1422 Giovannilandian Chess Championship The 1422 edition of the Giovannilandian Chess Championship has started! One of the largest and most famous tournaments in the entire country of Giovanniland, it takes place in Sonserina, capital of Varevenna Prefecture and also national center of chess, with thousands of fans coming to visit. Chess players from different regions of Giovanniland, plus the previous year's champion Guillermo Uryde-Amorino, will be organized in eight groups of five players each. Following that, the two best players of each group will advance to the Round of 16, beginning a four-matchday knock-out stage that ends with the long-awaited final and third place match. In the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Amore Gile Abrente visited the tournament venue and gave a short statement, similar to last year's one, and each player showed up carrying a flag of their region after the speech. After the opening ceremony, players went to their accommodations in order to have a rest and prepare for the first matches tomorrow.
