Greetings Friends and Allies.

It has been a long month since our last update and the FRA has been extremely busy in that time. The 7th Annual Defender Awards have begun with nominations pouring in, our Rangers have been active as ever growing in numbers as well as Cabinet Elections.

There is just under a week to go to place a nomination in The 7th Annual Defender Awards. Opening on the 10th January defenders across the Nationstates world flooded in to propose and nominate players, regions and organisations for a plethora of awards. In usual style the awards were not without controversy with FRA and her ally region Mordor nominated for Worst Invasion Award for their attempted defence of Fluffy Bunny Town, while fellow organisation UDL were nominated for their unintentional 'coup on Osiris'. This has led to a number of arguments but has since settled down in usual fashion and good spirits. The FRA is pleased to announce a record number of nominations already with more to come, particularly in the 'Defender Quote of the Year Award' (which surprisingly only has a modest five confirmed nominations). A full list of confirmed nominations can be viewed here:

http://s7.zetaboards.com/FRA/topic/8772596/1/#new

Our recent Cabinet elections saw for the first time ever in our history all five of our cabinet positions returning the incumbents to office. Wopruthien, narrowly defeating New Sorvun's Likako Nehio for the position of Arch Chancellor. Notably Wopruthien has now broken Sedgistan's record for terms as Arch Chancellor, but has still some way to go before breaking the time in office due to shortening of term times.

Frattastan of The Rejected Realms returned to the position of Frattastan *cough* Chief of Defence, while Scoochi2 of Antarctica remains as Minister of Intelligence, expanding on the work done last term, increasing our agents and renewing links with old sleeper agents. The long term member of 00000 A World Power, Wibblefeet, has been elected Speaker of the Assembly announcing Seneca of Global Right Alliance as his deputy, while Karputsk of New Sorvun begun a second term as Regional Liaison Officer.

His work last term largely involved aiding regions in the Alliance which saw a revival of 0000 A World Power and New Sorvun, while Sovereign Liberties of Global Right Alliance beginning recruiting for the region. The Regional Development Programme put in place by Karputsk is looking to build on this recent success and looking for volunteers.

In recent months there has seen a drastic decrease in regional military. If you your region is interested in setting up a regional defence military and unsure where to start please contact Karputsk, Drop Your Pants or Wopruthien who will offer advice and guidance to build up your regional military.

The Rangers have been busy since the new year taking part in ten successful defences as well as aiding other defenders in attempted liberations of some of the larger raider occupations in Planet X and South Pacific. We will continue to strive and build our military in order to fight these destructive and long term occupations.

The Charter has recently been amended to clarify one of the more confusing sentences in the Charter which gave Vice-Chancellors but not the Arch Chancellor the ability to open embassy's and begin diplomatic relations with non-member regions. It has also clarified the number of Vice-Chancellors the Arch Chancellor can appoint addressing fears from New Sorvun that X amount of Vice-Chancellors could be chosen.

As mentioned the FRA intelligence service has already had a number of successful operations since the new year, and it's a department that is always expanding. Kogvuron of the Libertarians United has begun work of the Deputy Intelligence Minister. If you are interested in offering your services in one of the most successful and longest running departments please contact Scoochi2 or Kogvuron.

Again just to remind everyone that the 7th Annual Defender Awards has just under a week for nominations, with the voting procedure due to be announced shortly.

If your region has any story it would like shared please contact Wopruthien.

From the Office of the Arch Chancellor
08/04/13

Greetings

It has been a very long time since our last official update and since then it has been all-change in the FRA administration and a very hectic last month. The Defender Awards have successfully been completed, FRA cabinet elections have taken place, and the rangers cause some controversy.

The Defender Awards saw a record turnout of voters and saw a number of surprise results and successes for the FRA. With over Seventy votes cast in the awards there was a huge increase in participation with a record number of nominations. Despite this the awards did not go without controversy and already the organisers are looking at ways to improve the awards. A topic will be started shortly for anyone to post suggestions.

In the past week the FRA Ranger Awards have been held. The FRA would like to say a huge thank you to Astarial for her help in supplying the awards. Despite this year having an extremely strong line-up, the Ranger of the Year for 2012 was won by Flowering Staplers/Luna Dancing for her outstanding dedication and hard work throughout the year. Although her real life workload increased at the latter end of the year, her impact and success cannot be overstated. Luna Dancing is one of the most underrated Rangers and her success is thoroughly deserving. In the Spotter of the Year, despite Karputsk winning the Ananke Award for spotting, there was only one clear winner. Frattastan, the winner, had accumulated thirty-one invasions over the course of the calendar year this despite only recording a few of them in his mission file. A number of service awards were handed out to various players and for the first time the Six Year Service Award was granted. For a full list of winners please follow the link:

In recent weeks the FRA has held Cabinet elections. In what became a close encounter Wopruthien only narrowly beating Kogvuron by a single vote in the Arch Chancellor elections. Some political commentators have criticised Wopruthien’s lack of complacency in the run up to the elections while others have argued Wopruthien should be considering a new role within the FRA. Wopruthien however is said to be keen to finish off the job he has started and is eager to see the FRA expand and grow.

In the Chief of Defence position Frattastan chose to step-down with the intention of running for delegacy in one of our member regions. We wish one of the most respected defenders of the FRA all the best in his ‘semi’ leave of absence. This has left Karputsk to run for the position and was duly elected by ten votes to one, beating Kogvuron.

The Regional Liaison Officer saw Falconias return from retirement with the aim of continuing the excellent work of Karputsk. The Speaker of the Assembly saw Seneca join the Cabinet while the incumbent Wibblefeet moved from the Regional Assembly to take the role of Minister of Intelligence.

A few weeks ago now two of the FRA Rangers took it upon themselves to play a practical joke on Europeia during an invasion of Space. Despite using the two most obvious nations with a long history of involvement within Europeia the raider lead failed to notice or act on warnings about who they were, despite one of the Rangers moving in his Europeian Citizenship nation eleven hours before the next update. Though the FRA does not condone impersonation, we believe the reaction from Europeia to the practical joke, which saw a complete cut off of diplomatic relations as a gross overreaction. Karputsk has since apologised for his involvement in the practical joke, while Falconias, the former Europeian President has been warned and disciplined for flying a flag of a foreign region in which he has currently no involvement in. Despite this unfortunate practical joke done in arguably bad taste we do not feel it warrants a formal apology or the complete removal of diplomatic relations. The FRA is dedicated to defending any and all regions under invasion and in this case the FRA was successful in preventing further damage being caused to SPACE.

Falconias the newly elected Regional Liaison Officer has recently begun an ambitious recruitment drive for our member regions and is desperately seeking volunteers. Also included in his initiatives were Regional Flag days. As a result the Rangers will be and have been flying member regions flags to advertise their regions military. This has gone down a huge success and may become a permanent feature of the Rangers.

In other news the Founderless Regions Alliance has recently discovered there is a strong and growing feline influence on the Founderless Regions Alliance. It transpired that every member of the previous two cabinets owned cats. This feline influence eventually manifested on the 1st April 2013. Policies mandating cat-nip for all and balls of wool strewn across the Ratter’s sofa (Ranger’s barracks) had become compulsory. The Founderless Regions Alliance took the unprecedented decision to rebrand itself as the ‘Feline Resistance Alliance’ with the soul aim of “an alliance of regions dedicated to the causes of mousecatching and resisting human domination across the NS world.” Normal speak was outlawed and all posts were converted to Lolcatz, with one member stating: “Wre on teh rar ar, an waz makins a cumback.” However the Founderless Regions Alliance was soon restored after the effects of cat-nip had worn off. The regional assembly is looking at ways to prevent another event like this again.

If your region has any story it would like shared please contact Wopruthien.

FRAvision is here!

The greatest cultural event of Nationstates has begun!

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the Second Annual event the FRAVision song contest- a cultural exchange like no other! Each year is hosted by the previous winner, so please welcome your hosts…

Lazarus!

Great! But how the hell is this going to work?

FRAVision will be a song contest between regions and individuals. Any individual, collection of individuals or regions can submit an entry. The contest will last 12 special days and take the form of three phases...

1. Submission (15th-23rd May 2013)[/color]

Anyone wishing to participate will submit their entry by creating a thread here: Submissions]http://w11.zetaboards.com/ns_lazarus/forum/3726466/]Submissions, using the following format...

Topic Title: (Name of individual, group or region)'s Entry

Body:

Name of candidate:

Inspiration/Description of entry:

Entry: (link to video, song or posting of lyrics)

Why should you win??:

2. Judging (23rd-26th May 2013)

Once the submission phase is over the judges (made up of all regional reps of the FRA Regional Assembly) will vote on their preferred songs. Judges will rate their top 5 songs in order of preference (awarding their favourite 10 (dix) points, then 8 (huit) points, 6 (six) points and so forth). This will be done by judges posting their votes in a designated thread I will open.

3. Award Ceremony (26th May 2013)

Once the judging period is over the winners will be announced in an awesome and special award ceremony. Awards will be available for the top 3 candidates.

Sounds awesome. Can anyone take part?

I know, it does. Anyone can take part- you don't need to be a citizen of a FRA member region or even a defender. Each person is limited to one entry only however, including if they are submitting an entry as a group.

Can we make up our own song?

Of course. Entries are only required to be a song- if you've written your own we'd love to hear you sing it, but failing that lyrics are also accepted!

So get composing!

Submissions from last year included youtube videos that were relevant to those submitting them, straight up lyrics without a video or soundbite and participants singing songs they had wrote or re-worked. I don't see any reason why musical compositions wouldn't be allowed. Regardless, the more the merrier! :D

From the Office of the Arch Chancellor - 25/01/2014

Greetings from the FRA and from everyone here I wanted to wish you a (very) belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. As you might be able to tell from the lack of update the FRA has been very busy of late. Despite the likes of exams and other such annoyances we were able to complete elections, finalise the details surrounding the upcoming Defender awards and we even found the time to defend.

Going into the January elections I am sure nobody expected what was to be an election season of surprises. The biggest surprise to be had was in the Chief of Defence election where a joint ticket of Tim/Kogvuron was beaten by abstain - triggering a snap election. Despite being the only ticket the concerns raised over their commitment and involvement with the Alliance were enough to put voters off. In the following period of nominations Frattastan and Guy offered to stand as joint ticket and were approved without incident by the Regional Assembly. In the race for Minister of Intelligence we saw Milograd (yes, Milograd) join Wabbitslayah on a joint ticket. Despite most Assembly members fainting or otherwise fleeing upon Milograd's acceptance we managed to get them to vote and the ticket was approved easily.

With two joint tickets already you would assume that would be the end of joint tickets - and you would be right. In the elections for Regional Liaison Officer we saw incumbent The Saturnian Republic reconfirmed in an unopposed election, while the Speaker election proved to be the most hotly contested with Seneca beating the incumbent Iro and Christian Democrats. Last but by no means least I was elected as Arch Chancellor and was the only candidate for the position.

I am extremely happy with the Cabinet I will be working with this term and would like to congratulate them again and offer commiserations to those that missed out. With the addition of several Deputies and the return of Dyr Nasad as Vice Chancellor, I am sure this will be a good term for the Alliance.

As many of you are well aware December through January is a sleepy period for Nationstates and gradually work within the FRA is beginning to get into gear. The Regional Liaison Office is kick-starting the Regional Development Project of terms past in the Global Right Alliance - one of our founding members and a region rich with history and infamous in its own right.  Additionally, we will be actively looking for new regions interested in joining the Alliance. If you are interested in aid or joining the Alliance be sure to contact myself or our Regional Liaison Officer - The Saturnian Republic.

The Rangers remain an active and organised force and were a core component of recent large missions including Asia, Makhnovia and Coalition of Leftist Comrades. The first of those missions was triggered by myself and it was great to see so many Defender groups putting aside past differences and coming together to end what would have been a substantial grief if left unchecked. Despite many players predicting the death of Defenderdom we were able to bring the year to a close with a resounding show of strength, determination and cooperation. I think it is fair to say the FRA was a big part of this and going into 2014 I am confident we have a strong base from which to build upon.

Of course, with the close of another year that means the Defender Awards are soon to be upon us. I imagine some of you had thought we had forgotten about them but we have been hard at work ironing out the last few details and now that exams, the Holidays and everything else is out of the way we will commence the awards on February 1st. I want to keep the changes a surprise for now, but I can reveal that we will introducing two new awards and slightly altering some older ones. If that's not enough and you are particularly impatient then you can find the discussions and its final conclusions on our forums.

There only remains one thing to be said and that is good bye, but before I do so I would just like to thank the Rangers, Cabinet ministers both present and past, our Regional Assembly representatives, our Allies and everyone who has been a part of the FRA in 2013. You made it a thoroughly enjoyable year and despite many predicting our demise before last year even began, we have persevered through your hard work and determination.

Thanks for reading.

Karputsk

Arch Chancellor

It was certainly nothing personal but Tim hasn't been involved in the Alliance all that much and until recently wasn't even a Ranger. Not to mention Kog has just returned for a second time after announcing his retirement. I am sure if they continue to involve themselves they will have a decent shot at Cabinet in future elections. :)

Oh, and cheers Charchar! :P
