the renewal.

You certainly have my approval to proceed with ratification with the minor amendment to remove the annual review/renewal clause as previously outlined by Equilism.

The amendment he mentions is the removal of the last clause of the treaty, which reads:

  • This Treaty will remain in effect for a period of one year. At the conclusion of this period, the signatories may approve an extension, renegotiate the terms of the treaty, or allow it to lapse.

The removal of this clause has been agreed to by both parties.

Thus, here is the text of the treaty up for renewal:

The West Pacific-Equilism Treaty

The West Pacific and Equilism hereby enter into a mutually beneficial Treaty of Friendship, Goodwill, Cultural Exchange, Respect, Security and Military Cooperation. The signatory regions seek to encourage inter-regional cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. Both regions remain sovereign, as do each region's nations.

  • This Treaty is an exclusive agreement between The West Pacific and Equilism and does not affect any current and/or future alliances or treaties. This Treaty is not subject to the approval or disapproval of any other parties.
  • Each region will maintain an Embassy in the region of the other to further communication between the signatories. Embassies and Ambassadors will respect the laws of foreign soil.
  • The members of each region are invited to participate in the cultural events of the other. The signatories are also encouraged to hold inter-regional cultural events. Such events may be opened to participation by non-signatories.
  • The signatories are encouraged to share information of vital need to each other. All care shall be taken to preserve the integrity of information sources. Such exchanges will be limited to the signatories only, and not to any third party. Information sharing may only be initiated by the TWP Delegate, The Equilism Founder, or their designated regional representatives.
  • The signatories commit themselves to the principle of mutual defense and military cooperation. The military of each signatory is encouraged to work with the other whenever possible. Co-operative military training programs and exercises are encouraged, and may be proposed by either party. Each signatory recognizes the right of the other to refrain from participation in actions that would violate their sovereignty.
  • Should a misunderstanding arise at any time as to the interpretation of this document the matter shall be resolved between the appropriate officials of each region. Appropriate officials shall be understood to be The TWP Delegate, the Equilism Founder and/or their officially designated representatives.
  • While respecting the right to recruit nations under NationStates rules and understanding the necessities for growth and renewal of regions, neither TWP nor Equilism will deliberately engage in mass untargeted recruitment from the other, nor from one another’s protectorates which have been established by each region and communicated to the other signatory.[/background]
  • “Mass Recruitment” is defined as the sending of untargeted telegrams on the NationStates site to encourage nations to move regions. This shall not be interpreted to prohibit recruitment, or specific recruitment methods, but rather to respect long-term resident nations and regional policies.[/background]
  • Sending telegrams to "New" nations will not be considered untargeted recruitment for the purposes of this section.
  • Each region confirms that they will not engage in the subversion of the legally recognized government of each respective region.
  • Each region reserves the right to refuse to assist in the other region's endeavors.
  • Each region reserves the right to cancel this Treaty by public announcement and official notification.

Please vote YES or NO. This vote will close five days from now, (Monday, July 6th) at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. (I won't be here to close the vote, so I have asked Hariko to do so for me.)

I see no benefit in this article for TWP

This vote was supposed to closed yesterday. Final results of votes emited within the 5 days period. However, Drachmaland (voted yes) voted before applying for membership in The Voice and Zazula is not a member of the voice. Hence:

YES: 13

NO: 1

BBD's vote is the only one out of the period, and it does not changes the result.

Hence the renewal is approved.
