    1423 Giovannilandian Chess Championship Concludes!

Sonserina, Giovanniland — The 1423 Giovannilandian Chess Championship came to an end this Tuesday, 26th December 1423, with multiple-time former champion Raffella Quadrigaro returning to the position of champion after almost a decade. The competition started in the first day of the month and featured forty participants from different regions of Giovanniland, playing in a group stage where the top two from each group advanced to the knockout stage and then decided the winner. The event was visited by notable political figures, including Prime Minister Elisa Anario-Silva and His Majesty King Giovanni VI, as well as His Serene Highness Prince Marcarius of Saint Mark. It happened in Sonserina, a city of 103,715 inhabitants, considered the national capital of chess.
Every year, regional competitions determine the participants of each championship. Places are allocated to each region in proportion to their population, and these competitions are often a place for rising stars in national chess to be known for a wider audience, while established players usually are the first to confirm their qualification. The following image shows the names of all participants for this edition and their titles, with GM standing for Grandmaster, IM standing for International Master, and CM standing for Candidate Master. All of them were ranked and divided into five pots by ELO rating and then randomly sorted into one of the eight groups, which will be described afterwards.

Group A was led by defending champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, winner of the 1421 and 1422 chess championships. It also had three other participants that were last present in 1421, namely Giuliana, Gioseppa and Vanessa, as well as Augusto whose most recent entry into the national championship was five years ago. In a surprising twist, Guillermo did not finish in first place because both him and Giuliana had the same amount of points, but in the head-to-head record he had lost to her. The two ended with three points each, from three wins and one loss, while Gioseppa was close but did not make it—she won against the eventual group leader but drew against lower rated opponents.
Group B's highest rated player was Giovanni Amdo-Gyatso, notable for being the champion in 1411 and runner-up in 1422, and he indeed finished first far ahead of the others, with three wins and one draw for three and a half points. Aside from returning participants Kyro, Aurelio, and Daniella there was also Massimiano who entered the national tournament for the first time. The surprise of this group was Daniella, who returned after three years and qualified in second place to the dismay of Kyro. Both achieved two points, but as Daniella had more wins, she qualified for the knockout stage for her first time.
Group C saw the participation of perennial participants Karlo and Gepelle, who rarely fail to qualify; returning players Gallio and Gratia; and another new arrival to the tournament, Tserina. Karlo—notable for winning three consecutive championships from 1408 to 1410—led the group with the same results as Giovanni did in Group B, however competition was more fierce, as the second place Gepelle was only half a point behind. The international master has a history of creating some upsets, for example in 1421 when she defeated then-defending champion Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone and caused her to miss the knockout stage; in fact she might be promoted to Grandmaster in the near future. This time, she defeated the slightly higher rated Gallio who then lost the second place to her.
In the Group D, the 1420 champion Lavinia improved her chess record by topping the group after failing to qualify to the knockout stage twice in a row in the last two editions. She got 3.5 points and only failed to win against Amanda Gilvano de Valle, who also ended with the same amount of points, thus their draw meant that Lavinia finished in first for her higher rating. Amanda continues to enjoy success after her surprising run to fourth place in 1421 despite not having any chess title at that time, followed by a fast rise in the national rankings. New participant Angelo did not get any points, however the bigger disappointment of the group was the grandmaster Gianna, only earning a single point and finishing in fourth, behind international master Margerito.

It was Vittore Nyima-Lyamo, who recently earned the Grandmaster title and notably got the bronze medal in the previous edition. He even overcame Sergio Amorante-Aquilano, a regular participant of this tournament and champion in two separate occasions, 1411 and 1418. Eventual third place in the group Tommaso did not get the chance to see the knockout stage again after his quarterfinal appearance two years ago, while the two other participants Eustakia and Madalena enjoyed returning to the tournament after three and four years respectively, despite not getting a good performance.
Group F was a group where all participants had been in at least one of the two last editions. The two Grandmasters of the group, Severo and Oralino, had little difference in their ratings, and in fact drew the match between the two, however the former did qualify while the latter did not. It was the candidate master Isidoro who achieved second place instead, in his fifth appearance here, after an also interesting run as far as the quarterfinals last year. The overall group was competitive, all players without exception being exactly half a point in distance between each other, from the first place Severo to the last place Markella.
As for Group G, it was the only group to have three Grandmasters, since a total of seventeen players with this title qualified to the competition. The 1419 champion and strong contender for his second title Gustavo Takeda led the group as expected, however he did not win all the matches as he managed to do in the previous two years. Instead, he won three of his matches and drew the other one, against fellow grandmaster Tsutrina Palbario. She was able to join the tournament again after a two years-long absence and performed strongly, taking the second place in the group. The other three players in the group—Antonio, Otto and Serena—all have played in the national tournament before, however they could not achieve a good result this time.
Finally, Group H was the other group where a player got the most points possible, four, after winning all matches. Unexpectedly it was not the top rated player of the group, multiple-time former champion Raffella Quadrigaro, but rather Lavanda Rosetta-Lyra. Lavanda finished in fourth place in the last tournament, her best finish so far ever since her first participation seven years ago. Meanwhile, Raffella qualified for the knockout stage in second place, fighting until the end with Giulio Punso-Lodago for the position, but it was an improvement over the previous year where she stayed out of that stage entirely. This was also a group where all participants have played in one of the two last editions, including the other two players Augustino and Vittore.

The results of the knockout stage.
After the group stage, twelve Grandmasters qualified for the knockout stage, as well as three International Masters and one Candidate Master. In the upper part of the bracket, Raffella Quadrigaro made up for her not very good group stage performance with a streak of confident wins, denying players such as Giovanni Amdo-Gyatso and Lavinia Pasquale-Arbone a chance of getting another championship. The latter went as far as the semifinals, defeating multiple-time champion Karlo Neurine-Sousa throughout her way, and thus proceeded to play the third place match. Meanwhile, other players did not get past the round of 16, for example Sergio and Isidoro, two of the quarterfinalists in the previous championship, and Tsutrina who reached this stage for the first time.
The lower part of the bracket had matches just as interesting as the upper part. Vittore Nyima-Lyamo was the finalist from here, firstly defeating the two best international masters of the tournament, Amanda and Gepelle—the latter was the only one to go past the round 16, after she won against Oralino. Then, a very awaited and exciting match came into being, with Vittore facing Gustavo Takeda in a repeat of last year's quarterfinals! Gustavo came to this match with high morale after knocking out the defending champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino out of the tournament, but it unfortunately wasn't enough in the tiebreaker matches, and he fell a second time to Vittore.
Last but not least, the final and third place match happened in December 25th and 26th which is the same time as the Lavender Festival started, a very important week-long celebration in Giovanniland, thus adding to the great expectations for these last two matches. The bronze match was fittingly between 1419 champion Gustavo and 1420 champion Lavinia, in a very close dispute that the former won after tiebreaks. As for the great final, multiple-time champion Raffella faced the rising star Vittore, and convincingly won the game to add one more title to his collection, although Vittore also played very well. Raffella has played professional chess for over three decades now, winning the national championships of 1400, 1405, 1407, 1413, 1414 and now 1423. Celebrations then ensued, as the medals were awarded to the top three and the final rankings were announced.

PUBLIC OUTCRY AS CONANIAN OLYMPICS DELEGATION REVEALED
The Conanian Sporting Association has been receiving significant backlash from activists across the nation following the reveal of the delegation that will represent Conania at the 18th Winter Olympics. The selection was unveiled earlier this week, and sparked outrage across social media. Activists are taking issue with the complete absence of female athletes in the team, with the choice to only select male athletes deemed as "archaic."
Conanian women have become far more vocal about their rights in recent years. Since the dust has settled on the nation's politics, groups of feminists across the country have launched their fight in the name of gender equality. It is well known that our nation has always been a firmly patriarchal society, with women historically being viewed as lesser than their husbands, brothers and sons. But now in this new age of internet and connectivity, the situation is beginning to shift. Viewing women in other countries across the continent and beyond being able to live free has inspired a feminist movement in the younger generation, a trend that started in the major cities but is now spreading outwards to the more rural areas. Fortunata Iacono, a well-known figure in the feminist movement, said on Cheepr, "We see women and girls in other countries who are able to get an education, vote and do things as simple as go to the shops without being dogpiled by men telling them their place. Why can't that be a reality in our country."
While the athletes prepare to fly to Liventia to begin their training, a storm is brewing on Conania's streets. With the nation sharing the sporting spotlight for the first time, the issue of women's rights has never been greater. We are seeing daily protests take place outside government buildings, thousands of women turning out to demand an equal standing in society. It's now up to the government to make the call on whether Conania will take that step towards equality.

    ARIFIYYAH'S POLITICAL PROCESS

We bring a special segment today to explain to the world the unique and complex political pattern in Arifiyyah.
Arifiyyah practices a monarchy with semi-absolute power and a constitution that can be amended. The Sultan's Guide is the highest constitution that has been enacted by Sultan Arifyyah II and can be enacted with the consent of the Sultan himself and the people's memorandum. Among the Sultan's absolute powers include foreign affairs, religious affairs, taxation, local government powers, and the military.
Tun Bendahara is the fourth most powerful individual in the national government hierarchy after the Sultan, the Sultan's consort, and the Crown Prince. Tun Bendahara acts as a royal advisor and also has some authority over the executive body called the National Administrative Council, which is formed from the majority of the parliament. This position is appointed from the majority coalition in parliament and will take oath Infront of Sultan. The Tun Bendahara and the executive body are empowered in a number of matters including domestic affairs, international trade, national budget matters and other matters enshrined in the national constitution.
Arifiyyah also practices parliamentary democracy where 222 parliamentary representatives (the latest number) are elected by the people to represent their respective areas. The majority component will act as the "government" and will be called the National Administrative Council under the leadership of the Sultan and the "head of the government" will be called the Tun Bendahara. Parliament has the power to legislate on matters related to crime, social security, science and technology and others that are important to the people.
In the judiciary, the Arifiyyah Supreme Court is a body independent of executive power except for the Sultan as the supreme chief judge, assisted by the Chief Justice and the Attorney General. The Sultan can judge serious cases in the supreme court according to the recommendations of the chief justice. The Supreme Court is at the top of the hierarchy followed by the high courts in each state and then the magistrates' courts at the lowest level.
So, it is hoped that this segment will provide a basic explanation to all viewers about the uniqueness of the Arifiyyah government system. Hope to see you again!

A look into the league - Part 1, Matchdays 1-6.

After a short animated introduction, the scene opens in the TVNC studio, with 2 people sitting at a desk.

[Liandre D.]: Good evening ladies and gentlemen! You are currently watching TVNC - The sports segment! With me your host Liandre Diaxilva, and my good friend, Xiava Vixilaní, where we will take a good look at the current state of the Liga "A", our national league here in Ryxtylopia.
[Xiava V.]: There's been some expected and unexpected results in this one! So we'll have a lot of stuff to cover.
[Liandre]: We sure do, but how about we start with who do you think is going to win the league this time?
[Xiava]: We'll id love to see Bixas to finally win something after 3 years, but with our current squad and results, er yeah...
[Liandre]: Didn't the Bixas "band" attack Mytapixas supporters after last match?
[Xiava]: Yeah... you know how it is, at least we haven't been relegated!
[Liandre]: Oh stop... before you start a riot.
[Xiava]: My appologies, ill leave my preferences aside. Well its complicated but Libre are looking incredibly strong so far, while they haven't scored as many as Mytapixas they've conceeded less, i think "the red devils" will take the title this time.
[Liandre]: Possible, its a race between them Mytapixas and Priava to see who looses a match first! As they're all on a 6-game win streak.
    [Xiava]: Ugh, yeah i noticed...
[Liandre]: Both Mytapixas and Libre have fierce attacks, and Priava struck gold with their midfield, i have no doubts they'll get at the very least a few millions when they let them go to a more prosperous place.
[Xiava]: True, their midfield has carried them to so many successes.
[Liandre]: Come on hold your anger, Pablo will join us soon, before you explode at even mentioning Rio Priava, as always.
[Xiava]: I DON'T EXPLODE I- ugh alright yeah i get your message. Anyways Isportivo; despite lacking a fanbase is also having a good opener to the season.
[Liandre]: That joke never gets old, but its true they dont have a fan b-baseahahahaAhahah...
Liandre and Xiava both chuckle at the old joke.
[Liandre]: hahah... Well back to the table. Raquivas is doing good, the "Red n' Blues" will probably make it through as well as Myvas who made a comback from loosing the first day at home.
[Xiava]: Indeed, followed by Pinichaca which might drop down once they encounter some of the giants, and surprisingly "the miners" are in 8th currently, having a really good season.
[Liandre]: Obriros only have 3 titles dating back to the 80's and 90's so this might be their opening!
At this point another person entered the room.
[Liandre]: Pablo, you took forever, you're late!
[Pablo Tiarrova]: Sorry Sorry, i was watching the replay of the raquivas game!
[Xiava]: Well take a seat, we're exiting the top 8.
[Pablo]: Right, so who's next in your little show?
    [Liandre]: Well its-
[Xiava]: Bixas of course which is having a rough time but will make a comback soon, after all the largest club in the country cannot stay out of the top 8.
    [Liandre]: Could you-
[Pablo]: Leave her, you'll only make it worse... Right on to spot 10! Tsalapaní having a 0 Goal Difference but in sight of the top 8, they have the talent to get in the top 8 if they make enough effort.
[Liandre]: Yeah, tied with Qixas on goal difference, just taking the lead by 1 point, Qixas are doing alright, they've seen better days but they're still in reach of the top 8.
[Xiava]: And would you look at that, the three teams made from ex-students sharea similar spots on the table, both U's and Ystiandes, out of all of them Ystiandes currently look in a better state, both the University of Saxatí and of Ryxenia have had poor seasons so far, and if they keep their current form, reaching the top seems unlikley, however they are improving.
[Liandre]: They sure are and so is Vynitiná they're making an effort while Liarvas is starting to go downhill and so is Liipica and Garravas, as we enter the RELEGATION ZONE!
[Xiava]: They're going to the B! They're going to the B! They'll go! go to the B!
[Pablo]: Pinilaca, Tirilpense and Ryxtylopiana only have 1 point! and so far Ryxtylopiana are loosing the goal difference battle. But at least they're no Carraizal, the only team that has lost all their matches so far having a -16 goal difference!
[Xiava]: They're going to the B! They're going to the B! They'll go! go to the B!
[Liandre]: Oh shut up! That's an old song.
[Xiava]: Maybe cuz you've already visited the "B".
[Pablo]: Now calm down here; Carraizal look like our most likley relegation candidate but they haven't played at home, so things CAN change, before we all start shouting "B!" but for now lets check the top goalscorers...
[Liandre]: Right, let me there we go!

The Screen Changes to a table of the top goalscorers:

Player Team Goals Scored Inzé Fransquixa Rio Priava 9 Andreís Richava Bixas 8 Rauíl Disquiverria Libre 8 Ezicaiel Barvas Mytapixas 7 Theo Dixilfane Raquivas 7 Rauíl Disquerravia Isportivo Ryxenia 6 Andreís Dixilfane Mytapixas 6 Marco Viraxa Myvas 6 Pablo Arvaléz Pinichaca 6 Railo Asvarruna Qixas 6
[Liandre]: So in first place we got Inzçe Fransquixa for Rio Priava passing the next 2 with only one goal, followed by Andreís Richava for Bixas and Rauíl Disquiverria for Libre, both tied with 2 goals, the rest have under 8 goals at the moment.
[Xiava]: Maybe Richava wont be in 2nd for long...
[Liandre]: Ugh, well the table doesn't really show the full reality of things as while Inzé is at the top, we have to remember Libre and Mytapixas are over Rio Priava in goals scored, they just have the goals scored distributed between more people.
[Pablo]: They do, and we can now look at the assists table, once i press this... there!

The Screen Changes to a table of the top assisters:

Player Team Goals Assisted Luque Pirrava Rio Priava 8 Lardo Armatez Bixas 7 Andreís Yirapa Libre 7 Andreís Indrava Raquivas 7 Andreís Irrestafica Isportivo Ryxenia 6

[Liandre]: Rio Priava still leading in this regard, and 3 players being tied on assists.
[Xiava]: Yeah... Their possetion based game seems to be working out for them.
[Pablo]: So far it is annnd we have one last table, most saves!

The Screen Changes to a table of top saves by GK's:

Player Team Saves Andreís Yirapa Tsalapaní 9 Enrico Astiveilla Libre 7 Julio Lisquerva Pinichaca 7 Marco Valandres Bixas 6 Franco Arvaldí Rio Priava 5
[Xiava]: Finally something those dummies from the Rivalda aren't leading in.
[Liandre]: Tsalapaní has drawn a lot of games thanks to Yirapa, who's having an amaizing opening to his season despite his club not performing too well so far. With Libre's GK Astiveilla and Julio Lisquerva for Pinichaca being next.
[Pablo]: Libre ocationally lacks in the midfield department so it makes sense why their GK has seen some action. Also lets not forget Valandres, who seemingly has the ability to predict penalties, being between the two posts for Bixas.
[Liandre]: And Arvaldí being 5th, mainly due to free kicks, since his team possetion based play means he might see the ball on the other side of the field than on his more often than not.
[Xiava]: Well, the folks at the Rivalda might soon have trouble once they face more competent opponents, but now i think its a good place to leave the broadcast, i have to get ready to get to the stadium.
[Liandre]: And i have to leave for the staffroom.
[Pablo]: Aw, so soon? I sureley couldn't have arrived that late!
[Liandre]: You did today and you'll always be late! At this rate you won't even make an appearance in the next rugby world cup transmissions!
[Pablo]: Aw crap, ill make sure to wake up earlier to have more time.
[Xiava]: Oh you better you lazybones. chuckle
[Pablo]: I will i will, well i guess since i was the last one here i can do the sign o-
[Liandre]: ALRIGHT THAT WILL BE EVERYTHING OUR DEAR AUDIENCE THANKS FOR TUNING IN TO TVNC AND WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE NEXT REPORT!
    [Pablo]: AAGGH! I hate you...
The three burst into laughter and get up as the camera zooms away and the screen transitions to ads.

Giovanniland reacted to Candeluian Minister in "The independence of Zanna"
    January 3rd 1424, 15:00pm, New Maserut time.

People of New Maserut gathered in front of the royal palace, Piazza Clemente hasn't  been this crowded in many years. The people were standing there, waiting for their emperor to start his speech.

After more than 20 hours after being informed about Zanna, The emperor has organized a speech for the people.
Even with all of his insecurities, the emperor organized the best speech he could.
In the afternoon, on the balcony of the royal palace, facing directly the square, He would talk to the candeluian people.

-Men and Women of Candelù, of the land and the empire of my dynasty, my people, listen carefully! As i stand here, i am aware of the recent independence of Zanna, a serious problem is in front of us, a problem for our present, for our future, to which we, candeluians, shall not remain indifferent.
Luckly, thanks to our good relations with most nations in the entirety of Esferos, we are not left alone, many of them have already offered to send support.
We shall not succumb to fear and doubt, and even though future might seem uncertain for our nation, hope for re-union is still here.-

He'd stop for a bit of time.

-For this brief speech, i'd like to add one last thing, my people.-

-Even in this temporary disunity of our nation, we shall not let the candeluian spirit die. While now, what remains in our power are the historically Granzian regions, this doesn't make us return to Granzia. We are now, and especially will always be, candeluians.-

The emperor would now return inside the palace.

Bertha Brun as Marie Boulanger in "Les Petits Joueurs," 1423
Bertha Brun, the Starlette at the Center of the Laurier Scandal
    Seraphina Maynard, 1/18/1424
Pointe-d’Espoir, Trebec - Bertha Brun is an actress, SnapGram personality, and now the center of a ballooning national security case that has the potential to touch many parts of the nation. Who is she, and how might she be involved in the case of the century?
Bertha Brun was born in Gué in 1398 to businessman Carl and interior designer Velma. Brun lived an ordinary upper middle class life, and enrolled as a social policy student at Université Gué when she was 18. She began to make a name for herself doing SnapGram skits between classes, and after a few meetings with the right people, she started appearing in videos for artists like Jeune Aigle and Melancon.
As Brun garnered more attention, she worked in small film productions for side money, while working a full-time job in a coffee shop, until she met director Gari Econqueville in late 1422. Econqueville needed an actress for the calculating femme fatale Marie Boulanger in his second ever TV series Les Petits Joueurs. To him, Brun fit the bill. Brun became an overnight star in the drama, and through that show, secured a spot as the co-lead for L'attrape-Renard, slated for filming next year, and the remake for the 1375 horror film Tueurs.
It was after Les Petits Joueurs that Brun began dating media personality Valentin Laurier. The budding romance was in the headlines, but so was gossip about Bertha Brun sharing drinks with film connoisseur and elder statesman Arno Châtaignier. Rumor is just thin air if there's no proof, but it brings up questions that have to be answered.
Police say Representative Châtaignier and Laurier were in La Granmont at the same time during the brawl, but they haven’t stated why they both are so important to their investigation. The only reason would be the secret documents found on the floor during the bar brawl. But what could put two men from different parts of society in the same restaurant? An affair. Both men face the public so much that a private meeting to discuss media matters fits perfectly, but it's very possible that talks broke down. The men began trading punches instead of words. However, that doesn't explain why Representative Châtaignier would have secret documents in his briefcase, and why he'd abandon said documents to chase Laurier.
Brun’s statements, whereabouts, and testimony will be picked apart by investigators, the media, and the public. The question now isn’t whether she’s innocent or guilty of a crime, but can an actor's career survive such harsh scrutiny in the 15th century?

Giovanniland reacted to Candeluian Minister in "The independence of Zanna"
January 2nd 1424, 19:30pm, New Maserut time, in the Royal Palace.

Emperor Sebastiano Tiveron and president Alija Granito have been informed of the declaration, their reaction of pure shock is shared through all of the Granzian people.

-How could this happen? How did the government lose so much control of the region, to make Zanna declare independence?- The emperor immediatly asked to Alija, while reading for the 3rd time the zannese declaration.  -We can't have war in Candeluian lands again...-

-Sir, it's not like we lost control of the area... it's just, this was bound to happen, eventually.- Said Alija, current candeluian head of state.

-Then why, why mister president? Why did Candelù just, disappear?! We're back to being Zanna and Granzia now! And if i learned something from history, it's that war is imminent... in the past, the two nations were constantly in war.-

No answer, silence reigned in the room for various minutes.

Alija broke the silence. -We're not in the past anymore sir, we'll find a way to deal with them, in a peacefull way, with the help of other nations from the rest of Esferos.-

-We'll see how this goes then, diplomacy may really be enough... what if the other nations support Zannese independence though, huh? We'd really be back to the past...-

-I don't think that's an option sir, Candelù has pretty good relations with most nations.-

They kept talking about the situation, and as the meeting ended, Emperor Sebastiano was left with even more doubts. Would other leaders really support Candeluian unity, or would they switch to supporting zannese independence? Is Candelù ready for an eventual war? Would he be dethroned? With all those thoughts in his mind, the emperor could barelly sleep that night.

Secret Government Documents Found On Floor of Restaurant Brawl, Police Search For Suspects
    Quentin Canard, January 13th, 1424
Pointe-d’Espoir, Trebec - Top Secret documents were found on the floor of La Granmont restaurant Friday night after a dispute between two men turned into a 30 person brawl.
Witnesses said the brawl began when two men began arguing at a booth around 2100 on Friday night. One man threw a drinks glass in anger. This caused a nearby section reserved for a retirement party to break out into a brawl between two men who were already trading curses earlier that night.
“It was a madhouse,” said Leo Rosaura, a frequent patron of the restaurant. “It’s usually a quiet place, not a beerhall by the docks.”
The two men who initiated the brawl began to wrestle for a briefcase, which burst open and let documents fall onto the ground. A nearby witness, who shall remain anonymous in order to protect their identity, picked up the documents and transported them to le Citadelle de la République where they were handed over to l’Enquêtes de Sécurité Nationale (ESN).
Metropolitan police, the Viriarma, and the ESN are investigating the matter. Police declined commenting on the leak of the documents, but have stated the men involved in the larger brawl did not press charges on one another. Five people sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals. They are expected to make a full recovery.
Police are looking for two men in connection to the secret documents found on the ground. A man in his 50s with a slim build standing at roughly 1.7 meters in height with pattern baldness. And a slightly taller man in his early 30s, with a muscular build. Police sketches are forthcoming, but any tips can be given at the ESN national tip line at

Representative Châtaignier, Valentin Laurier Arrested for Friday Secret Document Leak
    Augustin Blanc, 1/15/1424
Pointe-d’Espoir, Trebec - Representative Arno Châtaignier was arrested in connection to the Friday secret documents leak after a raid on his home early this morning. Valentin Laurier was also arrested for the same incident after he was identified during a routine traffic stop.
According to police, Representative Châtaignier and Laurier were identified through CCTV cameras near the scene of Friday’s brawl. The police then confirmed their identities through interviews, and made an emergency request for an arrest warrant. Juge de la Ville Felicitas Bonterre granted that warrant at 20:00 last night.
Representative Châtaignier has served in the Grande Assemblee for twelve years, and served in the Department of the Land Army for fifteen years as an officer. He is also a co-chair of the Lower Assembly Committee on National Intelligence.
Valentin Laurier is the host of the podcast La Tasse du Matin, sports commentator for CAPN, and CEO for Graine Médias.
The arrest of two prominent men, including a member of the Grande Assemblee, has some legal commentators speculating on what an ensuing trial would look like.
“This reeks of scandal,” said Roger Feros. He is a doctor of constitutional law, and a national security legal scholar of Lacoqueville University. “If they want the justice system to keep any integrity, they must appoint a special prosecutor, not use one of Quizolin’s prior appointments.”
“Cases like this are pretty rare,” said Mari Flondeur, a constitutional law scholar and lecturer at Felix Hautlieu University. “We don’t have much precedent. Not to say anything goes, but the court has to be okay stepping into undefined territory.”
The police investigation is ongoing. They ask that if any has anyone has tips that they call +4 04 800-888-TIPS.

Top Story - Crashed Nuran war fighter plane found in Northern Fugu
In a chance of total luck, life-time Fugu Province resident and farmer Liu Qiang (刘强) dug up what appeared to be fragments of an ejector seat whilst ploughing the field on his family farm earlier this week. Qiang reported his discovery to the Fuzhou Imperial War Museum, and within 24 hours, the fragments were identified to be from a Zhongyu ZY7 [External Link - Darkepedia], nicknamed the Xinghuo (星火 - 'Starfire'). A search team was quickly formed, and an approximated crash area was calculated by Archaeologists.
After 6 days, the crash site was found in the west of Heben Province, near the border of Fugu. The plane was identified as a test flight that had gone missing, along with its pilot in 1342, who was presumed dead, however with the wreckage found, it is now more likely that the pilot survived the crash, although it is unclear to his fate.

Map showing the location of the ejector seat fragments, the approximated crash site area, and the location of the crash site.
The wreckage discovered in Fugu is now the fourth remaining intact Xinghuo, and will be displayed at the Fuzhou Imperial War Museum. Currently, the Xinghai Naval Air Museum has one of the other remaining three planes, which was donated by the Sekiyan Air Force in 1348 following its retirement. At the time, it was presumed to be the last remaining, fully intact Xinghuo. However, in 1360, one was found in a private collection in Kalmach and was donated to the National Museum in Easthaven. In 1370, a second Xinghuo was donated by the Kalmachian government, which had captured the plane during the war to study its design, to the same museum in Kalmach's capital. Sadly, it is unlikely that the ZY7 found in Fugu will be able to be restored to a condition like the one shown in Xinghai, which remains the most intact Xinghuo to date, with further wreckage sites unlikely to be found, as most went down over the sea near Kalmach, with the rest being scrapped.

The ZY7 Xinghuo on display in Xinghai
The Xinghuo was a short-range interceptor, produced from late 1342 until 1335. Around 140 were built in total and were stationed in both Fugo and Daxing, with the intention of deterring and intercepting Kalmachian bomber raids on Sekiya from the sea or within Ionia. The Xinghuo saw little usage, and in the later stages of the war, most were sent to Aukera as Sekiyan air volunteers.
We spoke to Liu Qiang, and some others involved in the recovery effort of the Xinghuo, let's see what they have to say!

Liu Qiang (刘强): "It's crazy really, it's a very exciting discovery, and an amazing piece of Sekiyan history! Northern Fugu rarely sees any mention in the media, and it's exciting to think that this all came from this small farm! I hope that when the Xinghuo makes its way onto a display in the Fuzhou Imperial War Museum that it will be enjoyed by all." Sun Zhiqiang (孙志强): "As the director of the Fuzhou Imperial War Museum, this is one of the most exciting discoveries we have made in the 40 years of my presidency. I'm excited to see what the Xinghuo will look like in our museum, and how we can bring light to this amazing marvel of Sekiyan engineering." Wang Mei (王梅): "After 20 years of working on a huge range of historical planes, the Xinghuo is by far the plane I'm most excited to work on. It's an iconic design, and I look forward to being able to restore the plane to how it would have looked all those years ago." Fugu news will follow this story into the future, and we look forward to seeing the magnificent Xinghuo on display within the coming years!
