	Good evening everyone! I just wanted to give you a heads up that with the impending release of Invision Power Board v5 (the Forum Software) the developers are removing the old Display Name method of logging in to Invision.  As a result we will all have to start using our email accounts in place of our usernames.  This is just for login, don't worry, you can still be your same old name in your posts!
</p>

<p>
	In preparation for this change, I will be disabling display name login next weekend (March 29th) so you'll want to make sure you remember what email you signed up with before I turn that on.
</p>

<p>
	If you have trouble logging in after that point, I am on the Discord Server...

	Just a heads up that I'm going to be performing several server level upgrades this weekend, so if the site is down when you check on it, try back later...not sure on the timeline to be honest as I'm hoping to get the whole OS upgraded in addition to regular software updates.

<p>
	Greetings!
</p>

<p>
	Yesterday, three member accounts were hit by a hacking attempt. The attempt failed, as the forum temporarily locked the accounts to prevent further attempts.  The attacker tried one account, then a second, and then the third.
</p>

<p>
	The source of the attack is from the USA, and the source has now been blocked. Of course, the attacker could change IP's and repeat the attack. Two of the three accounts have been targeted previously, leading to the possibility of a repeat attacker.
</p>

<p>
	I want all of our members to know that additional account security is available to you. You can enable 2-factor authentication for your account if you would like, using Google Authenticator.
</p>

<p>
	Go to:
</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.westpacific.org/forums/index.php?/settings/account-security/" ipsnoembed="true" rel="">https://www.westpacific.org/forums/index.php?/settings/account-security/</a>
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="2fa_01.JPG" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="36.03" height="360" width="1000" src="https://www.westpacific.org/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="http://www.equilism.org/images/twp/2fa_01.JPG"></p>

<p>
	Once you've selected 'Enable' you will get this screen:
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="2fa_02.JPG" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="94.72" height="502" width="530" src="https://www.westpacific.org/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="http://www.equilism.org/images/twp/2fa_02.JPG"></p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Once you have Google Authenticator installed on your phone, you can scan the QR code and enter the code it gives you in the 'Verify Code' box.
</p>

<p>
	Your security setting will then show that it's enabled, and you will need to enter your Authenticator code as well as your password each time you login:
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="2fa_03.JPG" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="34.00" height="339" width="1000" src="https://www.westpacific.org/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="http://www.equilism.org/images/twp/2fa_03.JPG"></p>

<p>
	And you can select 'Disable this method' to discontinue use of Authenticator.
</p>

<p>
	Sorry about that bit of downtime, but the database server was just about to imploded itself again, much like last December.
</p>

<p>
	You may notice the forums are a bit different looking....by product of the upgrade, so here we are on Invision Power Board 4.1.xx...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Additionally we're now running on new hardware, and on a 1GBit connection instead of the old 100Mbit connection, so hopefully things seem a bit faster.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you find you are getting odd pages (like no formating) try doing a forced refresh of the page (Press CTRL+F5 together on your keyboard).  This should force the page cache to refresh.

<div>Hello all!<p>We will be off the air for approximately 3 hours starting at 6pm PDT on August 30:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=NationStates+downtime&amp;iso=20160830T18&amp;p1=137&amp;ah=3" rel="external nofollow">Click for your local time</a></p>
<p>During this time, the entire site will be unavailable, including the forums.</p>
<p>This scheduled maintenance is to upgrade and shift around a few servers. In particular, it is to let us move off a server that has experienced 13 hardware failures to date. Then we can bury it in the ground and salt the earth so that nothing can ever grow there, as a warning to others.</p>
<p>Due to operator incompetence, there may be some bugs and weirdness once we come back, which I will fix promptly. But hopefully not.</p>
<p>Thank you for your patience!</p>

<p>Just so people are aware, I've seen a huge increase in the number of IPs harvesting html data from the site in the last few days.  Some are listed on blacklists for being "Website Harvesters" so it's completely possible that they may try setting up some form of phishing site related to our forums.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I and the other Admins will never ask for your password in an email, and if you do get a message claiming to be from me or anyone else here at TWP Forums, make sure that any links they send you to are actually going to www.westpacific.org or westpacific.org.  Accept no substitute!</p>

<p>I will be upgrading a few things on the server today (including the forum software) so there may be some downtime involved.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Some may have noticed the site was down for a little bit earlier today already.</p>

<p>I've added a new Menu option at the top as some may have already noticed, and it's a link to the old MyBB Forums....you should be able to login with your username from that system and you should be able to see whatever you had access to before....if someone needs access talk to an Admin and we'll see what we can do.</p>
<p>The Forums are in a static/locked mode, so you won't be able to post new content, that's what these forums are for.</p>
<p>Hope everyone is having a good December so far.</p>
